Pastoral Helmsmanship is a tool that every pastor needs. Pastors carry a huge administrative load and often are ill equipped to manage it. This book will assist any pastor in every size church with the insights needed to succeed. From budgeting, working with staff, boards and volunteers, leading meetings, and taking care of the family, Pastoral Helmsmanship covers it all in practical, understandable language. Seminary presidents, denomination and church leaders, and pastors are giving this tool rave reviews -you will too after you read it.
Is this book filled with some practical things concerning building a quality staff, creating and executing a budget, and many other important, yet easily forgotten details about running a church? Yes. However, I can’t help but think there is a better book out there. This book is outdated and the print style makes it incredibly hard to read. Maybe an update and better publishing would change my opinion on this book, but for now I’ll give it 2 stars and most likely refer back to this book when in desperate times.
Will be a helpful resource to refer back to time and again. The writing was ok, the content was very helpful. The mix of practical insight and pastoral encouragement was decent. The practical wisdom was the best thing about the book.
Forced me to think about topics that I would never want to think about. Engaging, and written well, but hard to be a great book on church administration. Probably the best of it's kind.
