If someone had told me three months ago that I would walk down the aisle to marry my boss, Derrick Thomas, the hot as hell but super demanding and arrogant CEO of Broker Publishing, I would have called them a damn lunatic.

Serving the C.E.O is the first book I havevread by this author. This book was a struggle for me. Derrick was obnoxious through approximately 90% of the book. The redeemable part of his character did not kick in early enough for his redemption to be meaningful.

For Jessica to have been so angry and dismissive of Derrick in regard to what he did to Jami, her body betrayed her pretty quickly after he made his offer. I thought she would have held out a bit longer.

The BDSM aspect didn't seem relevant. I didn't feel like it added anything to the story. It only made me question why Jessica was so willing to submit to a man who was so seemingly cold, unhappy unpleasant, lacking empathy, and only wanted one thing from her.

Then we have Jami showing her continued disapproval of Derrick and Jessica's relationship. I don't disagree with her feelings. I just think its pretty hypocritical of her to constantly share her disapproval after having no problem taking the job working for Jessica.

I liked both Drew and Amelia. They were the only characters I actually liked. I felt sorry for Derrick and Amelia's mother. I wondered why her situation and feelings were brought into play when it seems like they weren't addressed or nothing changed for Derrick's mom in the book.

It was an ok read. I had to wait too long for the romance to kick in.

I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book received via Booksprout.

Fabulous🤩

Jessica works for one of the big four publishing houses. When her bestie is fired for catching a mistake before a publication, Jessica faces down Derrick, the CEO❣️ It soon becomes apparent that Derrick can’t get Jessica out of his thoughts, when his friend and CFO of the company, Drew, suggests Derrick think about Jessica to help him with his book🙃 Naturally, Derrick jumps in feet first and makes a business proposal she can’t refuse😳

A wonderful story that I really loved. Characters were great as well and some side characters I’d like to get to know better too😍 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️

Edit: Ummm... is this even the true author? M.S. Parker has an official author page with 230 books written. This says it's part of the "Serving Him Series" when it isn't even about those characters in the books by M.S. Parker. I think this needs to be brought to the official M.S. Parker's attention.

I was honestly shocked at the amount of 5 🌟 reviews. And I realized a lot were ARC's. The saving grace for me, with this book, was the filthy mouth on the man.

-The FMC's emotions paired with her verbal and physical actions did not pair up. She was built up as a strong lead but was completely not in control of her sexual desires. This is something that bothers me in books. The disconnect of actions with what the character was built as, is a major flaw. She knew a healthy relationship, her parents, but yet tried to constantly defend his actions.

-Again, her emotional disconnect was consistent through the entire book. His manipulation and abuse was apparent and her friend could see it, but just like an abuse victim, she tries to defend his actions. No. She also takes it out on her parents.

-Her inner monologue was so repetitive. You know, all the time, she wants more but knows she can't have more.

-MMC was not redeemable early enough on in the book. What made me the most mad is how everyone knew how he acted and still tried to excuse his behavior. Drew was probably my favorite character in the entire book. He had no problem telling him that he was basically emotionally abusing her. He also never told FMC that she should give him another chance or excused his behavior in any sense to her. I was secretly hoping she'd end up with him.

-MMC's character remained consistent, so at least that was handled. However, this level of consistency almost lead to 2 times of "cheating" (in between the cliché breakup). He was disgusting. Also, at the beginning of the book, when the contract is about to start, he sleeps with a woman.

-I was actually put off at the VERY beginning. The author tells you what happens. I literally started just skimming through because I felt like, "what was the point" of reading the rest of it.

-There were aspects in the book that really, again, did not connect. The way he treated his mother was really awful. He states he didn't see a healthy marriage but he still could have been kind. He had no problem being hypocritical about his sister deserving better than certain men, when he was a piece of shit and didn't care how he treated women.

-His sister, as much as I wanted to love her, she excused his abusive behavior and tried to convince the FMC to forgive him and see past all of it. No. 😑

-Her best friend, I loved how she stayed consistent with not liking him but I feel like she shouldn't have taken the job back since knowing what her friend was doing.

-He was abusive. I don't think I can emphasize that enough. I can handle fiction. Truly I can. But he was using sexual coercion to get his way. He also would manipulate her at every chance he got. Then, when he was mad, guess what? Throwing things and breaking them. Can you say 🚩🚩🚩? Then basically using everything she loves against her...🚩🚩🚩! This is the type of man that would use his children just to make shit hard for the other parent. The fact that her friends and family were so quick and willing to forgive all of that shit, ESPECIALLY her parents...😑😑😑😑😑. This is another aspect of all character disconnect. He needed enough redeemable qualities by 50% in order for a reader to want him to come to his senses.

I can literally withstand fiction. I can look over things, like 50 Shades or the Crossfire series. I can look over a stupid man that doesn't realize he cares about a woman. This was beyond that. It wasn't just that he didn't realize, but he was written as a narcissistic abuser and they don't just "come around". People make excuses for their behavior. They think they are just the best. They don't care about other's feelings. The manipulate to get what they want and they think they can be the hero (him with his sister. Him with "caring for fmc" from being a Dom after her being a sub. Him trying to get her friend to like him). Just too much.

Derrick was a dickhead for 95% of the book. He didn't grovel. And Jessica is the one who came to him to say thank you for one (of 2) good deed(s) he did 😒

Whole story abuses my sensibility. The main characters have no substance. Sex for sex sake does not make a book interesting. Characters are one dimensional with only sex in common.

M.S. Parker how I missed thee!
I have been an avid reader of M.S. Parker books; she is one of the reasons that I started reading. I love how her books are are so relatable and very real. This book was no different.
I have recently read Haunting and Hunting Adeline from H. D. Carlton and I have tired to read other books after, and I must say that it has been hard. It kind of put me in a slump, BUT! Serving the CEO def got me out of it.
Derrick and Jessica were a force. I think their chemistry being oil and water were s0 cute; it was not like a normal Boss and Worker romance, or enemies to lovers. I like how Jessica was strong in what she wanted and how every move she made was calculated. She was not just trying to give herself away without knowing what was at stake. Derrick on the other hand needed a lot of work. I will say that I am still not sure why he was so afraid of love and admitting that he was into it. I got bothered by him not seeing how in love he was with Jessica and just saying that it was lust: LIKE COME ON!!! I did like the fact that he was a writer. To me, that gave him more personality when he talked about women in a sense.
I loved how M.S. Parker started off with the middle of the book, and took us through every event. I have not seen that done in a long time, I missed it.. The ending was by far my favorite as well. I love that it was not over done. This was a safe and relaxing romance.
With saying all this, there was only one part that bothered me and did not let me give this book 5 stars. There is a part towards the ending where a group of teenagers go into Jessica's family bookstore and she tell them that the book store may be closing. M.S. Parker refers to a young black woman by calling her a 'skinny black girl' and having her say, "Big business people always gotta come in and chase out the local places, hurting little shops like this. It ain't right." What bothered me more than her simplistic description of the young black female, was that she made her seem uneducated. Me as a woman of color, who is very educated, felt that this was unnecessary. She could have had her speak with proper English. I don't think it was needed for her to stand out in that way.
Other than that, this book was a good read.

Don't waste your time.

DNF 50%
1.25: breakdown:
1 point for the secondary characters - loved Emilia
.25% for Jessica's character

The entire premise of this book is a contractual marriage between as....hole billionaire Derrick and Jessica so he can write his "relationship book from experience since he has none," enough said. Jessica's parents bookstore, that Derrick conveniently now owns the property it sits on; is at risk of closing, unless Jessica agrees to marrying him for one year/with three months of dating.

Possibly one of the worst characterizations of this kind of billionaire trope/blackmail scenarios whereas nothing that was initially agreed upon in the original contract/agreement stands pass 30% of the book. It was completely predictable by 50% of the book

Derrick's character has as much appeal as a migraine headache. He is such a cliché. Jessica's character had promise during the first third of the book until she made a 360 degree about face. It was like watching a train as it plunges down the tracks only to have it crash into the train station. Jessica character loses all credibility as a take charge woman. Once she falls down the BDSM rabbit hole and the whole "sex club" component, the story got boring.

This is a story about a couple that have sex, allot of it; that's it Few authors have successfully combined the world of BDSM and love. Another strike and a miss. Derrick's character wasn't one that should ever be in a love story. "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me." I was sorry to see this author reduce Jessica's character to a former ghost of herself in just 50% of this book.

I'm very confused at the amount of 5 star ratings. The only reason this book wasn't a DNF was because it was very easy to skim 40% of the book and still get the full gist of the story.

The MMC is one of the worst heroes I've read. He has no emotional growth whatsoever, even when the couple makes up at the end it still mostly feels like it's the FMC who just magically accepts he's not a terrible person when he really has done the bare minimum to show her that.

He kept having to be force spoonfed how to act like a normal human being by his best friend, to such an extent that I began to wonder why the best friend even liked him to begin with. The same conversation between the two of them happens at least 3 times in the book but the MMC is unable to 1) understand his mistake 2) grow from them. No person can be this deliberately obtuse, and if they are, then no sane woman should be dating them.

I can't overstate how much I disliked him. His ONE moment - just the one - of glory is his action at the 4th of July barbecue. Other than that, he's despicable. He's not even made hot by being a Dom. It just falls flat and isn't believable. He also comes very close to cheating multiple times.

To the trash bin with that guy.

As for the FMC, I mean... fine. Whatever. Forgettable. Shouts at the MMC a couple of times but doesn't actually stand by her words, making them useless. Her best friend is a hypocrite and sucks.

None of the characters have credible backstories that make them living, breathing, individuals.

While the title of this book is pretty suggestive of smut, the overall story has a pretty great plot. Jessica works for Derrick's publishing company and never really crosses paths with him until he fires her best friend for minor mistake. She confronts him and he decides she's perfect to be the subject in his upcoming experiment/book on marriage and why it's a bad idea by dating for 3 months and then marrying for a year. The book starts with the wedding where she leaves him at the altar and then backs up where they started, which made for a really interesting build up to the inevitable. Jessica, a true romantic, only agrees to the whole scheme to save her parent's bookstore but ends up falling hard for Derrick. And the poor man is totally clueless on how to handle his feelings and keeps trying to treat Jessica like a business transaction instead of coming to terms with the fact that he's falling in love with her. The whole situation is hysterical and heartwarming, with a whole lot of steamy scenes tossed in the mix. Five star read for me!.

In the book “Serving the CEO” Jessica works at a publishing house where Derrick is the CEO. They never have much to do with each other until he buys the building where her parents live and own a bookstore. Derrick wants all the tenants out. Derrick had also fired her good friend for a simple mistake that no one else caught. Jessica went to Derrick to tell him what she thought about him. Derrick is in the process of writing a book on an experiment. He believes that Jessica will be perfect. He wants to date her for three months and then marry her for a year. If she agrees he will let her parents remain in their building and rehire her friend. Jessica reluctantly agrees to help her parents. This book was extremely hot and steamy. I loved the interactions between these two. This story was so good. Derrick had no clue about love and romance and Jessica was all about falling in love. It makes for a great interesting read when one person can change and alter another’s perception on love. A very enjoyable book.

The Marriage Contract or The Book Deal?

I didn’t think Parker could top the 1st Serving Him book in this series; wrong, this one was so intriguing that I read it cover to cover same day. Derrick’s dominant personality, suave demeanor, perseverance, handsomeness, arrogance, humor, and kind smile are just the right ingredients to have Jessica sexually swooning yet verbally slapping this entitled CEO. Jessica and Derrick explore their explosive physical relationship in the office, bedroom, restaurants, and in his club. He introduces her to “His World”. If it weren’t for his best friend Drew and sister Amelia’s sound advice on relationships, I don’t think Derrick would have ever discovered his blindness and thick headedness over his true feeling for Jessica. Jami, Jessica’s best friend, doesn’t approve of Derrick but all along has given her sound advice. Jessica’s friends end up coming together to help her battle the murky waters of this relationship and build a future that’s potentially brighter.

Derrick was quite unlikeable as he was first introduced doing the nasty with a random girl. Not a fan of detailed scenes when it’s not the FMC. I get that the author probably wanted to highlight the fact that Derrick was less than involved emotionally when it came to his women.
His chemistry with Jessica was super hot even though it took him a while to get on the same emotional page with her.
I liked Jessica’s strong sense of self that finally kicked in before she said “I do”.
I was glad she was able to show some strength when she realized her feelings had turned real while Derrick remained in Denial Land.
The author’s writing style kept me engaged from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed this fake fiancée office romance!.

Jessica has a way to help save her parents bookstore, if she agrees to marry Derrick. What could go wrong, right? Well, Derrick is her boss and CEO of his publishing company that Jessica just happens to work for. Not to mention she can't stand his arrogant butt. This is going to take alot of work, but saving her parents place will be worth it? Can she go through with it?

Derrick owns his publishing company and will remain a bachelor forever. He loves to hit it and quit it. However, when he sees a hot red head, who he later realizes happens to work for him, he knows he must have her. He devises a plan to write a book about the downfalls of dating and marriage and contracts Jessica to be his research partner. She'll date him, then marry him after a year and then they'll divorce.

This was one hot story! Loved the characters, loved the story line!!

Love Can Happen To Anyone

Derrick is one of the people most of us fine hard to love or even like. Jessica.on the other hand, is hard not to love, even at the first meeting.
Jessica decides to go along with a proposal that will save her parent’s business and her best friend’s job. It seemed like an easy enough thing to do, until she realized how much she had fallen in love with Derrick.
He, on the other hand, doesn’t have a clue. People tell him, but he doesn’t believe in love. He continues to believe he can live without it, even though he is having problems eating and keeping.
So many mistakes are made by both. I enjoyed reading this book. I liked so much that I woke a couple hours early on a few days, just to read what would happen next. It was the type of book that I just needed to read more chapter…or two. So sorry when it ended.

Derrick becomes a man transformed in SERVING THE CEO. He enters into a fake relationship deal with Jessica to write a book pretty much “proving” men don’t need relationships with women to be happy.

The book is really hot as Derrick’s skills in the carnal arts are plentiful. We keep turning the pages to see how much longer Jessica can resist him and what finally will make her break.

And break she does much to the dismay of her best friend and family. Things are hot and heavy until they become too heavy for Jessica’s heart. What happens next is stellar drama, heartache and a brilliant man finally realizing how clueless he is. I could not put the book down until I finished it.

A wonderful story with wonderful characters!

Derrick owns a publishing company. He is the CEO, but he also writes books about negativity of dating and marriage. He’s a bachelor for life. Jessica works as an editor there. She’s a happily ever after person. Derrick is arrogant, to say the least, and he doesn’t sway from making business deals, personal or otherwise. His family life as a child and an adult hasn’t been best in showing love. He approaches Jessica to help him perform an experiment on dating and marriage, which she accepts. There’s a backstory here, which I will not divulge of why Derrick picked her for this. There’s a bit of BDSM, steam and being oblivious to anyone’s feelings. This is a bit of different storyline than the usual. I loved every bit of it.

My rating: 4

Emotion 7/10
Story: 8/10
Characters: 7/10

No Cheating

"Serving the CEO" is a nice, angsty and steamy read.
An agreement to get married for an experiment to write a book.
I am left with conflicting feelings. Actually i had my issues with the main male character, i didn't really like him for most of the book. I understand that some things have to be written to depict the character of a person, but i don't really like it (I don't want to spoil anything).
The plot was good with a few interesting turns.
I will read more from the author.

Derrick makes a contracted deal with Jessica for them to “date” and get married: it is for him to write a book and her to save her friend’s job and parents’ home and livelihood. Derrick is pretty dense overall. Even when his friend and sister are explaining things to him, he REALLY doesn’t get it for far too long. Some of that is being intentionally obtuse and some is just beyond his scope. It is told from both of their points of view. Some of his viewpoint is pretty entertaining because he doesn’t get that he is growing real feelings. His sister Amelia is amazing. The story was a bit on the long side, but not slow.

Derrick is committed to being the CEO of his media company but when it comes to woman he likes to keep his interactions casual and conflict free. When he sees Jessica the sparks fly so when she wants to save her family’s business and he wants her research help a mutually beneficial arrangement is forged.

Jessica doesn’t like her boss and that situation is only made worse by the way her friend is treated and what he is doing to her family. One year of her freedom seems like a small price to pay but the outcome of spending time together might just surprise them both.

Derrick and Jessica couldn’t be more different and although it was intense chemistry that brought them together they soon realize that there is so much more keeping them together.

Derrick drove me mad. He was everything you wanted to hate in a man. I say wamted to, as there were glimpses of a kind sexy man who was clueless on hiw to deal with Jessica.
I loved Jessica. She was strong, beautiful inside and out and totally unable to be bought.
They start a transaction. A business deal. To date and marry. A social experiment.
A study that found Jessica falling in love.
She leaves Derrick at the alter. Will they find find a way back to each other?
Will Derrick change his ways?
It's a page Turner that will gave you exasperated with Derrick and hoping for the HEA.

To protect her businesses, Jessica agrees to date her boss, Derrick Thomas, for 3 months then marry him for 1 year, after which they divorce. He is an author and is viewing this as not only an experiment, but background for his new book. And he really, really wants Jessica. But when Jessica stands him up at the alter, Derrick retaliates and angers not only his friends and his sister, but Jessica. Now how will he win the woman he loves? The book has sizzle, steam, drama, twists, turns, and more. This book, as well as the other books in the Serving Him series are currently available on Kindle Unlimited.

it’s a good story

I liked the lead male character Derrick because ultimately he learned a lesson about his arrogance. Derrick is the ultimate single rich man who dabbles in intimacy with play. He doesn’t want to be tied down ever, but he was to write a book about how single life is the best. Derrick even enlists his BFF and business partner Drew to help him. Drew is level headed and tries to help his stubborn friend see how actions can have unintended consequences. Derrick has to learn the hard way and almost loses the best thing to bring happiness into his life. Read On!

I absolutely loved the dynamic between the main characters here, I could feel the tension. If you're looking for a real feel love-takes-time-to-devlop kind of book this may be the book for you.

M.S. Parker has a way with words. Wasn't a huge fan of Derrick when I first started reading about him, then as his character developed my opinion did too. Jess and Derrick have this unbelievable chemistry. This book is worth a read but be ready to be invested.

When Derrick convinced Jessica to make their deal, she was convinced that the arrogant Derrick wouldn't have a chance to charm her heart. Especially when he does jerky things, like fire her best friend. Will everything fall to pieces? What will Derrick do? I loved Jessica, she is loyal to those she loves and she is so motivated, but doesn't lose her spirit and fire. I loved Derrick and Jessica's story, how sweet her parents are, and I really liked Jami and Amelia.

M. S. Parker was one of the first authors of this genre that I read and I enjoy her books but I just couldn’t give this one the five stars I usually do. It’s Derrick that I just couldn’t enjoy and I kept wanting to reach through the book and smack him upside the head. That said I still kept reading because it’s still a good story. Maybe I have just known too many men like him. Don’t let my experience put you off because if this sounds like something you might like then go for it.

I've read a lot of books written by M.S. Parker; she is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is the third book in the Serving Him Series; it is a stand-alone book. The story is about Jessica & Derrick; she gets her dream job but then finds out he’s her boss. She thinks she will lose her job but he makes her an offer, marry him for one year and her parents can keep their store.

When Jessica confronts him about her parent’s problem Derrick surprises her by making a strange proposal. This book has great characters, banter, steamy passion, and an opposites attract romance.

clueless CEO

It was a good read. Heavy on the Dom kink. Derrick is hard to root for because it's just difficult to understand why he doesn't have the ability at first to think in terms outside the boardroom. But, his character development is long but he finally gets there.

Jessica also goes through an evolution. It's less intense. But, no less important.

I'm happy that there were no real violent scenes. And i enjoyed the other characters as well. I just wish they were a bit more developed.

Overall... I recommend this book.
