In the middle of efforts to establish a proper school, Eli Hearthsong finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place when Last Stop is flooded by religious refugees, people who lost their gods in the final battle with the Demon Lord. They've heard rumors of a System Prophet, and hope that this unheard of Class can fix their broken skills and abilities.
However, the System Prophet is none other than Eli's adopted daughter, Mayari, who is only eight years old. She is still figuring out how to use her Class, and doesn't even know if she can help them. The refugees know that Eli is related to the System Prophet somehow, and some are already choosing violence to get what they want.
To make matters worse, the flood of newcomers with broken Classes have triggered a Weather Event, a massive blizzard designed to wipe them out and prevent the spread of their corruption. With Last Stop and the surrounding area buried beneath the snow, can Eli find a solution in time to help everybody out? Or will they all freeze to death instead?
WOW, another wonderful book in this series!!!! This duo in my opinion are the best in this style of story!!! So much happened this time I'm sure ill find things I overlooked the first time !!!! I can't wait to see what the hidden information at the end ties into the next book!!!
4.5 stars. Somehow wasn't quite at the level of the last three books, but still well above average. The most obvious reason for my niggling discontent is spoiler-ish, bleow.
I like a pragmatic MC, and I find people who do everything they can to avoid the obvious solution to a problem annoying to read about. The MC here does that. I understand the PTSD and not wanting to kill people anymore, but that is NOT the world Eli lives in. I'm reminded of Batman's last words to the Joker in Dark Knight Returns: "How many people have I killed by letting you live?"
His navel-gazing and half-assery nearly gets a bunch of his people killed. That's my biggest problem with this one, but hopefully the next book will be better balanced.
Master Class 4 by Annabelle Hawthorne and Virgil Knightley - 3/5 Stars
First and foremost, I want to state that I'm not an author. I don't know what it takes to write a book; I'm just an asshole with an opinion based on my own life experiences
In "Master Class 4," the series continues with its blend of slice-of-life storytelling and harem LitRPG elements. As the series progresses, I've found myself growing more attached to the characters, particularly enjoying the antics of the system prophet, which resonate with the father in me. This installment offers an interesting twist by presenting an overpowered level 100 character who actually faces struggles, adding depth to the narrative.
The dungeon's role in the story is intriguing, almost becoming a sentient character akin to an AI. (With a more enjoyable personality than the women in the story (note to the Karen's out there I'm not a woman hater I just think the characters are lacking in this particular story (isn't it just ridiculous that you have to even to somewhat apologize to anonymous freaking people because they're going to get their *#$&$ all twisted ))) While the monster girls add to the story, their individual traits are not as memorable, with only a few standing out, such as the pork (speech to text messed this up. Supposed to be orc not pork but I'm leaving it cuz pork is funnier) blacksmith, the teleporter, and the cook. Their primary purpose may be to serve the adult content aspect of the book. The series' focus remains on the male MC and the 8-year-old system prophet, whose relationship adds a heartwarming element. However, the harem aspect is beginning to feel stale, and I would appreciate more dynamic and open relationship dynamics.
Overall, I rate this book 3.5 stars, but I'll give it a solid 3 stars on Goodreads. While I may not remember much of it in the long term, I might consider reading the fifth book, depending on its release and my reading schedule.
5 stars - Exceptional, life-changing, or will reread multiple times 4 stars - Highly enjoyable, likely to reread, would recommend 3 stars - Decent read, might not remember long-term 2 stars - Not for me, struggled to finish 1 star - Poorly written or factually incorrect
Honestly, I struggled to getting through the first half of this book as the conflict this time was a bit off-putting (and it was slow). Refugees fleeing the Edgelands and pilgrims seeking the prophet arrive in Last Stop. Eli, like all great heroes faced with a humanitarian crisis, decides to kick them when they are down rather than come up with an amicable solution. Of course, we eventually find out there are some bad apples mixed in, but initially it isn't framed that way and Eli just seems like a dick. The pace at least picks up in the second half, and then we get some vague justifications for everything that happened. Looks like there will be a book 5, but I am not really sure where this story can go from here (slice of life, I guess).
I really enjoyed this book. The plot of this book is that pilgrims and those who have lost their god and class designations because of all of the devastation during the war have come to the town of Last Stop because they all received a World Quest from the system prophet about something minor earlier. So they have come looking for help from the System Prophet and some with evil intent wanting to control the prophet. Mayari is just an eight year old girl and doesn't totally understand her role as the system prophet. Having all these people in the town has created a system imbalance and the system has created a massive snow storm to adjust this imbalance through the elimination of most of these people, who are damaged due to the war (those whose powers were granted by a god no longer have these powers as the god is now dead). Eli with those from the school work to help everyone and try to minimize the deaths. As the snow piles up and people start freezing will Eli be able to solve the problem, minimize the deaths and deal with those with evil intents. Because Eli won't allow access to the system prophet trust from the pilgrims is at a minimum.
I haven't finished the whole book yet, but I'm most of the way through and it is a worthy successor to the first three! The first couple chapters are finally when Eli and his family can relax and enjoy themselves and there are shenanigans and light-heartedness throughout the rest that I have read. Even when things start to buckle down and the System throws a curve ball at their home, it is wonderful to see everyone working together and supporting one another through it. There's quite a few spoilers I want to put in here, but you should just read the book for yourself and see. Definitely recommend picking this up and giving it a read!
I love this series. This book is no exception. I get it that it is a harem book But that really doesn't interfere with what A good story and series it is. Most all the characters have depth and are fun too Hear about/interact with. Overarching story line is Slightly nebulous but it is slice of life which Basically says there is no big Problem take each day as it comes. Yeah and some days are worse than others. The system is still broken but now there is some hope. Bad people abound but the good news is they slowly get trimmed back. Of course that's what we read for anyways. Hope we won't have to wait too long till the next book.
If you liked Master Class 1-3, it’s certain that you will like number 4. It has all of the essentials that make this an appealing series. It has a few formulaic aspects that make it a little weaker than the others. Eli’s seclusive ambivalence is a little over the top. His damaged psyche from the Demon Wars seems to be getting worse not better. But despite these minor weaknesses I am looking forward to Master Class 5.
Alternate universe, LitRPG, base building, monster girls, harem adult situations
Nice cover of Kay, the resident battle mage. Slower pace at the start, and due to Eli's continuing PTSD, even frustrating, at least initially. Stick with it! I'm reminded that sometimes real healing takes time and a lot of love. Serious challenges face Eli and the others, and there are interesting developments. Nice teaser at the end. No spoilers! Enjoyed, and ready for Book 5!
Ok book four delivers in a fantastic manner. Growth of characters, depth of insight into dynamics of the adults relationships, humor of the kids innocence and Beta’s personality development is enjoyable. Happy to see the little Oni grow and mama Kitsune pregnant. Anxiously awaiting book 5. A wonderful read. Relationship development with the Older kids woul be a welcome addition to witness that thread developing.
Eli, Mayari, Beta and all the rest of the people of the orphanage have been through quite a bit of late. The System Prophet is advancing in both levels and abilities. Eli is doing his best to protect those dear to him. I'm ready to start in on the next book in the series. It's been a fun and wild ride so far. Just remember, if you swear, you need to put money into Mayari's Swear jar!
And getting even better! I am impressed by all the story potential to be mined in this series. There is just so much interesting stuff! I kept setting my kindle aside to either laugh or think about the latest new development. The characters just keep growing and maturing (pun intended).
Love these authors. So many in this genre never reward readers with any characters they can connect with. The main cast here has flaws, but they grow and you cheer for their successes. A blend of humor and excellent storytelling. A well written tale, with spice tossed in... instead of spice masquerading as a story.
It's a really good read. Started slow and just built and built the tension. But the paid at the end was worth it. I am looking forward to the next book.
The plot kept you reading. Loved the interactions and dialogs of the various characters. I frequently get tired of series after the 2nd to 3rd book. In this case, I'll be waiting for the next one.
The best part of these stories is how it transforms the characters into a family. A bit slow and more harem action than I prefer, but well worth reading.
Virgil and Annabelle have done a fantastic job in continuing Master Class. Their world building and references are top notch. The spicy scenes are always fun. I can't wait to read more.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book and series are definitely worth checking out.
The mingling of the characters is absolutely wonderful and a major draw for this series. Their development and growth feels very personal and fulfilling.
I have really enjoyed this series. It has great adventure. Let has heartwarming moment.there is smut. Book 4 got smuttier thank goodness! Looking forward to book 5.
