A big welcome to my Army of Darkness!

The stories that I create are dark in nature. Most people think I have a dark mind. “That’s not true,” I tell them – I have a dark soul. It’s my mind that is twisted. I don’t have a sick mind, either (I hate it when people say that). As if my mind is diseased and just needs a vaccine shot. My mind isn’t sick, I just don’t think like other people do. I’m not broken and I don’t need fixing. Since you’re reading this, there is a distinct possibility that you agree.

This is the first time I have read a book by this author. I think it may be his first book. I love paranormal books. This story was a good read. I liked Paul he was a strong character. It had a good story line and plot. When the hounds of hell killed his girlfriend he found out he had magic. He had no idea how to use it or control it. He will have to learn or he may not live. It was a good story it had action, love and growth in Paul as a main character. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it.

The Accidental Wizard is filled with action. The main character, Paul Logan, finds out he has magic after his girlfriend is killed by a hound of Hell. He gets a mentor to help him learn his new powers. in a battle against the Evil attempting to kill him. his life hangs in the balance. I recommend this book to anyone who loves reading paranormal books.

There are levels of power trip stories, this one just broke the score board.

Mary Sue here is called Paul. He has no personality what so ever and is clearly a self insert minus all the negative traits of the author and with better hair.

Like a true Mary Sue the whole world (and I do mean that literally) doesn't so much as bend around him as is created solely for his sake. It is all for Paul. We all love Paul, Paul is awesome, nobody understands Paul, Paul has the potential to be great, Paul's story is tragic. the world is for Paul.

Paul, Paul, Paul....

Even the title of this book is wrong, He did not "accidentally" become a wizard. He went into another dimension where time doesn't pass, off screen, for two years to "train" and come back to face the big bad... one of the lamest ways to make your character OP there is.

I think I found my favorite sentence in this dumpster fire though :-

The anger started in his groin bubbling up, once it reached his lungs, Paul was angry.

You don't say? I don't think those little guys swim up stream though.

This dark and at times quite bloody tale is an easy yet enjoyable read. Without dishing out major spoilers, the basic idea is of an every day man getting magical powers and entering an urban fantasy world.

One aspect I like is the character dynamic between Magnus and Paul. While Paul is the main character, I actually liked Magnus, a Merlin-type character. This isn't to say that Paul isn't interesting, he's quite a unique character, such as his desire to be an eco-terrorist. There's a lot of world building involved with the magical system and creatures, such as the Hellhound. While I won't go into too much details about it, there's an interesting plot twist involving Paul's parents.

One issue some people may have is that this is a prologue... you either love them or hate them. This means there's more focus on the world building and Paul's magical training. Regardless, I was entertained and want to see what awaits Paul in future installments. So, get it now and have a good afternoon read!

This book is evidently meant to be a prequel to a longer series of fantasy books. This means it is short, making it a quick read, but seems to be a little abrupt, taking us from the normal life of a regular man living in the inner city to a full-on magical war in the space of only those few pages.

Paul Logan dreams of being an eco-terrorist. Other than that, he considers himself a pretty normal guy. He’s the kind of person who volunteers at the local homeless shelter, lives (by choice) in a tiny apartment, and likes a girl who is relationship-shy.

Suddenly his whole life is shattered, and everything he thought he knew about his past is revealed to be a lie. The girl he likes is torn apart by a magical creature, and Paul himself is rescued just in time by a strange man who proves to be a wizard. The strange man whisks him off to an equally strange place to train him as a wizard. But all that proves to be nothing compared to learning what his parents really are.

I really enjoyed this story until somewhere right before the end. Then suddenly in the last 20%, there were mistakes, the story was a bit rushed and it did not ft style-wise with the rest, which is a shame because it seemed really promising.
The main character is Paul Logan, a regular good guy who likes to volunteer in places helping homeless people, and hang out with his friends in his free time. All is pretty normal until an invisible force starts tearing people apart and Paul gets drawn into the world of magic.
As I said the initial premise was really interesting and it kept me reading, I was just a bit disappointed with the rushed ending. I am curious though t see what comes next and whether it resembles more the initial idea.
I do like the title and the cover, though.

The first half was okay but the rest... not so much. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator was okay, the writing however was quite amateurish. The dialogues were bad and the revelations and explanations in the second half were not really presented well. It was just all puked out... info dump much? lol Paul's character was also very immature - he talks and acts like a 15yo at times. Quite off putting.

Book with an exellent cover, pretty great reader (as I listened to the audiobook), but lacks editing, a few chapters that would forward the plot better and make the story truly interesting, and would benefit from less description of coffee breaks.

But to keep in mind that this is the author's first book, and he had done good job getting his writing out there-and I bet he'll do better next time as I know this is first of the series and the idea is there. It just needs a bit of polishing up.

Got a hankering for magic in the city? Stefan Lear has you covered! Accidental Wizard is a slow paced dark and gritty urban fantasy book with a slight graphic novel character vibe to it. I say slow paced but it does pick up and may leave you gasping here and there. All in all I would compare it to fool's gold. It may not be what I was panning for but it is shiny, exciting, and definitely worth the experience!

This was a nice quick read. Somewhat predictable and there was not much detail to the magic, but that's ok for such a short story. The story is about what it title says.
Guy is suddenly attacked, learns magic to defend himself, meets people he though was long dead, end with him trying to take down his true enemies.

DNF. The books needs an editor and I need a whiskey. Ouch. Poor grammar and so hackneyed it is painful. Noteworthy only because it gave me the same sense of cringe while watching an Ed Wood actress deliver "lines". If there was a payoff at the end I'm not willing to pay the price to get there.

Not for me

The story was too jumbled, didn't make any sense to me. It got to the point where I flipped to the end, just to end the book.

This is a great start to the series (Yes it is going to be a series, a little bird, ahem Stefan himself ahem, told me so!)

It is short but is supposed to be in order to introduce you to Paul and his adventure.

Paul is a great character, well written and three dimensional. The story itself is good and a page turner, in my opinion anyway, I personally couldn't put it down and I am chomping at the bit for the next instalment. I want, nay, need to find out what happens next!
