3.5⭐️
This is my first book by Kris Bryant. The pace was good, and the writing was easy to read. I really liked the beginning of the relationship, which felt like an adult, sapphic version of the music video for "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift, with the characters interacting through windows. All the meeting situations were cute, and the sex scenes were pretty spicy.
However, I never really felt invested in their relationship. The emotions between them didn’t feel palpable, and surprisingly, the book focused a lot on work politics, which didn’t really interest me. I generally prefer books that focus more on the romance. Moreover, the blurb kind of reveals a bit too much in advance. That said, the work plot did allow the book to avoid the typical third-act breakup, which I appreciate. I respect authors who create drama within the couple's lives rather than between them. One last thing: I never judge a book by its cover, but this one feels a bit like a commercial for makeup and doesn't do justice to the story. Overall, the story kept me engaged, but it didn’t fully grab my heart.
PS : I was anxious every time they had sex at Lucky’s because people could see them from the window

This story has been equal parts sweet and spicy. The protagonists are two women, one powerful and the other ambitious, who meet by chance. Bri, while at work, sees Lucky, who lives in an apartment across from her office. Not a bad premise to start with.

After a few meetings from a distance, they’re going to meet in person in a situation that could get messy. Bri’s company needs help developing their website, which Lucky’s company can provide.

And from here on out, their work situations are going to get a lot tougher, but not because of their relationship. Somehow, they'll be each other's support system for whatever their bosses throw at them

I liked that despite their differences in every way, status, personality, and age, they were honest from the start, without showing any superiority or trying to take selfish advantage.

Kris has done it again, she has written a beautiful, HOT love story! Brianna is a successful lawyer up for partner. No one brings in the money she does. When she brings a potential case to her boss and he shuts it down, she gets frustrated.
Lucinda "Lucky" is transplanted from the Boston division of the marketing company to Kansas City. She works on the projects remotely in her loft.
One day Brianna takes her work up to the roof, she hears a cat and sees one across the way and watches it. When it's owner, Lucky, is standing in the window with just a towel on. Brianna thinks she's a beautiful woman. And this is how the two women first "meet"
It makes you wish you could find your Lucky, or Brianna. This is definitely a FAVORITE! Should be more than 5 stars, but that's as high as we're allowed to go.

One look that can cross rooftops, swoon! A lovely, light read about powerful women and attraction at first glance.

I received an advance copy from Netgalley for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Brianna (Bri) Jameson is a very successful personal injury lawyer. She hopes she will be appointed partner at the firm, so she works hard to be the best lawyer she can be. Weary of office politics she escapes to work at the outdoor office space at the rooftop. While glancing up from her laptop her gaze catches on a gorgeous cat meowing in on of the windows across the street. The cat is cute, but then its breathtaking owner comes into view and Bri is a goner..

Lucinda (Lucky) Chance left her successful web designer career in Boston to follow her girlfriend to the Midwest. She kept a job at the same company but Kansas City is far less progressive and Lucky struggles to fit in. Especially since her girlfriend dumped her after two months of moving across the country. Now things are looking up when Lucky lands the client of a lifetime. She’s unaware said client is the employer of the intriguing woman she’s been flirting with..

If you pick up a Kris Bryant book, you can be pretty sure it’ll be an entertaining ride. Bryant creates believable characters that are actual humans with good traits and some not so good ones. Women that are a work in progress. Plus, there is always a good amount of humor too.

I really enjoyed Bri because she was a hardcore lawyer not to be messed with, but also a kind and warm human being. She can read people very accurately and is confident in her skills. No one messes with Bri and if you try, she’ll make sure you’ll regret it. It’s refreshing to see her being that confidence into the relationship with Lucky. Bri is very straightforward and goes for what she wants but never loses sight of Lucky’s wants, needs and desires.

Lucky is bruised and battered at the start of the story but I think she is another example of a strong, badass woman. She doesn’t run back to Boston with her tail between her legs after her life crashes around her. Instead she tries to adept to a world that’s clearly not ready for her. I love that she doesn’t lose the belief in her own skills. She might seem like the softer one next to Bri, but she holds her own perfectly.

Gaze is a really entertaining story. Is it very surprising? No, but it’s a good version of a classic sapphic romance. And we can’t have enough of those!

Gaze is a light-hearted, steamy romance with a strong sense of queer culture in Kansas City. While the story itself isn't particularly unique, it’s engaging to make for a fun, easy read. The chemistry between the main characters is there, and their 'meet cute' is charming, but I didn’t fully feel emotionally invested in their relationship by the end of the novel. Also, some parts of the story feel unrealistic, but I think that actually suited the light romance well.

One of the more surprising aspects of the book was its focus on work politics, which took up a significant portion of the second half. While this shift might not work for readers looking for a more romance-centered story, I found it unexpectedly compelling and a key part of my enjoyment. It also helped the novel avoid the typical third-act breakup trope, which often feels forced in romance novels. I much prefer it when authors create drama within the characters' lives rather than between them.

That said, the book wasn’t without its shortcomings. Some of the side characters who played a larger role in the first half faded into the background later on, and the balance between personal relationships and professional struggles wasn’t always even. There were a few timing errors too which bugged me while reading. I think a stronger edit could've helped with just pulling this book together a bit more.

All in all though, it's an easy read with Kris Bryant's usual spice.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bold Strokes Books for a copy of this novel. ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

This hit all the right notes for me. Lucinda (Lucky) Chance is still trying to adjust to life in the midwest. She relocated following her girlfriend but things didn’t work out. Now she is trying to prove herself to her marketing and web management company with a more conservative client base. Her boss is not making her life any easier. She sees an attractive woman working on the rooftop in the building next to her downtown loft. Brianna Jameson is a successful personal injury attorney. She is a bit of a workaholic trying to reach partner level.

When the two finally meet there is attraction and instant heat. Although things get steamy fast they do take time to date and get to know each other. One of the things I enjoy in the story is seeing them work in their jobs and them coming together as each other's safe place. I also like that I got both characters POVs in alternating chapters. I love that they talk to each other, not just banter and flirting. It is one of the few novels that I’ve read where you get the moments they move from dating to girlfriends, or discuss moving into together. I liked both characters and wanted good things for them.

I’ve already re-read my favorite scenes which is always a sign for me that this is a book I will read again. Bryant says in the acknowledgements this is the last of her sensory series. I’ve read some of the series and other books from the author previously and always like them. Reading this reminds me I need to seek out other books from the authors catalog to read. And of course I will look for future books as well. Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Kris Bryant gives us a delightful story. I loved how the MCs first interacted. This book had some outside angst, but no relationship angst. The MCs were beautiful blossoms, giving the relationship time to grow. Not necessarily a slow-burn, but not instant love.
As the last of her senses books, Gaze is aptly conveyed.
The cat was cute and helpful. He made great secondary characters, as well as those who had talking parts.
There are a few Easter eggs throughout the book. It was fun seeing previous characters mentioned.
As always, I enjoy the books Bryant sends our way and will continue to follow her.

It starts with a look from one building to another. This is a love at first sight story that is sweet and sexy at the same time. Lucky is in a new town thanks to following her now ex-girlfriend. Bri is working hard to make partner, but can't help wanting to get to know Lucky better. There are definite sparks there and they soon develop into more. Now I need to listen to Catch since some of those characters are in this one. Narrated by Lila Larkin. She did a wonderful job with this story .

Beautiful, Flirty, and Fun

Lucky has been flirting with Bri, and Bri with Lucky from their windows. When Bri turns out to be the big client Lucky has landed and she is more desperate than ever to do a great job. When things go wrong and Lucky is fired, it’s Bri’s expert legal skills to the rescue.

I really enjoyed this story. It was flirty and fun, with a sense of slow burn to the relationship as Lucky and Bri were brought closer into one another’s lives through coincidence. They had a great connection, especially given they had built it over a distance and in person it could have crumbled. It was amazing how they took time to get to know one another, and even though they didn’t know that well they were encouraging of each other’s dreams and passions almost immediately. They shared lots of cute and fun moments together, and I adored them together.

Then when Lucky got fired, because of all the moments she’d shared with Bri and the details she’d shared, I was fuming! I was feeling so protective of her and I instantly knew what it must be like to be in Bri’s position. Well she wasted no time in confirming her commitment to Lucky both as her girlfriend and the client she’d been working for. I was in awe of how she knew exactly how to sort the situation, protect Lucky, and the personal opportunity it also presented for her. It was an intense moment in their relationship but definitely what cemented it as forever.

I adored this story and enjoyed every moment. Another great romance from Kris Bryant.

This book has an entertaining plot with an amusingly different MC ‘meet. The pacing was good and I was so wrapped up in the MCs being happily together until I suddenly realised I was worrying something bad might happen. Entertaining, well-written and worth a read.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing the free ARC edition of the book.

I'm new to Kris Bryant's writing so I can't compare to earlier novels. I give Gaze 3-3.5 stars.

Gaze ended up being a solid light-hearted romance with quite a lot of steamy scenes. It was a good read and I could easily recommend it as a beach or vacation read. Some parts of the story feel unrealistic but it suited well with the light romance.

There wasn't anything super unique about the story but the writing is good and there's enough depth to the characters and plot to keep it interesting. There's a lot going on through the book and it portraits a rich queer/lesbian culture in Kansas City.

Some of the side characters that were in front in the first half of the book were forgotten in the second half. The last 30-40% of the novel was a lot about the main characters' professional lives and a bit about their relationship. The could have been a better balance through the book between their friend groups, love life and professional lives.

In the first 30% I was annoyed with a few timing problems. Something that happened two nights ago was referred as 'last night' and sometimes I wasn't sure how much time had actually passed by. Having this type of problems in a novel is a pet peeve of mine but after I ignored the minor inconsistencies, I was able to enjoy the novel and their story.

I've been a big fan of Kris Bryant's since I first started reading sapphic books. I've read all but one of the sensory books and when I saw this, I knew that I wanted to get my hands on it, and it did not disappoint. Gaze follows Lucky, a recent transplant to Kansas City as a web designer. Things are not going well since the reason for her move broke up with her and her boss seems to have it out for her. A silver lining for Lucky is a woman that she periodically sees on the roof across from her apartment building. They start a long distance chess game before eventually meeting to find out the woman she has been gazing at is a personal injury lawyer Brianna. Meanwhile, Brianna has been entertaining the idea of starting her own practice has possible partnership is available.

I really enjoyed this book and love Brianna. She is fierce, witty, and sexily confident. Even with some personal and professional upheaval, she glided through with ease and composure. With Lucky, I definitely felt seen. She is confident in her skills but anxious and a bit awkward with people. Her interactions with Brianna and Frankie, the local bartender, were very enjoyable and had me chuckling.

It was nice to get a couple of previous characters from other Bryant works and fans of previous works will definitely enjoy this book. It's a bummer that the sensory series are done but excited to see what else Bryant has up her sleeves.

Lucinda aka Lucky is a web designer she left home to follow her girlfriend but they didn’t work out. Lucky lands a client and she determined to prove she can do the job even though her boss isn’t making it’s easier but is surprise that her client is the women she been flirting with through her window. Brianna has work hard she a personal injury attorney and hasn’t have time for love or family but when Lucky gets fire for the wrong reasons Brianna is there for her and Lucky stirs up feelings she rather not have. Lucky and Brianna attraction is intense and instant but I like how they got to know each other. Overall good read I love seeing previous characters appearance from her other books I love when authors do that to know they still think of those characters and find a way to bring in a new story without over shadowing the MCs.

This was a proper conclusion to the senses series. Those who have been waiting patiently for the “sight” book will not be disappointed in any way. Kris was able to take the typical voyeur trope and flip it in a way that was cute, romantic, and had you rooting for both characters throughout the book. Lucky moved from the city to the midwest chasing a girl and that promptly ended. Stuck in Kansas City for at least the next six months, she’s just making the best of a situation when her gaze is drawn to Bri, a lawyer who works nearby and occasionally watches Lucky from her office rooftop. They do not have a typical meet cute, but their interactions are downright adorable. There are even appearances by other Kris Bryant characters who are not in the senses series. Overall, this was an excellent read and a wonderful conclusion to the series as a whole, definitely worth the wait!

I loved this novel! It was the first one I have read by this author, but ill be looking into the rest of their work, so that’s my endorsement. This was a relatively easy read, yet there was a good amount of content packed into it. I liked the characters, the plotlines, and the writing was very well done as well. I would absolutely recommend this novel for all sorts of readers. The novel’s blurb is unfortunately full of spoilers; its likely too late but I honestly recommend reading the novel without reading the description if you have that option.

My Rating: “A””
Converted Rating: 5-Stars

Highlights:
-This novel spent a lot of time on non-romance things (which not everyone will like) which I found made it feel fuller and more complete as a story. The characters felt like real people with entire lives outside of their love interest, and I like that.
-The romance took a while to get going (which again, not everyone would like) which gave the reader an opportunity to really get to know each of them on their own. The result was a better understanding of the characters than a lot of romance novels give you. It also resulted in each character having their own plot arc outside of the romance (like three books in one!).
-Yay women power! That’s all the detail you get without spoilers, but ill just say there were some satisfying moments and plot points in this novel.
-I liked this couple. They were sweet and I was rooting for them.
-No pointless forced-and-convoluted-conflicts between the protagonists. It was absolutely delightful to see.

Nitpicks:
-The blurb for this novel; what’s going on here folks?? There are major spoilers for all parts of the novel, including near the ending. If I have one important piece of feedback it would be to rework that description so that it doesn’t literally reveal all of the major plot points in the novel.
-Most of the highlights I outlined, some people might not like as much as I did, hah!
-The romance was a little light in terms of major soulmate-style feelings, if that’s what you’re looking for. Personally I don’t consider this a nitpick but its worth pointing out; this was more so a realistic look at the beginning stages of a realistic relationship between mature adult characters.

This is Kris Bryant at her finest. She has written a romance featuring two very different women - one, Brianna Jameson, is a high-powered attorney at the top of her game while the other is Lucky Chance, a creative web-site designer.

Lucky followed her girlfriend to Kansas City only to have her girlfriend break up with her so she’s stranded in KC in a job that wastes her talent and working for a woman who doesn’t seem to have a creative bone in her body. Brianna is sure to be asked to join the ranks of her law firm’s partner list. Her only competition is a male who she easily outshines. Neither woman has been interested in a real relationship - that is until they lay eyes on one another.

Bryant does a wonderful job of developing her two characters. Luckily for her readers, she does such a good job that readers will fall in love with them. Bryant’s pacing is impeccable and the entire book has no saggy parts and there is very little angst. Her writing is so good that readers will not want to set the book down and may read into the wee hours of the morning to spend more time with these characters

If you have heard of Bryant but haven’t been reading every book she publishes, start with this book and you will join the hordes of women who will read anything this author writes.

My thanks to Bold Strokes Books for an eARC.

Sometimes just a „Gaze“ is enough to tell if someone is interesting. In Bri's case, she saw the woman in the apartment across from her office and was intrigued. She is not only interesting, but also gorgeous and apparently the owner of the beautiful cat that Bri first met on the roof of her building. This gentle story went down like warm milk with honey. I felt warm and enjoyed the slow development between the almost reserved and somewhat shy Lucky and the confident Brianna. But then the whole thing suddenly picks up speed and Bri gets to know another side of Lucky, the hot and spontaneous side and then she is extremely Lucky herself!

It's not always all sunshine and roses. Bri is a successful lawyer, but she deserves much more recognition than she gets. Just like Lucky. She just seems to have bad luck, at least until she meets Bri. But professionally, things could be going much better. Her boss is a tough nut to crack and she can't do anything right. When the two meet professionally, things get dicey and extremely hot!

A wonderful romance with a little trouble, but basically something beautiful and light for the heart!
A perfect ending to this series!

Gaze is a solid light-hearted romance with quite a lot of steamy scenes. It is very well written and the story is very interesting. I love Bryant's books, and this one was no exception. Normally I shy away from age gap tropes as they aren't for me, but Bryant did it well.

The connection between characters was intense and electric. I love their interactions. It has sweet but also spicy, the right mix to have plot and love. It was a good read and I could easily recommend it as a beach or vacation read. Some parts of the story feel unrealistic, but it worked for the story.

There wasn't anything super unique about the story but the writing is very good and there's enough depth to the characters and plot to keep it interesting. There's a lot going on through the book, but I think it was done well. I do love a setting in my own hometown.

It's no surprise to me that this is a five star read for me. Kris Bryant always delivers and then some.

The build up for the story is playful and just right. Not once did I feel it was rushed or dragged out between the flirtation of the characters through the window and them actually interacting with one another.

Reading a book by Kris Bryant is being surprised every time. No following of the 'normal' romance rules that usually gives you a kiss at the 35% mark and sex at the 65% percent mark. You'll be surprised by what and when you get the spicy stuff which this book has plenty of.

The only slight remark I could have about this book is I wanted more of Frankie and Claire. Two side characters that I found very interesting. Also a little shoutout to Sebastian. Didn't see a lot of him but I enjoyed his presense nonentheless.

An ARC was given to me via Netgalley in return of an honest review.

This one was just okay for me. I liked the scenes where they flirted through the window, particularly I enjoyed the chess game. Plus, Tito is a cute addition. I also thought it was satisfying that Bri was able to help Lucky get back at her employer and the book has a couple of decent spice scenes as well. However, I wasn't really blown away by anything in the book. I didn't really connect strongly to the characters, and I thought the work drama was interesting to a degree but wasn't always enough to fully hold my attention. Also, the whole quirky "Lucky Chance" name didn't grab me, and I found myself getting a little annoyed by how many times it was brought up or joked about. Overall, had some cute parts but wasn't quite for me! 3.3/5 stars.

One day Bri, a hot successful lawyer, catches a glance of the younger Lucky, remote working from her apartment, wearing just a towel and looking out from the window and the interest is sparking. The look at each other for some time and communicate with chess moves. Finally, they meet in person at a pride event and things progress from there. They have a great chemistry, and I really enjoyed reading about the relationship progressing for the workaholic Bri and lucky that has recently been abandoned by a girlfriend she moved to small Kansas for.

This story is an absolute delight from start to finish! Lucky and Bri’s connection is electric, filled with playful flirting, undeniable chemistry, and emotional depth. Lucky’s determination to succeed and impress Bri is both inspiring and charming, while Bri’s journey from guarded independence to opening her heart is beautifully written. The tension between work and love is handled with just the right mix of drama and sweetness, keeping me hooked the entire time. The way they support each other through challenges makes their romance feel genuine and heartfelt. A perfect read for anyone who believes in the magic of love.

This was a sweet, almost instant attraction romance. While I don’t typically relate to the instant-attraction plotlines, this one was done so well and the characters were so engaging that I could ignore my usual disinterest in the trope as Bri, a high achieving lawyer, and Lucky, a new-to-the-city marketing/graphic designer, catch each other’s eyes across the street, with some help from Lucky’s cat. Both characters’ workplace struggles were highly relatable and were perfectly balanced by the connection between Lucky and Bri - if only I could be that ‘lucky’ in real life! Would definitely recommend this book.

This story has many things to commend it, it has decent pace, the two leads are attractive and I especially liked the plot line about homophobia in the work place. It’s not something that is often tackled in the romance genre, but it was nicely integrated into the plot without being too awful an incident that it distracted from the budding love affair. I wasn’t too keen on the emphasis on the name of one of the characters. The whole book revolves around it and by the end it just felt a bit too heavy handed, which began to annoy me in a groan yeah we get it way. I do generally like this author though as her books are well written.

What a strong finish to my 2024 reading list! I've been waiting for this one since Taste, Touch, Listen, and Scent sucked me in, and Gaze is for sure a fitting ending to the series. The age gap is just right, the workplace drama (for both Bri and Lucky) are just enough to keep you hanging, and of course the romance is hot.

The use of Easter eggs was incredible as well - I counted four Kris Bryant book titles on one page!

Gaze is a quick read, not too stressful, well written, perfect for a wintry weekend.

Brianna Jameson. and Lucinda “Lucky” Chance have been flirting through their respective windows, but neither expects to actually meet until Lucky's ad agency gets hired to work for Brianna's company. Their interactions quickly ignite a romance, but can they manage that AND their various work issues?

Good solid read. The heroines are likable, the writing is capable and the romance works. Bit of a light read, but fun.

Abour 3.5 stars, rounded up to four.

I usually like workplace romances, but this was on balance too much workplace and not enough romance. I don’t think the chemistry was really given the space it needed to develop between the leads because of that, mostly falling back on love (or at least lust) at first sight. But it’s not called Sight; more disappointing was that a book called Gaze had so little to do with voyeurism or the concept of the gaze (as such), and what little was there was completely anodyne.

Usually the chemistry between the main characters in Kris' stories is great, in this story, they felt good at first, but the conversations between them were really boring, a bit like a blind date arranged by parents
