Lack of Focus

This book's title and even the introduction make you think it's going to be one type of book, specifically about how to rest and recover from the day's stress on a daily basis. This would have been wonderful if the author had stuck with it. However, the author went off on regular—even if interesting and well-searched—tangents that didn't really seem to have much to do with the book's core message. For instance, in the very first chapter, the author talks about things that don't really have to do with life's daily stressors, like deep-seated trauma and LCD eReaders. While people certainly do suffer from trauma that impairs their abilities to rest and recover, this book seems like it should be more general about most people’s standard daily stresses just being a modern human living on planet Earth, not concepts that may only be relevant for certain readers. The author, if interested in these topics, should write books specifically addressing them for those affected. I like my nonfiction to be hyper-focused, and this book just is not. I did like the author's use of story and plethora of references throughout. I didn't think the book was as logically organized as it should have been. For instance, I would have started the in-depth chapters with the breathing chapter instead of ending the book with it. What is more fundamental to stress reduction, rest, and recovery AND is so easy to incorporate throughout the day, not just at its end, than breathing? This book certainly has some nuggets of wisdom within it, but you do have to wade through the morass of tangential topics to find them.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

How Relevant is this Book
This is a must-read. We are so 'on' all the time and we don't realize it. So many of us are stressed to the max and wouldn't even know where to start, to really relax and unwind. I particularly liked the ecotherapy as I did not know that was a 'thing' along with forest bathing. I knew instinctively that I feel good when I'm in a forest but did not know this has been proven to really improve your health and wellbeing. There were many examples of different strategies I could use when I'm stressed. Breathing was another good example. Well done to the author for laying it out in simple terms so everyone can understand. Highly recommend.

love this book!

I used to be anxious all the time because I have so much to do and must keeping up with schedule and sometimes just can’t sleep because of worries. I try to slow down but I only work sometimes. Reading this book really makes me understand the reason why and how to change to live a productive life with peace in mind.

I found this book very helpful, especially the encouragement to let one's mind wander. We have so much input, that our minds don't have time to process it before we rush to the next thing. It has really helped me to give myself that unplugged time, and that has increased my creativity and thinking power.
