The Apocalypse is here. Monsters roam the Earth. To survive, he must master the System.
Giant fireblasts tear across the earth as the Gates of Hell are ripped open. In an instant, billions are killed. Human technology becomes utterly worthless in the face of the end of the world.
Fortunately for Jaco, he barely survives the opening act of the Apocalypse.
Unfortunately for him, he has to live through what comes next.
Those who died in the initial blast are reincarnated as undead monsters. Massive fiery pits swallow up the center of every major city across the world. Demonic creatures make all realms of Earth their home.
But all hope is not lost. The Angels left a parting gift before their defeat. A System that bestows Humanity the power to fight back.
With it, Jaco shall master his Druid Class and do whatever it takes to not only survive the end of the world, but to thrive.
Don't miss the start of this new Apocalyptic System LitRPG by V.A. Lewis, bestselling author of Salvos and Amelia The Level Zero Hero, writing together with D. Pidge. Featuring loads of action, a detailed system, power progression, Druid abilities, and so much more!
It's perfect for fans of System Apocalypse, Apocalypse Redux, and Primal Hunter!
By page seven I was already done. I'll admit it, I don't normally like books were the gates of hell open. Mainly because I can not wrap my head around Hell being an actual place. Logically it just seems to implausible for me to imagine.
That is my failure, not the authors.
However two mistakes before page five is the fault of the author. It's dove not dived. Honestly I could overlook this for a time. (Not long enough it seems.)
The idiot stopping to remove and fold his clothes as a wall of fire is approaching is even more unbelievable than the concept of hell.
The fact that the MC has different types of burns across his body while sitting on the bottom of a lake as it heats up just doesn't hold water either. (Was any research at all done?)
Finally, the straw that killed the story for me, the MC is out of the lake and is attacked by a carbonized body. (The idiot that stopped to fold his clothes.) Movement would have made that body start to fall apart. I was willing to look past it though. (Got to try getting into the story.)
Then the MC suddenly has a sprained ankle and falls over. (What is he? A girl in an 80's horror movie?)
The fact that the "monster" then slashed through wet clothing and the MC's flesh was the final nail in this books coffin. (Have you ever tried ripping wet clothing?) A wound of any major magnitude would have spelled death for the MC. Ripped flesh sounds pretty bad. It's definitely not a scratch.
.001/10 the lowest score I have ever given. You can't just keep stacking one ridiculous thing on top of another after another at the start of a book and expect to hook everyone. In my opinion this wasn't just bad, it was horrible. If you have a different opinion, then good for you. Enjoy the story. I'll go find something else.
System balance is off and the concept of player killing with the origins from the angels is off. A main character with a saviour complex also ruins the story. This is a poorly executed idea.
Did not finish. Second stage of the Apocalypse is as far as I got. This was definitely written by Dug the talking dog from the movie "UP". Shinny squirrels everywhere.
Book started off well enough, then diverged into a mess. The author falls back into player vs player conflicts and doesn't balance anything out. Then you have every little detail needs to be drawn out into a entire chapter, for example he gets a new cloak and the author drives into a detail about said cloak, Jacko needs to do this, Jacko needs to do that, the young man this and that. It's a first person book, WE know who the character is!! No one else is around because he is unsociable and weird.
Ohhhh you did Not leave us there!!! Really!!! How could you 😢!!! Now I seriously Need the next book!!! What January, drums fingers impatiently... Getting this book is a no brainer it's a litRPG and it's read by Peter Berkrot... what more could I want... this is what happens to Jaco when the system hits earth in a Firey Cataclysm. Jaco only surviving because of the warning siren giving him enough time to dive into the water. Not only the system but Angels and Demons fighting for control. And humans are caught in the middle of the mess and undead monsters are everywhere. So level up if you want to live! Yeah, I admit that the book ends on a cliffhanger! But in actuality it really ends in a good spot and it's all set to dive into the next action-driven adventure. So I say go grab the book to watch and see what Jaco does...
A christian litrpg!, MAGA forever, may the lord bless you.
I really liked how the author described interactions between the main hero and the camp people, what each person going though with their own demons fighting inside. The main hero is not OP or chosen like Zac in Defiance of the Fall or has any OP perks like Jake from the primal hunter. Still with lots of luck and blood, we see him rise to power, grinding these levels.
It was a pleasure to read it, looking forward for the next book and the series.
The story and premise were fine. Bot terrible not great.
The problem was the voice. The author kept switching from referring to the MC as Jaco, the druid, and way too frequently “the young man.” It was jarring and disconnecting.
Readers want to get into the mind of the character to immerse in the story and the inconsistent voicing kept pulling me out.
Also, when the author first revealed the MC’s third use of the druidic transformation, the reveal was out of nowhere and totally stupid. Seriously dumb.
I never could really get into the story. It’s not like the storyline was bad, but it wasn’t really good either. The MC is strong compared to the rest of the survivors, but was weak compared to the demons/evil survivors. All the skills listed and taken by the MC were odd. I can appreciate the out of box approach, but the skills just didn’t meld well with me and the story. I won’t be purchasing the next audiobook. I will check out the kindle version - too many bad reviews and my own doubts about the story.
The mc constantly makes stupid decisions without learning from past mistakes, is a whiny adrenaline junky, and I just do not like him in general. For example, he is CONSTANTLY out-sped by creatures with a higher agility then him, even MENTIONING their higher agility, but refuses to dump points into it to keep up and stop taking so much damage. Which is a shame because there is a lot of potential in the story. Im not looking forward to the next book though.
Writing 2/5 Magic and System 2/5 Audiobook narrator 1/5
This book is very shallow, the Christian symbolism is poorly done and does more harm than good. If you're looking for a better druid/shapeshifter story, check out Tales of the endless empire on RR.
People who like shopocolypse and the fortifier might enjoy this.
This was not bad for a story, but I have read others that were similar. The end of the world and those who survived have to get stronger. The one thing I saw in this book is that the main character started in a harder area, and when he met other people, he was really overpowered for the area.
I enjoyed the post apocalypse with fantasy LitRPG elements, but the characters and plot lagged. It felt like new powers and action were the main focus, so some might enjoy this. I’m not continuing past this. The narration was very well done.
This is a strange story of a young man left along in his city fighting zombies along and found away to survive? He got strong and decided he would get strong to help others and his city. Luckily the system helped him a lot......
It was a good book until he joined the camp, from then on it was nothing but a pity party for everything. I quit reading it after all the guilt and pity was so bad!!
Well written, exciting plotline. You never feel the primary protagonist is entirely safe. This is an exceptional new world that explores a very different world with wonderful possibilities.
It’s an interesting idea, but Jaco’s a bit of a boring drudge and there aren’t really any other characters. Second book could go either way if there is one.
This story was a little slow going for me, but not a bad story. I think the narrator and I didn't gel, but I am willing to come back to this series in a few month.
A solid read. Not my favorite, but I don’t regret reading it. Mostly because of the MC. I hate an MC that makes dumb choices that no one would realistically make. It ruins the story immersion and I have trouble not dropping the story right away.
