A chieftain in love. A lass in denial. Time in a dungeon may be their undoing—or their salvation.
Chieftain Sloan Rankin has spent his life proving himself—to his clan, his father, and the woman he’s always adored. But when his long-awaited proposal to Eva MacVey is met with refusal, his focus falters at the worst possible time. His clan faces an impending attack, his father doubts his leadership, and his reckless younger brother is missing yet again. Still, Sloan is certain he’s done enough to keep his people safe—until the unthinkable happens.
Eva MacVey clings to the belief that her late father chose her future husband before his death. She’s convinced that fate—not her own heart—should decide her match. Sloan Rankin is not the man she’s been waiting for, and she’s determined to escape her mounting feelings for him by immersing herself in archery lessons. But when tragedy strikes Clan Grantham, Eva finds herself the only witness to a devastating attack—one that results in the most vulnerable among them stolen away in the night.
Barred from joining the patrol to hunt the kidnappers, Eva defies her brother’s orders and sneaks off to follow them—only for Sloan to predict her move and track her down. But when their pursuit lands them both in a dungeon, surrounded by danger, Eva must Will she keep running from her fate or finally fight for the love that’s been waiting for her all along?
The Clans of Mull series is a sweeping historical romance filled with suspense, seers, faeries, ghosts, and fierce Highlanders. Each book delivers a happily ever after but is best read in order.

The Anguish of the Scottish Lairds Keira Montclair ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Sloan Rankin is a Chieftain who has spent his life proving himself to his clan, his father, and the woman he has always had feelings for. But when Eva MacVey turns down his marriage proposal, it's like a punch in the gut. He doesn't know it quite yet but his clan is facing an attack, his father doubts him, and his brother is missing once again. Sloan is sure he has done everything in his power to keep his clan safe until they are not safe.
Eva MacVey believes that her late father chose a husband for her before he died, but never got the chance to tell her who that man was. She's very mixed up with a lot of emotions that point to Sloan Rankin. However she's determined to escape those feelings so she starts taking archery lessons in a bid to forget. But then when tragedy strikes Clan Grantham, Eva finds herself as the only adult witness to a devastating attack that results in some of the most vulnerable among them kidnapped.
Eva is barred from joining the patrol that's going out to hunt the kidnappers. So what's a girl to do? She defies her brother's orders and sneaks away following them at a distance. Sloan however knows Eva better than she knows herself and secretly stays back because he predicts that she will sneak away. He follows her and tracks her down. But when their pursuit lands them both in the dungeon one after the other they need to work together if they want to get away. Will Eva keep running from her fate? Or will she be strong and finally fight for the love that's been sitting right in front of her patiently waiting for her for so long?
Wow, this book was absolutely phenomenal. It grabbed me from the get go and I couldn't stop reading until it was done. I think I might have fallen a tad in love with Sloan Rankin myself. Eva was incredible and so strong. I really enjoy the fact that I feel like I get to visit with all of the other characters as well. It's like they are family and I know them so well. All in all this book was one of the best I've read and I wish I could give it ten stars. This is definitely a book I would recommend to other readers.
I must say that this book broke the record for me as far as keeping track of all the names of the characters and who was related to whom.Bringing up the subject of Characters. I thought they all were spectacular. Primarily Sloan and Eva. I thought Sloan was a little more funnier though. With that cunning sense of humor Sloan has a big heart, more for his family and Eva. No matter what Sloan is able to do he just can’t seem to get Eva out of his mind. Eva on the other hand, she’s serious and a woman who takes charge of her own life. Together these two spark a romance added some exciting entertainment and some much needed burning desires. I enjoyed the story. I found it to be funny, charming, romantic and a cunning mystery in one. Bloody games are afoot and it will take all clansman on deck to find out what that is. Now I will add that I would have liked Eva age to be a little older than twenty. Perhaps the author could added Eva age around twenty- four or older. There are just some things in the book that take place as to where a well seasoned young woman of more maturity can handle. It’s hard imagining a young woman twenty or younger in the throes of sexual pleasure with a grown man. Maybe if the writer was to hint at the main female characters age or give a guesstimate age or not bring up the age of the females at all, could be a solution. Especially if the young woman freshly out of her teen years. It’s difficult to interpret the scenes and it takes away the enjoyment of that connection with the book. Until next time my fellow readers. Read on!
This book is 3rd in the Clan of Mull series. It involves a women who had a bad experience with a possible marriage arrangement that has made her not really want to marry at all. Sloan is a young chieftain whose father is demanding and wants him to marry. They grew up together and Eva sees Sloan as the annoying friend of his brother who grew up with them, and doesn’t see anything beyond that. There is trouble on the isle, forces are plotting against the clans on Mull and kidnapping bairns.
Sloan and Eva go through many adventures and struggles that also involve fairies, seers and sea creatures. Will Eva see a different side of Sloan and who he truly is?
There are heart warming children, brave and fierce women and handsome Scottish warriors. There is also family, love and loyalty. Who is out to take Sloan’s clan, who is the threat of the Mull clans and kidnapping? Will Sloan find love and will his father ever be satisfied?
I have read all the books about the close families that formed a new clan on this isle and love every one. I couldn’t put this book down and loved visiting the Isle of Mull through the author’s vision. The story is well written and brings you into the clans as if you are part of them. Enjoy the journey this book will take you on!
Intrigue, Betrayal, Some Fae/Fantasy & a Beautiful Love Story - what more is there!
The third book in the Clans of Mull series is Eva MacVey and Sloan Rankin's story. Eva father died before he told her who he thought she should marry. After her brother brought an Earl to meet her and had a very a bad experience with him, she wasn't open to marriage to anyone. Chieftain Sloan Rankin offered for Eva, because he is in love with her. Eva has known Sloan since they were children and she can't see past the childhood Sloan to the man he is today and refuses him. This fabulous book is the story of evil afoot, kidnapping bairns with special abilities and the fairy protecting them, their rescue and the journey to Eva finding her strength within herself, seeing Sloan for who he is now and their working together to save the babies. The author wove this tale together masterfully, bringing in new characters as well as familiar ones to fight together to save the bairns and what they are all building together to strengthen their lands on Mull. The children always are so great and I fell in love with Eva's dogs!! And then the surprise at the end! Always a stellar read from Keira Montclair and already looking forward to the next book in this wonderful series.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my honest review & opinion of this book.
The Anguish of the Scottish Lairds by Keira Montclaire The Clans of Mull Series Book Three Eva MacVey isn’t very happy with her Lennox, the chieftain of their clan. He was against their mother trying to find a bride for him, but here he is, trying to force her to marry! First, a no-good English earl, and now Sloan Rankin. Her father was going to choose a man for her who would be a strong protector, handsome, and all good things, but he was gone now. She was fine on her own. Sloan Rankin has loved Eva for as long as he can remember. She doesn’t return his feelings, though. He tried to move on, but the woman he was betrothed to had died. As the chieftain, his father wanted him to marry. Not that he cared what his father thought. The man ever only told Sloan how he was lacking. Through a series of events, Eva realizes that Sloan would protect her, but she’d already burned that bridge by refusing him. Or did she? Another exciting book in this series. I love the characters…two and four-legged, and the storylines are never dull. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
Family, Confessions, Truly Emotional Love Story: Wow, Wow, Wow!, This story tops them all. Sloan is an amazing character throughout this story. He captured my heart with his love, understanding, and his heartfelt gentle care for Eva especially when she was in great need of comfort. Eva is a wonderful character that is unsure of herself and struggles with making the right decision in the love department. The plot of the story continues with the family's, the seers, the special children, the faery, some ghostly spirits and the evil kidnappers that bring many terrifying heart pounding situations to conquer. This is a story I seriously could not put down. It had me totally captivated with all of the mystical parts and the deep love that comes through to make this an exceptional story to read. 🏆I wish I could give it more than 5 stars. 🙋♀️ I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy for my honest thoughts and opinion.
Great continuation of this amazing series. You'll need to suspend your belief because this has a sweet fairy, adults and children who get visions and just a unique storyline.
I didn't care for the h because she acted a lot younger than her 22 years. The H was so patient with her, and he was a great character.
More villains than you can keep track of so pay attention. Loved that we get a "feeling" of those beloved characters that have passed on.
Want to mention several attempted rape scenes in case a trigger. Suspense, a lot of violence, twists, intrigue and villains that you won't see coming.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, nice set up for next story, little on romance and bedroom door closed. I think you'd enjoyed this story if you read the series.
I received ARC and all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)
Chieftain Sloan Rankin has loved Eva for years but she does not return his love. Eva is the sister of Sloan’s best friend Lennox MacVey. She dreams of marrying a man her father has chosen for her but her father passed away 2 years ago. So when Sloan proposed Eva refused but her brother tried to force the issue. when Eva was attacked in the stables and was saved by Sloan, things started to change between them. This book has a bit of everything. Old familiar characters from previous books, a little magic, jealousy, kidnapping, poison, happy couples, revenge, greed, you name it. I found Eva to be a bit immature but other than that I enjoyed the book.
I absolutely LOVED the way Keira Montclair wove so much together throughout the history of so many family clans she introduced over the years!
Her skill is truly masterful, adding in that touch of magic from Alex & Maddie's clan & with so many active now! ❤️❤️❤️
Talk about a wonderful tease! What does this wonderful author have planned for Grant as he grows up and all the friends & family in the clans on the Isle if Mill?
I'm absolutely certain we will be blessed with many more excellent & exceptional stories, with the magic of this very gifted author!!! Thank you, Keira Montclair! ❤️
The tale of Eva and Sloan was definitely an exciting book to read in the third book of Clans of Mull, I love the new characters and the new location. It was wonderful to catch up with my favorite characters that started it all like Logan, Gwennie, Connor and the best spirits Alexander Grant and Maddie, to include Jake. Oh must not forget the strong women feisty and can fight, also can't leave the bairns behind they were funny and smart! Looking forward to reading more of Clan of Mull!
I so love reading these adventures! They are always so exciting and interesting! I really can't wait for the next one!!! If you want excitement and interesting reading you need to read about the Grants and Ramsey's. Keep writing about these families please because they get better and better with each story! Thanks for sharing your stories!!!
Sloane wanted to marry Eva for a very long time. She refused him. When Eva’s brother said she had to marry, he told Sloane yes , Eva would marry him. Sloane said no he would not marry unless Eva said yes herself. So there was a waiting game. But in between all of this, there were child being abducted and lots of difficulties. It is a very action filled story
The biggest compliment I can give is that I couldn’t put this book down unless I was called way for a task. Following these Grant’Ramsy stories is like reading about family members. Very exciting and with lots of mystery. Family devotion is always in each book. Hope there is more to come.
Sloan loved her with all his heart. Eva was waiting for the man her Da ad chosen for her before he died. But there was danger lurking around each corner of the castles owned by their families and settling them was going to include attempted rape, kidnapping and betrayal of the worst kind.
Love the fairy/angel element in this story, and the children! They are great, especially the expressions written in. I can really hear them speaking with the slight lisp. Makes for a great read!
Have loved each book in this series wasn’t sure at first but it’s coming together so well I can’t wait for the next one. My vote is a novella Dermot and Rut followed quickly by Broc and unknown lass am anxious to see what next
I started reading about the Grants long ago. I have not tired of reading about these families. Keira is a wonderful storyteller. Her characters are always interesting, engaging and often entertaining. 😊
Love, Love, Love so much going in the book!! I love a story when love is a surprise!! Strong women that take care of business and the men except their strength and love them because of it!!
This is not as good as your other books I still liked it I would start reading put it down eat some lunch and then pick it back up it usually I read 1 of your books in 1 day but I still liked it some but Too much going around too many characters.
A great continuation of the story of the clans of Mull, again adding to another to make 4 involved. Great character development and plot as usual. Waiting to read next in series.
Enjoyed this chapter in the storyline that I've been reading about through several books. Its exciting and there's intrique throughout. These families take care of each other.
