A lot of changes have taken place on Terath, and an ecological crisis has raised tensions to the breaking point. Kassimeigh and Arc must work with Luc and the scientists in the Capital to determine whether the discovery is a threat to the planet. Each discovery unspools more questions, as they question the nature of mana and what it means to Terath.
At the same time, they must try to calm an increasingly nervous population. Will and Izzy offer their help in that regard, but the newly-formed Guard has never been called into action before. Last April I read the first book in the Guardians of Terath series called ‘Seeking Sorrow’. I really loved that book and all the characters in it. So when Zen DiPietro approached me and asked me if I wanted to read the second book in the Guardians of Terath series called ‘Facing Fortune’, I immediately agreed. It took me a while but soon I was able to start reading.
In ‘Facing Fortune’ we meet the characters Kassimeigh and Arc again. There have been many changes in Terath since the previous book. There has been a strange place filled with mana, which leaves the forest dying. The Guard has been in training to protect the population of harm. And Kassimeigh has lost her purpose in life. To help find Kassimeigh a new purpose, soon Kassimeigh and Arc are busy investigating what is going on, and soon they are finding their way in the new Terath.
Just like with ‘Seeking Sorrow’, ‘Facing Fortune’ immediately pulled me into the world of Terath. I loved reading about all those great characters from the previous book and I especially enjoyed reading about Kassimeigh and Arc. I was a little afraid that I wouldn’t be able to get back into the story since it was already months ago since I read the first book, but thankfully after reading the first chapter everything came back to me.
I loved that this book was mainly about Kassimeigh. She was such a powerful female character and I loved her journey towards finding her way in life. Reading about her relationship with Arc only made me love her even more. She was just so strong, honest and brave. I definitely admired her. And the romance between these two characters was just really sweet.
There is a lot happening in ‘Facing Fortune’. The story is exciting and it was hard to put the book down. It was really fun to get into the characters’ lives, especially of those we already knew from the previous book, like Izzy Gin and Will. There are some hints at new romances and I really loved that about this book.
The only problem I had with this book was the way I thought a view times the story was finished and then another thing would happen and the story would go on again. I would have already rounded the story up in my head and bam another thing happened. I really didn’t see that coming. I also really felt like I still didn’t have all the answers at the end of the book. But this wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. It definitely made me want to start reading the next book ASAP.
‘Facing Fortune’ was another fun, interesting and intriguing read and I really would recommend the Guardians of Terath series to every fantasy lover out there.

In writing a sequel to Seeking Sorrow, the author has noticeably tightened up some things in her style, such as resolving the POV issues from before. Her characters are so compelling that it is a delight to see what they are up to and how they are progressing. Unfortunately, the book stumbles in a few areas. It is enjoyable to read, but it seems every challenge is immediately resolved with minimal effort. The main character is a bit too powerful with no glaring weaknesses to temper her advantages. The conflict, though very sophisticated and interesting, does not carry the some weight or urgency as the one in the previous book. As before, DiPietro puts words together quite well. The politically charged rally scene in particular is downright impressive. Once again the author leaves us with a hook to make us anticipate the next installment in the series.

The Story Grows
I have read the first book in the trilogy and looked forward to this second d book. The characters have expanded in depth and number, and the plot has also deepened. No spoilers, but there are twists and storylines that make you hold your breath and make you continue reading to find out what happens. The characters grow into family for the reader and create a genuine concern for their well being within the plot. I look forward to the third book in the trilogy and wish for an expansion of this story arc and universe.

Zen has done it again. Giving us a really good book that finishes the story, but gives a peak about the upcoming book.
Kassimeigh's story in this book was very well done and I loved the continuation of the other characters as well, especially her soul bond, Arc. I am really looking forward to the next book.

Great story
I really enjoy this series. I love so the different aspects of the world and the people in it. I can't wait to read the next book!
