Style Chapters is a companion book, one to have on hand as you go through changes in your life. It gives directions on how to dress (not in a prescriptive manner, but in a supportive one) for the different ‘chapters’ women go through. From occasional dressing, dressing for pregnancy and motherhood (school runs included) menopause, grief, weight change and more, this book is one to refer back again and again. With the premise that wardrobes start with building blocks that should serve the wearer in their multifaceted lives, it also offers options for starting wardrobes and invites the reader to make their own choices to personalise and live their best lives with what they love and feel great in. A lovely read to keep as a reference book that embraces women for who they are, ditching the concept that prescriptive fashion is a one size fits all solution.
Forget whatever you think you know about “capsule wardrobes” because this is not that book! For a start, Erica refers to “building blocks” which is a much more helpful idea/terminology, and doesn’t just identify them but gives examples of how to combine them. Add that to the ideas & considerations around style for multiple stages/phases of life and this is exactly what it says on the cover - a great practical guide. My one quibble - would have been nice to have had photos of the suggested items for the illness & grief phases.
I found Erica Davies insights to style thoughtful, including chapters on what to wear for the (dreaded) the school drop off/pick up, pregnancy, and even menopause. Includes suggestions on colorplay, patterns, cleaning out your closet and letting go of what no longer fits our suits you. Inclusive to all sizes, shapes, ages, and times of a womans life.
