Spring has arrived in Maiden-Upon-Avon, and novice witch Evelyn Eldritch is delighted to be an extra in the cast of Pride, Prejudice, and Puddings. But when an up-and-coming actor is found dead beneath the minstrel gallery, the charming costume drama turns into a real-life murder mystery.
While her boyfriend, Detective Inspector Alex Taylor, takes charge of the official investigation, Evelyn has her own magical ways of uncovering the truth. With the help of some questionable spells, meddling ghosts, and her mischievous granny, she’s determined to catch the killer - before they strike again.
At the same time, Evelyn is on a mission to track down an elusive unicorn horn that could unlock Alex’s magic. The problem? Only his formidable senior-witch mother knows where it’s hidden. Determined to get answers, Evelyn tries out a magical truth serum - with hilarious consequences!
But spells and secrets aside, there’s a killer on the loose. Can Evelyn solve the case before the credits roll on another victim? Or will this be her final cut?
If you love plucky witches, small-town mysteries with magical twists, and a dash of romance, you'll adore Rosie Reed's enchanting tale. Don't miss the premiere of Murder On Set! for a guaranteed killer performance!
I LOVED this book. This is such a great series and I would be hard pressed to choose my favourite book until now. This was a perfect balance of magic, humour, mystery and intrigue. The author has certainly hit on a box office hit it it was part of the film word. I liked the play on words for all the film's in the series and it was delightful that fuzzball got a part in the show. The characters are one of a kind and I love spending time with them all. There are a lot of regular cast members and even a few mentions to previous case, so while it is no necessary to have read the other books as it does work as a stand alone, in my opinion it works best to enjoy the whole series. Especially as it is a series and one character is getting closer to unlocking his magic with each new book. The mystery was good and once I knew who the killer was I could piece together all the clues but until then I had no clue. The author can't write fast enough for this reader. With the film crew finally in residence to film the period dram at the manor, Evelyn can finally relax and enjoy the show, she even managed to get a minor role in the film. Until the murder of one of the actors thrust her on to centre stage. Can she help her policeman boyfriend find the killer? He is under assessment at the moment, with his boss shadowing his every move and now is not the best time to have a murder case he can't solve or to have a girlfriend who uses her magic to find clues. At the same time Evelyn is trying to help him unlock his own powers, a job that might get the actors talking amongst themselves when the two worlds combine. I was given this free review copy book at my request and have voluntarily left this review
I rated the book 4.5 stars but rounded to 5 stars here and on other sites.
Murder on Set! by Rosie Reed is the twelfth book in the English Village Witch Cozy series. It is a paranormal cozy mystery set in a small English village filled with magic, Beings of Magic, a murder, lots of clues, and finally, the reveal of whodunnit.
As usual, the author packs multiple stories into the primary arc, including several twists and turns, interesting magical characters we’ve met before, and some new nonmagical characters with roles on the movie set. There are vivid descriptions of English food and tea.
The story has a good flow that only occurs over a few days. There’s a lot of action and adventure as Evie once again is helping her detective boyfriend solve the crime. There is closure with the murderer getting taken into custody. What will Evie, Alex, and the others get up to next?
Murder on Set! is a cozy paranormal mystery that can easily be a standalone but is much more enjoyable to read in order. Watch the magic unfold as Evie learns how to best control and use her powers.

Being an extra in the cast of Pride, Prejudice, and Puddings, witch Evelyn Eldritch is enjoying the filming until another actor is found dead in the minstrel gallery turning the costume drama into a murder mystery. Luckily Evelyn’s boyfriend Detective Inspector Alex Taylor is soon investigating the death. While the investigation is in progress Evie is soon back to searching for a unicorn horn that will help Alex regain fully his magical powers. This charming cozy mystery set in magical Maiden-Upon-Avon and is home to many magical beings including witches and vampires. I love this book and look forward to more books in the series. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
Once again a fun book to read. A movie is being filmed in Maiden-on-Avon & Evie is an extra! Then a would be actor is found dead, seemingly pushed from the Minstrels’ Gallery. Naturally Evie makes use of her time on set to suss out clues. Fuzzball suddenly became Max & was told he’d have a part in the film! There are several suspects and a lot of strange things are uncovered about the victim. In the background Evie is trying to find the unicorn horn that Alex’s mother is keeping hidden. Lots of learning about her own magical growth as well.
Another fun romp thru Maiden Upon Avon with Evelyn, Dimples and company. While hosting a film production at the manner, one of the cast is found dead. In the midst of trying to help Alex solve the case, Evelyn is still trying to help Alex uncover his magic. Will she finally make his mother see the error of her ways, will Evelyn see her true worth and will the ball go off without a hitch. Its never a dull moment. Looking forward to the next book?
I was gifted a complimentary, but was not required to leave a review. This is a voluntay honest opinion.
A murder at the filming of a movie done at Evie's home and bakery. The cast are all guests at her home until there is a murder behind a set. Alex is now under the spot light by his superior making things a wee bit difficult. Between magic that needs to be hidden things get interesting. When they need to transform their Shepherd dog Max to a human, things get interesting, adding humor to their situation. This is another wonderful page turner by Rosie Reed!
Yet another excellent read from Rosie Reed! Another cute fast paced lighthearted book. I enjoy all of her books. I am invested in finding out all about Detective "Dimples" magic. I love watching their relationship grow and deepen. Looking forward to the next already. I was gifted a complimentary copy of this book, but was not required to leave a review. This is my voluntarily given, honest opinion.
This is an excellent fun cozy mystery book. Evelyn is a witch whose learning to use her magic and gradually learn more about what she can do and who is through it, whilst she lives in a small village with her boyfriend whom she loves completely and his complicated family. She owns a small manor house, so she is renting it out to a film crew and the resulting murder is reason to gush over her detective boyfriend rope in relatives and friends and solve the murder. It's a nice relaxing fun read.
Evelyn is hosting the cast and crew for Pride, Prejudice, and Puddings at Locksleigh Manor and is cast as a minor crew member. Of course, nothing runs smoothly, and the filming is stopped when a death happens. It's a mad race to find the killer, but she's also trying to find the unicorn horn for Alex. Another fun to read book from Rosie Reed. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Being on a movie set was exciting but when the murder of one of the actors Gideon Jenkins complicated matters. Evelyn Eldritch with her magic powers helps her boyfriend Detective Inspector Alex Taylor. Secrets and spells spice up this intriguing read. I received this ARC copy and recommend this book to other readers.
What a convoluted case Evie finds herself trying to solve. This on top of being an extra in a movie, studying her own magic, trying to find out how to help unlock her boyfriend’s magic. She is quite an amazing person. This book was a whole lot of fun to read as well as laugh out loud funny! I loved it and can’t wait to read the next one!
This is one of the best series around. Rosie Reed is a first-class storyteller, this book is a prime example. I adore the characters and the magic, and Max is hilarious and totally cute. The story is captivating, twist-filled, and an absolute delight. Highly recommended!
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
Another fun one! I love this series and how it has progressed, and yet Evelyn is still coming into her own.
In this one, a movie is being filmed at Locksleigh Manor and Evelyn even gets a small role as an extra. When one of the actors is murdered, Evelyn with Luke's help, and against Alex's request for her not to poke into his investigation, is determined to find the killer. Or at least help Alex find the killer. There are a few good suspects so it will take her quite a bit of snooping and magic to find the clues, and eventually, solve the case. But not before almost getting murdered herself. Par for the course.
Alex may not want her involved to avoid her becoming a target, but he does appreciate her contributions when she ignores his directive. I like that although there is new murder mystery, there is also the growth in characters and relationships.
