I have enjoyed a number of Ikeido Jun books, including the Hanzawa Naoki and Shitamachi Rocket series(es?). I even somewhat enjoyed the Hanasaki Mai TV series, which os based on the characters oin this book. I’m glad they stuck to the characters and not the plots of these stories, because they are—probably unintentional, at that—morally dubious. The characters act as if the outcomes are good, which is why I question if the author even realizes how morally reprehensible some of the outcomes are. The characters that are treated in the book as without principles include a banker who whistleblows on his bank falsifying and destroying loan documents; instead of questioning the morality of those who would falsify and destroy documents (both illegal), it is the whistleblower who is treated as if he has betrayed all those who work hard for the bank. Disgusting and offensive.
