Are you a teacher who struggles with classroom management and planning lessons Alternatively, are you considering becoming a teacher and are looking to develop the essential teaching skills?
Not many get the chance to shape young minds and influence people to achieve great things in life. Teachers do...but it’s a hard road to travel on.
Most people don’t even realize the challenges teachers face every day. From lesson-planning to dealing with problematic students and overbearing parents, teachers have to juggle various responsibilities all at once. It’s a blessing and a curse.
On the one hand, this cold-hearted system is hindering education in general, and leaving teachers to their own means can backfire and have serious sociological consequences. But on the other hand, the system provides a crazy amount of freedom for teachers to do their own thing and be creative and versatile in their jobs. This, of course, puts an enormous amount of pressure on teachers, especially young new teachers who are only starting to find their own teaching style. Luckily, some of those skills are still considered essential and can be applied to both physical and virtual classrooms.
In Teaching Yourself to Teach, you will

If only someone had told me these things 20 years ago. All the negative things people tell you when you consider the teaching profession. There is nothing more rewarding than joining the ranks of educators. This book scraps the surface, but doesn't explain how rewarding it can be once you immerse yourself. But it gives a decent overview.
One thing I like about the modern world of self-publishing is that someone who has an area of expertise can write a book based on their knowledge and experience and share it with the world. That's exactly what this book is. The author is a teacher, and she has distilled what she considers the most important aspects a teacher needs to understand about teaching. Some concepts will certainly be familiar to anyone who has been to college in the last 20 years, like the different types of learners and learning. But the author drills down surprisingly deep into these topics, especially the one I just mentioned, not only explaining the basics but providing an actionable plan about how to implement the ideas in the classroom. You can certainly tell that this author has had some years of experience as a teacher, and she shares her insights with the reader in a friendly way. Other topics in the book include classroom management, motivating and inspiring students, making a lesson plan, and dealing with challenging students. Much of the book is about in-class learning, but she does give a nod to our current situation. The next book of the series focuses on teaching in an online environment. If you are a teacher and would like another teacher's perspective on these topics, you might find this book useful.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
As a retired English Teacher who taught for 31 years in Texas I thought this would be the perfect book for me. As I started reading, I was at first disappointed. The book didn't have the anecdotes and examples I enjoyed so much in other books just like this. Old teachers like to be told teacher stories about how things worked or went wrong in the classroom. This book, however, focusses on giving you a comprehensive overview of everything it takes be a great teacher. It is very well-organized and thoroughly complete. The breakdown is well-supported with insights and proven best-practices. This author definitely knows how to be a great teacher. Struggling teachers could definitely benefit more from this book if it gave more concrete examples of strategies, activities, and techniques they could actually use. But it gives them a thorough account of everything they need to acquire, promises more of that in future books by this author, and plenty of sources to turn to are provided in the bibliography. I highly recommend this book to teachers.
When I first started out teaching, I was really eager to learn as much as possible about different strategies and techniques that I could use in my own classroom. However, I quickly realized that there was a lot of information out there, and it can be difficult to know where to start. That's why I found the book Teaching Yourself To Teach so helpful. It provides a comprehensive guide to everything you need to know about teaching, from different types of learners to classroom management techniques.
One of the best things about this book is that it doesn't just focus on theory; it also includes lots of practical tips that can be implemented in the classroom right away. This makes it an invaluable resource for new teachers who are still trying to find their feet. If you're looking for a comprehensive guide to teaching, this is definitely the book for you!
The book Teaching Yourself to Teach by author Selena Watts is a very interesting read. The best part about this entire book was the fact that it was so informative and easy to understand. The information given in the book can be used for anyone who wants to teach a class, no matter what the subject is. It explained how one must prepare for teaching, which I felt was very helpful. The author gives some examples and stories of how she taught her classes and what obstacles she came across along the way. This book is a great read for anyone who teaches classes on a regular basis or even for those who want to teach on a small scale on their own personal skills.
I picked up this book because I am looking to create online courses. This is a gem for teachers, aspiring teachers and parents homeschooling their kids during the pandemic.
