Here are some of the things to consider about Rachel and Tom’s marriage - There are three people involved. Someone is a liar - Someone is in danger - Someone is a killer.
Rachel is haunted by a past trauma which means she has a terrible fear of water, and the very thought of living in a house overlooking the sea simply fills her with dread. However, following an inheritance from her father, Rachel’s husband Tom persuades her to leave their tiny apartment and home town of Manchester, and purchase a house on the beautiful Cornish Coast. Rachel and four year old Sam stay in their apartment while Tom oversees renovations on their new home.
Rachel is still frightened about living so close to the ocean but Tom is certain that it will be a wonderful life for Sam and that Rachel will come to love it too. Wrong!
For Rachel, all manner of madness, mayhem and murder will follow, but with some very strange characters and a twisty storyline, who should she believe? My answer - trust no one!
Oh my! I constantly wanted to shout “Open your eyes Rachel for goodness sake”!
Though there was much use of smoke and mirrors, sadly for me I worked out who was the perpetrator of all this madness. I say sadly, because I like to be surprised by the reveal, there’s nothing better for me than thinking I never saw that coming! That said, I still enjoyed the journey.

Tom and Rachel Frazer and their 4-year-old son, Sam, have just moved into their new home off the coast of Cornwell. Tom has spent months renovating the house while Rachel and Sam were in Manchester. They can afford this due to an inheritance from Rachel’s father. Tom was made redundant from his job as a banker, and Rachel works as a journalist.
On their first night together, a woman named Chloe lets herself into the house and walks in on them together. Tom says she works for the estate agents from which they purchased their home. He also admits that he knew her from the former banking firm he left. Although she seems lovely to Rachel, Tom claims she’s dangerous and to stay away from her. What about these two? It takes Rachel a while to suspect something is up— but what and why did Tom want to make this move?
The next day, Tom takes his son Sam to his new nursery—school. But the piece of resistance was the surprise Tom presented her with in their garden, which sent her spiralling back to the nightmare of her past. To Rachel’s utter horror, it was a swimming pool. Why would he do that to her?
Tom receives a chance for a two-week job in Scotland, and Rachel will look for journalist jobs. But Rachel is reluctant to see him go as she feels strange and unsettled about the house as if something isn’t right.
More sinister things happen, things appear, then disappear. Rachel begins to see people in her home, and she believes she knows who is behind all of this, but her accusations bring censure from others. However, until a genuinely frightening event happens, Rachel realizes who is behind these nasty things. Even figuring that out doesn’t mean she knows who is responsible. Nothing is as it seems. Many twists and turns kept me wanting to know what would happen next. That kept me invested and turning those pages late into the night.
I often screamed at Rachel to wake up and get a clue— your husband isn’t who you think he is! I found Rachel quite frustrating to read, especially her unwavering trust and devotion in her husband despite knowing he had already gone behind her about the swimming pool. I was desperate for her to find out the truth. One little thing bothered me: I found the author dragged out and was repetitive of Rachel’s fear. It didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment. I found Chloe not believable as an antagonist; she was OTT and annoying, needy, and whiney. I found Tom an odd and creepy character who lacked depth, wanted to isolate his wife, and didn't like Rebecca’s friends, none more so than her closest friend, Rosa, who is a nurse practitioner and had been Rebecca's best friend since nursing her father through his illness. Rosa finds Tom rude, and there seems to be no love lost between the two most influential people in Rachel’s life. I wasn’t expecting the shocking twist at the end. It was my first time reading Sue Watson, and I look forward to reading more of her books. It was my first time listening to Tamsin Kennard as a narrator; she did a fantastic job of emoting the whiny personalities of many of the characters and made the atmosphere vivid and realistic. I went back and forth on my rating from 3 stars to 3.5 stars. It would have been three stars if I read it without pairing it with the audio. I look forward to listening to more of Tamsin Kennard.

3.5⭐ Genre ~ domestic thriller Setting ~ Cornwall Publication date ~ June 3, 2024 Est Page Count ~ 390 (p+ 51 chapters) Audio length ~ 8 hours 57 minutes Narrator ~ Tamsin Kennard POV ~ single 1st, present tense Featuring ~ fear of water, secrets, lies, betrayal, murder
Rachel & Tom have purchased a big house in Cornwall. Tom has been there for a while overseeing the renovations, while Rachel has been in Manchester with their son, Sam. Finally it's time for them all to be together again, but some people in this town are not too thrilled that Rachel is around.
Whenever we're told the husband is handsome it's not hard to figure out what secrets and lies there might be. What a douche he was. She should've left him when he revealed his big surprise to her. I mean how unsupportive can you be of someones fear? Speaking of that fear ~ took ages to reveal the why after many breadcrumbs throughout.
Can't say I liked any of the characters, even 4 year old Sam got on my nerves a couple of times. I did have the twist figured out, but this author does write an engaging, fast paced story that'll keep you entertained and yelling at Rachel to open her eyes.
Narration notes: Tamsin is a well seasoned narrator, so no complaints. She really gives each character their own voice.
Wow. I had to read the majority of the book in just one go — action and pacing really pick up right before the middle of the book. There is no conclusive ending, but I think readers can piece together what happens next. I enjoyed this book. But it was also scary. To read how someone can thoroughly ruin someone else’s life was overwhelming at times. This book lands firmly in the thriller category for me (not quite mystery).
It is a bit obvious who the terrible people are in this book (and there are many), but it was a good book nonetheless. I recommend reading it, especially when you have free time to read it in one sitting!
Thanks to Sue Watson, Bookouture, and NetGalley for the advanced copy!
Secrets, lies, and betrayal with high intensity describe this addictive thriller! I didn't know who was the true victim and who was the manipulative villain? Who do you believe? Rachel is haunted by her past and hopeful about her future. It appears that she has everything. Her life is perfect with a sweet son and an amazing husband. All is not as it seems and things quickly go from a dream to a nightmare. The ending was jaw-dropping. To say it was shocking is a complete understatement. I loved every twisted minute. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy.
In some ways this was a fast paced thriller. I listened to the audiobook and loved the narrator she did a great job bringing he story to life. My biggest problem with this book was the main character/narrator. I’m ok with some confusion but Rachel was stubborn in her refusal to recognize a single red flag and she was a complete pushover. I didn’t like her or care about her as a character so I didn’t care about what happened in the book. This is one I sped up to 3x just to get finished. I will say it was interesting and fast paced, but I didn’t find it very twisty (even if it seemed that way for poor Rachel). Now I seem to be in the minority so feel free to give this one a chance. Rachel has a (not very) mysterious past although the reader gets slow amounts of details of it. She and her husband have moved to the seaside with their four year old child spending all of Rachel’s inheritance on the house frustrating Rachel but she is willing to compromise (or give in completely). But when they arrive the woman who helped with the purchase of the house, Chloe, is at the home and a little too interested in Rachel’s husband Tom. Despite Tom’s warning that Chloe is dangerous Rachel becomes friends with her. But no one is what they seem.
You, Me, Her by Sue Watson is a domestic psychological thriller novel set in Cornwall. You, Me, Her is told in the first person perspective by the main character in the present timeline but does slowly reveal some past events over the course of the book.
Rachel is happily married to her husband Tom and the two have their lovely little boy, Sam, together. Rachel inherited a huge sum of money and Tom convinced her it was time to get out of Manchester and move to Cornwall. The house that Rachel and Tom bought definitely needed a lot of renovating though so Tom moved on ahead to Cornwall while Rachel stayed behind with their son.
Now Rachel is finally joining Tom in Cornwall in their new home but the repairs and purchase have put yet another financial strain on them despite Rachel’s inheritance so Tom begins to travel again for work. Being left in a new town Rachel finds herself getting close to their realtor despite Tom warning her away from Chloe when they first met, surely her husband is wrong about the lovely new neighbor?
Sue Watson is an author that I have read many many times before and I always enjoy returning to her somewhat fast paced twisty thriller novels so I was excited to pick up You, Me, Her. It didn’t take any time at all to virtually travel over to Cornwall and get completely engaged in this story and this was the fast paced twisty tale that I expected. I was torn between wanting to munch on some popcorn as it all unfolded and throwing my popcorn at the character to get her to watch out for the reveal that was surely coming. Definitely an author I’ll continue to return to in the future.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
A supercharged Psychological thriller that you will become invested with right from the start.
I remember reading The Nursery by this author and subsequently bought a few more of her books, I saw this one on Netgalley and requested it in audio. The narrator did a fabulous job with the characters.
Although I kinda guessed a few things beforehand, I kid you not…..it made not one iota of difference to my entertainment as a reader and thoroughly enjoying being lead by the superb writing of Sue Watson.
Three main characters, all interwoven at a degree which will astound you.
I love a good book when nothing is as simple as it seems.
Have you a fear of something? It may be from a trauma or just inbuilt. Sometimes that fear isn’t rational.
What happens if someone confronts you by this fear. And what if that someone is trying to help? Or not to help.
Yet another book that is hard to review because the synopsis mentions every spoiler-free part! Rachel Frazer is the “me” in the title, her husband Tom is the “you”, and Chloe, their estate agent, is the “her”. What a messy situation this bunch is…
Rachel’s father has passed, and she inherited a good chunk of money from him - with the stipulation that her husband not be able to touch a penny of it without her consent. With her okay, he bought a huge house on the sea and completely renovated it, spending almost every dime (or whatever they have in England. Pence?) on it. Rachel and their son, Sam, moved from Manchester to the new place in Cornwall, but the big house doesn’t feel like home, for a variety of reasons.
Then, in comes Chloe - a younger, blonder woman who somehow still has keys to the house, even though it’s sold. Despite their first awkward meeting, Chloe and Rachel become tentative friends…until this turns into somewhat of a “Single White Female” situation. This woman is getting in the way of Rachel’s marriage, and she has no idea what to do…
This is a very typical “Fatal Attraction” thriller with a few twists and a lot of overused tropes. I guessed the ending, until the last chapter added something slightly different that I didn’t see coming. This isn’t deep or outstanding, but it’s a perfect, entertaining summer/beach read. 3.5 stars.
(Thank you to Bookouture, Sue Watson and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on June 3, 2024.)
This is a high quality binge audio.. it was fast packed pov story the pacing was spot on . It was cleverly written so at tines you didnt know who the victim and villian were. The final reveal screams sequel pretty please tie up the loose end. It was a pleasure to listen good great narration relatively short listen . I loved the way the characters changed their opinions of each other.
Highly recommended 5 star thanks netgallery and publisher and author and narrator
Categories: Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Publication date : June 3, 2024 Narrated by: Tamsin Kennard Length: 8 hrs and 57 mins
The story was quite interesting and kept me guessing. As this is a domestic thriller, then we have a cast of suspicious characters who lie or have something to hide.
I wish Rachel weren't so timid and gullible. At times she felt like an insecure teenager instead of being a women in her early 40s who should have gained more maturity and wisdom by that age. Okay, we all have some sort of "issues" but I felt like author spent too much time trying to hide what was the thing with Rachel and water. You can guess, so there not much point to tease with it. Now instead of building tension, this "big secret" just got irritating as the reveal just dragged on and on and on.
This book has been written thousands of times before and not even the first time was not a 4 stars one (let alone 5).
To say it's predictable is an understatement. The title and the first pages sum it up. In addition, I am so over reading these books about ...not naive, straight up stupid women who have no friends, blind to the obvious and who've been living in a what seems to be complete paradise with the perfect man until the last pages when he is a monster and she never seen it coming, although pretty much everyone else did. This is not even a cliche, it's a stupid plot about stupid people.
This was an intriguing read. Tons of it didn't add up, which added up to the suspense and my suspicion of everyone. I had no clue who to trust. It was a good read with some interesting twists and turns along the way!
Prieš paimdama naują psichologinį trilerį į rankas viliuosi, jog jis mane nustebins. Tuo pačiu tikuosi, jog autoriui ar autorei pavyks sukurti atitinkamą nuotaiką bei sukelti įtampą. Ar tai pavyko įgyvendinti Sue Watson?
Šis psichologinis trileris, deja, tačiau man pasirodė niekuo neišsiskiriantis šio žanro platybėse.
Visa istorija man buvo labai primityvi. Atspėjau kas ir už ko slypi, tad ir atomazga manęs nenustebino. Kas neskaitote šio žanro, ar dar tik norite pradėti pažintį, ši istorija turėtų būti kaip tik. Man šį kartą pritrūko originalumo.
I guessed the ending of this book from about 20% in as well as the twists - it wasn’t an unpleasant read and I wanted to read it until the end but comparing it to other books it was only worth of 2.5✨ but rounded down.
I will try another of her books, but I’m not in any rush to take off my TBR list!
You, me, her is a gripping thriller about lies, gaslighting and trahison. Our main character, Rachel has got a large inheritance after her dad’s passing and she and her husband, Tom bought a house and renovated it with the money and they just moved in with their four year son Sam. But when their estate agent, Chloe shows in unexpected, things start to get suspicious…
This was such an easy and quick read! The writing is simple and smooth, and the characters were full of surprises. We have a hard time figuring out who’s lying and who’s telling the truth and we see Rachel getting more and more paranoid but too naïve and trusting at the same time. The plot was good and it explores trauma and PTSD as the main character has a fear of bodies of water due to something that happened in her past. It also explores the love of money and the lengths people are willing to go for it. This book was definitely a good surprise for me!
Fairly predictable thriller including the last twist but I still had a great time listening to it and it did its job distracting me from rl. Great narrator too
This is my first Sue Watson book, I don’t think this authors writing style is for me. The dialogue in this felt clunky at best. I found it hard to relate and love the FMC because she was written as someone who wouldn’t see a burning building even if it was right in front of her. I found her annoying and her reliance on Tom grating.
The pacing in this was slow at best and the twists and turns were predictable. The ending did not make up for it and I was left wanting more. As someone who reads a lot of thrillers the end and the big twist are important to me and this book just didn’t deliver.
This was a fun fast paced thriller! It kept me turning pages and had my full attention. I wanted to shake the main character a few times and be like “hello!!! Pay attention!” I feel like it was so obvious that her husband putting in that pool was cruel. The poor lady had trauma with water and he keeps shoving the pool down her throat. I did guess the big twist about half way through but I was still fully captivated by the story and needed to see how all the pieces would fit together. The end was a little abrupt to me and I would have liked a confrontation but overall I still really enjoyed this book. Thank you to NetGalley for my copy!
The cover (and synopsis for that matter) totally ruins and spoils the book. This story would have been much, much better if I went in without knowing there was going to be a mistress and a death. That said, because of the cover (and synopsis) I kept reading waiting for the mistress to be revealed and the murder to happen. If murder is on the cover, I shouldn't have to wait until 85% to get to the murder.
I also kept waiting for the mistress which took away many elements of the surprise reveals. I had guessed the mistress reveal long before the end. I did like the story and pacing, even though I thought the MC was a bit of a dumb dumb, I just wish it hadn't been so spoiled for me. I also noticed there were some repetitive statements, such as the MC comparing people to a limpet. The first time she said it I LOL'd and thought it was clever then she said it again and I was disappointed.
I get that in order for these "bad husband" stories to work, the wife needs to be an ostrich and/or a dumb dumb but with her being a 42yo reporter it was even harder to swallow. Reporters are curious by nature and skeptical....
SUMMARY: Rachel is terrified of all bodies of water because of a trauma in her past. You can guess the trauma but it isn't told/revealed until 95%. Lots of carrot-and-stick with that.
ANYWAY, despite Rachel's extreme fear of bodies of water, to be a nice wifey, she moves to a beach town because her husband really really really wants to live there. He's moved ahead of her to renovate their new home himself since he was made redundant at work and now Rachel and their 4y0 son have come to join him. Rachel is most excited about the house's garden, having always loved gardens and The Secret Garden was her favorite childhood book. She can't wait to see all the flowers... only her husband has installed a pool. He also used all of her inheritance to do it. Rachel actually believes her husband when he says he thought she'd like it. (See what I mean about a dumb dumb?)
Anyway... their first night, the real estate agent stops by and she is friendly to Rachel but when she leaves, hubby tells Rachel to steer clear of her. She's BAD NEWS see. He also says he used to work with her and she's a real wackado. Rachel thinks it's a little odd her husband has never mentioned knowing their realtor before but again, dumb dumb lets it go. Husband keeps acting a little strange, always has excuses of course, and Rachel keeps eating shit sandwiches. She also goes against her husband's back and becomes friends with the woman, who eventually tells Rachel omgeee I'm so sorry I had an affair with your husband but I really like you! Rachel thinks this woman is crazy a la SWF vibes and is scared. Little does she know...
Thanks netgalley for my ALC. I will look for more books by this author as I did like it, though I really think it would have been a lot better without the "spoilers"
Disclaimer: I'm allergic to protagonists who ignore red flags and make the worst decisions possible.
The book is fast-paced, but I guessed all the major plot twists.
The story follows Rachel, who just moved into her new house in Cornwall, which her husband has been renovating. On the same night, she meets Chloe, who casually lets herself in to "drop papers" from the estate agent. Despite Rachel's husband's warnings about Chloe, they start to bond. However, secrets loom large, and Rachel feels a presence watching her, driving her to the brink of sanity.
While the book was an easy read, I wasn't head over heels for the story. Here's why:
》As mentioned in my disclaimer, I can't stand protagonists who ignore blatant red flags. Rachel's life is full of ominous signs, yet she keeps putting herself at risk. It's infuriating.
》The first-person narrative from Rachel should mean she hears every conversation. Yet, when her son casually mentions "daddy's friend," she seems to miss it. In a third-person narrative, this might be acceptable, but not in first-person. It's just not believable.
》The blurb portrays Rachel as stronger and smarter than she actually is. It suggests she knows more than everyone assumes, but in reality, she's clueless.
》There are several plot holes and dropped plotlines. For instance, Rachel hears about a body under the flowerbed, finds it strange, and then it's never mentioned again.
》The ending aims to shock, but it's entirely predictable. Just think of the most shocking betrayal possible, and you've got it—even if it doesn't make complete sense.
Not everything was a miss, though. Here are a few things I liked:
》The portrayal of stalking and the accompanying nerve-chilling fear is spot-on. The constant self-doubt and questioning reality are well depicted.
》Rachel is sensible with finances, recognizing what is excessive and what is necessary, ensuring they don't go overboard.
Overall, I wasn't awed by the story, but I wasn't bored either. It held my attention.
2 stars
