Hilary and Aria have never needed anyone but each other. Because Aria's father left Nantucket before she was born, Hilary isn't sure why anyone would fall in love on purpose, and she's fought hard to become a sought-after interior designer for Sotheby's. Plus, now that Aria left Tufts University, she's been tagging along with her mother as an interior design apprentice, which thrills them both.
But everything changes in August, when Hilary notices something wrong with her eyes. This happens smack-dab in the middle of a gig out in San Francisco, where her ex just happens to live these days—and where she and Aria play "happy family" with him in a way that breaks both of their hearts.
As Hilary and Aria whip back and forth from San Francisco to Nantucket, Hilary's eyes continue to worsen, and she begins to reckon with the fact that her eyes—and her career—might be on the verge of failing. Add to that a handsome stranger who's falling for her—and the fact that the moment he learns about her eyes, he'll probably drop her.
But not all is as it seems, and as Hilary and Aria learn and grow within their careers, their relationships, and with one another, they find ways to fight their inner darkness and find hope, despite terrible circumstances.
Katie writes women's fiction and clean, wholesome contemporary romance. She looks to everyday, real-life family issues to weave stories of heartfelt emotions, love and loss, and everything in between.

Waves of Time is book 3 in the Coleman series by Katie Winters. 4.5 stars
A well written story about small town Nantucket, Coleman family dynamics, a health scare, secrets and connections. Can’t wait for the next book in the series!
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Katie Winters tackles yet another tough topic in Waves of Time, book 3 in her Coleman series. It's youngest sister Hilary's turn, and she faces a grave health scare. Hilary and her 21-year-old daughter Aria, born of a college romance, have a pseudo Gilmore Girls family, a single mom and her brilliant daughter, but instead of an inn owner and a Yale student, Hilary is a top interior designer and Aria is a college drop-out who apprentices to her mother and is so gifted, Hilary's boss at Sotheby's hints at a job for her before long. The newest client for Hilary is in San Francisco, home of Aria's father. Marc meets them at the airport, treats them to dinner at a high-end restaurant, then drops off Hilary at the hotel so he can take Aria to a club. Aria sees an old college friend there and is shocked to see her doing drugs. Offended at her refusal to join them, the college friend and her coworkers mock Aria for being "lame" and homesick for Nantucket. The San Francisco client introduces Hilary and Aria to his friend, Frank, who recently moved to Nantucket and wants to hire Hilary to redo his new house. He's handsome, charming, and local, so Hilary promptly accepts. But all their "design meetings" turn into dates, and soon Hilary is in over her head. So much for being fine without a man! Meanwhile, Aria has a summer job at a seafood cafe--and a flirtation with Thaddeus, the cute guy who shows up near closing time to invite her to his band's concerts at house parties. He performs directly to her, they kiss a few times, and Aria finds herself in the same situation as her mom. Gilmore Girls, they're not! Aria knows Thaddeus has been working odd jobs to provide for his family, but when one of his bandmates hints to her that drug selling was one of those jobs, Aria feels stupid. She asks Thaddeus, but he swears he used to do that but stopped after high school, focusing on auto repair and Uber driving to make ends meet. Not up to Coleman family standards, but Thaddeus is hard to resist... Hilary has been experiencing inexplicable flashes of light across her field of vision, then excruciating eye pain. She tries to ignore it, but when she has to pull over because she can't see the road, she lets Aria convince her to see a doctor. Diagnosis: advanced glaucoma. Prognosis: immediate surgery--or blindness. Hilary is in despair. What can a blind woman who's made a career out of something that requires both sight (what's in front of her) and vision (what a space could be) do without either? Marc arrives, and he overrides Aria's and Hilary's protests that they don't need his help. Hilary's mother brings dozens of dishes and feeds everybody. The only person missing from the impromptu family party is Samantha, whose relationship with her sister was frosty but imploded when Hilary told Sam that her ugly "antique" chandelier was a fake and accidentally broke it. (Having read the Coleman series book 1, The Jessabelle House, I take Hilary's description of Sam as "petty" with a grain of salt; Sam described Hilary as stiff and cold in her book, after all!) Hilary's surgery goes as well as expected. She will need to rest and heal for several weeks, and Samantha, of all people, volunteers to keep her company! They make peace over the chandelier at last, and the sisters appear to be on track for a better future together. Marc expresses his desire to move back to Nantucket, and it doesn't bother Hilary as much as it should; in attempting to surprise Frank, she saw two men taking a bag of cash from his basement window and putting another bag in its place, so she called the police and learned he was in charge of distribution of drugs for the island. The police obtained a warrant to search his property and found several kinds of hard drugs--cocaine, heroin, meth, and speed--in the bag Hilary saw. She dodged a bullet there! With Frank behind bars and Thaddeus's honesty confirmed, Hilary and Aria can return to their previous life, but with Marc back in the picture (Hilary never loved anyone after him--not even Frank), and Aria free to complete Hilary's unfinished project in San Francisco...and fast-track her way to Sotheby's! A physical scare is every bit as traumatic as marital unfaithfulness (book 1) or survivor's guilt (book 2), and Katie Winters brings Hilary's terror to life. Subplots, like the questions about Thaddeus's odd jobs and the business Frank conducts, cause additional anxiety but ultimately don't matter in the grand scheme of things. Sight--and vision--can make or break a career and a life. Other things fade into the background, to use a visual metaphor. I commend Katie's courage in bringing such a terrible possibility to light (another visual turn of phrase). Highly recommended!
Nantucket MA Hilary and Aria, mother daughter interior designer team. Work together on house in San Fran. Where Arias dad lives. They go there for work. He picks them up has dinner with him. Aria loves them being together, shes never had the parents it’s always been just the mom. While working in San Fran Hilary begins to have white spots in her eyes. She ignores it, but with time it get worse. While home Aria works as a waitress and gets to know Thaddeus, he plays in a band has a rough live parents are worthless he takes care of the kids. Working 2+ jobs. At one time even sold drugs. But he’s cleaned himself up. Hillary’s eyes gets bad and they have to do surgery she may go blind. But makes it through. Marc, Aria dad come to take care of her. And they get together. The family glare always a part of the story that I love. I forget this is the family where the dad left them in Nantucket and has another family with 2 daughters on Martha’s Vineyard.
This book is all about connections - family, friends, work and "play". The main characters are Hilary, her grown daughter Aria and Aria's father Marc, who lives in San Francisco. Interior designer Hilary has only needed her daughter Aria for years, and Aria is now her apprentice. Appearances can be deceiving and it's hard to know how to trust and make decisions. When Hilary is faced with a major health problem, she learns who really cares for her. Despite the idyllic setting of Nantucket Island, there is a dark side which is important to the book's events. It's nice to see love re-ignite itself in this book. The plot was unique and the characters well-drawn.
Katie Winters is a truly gifted author using her talent to touch on some of the toughest issues/topics people can experience on their everyday lives. In book 3 Hilary is tasked with learning to accept her newly found difficulties with her much needed sight. Her job, her entire life as an interior designer, uses her sight to bring g her visions to completion. Sometimes in life however, what we think we see isn’t necessarily the truth. Katie Winters does a masterful job highlighting the realization of how our “inner sight” actually plays a far greater role in our existence than we often realize. Excellent job! ❤️
Wow. I just don’t know what to make of this Coleman series. It’s an amazing mix of love and angst and betrayal. The storyline in this one went in so many different directions, it was difficult to follow in places. Some of the characters were so awful, you just wanted to smack them upside the head! The plot was really something and kept me interested…but the ending was really so good and left you hungry for more. This book is worth a read, so grab a copy today. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and was so glad I did!) Well done, Katie! ❤️
A good addition to the Coleman Family series. Interior designer Hilary has basically raised daughter Aria alone. Aria is working at a restaurant and serving as an intern to her know mom. A work trip to San Francisco finds the mother daughter duo reconnecting with Marc, Hilary’s first love. A health scare has Hilary building a better relationship with her sister Sam
Small town Nantucket drama, a musician, a drug dealer stir up the plot
Hilary learns love and family can always be relied on
Thank you to the author for this ARC. This review is my honest opinion
Loved loved the series. Katie Winters is an awesome author. I've read probably over a thousand books in my lifetime. With many different authors with many different styles of writing. And I can honestly say Katie's style of writing is fantastic and very different. Her books aren't as long as I normally like to read but I can't wait to start the next one. I strongly recommend her books!
Great story with interesting characters, however I found the over use of phases such as "palmed the back of his head" " placed her hair behind her ear" to be annoying. The one particular word I find over used in books is; incredulous. I have been wanting to say this for a long time. I have read many of Katie Winters books and loved them. She is a good author.
The Coleman series s just getting started and this book focuse don Hillary and Aria. It’s a coming of age story for Aria - getting her to real size her potential and maybe fall in love along the way. When Hillary struggles with flashing lights - her family rallies around her - including her old love. Can’t wait to see where that story goes in the next book. Great story!
Great story focusing on Hilary and Aria. They are stars in the interior designer world, but life tends to interfere. Hilary struggles with her cold relationship with her sister, Sam. A new medical issue could derail her career and between her and Aria who picks the wrong guy. A page turner for sure. Don’t miss this one.
I love the Coleman family. Each book is as good as the last one. Hillary is so brave raising her daughter practically alone and facing eye surgery. However the way the entire family supported her wss heartwarming. And her daughter has an excellent relationship with her Dad Marc. I know the series will have to end eventually but I don't want it to.
If your looking for a feel good family story this series is the one. Katie Winters weaves family dynamics into your heart and soul. The characters come to life on the pages. A well written story line and every day topics and issues we all have going on in our lives at one point in time. A must read and enjoy this uplifting story.
Another book by Katie Winters full of drama, family, love, and everyday real-life situations, such as, drugs and possibly the lost of one’s eyesight! Love reconnecting with the characters in her books!
The story about the Coleman's continues you wonder about a couple of characters are not who you think they are not going to name them read the 3 rd boo k to see what hsppens
Usually by the time I get this far in a series I've had enough. But with this one I am actually looking forward to the next one. The author has kept me interested.
All families have their ups and downs, most especially the Coleman family to be sure. Family dinners, however, seem to be gluing them back together a few pieces at a time.
Katie Winters writes about true families and the heartaches and fullfilments of everyday life you can relate to! Enjoy! I can read a whole series in a couple of days!
Again, an amazing book. I'd never read any of Katie's books before this series. She tells this family story with love and grace. The book shows no matter how successful you are, or how many money you have, we all have pain and heartbreak.
This book was very well written. There is crime, drama and mystery. The Coleman's are learning to rekindle with their siblings, and they are now being there for one another. There is two loves stories in this book. I really enjoyed this story.
If you're interested in good, clean romance then this series is for you! It still addresses real life problems that all families face so its not fluffy! I highly recommend it!!!
This book was full of interesting problems and how Hillary solved the eye problem and how her whole family rallied around her. Marc returning to Nantucket. I am looking forward to the next book
I am enjoying this series. I love reading about each member of the family. Also, continuing to read about the members from the previous books. Very enjoyable and heartwarming.
