I was born and raised in Southern California. I received my Master's Degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills. I have worked in nursing for over fifteen years. I have worked in multiple areas of nursing. However, my passion is for emergency medicine. Oh the stories I can tell.

My passion wasn't always nursing. When I started college, I wanted to be a writer. However, I had a teacher that made me less then happy about writing and I chose to go into nursing. Since then, I have always had stories in my head that I wanted to put on paper but never found the time.

I married my wonderful husband whom I met while working in the intensive care unit. We have three active and amazing boys that consistently keep me on my toes. We spend a lot of time watching the boys baseball games, snowboarding in Mammoth, and watching the oldest son play high school football. I happen to be the photographer for his team and I spend a lot of time on the field!

So with all of the activities in my life, where do I find the time to write? Needless to say, I am an insomniac. When I am not up in the middle of the night reading, I get up about five in the morning and start writing. Most days, this gives me an hour and a half to write as much as I can. During the summer months, I am blessed with a lighter schedule and more time to put my thoughts to paper.

I started writing a Shot in the Dark in March of 2012. I was sitting in an airport waiting standby for a plane back to San Diego. I had time to kill. Before I knew it, I had four chapters written. Due to my busy schedule supervising an emergency department, I never found the time to continue my story.

In November of 2012, I resigned from my position and decided to stay home with my children. This afforded me time to finish "A Shot in the Dark" and find a publisher. I was lucky enough to be picked up by Black Rose Writing. A Shot in the Dark will be released July 11, 2012. I am currently working on the sequel, Into the Light, and hope to have it finished by the end of the summer! I am also working on an untitled novel I hope to have completed by the end of the year.

Check out A Shot in the Dark. I hope you will enjoy it!

"I'll come find you someday."
She put her hand to her swollen lips, "I'll be waiting."
"Oh and Kate?"
She cocked her head to the side giving her full attention. God, she was cute. "My birthday is April 16th. It happens to be the same date as my parents anniversary." ~ Tony Lupito (Massimo Bertalucci)

Katherine Anderson is a hard working New York restaurant critic. When she finds her fiancé in a compromising position mere months before their wedding, she kicks him to the curb and goes alone on their romantic Italian honeymoon. Right then and there I decided I like Katherine. She had to be a strong woman to go on that trip alone. Little does she know, this trip is going to be the ride of a lifetime.

Tony Lupito is a swoon worthy dark haired, sparkling green eyed, olive skinned stranger Katherine notices on the train (that combination of looks is my complete weakness, so I get your reaction Kate, I really do). They share a look and a word on the train and it seems like that's the end of their meeting. It's not. Tony needs to find someone to safely get him out of Italy to the United States. It looks like Kate is his mark. So he starts showing up wherever she is.

Why does he need to get out of Italy? Well you would think being in the olive oil business is a relatively safe way to make a living. Well at least I would. Anyway, somehow, Tony (whose real name is Massimo Bertalucci) and his family have gotten mixed up in a black market olive oil cartel. It's a big enough deal for Tony's entire family to lose their lives and Tony to be on the run with a beautiful American woman. I admit, I was like, black market olive oil? Come on. But seriously, read on because as you're reading it all starts to make sense.

Ok, back to Katherine and Tony, because their attraction to each other is immediate. And the more time they spend together, the more relaxed Katherine becomes with him. Which is exactly what Tony needs for his plan on using Katherine to get him out of the country. Katherine, who has always been a good girl and played it safe decides to throw caution to the wind and seduces Tony. It's a very hot scene and damn I know I'd like to be in the same bed with Tony.

Throw into this mix, an American FDA agent and Italian Polizia and you have some serious suspense. Especially since you're never quite sure who the good guys and the bad guys are. I'm trying so very hard not to give any spoilers, because if you enjoy mystery and romance you need to one click this book.

Believe me, you're not going to know who's going to come out of this alive and when you find out who's behind the cartel and the reason for his causing so much damage, holy plot twist. You'll also want to just beat him senseless (I know I did).

There's a little bit of everything in this story, romance, suspense, and even a car chase scene which I totally held my breath for, because you just don't know who's going to come out alive.

I am a huge fan of the setting of Surrender. The description of all of the spots in Italy Katherine visits are on point. I love the scene at the Trevi Fountain. I also love the description of the restaurants and the foods. I was feeling hungry (and a little jealous) as I read about all of the delicious food Katherine got to try as she went from city to city.

I'm going to give you something to look for as you're reading. The part of the book with the ring....swoon. That's all I'm going to say. With that being said, I'm giving Surrender by Jennifer Burrows a four lip smack review. The characters, the setting and the plot will keep you involved throughout the entire story.

****ARC read in exchange for honest review****

I was sent a book recommendation by a friend for this book. I read the blurb and became intrigued, so I decided to give this book a go. I am glad I did, because I loved it!

Katherine Anderson is a wonderful character. I liked her a lot. She is a food critic, with the power to make or break a restaurant or café. After coming home early and finding her fiancé in a compromising position, she decides to take the honeymoon trip to Italy in an attempt to figure out what to do. Meeting a charming Italian man wasn’t part of her plans, but Tony Bertalucci is unlike any other man she has met.

Massimo “Tony Lupito” Bertalucci is also a wonderful character. I liked this charismatic and charming man. His family has been involved in the production of olive oil for several generations, but after an attack by a black market cartel that left his family dead and him running scared, he sees Katherine as his salvation.

I started to read this story and found it to be an exciting and thrilling read, which hooked me from the first page. I could fully picture the story in my own mind with clarity, due to the descriptive writing of the author. I have never been to Italy, but the way it is described, especially the city of Florence, I felt like I was there. But, the descriptions also made me feel sad that I really wasn’t! I am seriously considering visiting Italy for real.

The story is told through not only Katherine’s and Tony’s points of view, but also through the eyes of an American FDA agent, Special Agent Daniel Thompson. I liked this agent, as he is dedicated and seems to be honourable. He and his Italian compatriot, Agent Andreo Manchetti are investigating the cartel and the connection to the Bertalucci family. The story is full of twists and turns, and has a villain that chilled my blood! He is completely psychotic, and his identity is a total shock! The feeling of terror, paranoia and disbelief that Tony feels is palpable and had me jumping at perfectly normal noises at home. It also had me feeling sorry for Katherine, as she had no idea through most of the story about the danger following Tony. But, once she is involved, I was completely in awe of her level head and inner strength. I am not sure if I would be so calm in a similar situation, but I suppose since her life had already imploded, she just took it in her stride. I did find myself in tears several times throughout the story, so a tissue may be required. I reached the end of the story and nearly screamed out loud in surprise, because there is a huge twist. I couldn’t wait to see what happens next, so I have downloaded Shattered, the next book in the trilogy, and I hope to start reading it as soon as possible.

Jennifer Burrows has written a fantastic, intense and suspenseful thriller. I love her fast paced writing style and the flow of the story is wonderful. I am definitely planning on reading more books by this author in the future.

Due to scenes of a sexual nature that are a little on the explicit side, as well as scenes of violence, I do not recommend this book for younger readers or those of a sensitive nature. However, I highly recommend this book to readers who love romantic thrillers, mysteries or suspense novels. – Lynn Worton

** I received an ARC for an honest review.**

Well, let me start by saying that this story is so much different that any other book that I have read. It has an original storyline and it is very well written. The characters are very east to connect with. The book is written in third person and usually I am not really a fan of it, but it was definitely what made this story work. Instead just getting one side you get all sides of the story and having all sides is a must. There are so many things going on in this book that third person is very much appreciated.

I won't give any spoilers, but holy geez I did not see it coming. I was guessing like any normal person would and when the "Big Reveal" happened I did not see it coming. My thought process didn't even go there. It wasn't disappointing in the least.

Okay...so when this book really starts, we meet Kate after she has caught her cheating fiancee with another woman. She is taking what is supposed to be her honeymoon by herself and is feeling a little down and untrusting of everything and everyone she meets. I really liked Kate's personality. She is very strong if not a bit beat down, but considering what she just went through she should be a little off. I like that when she meets Tony she is feeling a little uncertain about him and gets a little bit of an uneasy feeling, although the attraction quickly starts to outweigh those first feelings. I could definitely feel the attraction from both their characters. That is what made the third person so great.

So, we already know that Tony is going through some stuff and is sort of on the run from his life. I like the little pieces of information that unfold as we find out more about Tony and the type of person he is and how he can not seem to stop his attraction towards Kate. Even if it is at the most inopportune time in his life. I too was a little weary of Tony at first because of his ulterior motive in befriending Kate, but I do like that he quickly comes to the realization that his original plan isn't going to work.

Now when this story really gets going I definitely had that gasping moment and couldn't wait to find out how it was all going to play out. I definitely did not see any of it coming at all. This story had me on my toes at all time just waiting to see what was going to happen.

The only bad thing that I have to say about this book is that I feel like the ending left me a little unsatisfied. I have a lot of questions and I want to know what happened. I am hoping that there will be some sort of novella with Tony's POV of things that happened during his absence. But I must say that I did love the epilogue and Kate's newfound outlook on life. I definitely think that this needs to be added to the good ole TBR.

Katherine (Kate) and Tony meet by chance. She has taken a trip to Italy, on what was supposed to be her honeymoon, to get away from her cheating ex-fiancé. Tony has lost his family and wants to know who is responsible for their murder, before he leaves Italy behind. Once they meet, Tony sees Kate as his ticket to freedom and decides to pose as a tourist, traveling with her.

They are attracted to each other and spend much time together, still trying to not give in to their attraction. He shows her around Italy, while Kate promises to give him a tour of New York when he visits. But as luck would have it, things are never as simple as they seem and suddenly they both find themselves in danger. Kate learns that Tony is not who he says he is and now they’re both running for their lives.

This book is full of so much suspense, action, and intrigue that you’ll wish to finish only to find out what the secrets are. When that one specific moment hits you, you will be gasping in incredulous surprise.

I loved Kate’s strong and resilient disposition and Tony’s take charge attitude. Their chemistry is palpable and the romance was nicely woven into the mystery of the story. That ending, though…I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.

I read the blurb and was like this has got to be a good book. Good girl, decent guy, the cartel yep it has to be good.
I sat down around 9:00 this morning and between hanging out with my daughter and doing housework I was finally able to finish this book around 2:30 in the afternoon. It was hard for me to put down as I was wondering where would this book take me.

I was not disappointed at all. Katherine is what I would call normal she has a job as a food critic which I think is totally cool, and one day while going to a restaurant she ends up sick which makes her return home. On returning home she discovers something very horrible her fiance in bed with another woman. Duh, duh dun! I think that is how that goes. With her now ex-fiance cheating on her Katherine decides to head to Italy! Which I think is a great idea as to now she can try to forget Mike and see something new I think that is what she needs.
Now when she first comes to Italy she meets this handsome green-eyed Italian hunk. He of course has his eyes set on her and it is not for the right reasons or at least not at first. This is where she meets Tony. But there is more to Tony than meets the eye.
Tony has a past and is being hunted down by the cartel but he doesn't want Katherine to know this because she is his way out of the country.
As we watch these two characters we can see the spark start igniting between them. It starts off with dinners, and then eventually Katherine going with Tony to where he needs answers, and then soon the couple who are not truly a couple end up in trouble. We see how Katherine is able to survive and take the worse kind of punishment she is survivor and I liked that. When she was in trouble she didn't play the victim of giving up, she played the role of she was going to survive this though she wasn't sure how.
The ending was one I was hoping for.
The book is full of action, love, heartache and there are some people you just can not trust. It is a good book to sit down and devour if you have the time.

The author did a great job of describing places to visit, dinners to eat, the way the food taste to where I want to visit Italy some day. The way she described seeing places for a tourist I could imagine myself there and that was what I liked.

Heavy on Action, Light on Romance

Surrender is my first Jennifer Burrows book and I enjoyed it. While I like my reads with a little more romance, the details and action in the story made up for it. The book felt like a movie going on in your head as you read along.

Kathrine is a woman scorned. After walking in on her fiance and some tramp, she decides to take her honeymoon trip to Italy alone. A strong woman from New York, Kathrine doesn't mind seeing the sights and beauty of Italy on her own, however seeing them with the handsome man from the train can't hurt either.

Tony is a man on the run. Everything he knows was destroyed by the cartel and now he needs to find out why. First Tony has to retrieve some paperwork left by his father in case of a situation just like this, but the paperwork is spread across a few countries and will take some time to retrieve. Tony needs a cover, a way out of Italy unnoticed and Katherine fits the bill. What he didn't expect was to fall for her.

So Tony and Katherine are seeing the sights, going dinners and getting to know each other, all the while the cartel is getting closer and closer to finding him. They are also figuring out who Katherine actually is and what they can get for her. And the adventure begins.

The book is well written and the details of each situation spectacular. I would classify this as more of an action/adventure book rather than a full blown romance. It's a great read with an epilogue that ties things up nicely.

I am constantly surprised by the number of mediocre books that have 10,000+ ratings while hundreds of high quality indie titles with unique, creative plots; interesting, three-dimensional characters; perfect pacing to keep you engaged; and only minor grammatical errors/typos have just a handful of ratings.

Surrender falls into this latter category. Although this is an indie book, it reads very close to a traditionally-published book. I wouldn't have been surprised if someone had handed it to me and said it had been published by Penguin.

My favorite part by far was the unique plot that relies on actual conflict rather than perceived conflict due to miscommunication as is so popular right now. I also love how unexpected the plot was. Olive oil cartels. Seriously? I had to look this up because it seemed so ridiculous, but they actually exist! Burrows clearly did her research, not only into the cartels, but also into geography as she painted very vivid pictures of Italian cities and countryside.

I also really enjoyed Burrow's writing style. To me, it's like James Patterson meets Nicholas Sparks. It has all the action and intensity of Patterson with a nice dose of romance a la Sparks.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes action-packed romantic mysteries. You need to read it and spread the word. This is a book that deserves many more ratings and reviews than it currently has. As for me, I can't wait to read more by Burrows!

What would you do if you came home to find the man you were about to marry in your bed with another woman. Katherine never thought she would have to figure that out just three weeks before her wedding.

After being crushed by her fiancée, Katherine decided to go ahead and go alone on her honeymoon trip to Italy. She needed to get her head together and get over the betrayal. While on the train, she was drawn to a gorgeous dark haired man with piercing emerald eyes.

Tony is a man haunted by the tragic death/murders of his family. He knows he was supposed to die with the rest of his family and it wouldn't be long before the cartel figured out he was alive. Tony had to figure out what the cartel was after and then get out of the country. While on the train, Tony figured out that the beautiful American woman traveling alone may be his key to keeping his identity hidden in order to get out of the country. What Tony didn't count on was actually falling for Katherine.

This book is filled with romance, action and suspense. Katherine gets caught up in the insanity of the cartels vendetta against Tony. She falls for Tony only to find out that Tony is not who he says he is. She is facing the fight of her life and now battles with her head and her heart to trust again.

This is the first book that I have read by Jennifer Burrows and it will not be my last. I really enjoyed this book!

Okie dokie ladies, this was a good book!
Katherine had everything. A career, her family, and a wonderful fiancé. Until she caught him in bed with another woman. Sick of everything that has to do with damage her ex fiancé caused. Katherine decides she needed a change. So she goes on her honeymoon solo. This is where she meets a sexy stranger on the train.
Tony Bertalucci, the only survivor of the Bertalucci family, which owns and produces about 10% of the country's Olive Oil. Tony's family was murdered by the cartel. Tony believes that Katherine is his only option he has to get out of the country and now Katherine has been dragged into this danger with the cartel war by association to Tony, Katherine is scared and confused by her emotions for Tony. She doesn't know if he feels as deeply for her or if he's using her just like her ex-fiancé Mike. Can she get past the hurt and betrayal that the ex fiancé has caused and if she should open herself up to possibly be hurt again when she meets Tony who is dealing with so much pain from the loss of his family and the uncertainty of what to do now. This book is definitely read. Absolutely loved it!

Ok it's going to be so hard for me to write a review on this book because I have so many emotions going on right now plus I don't like to give away spoilers. So first we meet Katherine and something terrible happens to her and she decides to take a trip and get away. That's when we meet Tony and oh I loved Tony!!! I love how the story is told in both of the characters POVs and also another POV. But as the story is being told through both you start to put clues together with Tony and also seeing Katherine get over her issue. But just when you think everything is ok them BAM the story just turns and your sitting on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what is going on. It took me a while before I fully figured everything out and man my head is still spinning thinking about this story. If you love suspense and love then this is the story for you!! Make sure you get this book!! So good!!!!

Ok, this book was crazy good!
Katherine Anderson had a promising career, a loving family, and a wonderful fiancé. Or so she thought, right up until she caught him in bed with another woman. Sick of the lies and deceit from her ex-fiancé. She decides she needed a change. So she went on her honeymoon solo. This is where she meets a sexy stranger on the train. Tony Lupito. (This is the name he gives her)
Tony is really Massimo Bertalucci, the only survivor of the Bertalucci family, which they own and produce about 10% of the country's Olive Oil. Tony's family was murdered by the cartel.
Dragged into this cartel war by association to Tony, Katherine is running scared. She's confused by her emotions for Tony. She doesn't know if he really feels deeply for her or if he's using her just like her ex-finance Mike.
This book is definitely worth the read. Absolutely loved it!

Have to confess I was a bit confused by the start of the book, was getting settled for a nice romance story, the way you have so many of them.
The entrance of the man in the tale, typical holiday romance getting on the way, still nothing to worry about.
Until you get dragged in the heat of the story, action getting always faster and faster, and the feelings between the two main characters growing with it (as was to be expected).
I could have done with a bit less violence in a certain part of the story, but it was well used to make a point about what kind of persons we're dealing with.
I liked the end, just open enough to hope for a next book to come about them, but still so finished you can read this book just like this.

All in all, I would recommend this book to people that like their books with action and romance. Certainly a writer to grap the next book from!

Katherine is a New York food critic, due to marry her fiancé Mike, in three months time. She returns home early to find Mike in bed with another woman. Instead of the romantic honeymoon they had planned, Katherine finds herself in Italy, determined to sight see and savour the country on her own. She meets Tony aka Massimo and her holiday takes a different turn.

The story is well conceived though it didn't 'get going' for me until the police action, led by Thompson and Manchetti, embarked on surveillance ops, worldwide police co-operation...no spoilers but this, for me, is where Burrows shines.

I enjoyed watching Katherine's character developing through the book but overall, it was the style of writing that wasn't for me. The story, however, is a good one and what it lacked in lilt and flow and finesse, the pace kept me reading.

What can I say? The book entertained and more than anything I want a book to entertain me when I read it.
Now I do not want to stultify myself here but I found the idea of illicit trade in olive oil both novel and intriguing and then it is the romance.

Admittedly, I figured once she knew why he made friends with her she would leave him like yesterday's garbage. The fact that they managed to get past that was gripping and near the end when all hope seemed lost I kept thinking, no, no, no, no. This cannot and should not end like this.

Loved the ending and if I were you....I would read this book. Hope I find the time to write the next book in the series.

I was given an ARC of Surrender to write an honest review.
Jennifer's book had me on an emotional roller coaster. I felt that it was a major page turner that made me want to keep reading to hear more but take my time and savor.
Katherine had everything in life that she wanted only to find that things were not what they seemed. Instead of moping around, she set out on a fantastic trip to Italy. On her trip she met Tony and her life changed forever.
I don't want to give anything away but let's just say you've got to read this book!

Was hoping I would like this book and was not disappointed.I felt Katherine's heart break over her fiance's betrayal. Her uncertainty over if she should open herself up to possibly be hurt again when she meets Tony who is dealing with so much pain from the loss of his family and the uncertainty of what to do now. This book is a wild ride of emotions and the detailed descriptions of the places and food were amazing I actually felt like I was there. If you haven't read this book yet you should read it as soon as you can you will not regret it.

This is a fast paced story about a woman who travels to Europe after a life changing event. Little did she know her dream vacation was about to be a disaster. I enjoyed the story line, it was entertaining and stayed at a good pace. I wasn't a fan of how quickly things moved along between our main character and her European beau. I'm not a fan of weaker female leads, especially when they make so many smart choices and then turn stupid when talking to a man. I felt the ending was a bit abrupt, we found out something only for it to end the entire book. Overall great read.

"Surrender (Surrender Trilogy Book 1)" by Jennifer Burrows is an entertaining rollercoaster of romantic suspense.
It is fast paced, rich in plot and action and will keep you on your toes.
The main characters are well chosen. A food critic who catches her fiance cheating, and an Italian man on the run from the Mafia. We're seeing both perspectives through the alternating narrative, which works very well. The setting in Italy is beautiful and should add to the appeal of the book.
Very enjoyable.

I love this book. I loved Saturday afternoons, with this book at my leisure getting carried away in a love story and almost lost it when it seemed all were lost for our lovers. So glad it did not end the way I thought it would. This book is really good and I would recommend it to all who loves this genre, it is worth all 5 stars I am giving it.

Good story, but...

I don't know how, as an author or even as an adult, the use of your vs. you're is not known. I liked this story, but there were so many errors that I was distracted. There were words that were completely made up, like "UNcomprehensible." How does that happen? It was a good story, but these errors should be rather embarrassing for the author!

I am absolutely beside myself for taking so long to read this book. I purchased it in April and devoured it in one day. If you haven't read any of Mia Sheridan's work, please read this book. It will give you everything you could possibly want in a story. The book is exquisitely written and will take you on quite a journey. It gave me characters that I found myself rooting for from page one and wanting to defend throughout.

While both Bree and Archer's stories are heartbreaking, the book is ultimately about the healing power of love. How having even just one person in your corner can change your world. I loved that they struggled both individually and used those struggles to be stronger for the other.

I found myself smiling as they found comfort in each other. When Bree opened up about what caused her to go on her "road trip" I wanted to jump in the book and hug her while she cried it out. And when Archer finally revealed the trauma in his past I wanted to jump back into my kindle, hunt down Victoria and karate chop her in the throat. That woman and the hate she bred made my skin crawl. Don't even get me started on Travis. I adored Bree's unrelenting defense of Archer and how she gave him the courage to find out who and what he wanted to be.

I also really enjoyed all of the secondary characters in this book. Bree's friendship with Norm and Maggie are what really made the the story all the more realistic. They provided some lightness to the heaviness that surrounded much of the story. Hard is hard, and everyone struggles in different ways. But the comfort, peace and love that they found in each other is beyond words.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good follow up...4.5 stars, October 15, 2014

This review is from: Just Say Yes (Just Say Yes Book 2) (Just Say Yes series) (Kindle Edition)
After reading The Reason, I dove right into Just Say Yes. I had to know what happened with Zoey and Andy. This book picks up right where the first one left off...not knowing what happened to Zoey.

My heart broke for both Andy and Zoey as they struggled to get back into the swing of things after her accident. There was so much going on in this book. And the steaminess...whew...those two had me fanning myself more than once. There was lots of sex in this installment of the book. That being said, it didn't override the actual story that was being told, only enhanced the connection between Zoey and Andy.

Just as things were on the up for them again, a blast from Andy's past swoops in and throws everyone for a loop. To see Andy suffer after he had been so strong really got to me. He had overcome so much and now to have to battle to get some answers....Again, we were left with a monster cliffhanger but a great setup for another book. I am so ready to see Zoey go to battle for her man and the happiness she can finally admit she wants and deserves.

This series just keeps getting better and better. As we learn more and more about my mysterious Hawke and Nicholas, it is clear by Bee is having such a hard time making a choice.

Hawke's actions in this book only endeared him to me even more. I feel that he is truly the one that Bee should be with, but only time will tell if she makes that decision. Oh and lets not forget, the steam factor was upped once again in this book. I can't wait to see what happens in this crazy triangle next!

After hearing great things about this book for months on end, I decided to jump in and see what all the fuss was about. WOW! I don't even know where to start with the goodness that is The Reason. The journey this book took me on was nothing short of spectacular.

This book had me hooked right from the heartbreaking prologue. It gripped me and sucked me in. Zoey hasn't had the most wonderful start to life, to say the least. When she is just a child, a neighbor intervenes and Zoey is put into foster care. At age 14, she is adopted by the James family. She is now in a loving home with a mother, father and three brothers. Flash forward ten years, Zoey is divorced, working full time and running her own business. She is feeling depressed about life in general when she meets the new mechanic at her fathers shop, Andy.

Andy is everything anyone could want in a man, tall, tattooed, muscular, kind, thoughtful and hard working with an accent. He has his own sad past that he still hasn't fully worked though, the tragic loss of both parents and his sister. He is dumbstruck when he first meets Zoey. There is an instant attraction and connection that neither one can deny. Andy wants to pursue what they feel but Zoey, fearing a repeat of her past mistakes, pushes him away, they can only be friends. However, when Zoey is threatened by her ex-husband, Rob, she turns to Andy. He is more than happy to be there for her. As they spend more and more time together, both of their walls start to come down and their bond only deepens.

Eventually, Andy and Zoey are finally ready to move forward and try a relationship with one another. There are some issues for them to work on both individually and together. I loved seeing them both happy and enjoying being themselves with one another. Just when things are going great for them, BAM! a freak accident occurs. Holy mother of cliffhangers....I found myself trying to flip for more pages that didn't exist in my kindle to see what happened!

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this book was the supporting cast. Zoey's brothers, parents, neighbors and best friend really sealed the deal on my love of this story. The interactions between Zoey and her family were very realistic and allowed me to get a better sense of her. I also really enjoyed the musical connection that both Andy and Zoey had. Music has such a power to heal and I think it truly helped both characters reveal their true selves to the other. Gah! There is so much more I could say about all the wonderful things this book is but I'll stop it here. I absolutely can not wait to get into the next book in the series, Just Say Yes.

Surrender (Surrender Trilogy Book 1)

Surrender (Surrender Trilogy Book 1)
Price: $2.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Good start to a series, October 12, 2014

This review is from: Surrender (Surrender Trilogy Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
This is the first book I have read by Jennifer Burrows but it won't be the last. This book was different from what I thought it was going to be. I enjoyed the plot, the pacing and the characters. They were both likeable and I found myself rooting for them from the moment I met them. I was gifted this book by the author for an honest review, so here goes...

When I first started reading, I thought to myself, oh great, another book where the bride-to-be catches her fiance in bed with another woman. That assumption was so completely wrong I'm shaking my head at myself. Flash forward a few weeks and there is Katherine aboard a train in Italy and in for the "honeymoon" of a lifetime. She meets a stranger, Tony, in her travels and is wary yet intrigued at the same time. When he starts showing up where she is, Katherine becomes a bit more suspicious but lets it go.

Initially, Tony is using her to find a way to escape the trouble that he has found himself in. The threat is from a mostly unknown source, the cartel, and Tony has no way of knowing who is a good guy and who isn't- he is basically on the run for his life. As they spend more time with each other, the connection and depth of their feelings for one another continues to grow. They're both a bit shocked at how much they've come to care for the other in such a short amount of time.

As Tony finds more clues, the truth starts to unravel. When Tony comes face to face with the man behind the whole mess he is in, he is stunned stupid. I was shocked when that little tidbit was revealed as well. When things came to a head, my heart was pounding and I was furiously flipping the pages to find out what happened next. My heart ached right along with Katherine's at the unknown. I enjoyed the growth of Katherine through the book. She really came into her own. The transition was very evident in the actions she took when she got back to the states.

All of that goodness being said, I did have a few issues with the book. I did enjoy the dual POV between Katherine and Tony (and they were both very well done- which sometimes isn't the case). At times the POV would go into third person as well and it would take me a second to figure out what was going on. There were also some spelling and grammatical errors. They weren't enough to change the meaning of what was trying to be said. The story still flowed smoothly despite those errors. The conclusion to the book was a great set up for the next installment of this series- I can't wait to get my hands on it. I look forward to reading what happens to Katherine now that she is back in NY.

I was actually sent an autographed copy from the author. First of, I loved being able to actually hold a book in my hands and I totally love the fact Jennifer Burrows signed it.
Surrender starts out with Katherine. Katherine is living in New York City and is in a happy relationship with the man that she is going to marry soon. One day she comes home, and her whole life changes. Her relationship is over.
Katherine decides to go on the honeymoon that her and her fiance planned. There she has a chance meeting with a handsome man that is dealing with his own things.
Tony is trying to hide in Italy due to the death of his family. He is trying to figure out why and what happened. Meeting Katherine on the train seemed like almost the perfect cover to investigate what happened.
This story develops from two people just having a chance meeting into suspense. The whole story was just amazing. From running from their lives, Tony and Katherine are developing something between them. I can't wait to read more. I hope Jennifer Burrows hurries with book 2 because I want to know what happens between Tony and Katherine.

Merged review:

I received a copy of Shattered by Jennifer Burrows for an honest review...
Surrender brought us the story of Kate and Tony. Kate gets jilted and decides to use her planned honeymoon to get away. She thought she would spend her time in Italy to get away and ends up meeting Tony. Tony is on the hunt to find out why his parents were murdered. Kate and Tony end up getting caught up in his quest and it turned out to be dangerous.
A year later... Kate and Tony are taking a chance on letting their relationship develop. Tony knows that his cousin is still looking for him and is attempting to keep him away from Kate after the last time he got a hold of her.
Shattered was a great followup to Surrender. The author gave a lot details on all the characters and where they had been or what they had been doing for the year after. The title was a great fit especially with the events that develop. This story combines both romance and suspense.
At first they surrendered to love, but will their love be shattered??? At this time, Jennifer Burrows is writing the third book to the Surrender trilogy.

Anxiety, tension, suspense and a bit of romance. This book was a lot to take in, but worth every minute of it. Though I would have appreciated a bit more on the romance side, I really enjoyed this book. It was full of suspense and intrigue and it certainly kept me on my toes until the very end!

Katherine was ready to start her happily ever after until she found her finance in their bed with another woman… Ok, so plans change. She has already paid for the Honeymoon, so she is going to take the trip. She is a strong and independent woman and she knows she will be just fine on this trip flying solo. Well… flying solo may be a bit of a falsehood when she spots him on the train. Suddenly he is everywhere she is and though part of it creeps her out, part of her is really intrigued. He’s hot, he’s kind and he has secrets.

Tony is not who he says he is, but he has a lot riding on people not finding out that he is alive until he can get out of Italy alive… and maybe figure out who destroyed his family. But what he isn’t expecting is anything more than to use Kate to help him in his grand mission. But webs are woven and things change and as fast as you can blink everything sifts. Everything changes.

The intrigue and suspense in this book was enough to keep me going and though I was not prepared in anyway for this book, it hit with tremendous force and cannot be missed. It was well written and has a lot going for it. I couldn’t out it down and I didn’t put it down. I fell in love with the characters, the local flavors. Sure there were moments when I was cringing and the big oh my moment was certainly a lot more than I was prepared for. Catch your breath and take deep breaths before opening this book. You have no idea what a crazy ride you are about to get on when you turn the page.

This was my 1st Jennifer Burrows book, but certainly wont be my last!!!
I loved this story, it was addicting a real page turner, couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next,
Katherine is left heart broken after finding her fiancé who she was due to marry soon cheating on her,
Katherine decided to go on what was supposed to be their honeymoon on her own to Italy, she is a strong feisty woman who is not afraid to travel on her own and is looking forward to seeing all the sights and tasting the Italian cuisine,on the train she meets an handsome Italian man "Tony" he with doubt the most drop dead gorgeous man she has ever saw,
When Tony starts showing up where she is (staying at same hotel at the same restruant etc)she things he's following her, but after getting talking she gets comfortable with him.....But things aren't what they seem.
Tony who's real name is Massimo is running from a cartel who killed all his family, he only only escaped by fluke, they wanted him dead to, so he runs, his father left him documents, Tony has to retrieve these but his father left them spread out across the country, Tony need to get around unnoticed in case the cartel find out he's alive. That's when he sees Katherine, and his way out, he could disguise himself as a tourist travelling with her, what he doesn't expect is to fall in love with her.
This is where the action starts!!
The cartel figure out he is alive and have seen him with Katerine so now she is in danger to, She finds out his real identity, he tells her everything about his family's olive oil business and why they killed, and why he has got to run.
They have the fight of their lives ahead of them.
Brilliant book full of action, Romance and suspense.
Highly recommend!!!

4.5 SUSPENSEFUL STARS!

I want to start out by saying that I am going to keep this review as spoiler free as possible.

This was a really good book and a bit of change from my normal smut. This book does have romance but it is not the main focus of the book like most romance novels. This book has romance, steam, mystery, betrayal, deception, suspense, twists, turns, *gasp* worthy moments, and will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end and leave you wanting more. I will say that I didn't figure out the big *gasp* moment early on and was left guessing most of the book until I started to put everything together.

This is the story of Tony and Katherine. Katherine walks in on her fiancé having sex with another woman. She is devastated. After she throws him out, she decides a trip is in order. What is supposed to be her honeymoon, she decides to go on the trip alone. On her trip to Italy, she meet Tony. As these two spend time together and become closer sharing the experience together, something is after them and closing in fast. Tony is a man with secrets and on the run. Will Tony's secrets catch up to him and Kate? Will Tony make it out of the country? Will Tony and Katherine be able to find love?

I loved both Katherine and Tony. I loved how strong and resilient Katherine and Tony both were after everything that happened to them though very different circumstances. I loved them together. They had chemistry like no other and the tension was thick at times between them.

I highly recommend this book.
This book reminds me so much of an action movie unfolding!

The story started out as a journey of self exploration for Kate. She discovered her fiancé cheating on her and decided to take their honeymoon trip alone to attempt to move past the betrayal and huge change in her life. She meets Tony in Italy, wary of him at first, but quickly falls for him. The reader also gets Tony's point of view and we realize he has targeted Kate in order to travel with her. He is running from the Italian mob and thinks if he travels with an American woman, he'll be less noticeable. Trouble is, they are both now targets. The torture scenes are hard to take. The romance is very erotic and the Italian setting provides a lot of romance. Amongst the story lines, there are wonderful descriptions of the Italian countryside, artwork, architecture and the food. Kate is a food critic, so each meal is described to the reader in mouthwatering detail.

The story has a fast pace. The suspense keeps the reader on their toes. The ending, however, was a bit abrupt. Everything is described in detail. Every scene, every meal, every feeling Kate and Tony have is described in detail. The end, inexplicably, skips over the remainder of the rescue and Kate's recovery and return. The book ends in an HEA, but whether the threat is over or not is still unanswered. The end did not match the pace and detail of the rest of the book. With all that being said, I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes romantic suspense. I definitely cannot wait to read the second book in this series.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Where is my heart? I wondered after reading this if it could be mended with all the suspense it went through.
This was truly a well written, eventful, suspenseful story with some romance mixed in.
You know a book is going to be great when it starts off with a little drama.

Katherine a woman in love and also getting married to the love of her life goes home early one day. What she found had her shocked and feeling helpless. Katherine decided to go on her honeymoon 'Alone' to try to get over the events that just happened. What she found in Italy was not only the beautiful scenery, she also met the hot as hell Tony.

Tony is a man on the run. After his life changes and his family destroyed, Tony is on the hunt for the people that changed his life forever. Trying to get out of Italy he sees his opportunity to leave and it was called” Katherine”. Tony goes on a scavenger hunt to find clues left by his father to help him get to freedom.

Jennifer has a great descriptive way of writing. With each scene I felt like I was in Italy, experiencing the structures, food and wine. Can I say, that she convinced me to add it to my places to visit. Let me tell you, when the actions started it was like waiting a great movie unfold. This is a story you would not want to miss and I cannot wait to continue this story with Katherine and Tony.

Surrender by Jennifer Burrows
3 out of 5 Stars

Have you ever read a book that had a very intriguing storyline but for some reason you can't ever forget your reading a book? That's how Surrender was for me. It starts out with a woman in love getting ready for her wedding and her honeymoon and ends with the Italian cartel and a daring adventure through Italy with a dark and handsome Italian heir who sets her world on fire and makes her question her doubts and fears.

I really wanted to know how it ended but it felt like I would never get there because I couldn't relax and let the book world take over. I think Burrows has come up with an unpolished gem, the third person narrative just keeps the reader at a distance from the characters and doesn't allow you to truly go to the world she's created. The characters are fairly well developed and the story speed works, but there are parts, especially between the agents working the case, that are very choppy and formulaic feeling. The types of dialogue you would expect to hear on some cop show but don't really "work" to keep the realism alive.

I had trouble rating Burrows work because I truly enjoyed the concept and plot, I just couldn't sink in and enjoy the read.
