Pete Has Risen from the Grave: Pete, Drinker of Blood, Book 2

Rate this book
Book two in the Pete, Drinker of Blood series!

Being a vampire in Hollywood should mean livin' it up. Pete killed the bad guy, got the girl, and didn’t even lose his job in the process - but it's never that easy, is it? Trouble soon rolls into town in the shape of Angie's deadbeat dad, on the run from a gang who practice the basest form of the dark arts.

Now, Pete not only has to meet the dad and fight off a bunch of greasy New York sorcerers, there’s also a new blood-drinker in town, and he’s got his sights - and fangs - set on Angie. Looks like somebody's gonna find themselves on the wrong side of her vampire boyfriend.

Join Pete as he strives to overcome evil and answer the How does a guy live a normal life when he’s not quite dead?

If you dig Mercy Thompson, Harry Dresden, or Sandman Slim and you’re looking for a fun new urban fantasy series, check out Pete as he struggles to survive undeath on the streets of Hollywood! Titles include Pete, Drinker of Blood, Doorchick of Darkness, Pete Has Risen From the Grave, Taste the Blood of Pete, The Room-Temperature Warrior, and more coming soon!

From the I’m a big fan of classic bloodsucking vampires including B-movie vampires, but I also enjoy humorous looks at what it would be like to be an "everyday" vampire, like in What We Do in the Shadows. How does a vampire without a big spooky castle just get through the day - uh, night? That's what l like to explore in the Pete books. After working in a video store for years and then running my own video store for more years, I've seen thousands of B-movies - and written reviews for many of them, which led to my review collection Unsafe on Any Screen. Working in filmmaking in both the Hollywood and indie worlds influenced my novel Squirrel Eyes. I've met a lot of vampires during all of this, and it got me thinking about what it would be like to be an average guy who just happened to be a vampire.

In Pete Has Risen from the Grave, the stakes (ahem) are higher for Pete and his human girlfriend, Angie, the action is crazier, and the vampires face some serious trouble from sinister magic-users!

Pete Has Risen From The Grave is not exactly a horror novel it made me laugh more than scare me so I would classify it as a comedy. I enjoyed the group of ragtag characters and their sarcastic banter with one another. The story is nicely written but can be a little confusing at times but very easy to pick back up. Benjamin Allen did an amazing job as narrator his comedic timing was perfect and his voices really gave the story that extra push. I received this book for free at my request. This is my honest unbiased review that I am voluntarily leaving of my own volition.

I LOVE THE KNACK!!!! 💘

And I now love Scott Phillips. Read the first 2 Pete books and you will find out why.
If you are a fan of Christopher Moore (or even if you're not) you will understand how
vampires can warm your 💓 and make you laugh like a lunatic. Pete is someone I would
just fall into a friendship with..... and I'm depressed that he is not real. Read the books,
you will only be sorry when they end! 🍩🍔🐐📀🎶🎸

Format: audiobook
Narrator: Benjamin Allen

Pete the not so typical vampire has loads to deal with in this book, his relationship seems to be going well but can it survive another vampire being interested in Angie and more importantly can they survive her father and the trouble he brings to their door?
Another fun, humorous instalment, I can wait to get stuck in to the next book.

Again the narrator does a great job at portraying the characters quirkiness.

Fun read

This is an urban fantasy that’s a fun read. Fast paced, filled with action with a hefty dose of the macabre.

Again, fun and mindless. I liked the development of the fictional world. I’m still not sure about the word ‘noggin’ being used so frequently! I am finding a few attitudes a little dated, but this served its purpose to pass through time. I’ll read more but not immediately ☺️

Fun adventure

Fun read with entertaining characters. It's nice to have a vampire book where they aren't all slick sex god types haha.

So when is a bowling ball NOT a bowling ball? When is “greasy magic” NOT sex magic? And what do you know about Led Zeppelin? Pete, that lovable schlub of a goat-blood-sucking vampire, is back in this second book in the series (do yourself a favor and check out Pete, Drinker of Blood, book #1). Also returning are his hot bartender girlfriend, the is-she-or-isn’t-she-gay muscular bouncer at the EmoGlobin vampire-wanna-be club, two flouncy male vampires with more velvet pants than Liberace, and the now-empty-but-still-scary home of Pete’s sire (deceased).
This laugh-out-loud story contains an astonishing number of references to seventies-era culture including music. The author is a veritable font of names of bands, members of bands, and so much info about bands there isn’t room here to write it all down! I had no idea how much I didn’t know about the seventies until I read this book.
Pete’s neighborhood and lifestyle is threatened when the queen of a donut empire back east sends her henchmen (wielding that greasy magic) to retrieve the not-bowling-ball from Pete’s girlfriend’s petty-criminal father, whose unexpected arrival drags them all into the thickening plot. Summoned monsters (Cthulhu reference!), the power of our own urine, and magic-spiced blood sampled by a vampire all add up to an adventure you don’t want to miss. The subplot of the recurring scatological difficulties of a minor character had me repeatedly snorting milk out of my nose.
Don’t wait! Kindle and Nook copies are available now. Also, buy the paperback when it comes out to support this fantastic author. (Scott S. Phillips, "Pete has Risen From the Grave")

Doughnuts. Why did it have to be doughnuts?
Trouble rides into Pete's world from the Far East - New York City. Angie's dad is on the loose, bringing the wrath of the Doughnut Queen and her greasy magic wielding minions in his wake. Normally, Pete can refuse doughnuts. They aren't on his diet, after all. But this is an offer he can't refuse - the safety of his lady and his friends.
Also his sire, Fitzgerald has left him a parting gift and it's a doozie.
Will Pete rise to become the true Lord of Los Angeles, or at least Hollywood?
