The Truth That Lies Between: A Novel
Three adventurous teenagers, yearning for manhood. Two mysterious disappearances. One Mississippi farm at the center of it all.
When he’s not busy trying to win over the girl of his dreams, Case Reynolds fishes, camps, and races three-wheelers on a local farm with his best friends, the carefree Jack Masterson and brilliant Jet Townsend. But Case’s life changes forever when he finds the murdered remains of a local drifter in a barn, the beloved farm comes up for sale, and Jack’s abusive stepfather, Stone, disappears without a trace.
The evidence points to all three events being connected. And when the boys discover that not only are they prime suspects in the drifter’s death, but the future of the farm depends on exposing the truth, they set out to find Stone and catch the killer on their own.
Their secret quest takes them on a journey of danger and self-discovery that they never could have imagined. Because Stone had dark secrets, killers will kill again, and the truth isn’t always what it seems, even between best friends.
Can Case and his friends execute their plan to bring justice to those who deserve it and find a bit of redemption for Stone - and themselves - in the process?

He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Mississippi, then earned board certifications in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics as well as a specialist certification in wound care.
He practices medicine in northeast Mississippi, where he lives with his wife and three children.
When he’s not treating patients or writing, he can often be found on the sideline with the local high school football team, roaming the woods of the Buttahatchie River bottom, or tossing batting practice to his kids. The Truth That Lies Between is his first novel.

I really enjoyed this book. It takes place in small town Mississippi and is very realistic. It keeps you guessing through all of it’s twists and turns all the way to the end. I can’t wait to read the next book by this author.

The Truth That Lies Between is a captivating mystery story of three teenage boys who join together for a common purpose. I loved this southern mystery and found it interesting and compelling, capturing my interest from the start and keeping me on the edge of my seat until the end. The story has realistic characters and is fast-paced and well written, with murder, disappearances, secrets, danger, and twists and turns.
I cannot wait to read more books by this author.

Wow, this book. This book was just… so ridiculously good that I had to force myself to stop reading last night so I could sleep (and possibly also because my husband was complaining about my side table lamp still on past midnight). McComb is a master story-teller and The Truth That Lies Between held my attention right from the first chapter.
I loved Jet, Case and Jack. Their unwavering loyalty to one another was heart-warming and I commend the author for creating such realistic and relatable characters. I felt the plot was well-paced with the surprise twists and turns cleverly written. The suspense was constant, and I appreciated how information was carefully meted out throughout the novel. I actually also quite liked how McComb framed the majority of the novel like a memory – it gave the main plot a clear beginning and end and allowed for some leeway to tie up any loose ends. Overall, a fantastic read and definitely recommended. I will be looking for more from this author!

Awesome read. I need to apologise to my family for being so tired, I could not put this book down. I was immersed in their lives, holding my breath when they held theirs and exhaling with them when danger had passed. Unlike other reviewers I don’t live in Mississippi but in the UK, however I could still totally relate to the characters. Totally recommend this book.

I must confess before I commence this review that I personally know the author. I did not realize this until I had already started reading the book. It never occurred to me that W.D. McComb was Dwight McComb, a young man I had worked with years before. Before he decided he was more interested in a medical career than simply being a plant engineer. I guess he decided somewhere along the way that maybe being an author gave rise upon a career as a doctor? This book was given to me by a friend as a Christmas gift and one night as I rifled through it I noticed that the friend had gone to the trouble of getting Dwight to sign it for me. It made it all so much more special!
This was a fast moving story that I could connect to from my own youth. Replace the three-wheelers with motorcycles and I was right there. All the things he referenced as a 14 year old were things that I did, as well (spoiler alert - although I never tripped over a dead body that I know of).
I thought it was a very good first effort and I truly look forward to reading his future novels. Great job Dwight!

Excellent read!
This well written book captures your attention on the front page and keeps your attention to the very end! Being a native Mississippian, the characters and the terrain are easy to relate to. The author does an excellent job weaving in and out of the complex relationships amongst the characters. Would highly recommend!

Prepare to be captivated! "This book is an absolute masterpiece that will keep you glued to its pages. With every twist and turn, just when you think you have it all figured out, the author, McComb, throws in another curveball that will leave you breathless. The writing is nothing short of exceptional, painting vivid scenes and bringing each character to life in a way that will immerse you completely. McComb's ability to seamlessly weave multiple separate situations into one cohesive and compelling narrative is truly commendable. This is a must-read for any lover of suspenseful and beautifully crafted novels. I can't praise it enough!"

This is definitely a solid book. But I think I would have enjoyed the story more if the pacing wasn't so monotone. It felt like the whole book was just hitting plot points one after another, with no respite or development in between. Despite that, it has an interesting premise, believable characters, and an atmosphere that remains suspenseful until the very last page.

I quite enjoyed this book. Everything felt so real. I enjoyed the twists and turned and kept me on my toes until the very end.

Such a captivating read! I found myself just not being able to put the book down. It was thrilling and I could not ever figure out what was coming next. Such a good book!!

i love every single part of this book. i rated it 4 because the ending was slightly more underwhelming than i assumed but not necessarily in a bad way
