Chapter 1

Louis was the son of Anthony and Louise Zamperini, Italian immigrants. He was one of those kids who got into everything. He stole from everyone, but could always talk his way out of scrapes. The only thing that scared him was flying. He once flew in an airplane and was so frightened by the altitude and speed that he swore he would never have anything to do with them again.

Louis was the exact opposite of his big brother Pete, who was polite, hard-working, tall and handsome. Louis, their parents and their two little sisters idolized Pete. Louis, meanwhile, was puny and bullied. One event changed Louis entire attitude when he was a teen. He saw how eugenics, the practice of improving the quality of human genetics, almost left one neighborhood boy locked up in an institution and sterilized. Louis knew he fit the profile of the kids the eugenicists were trying to eradicate and fought to turn himself around to avoid the fate the other boy nearly faced. For this reason, he began giving away all he stole and doing random acts of kindness for neighbors and his family.

Unbroken is the best historicle book I have ever read. Even the preface was good. I loved how descriptive ( but not to descriptive) the author was. I love the intriguing words the author used like effervescent, circumnavigation, corralled and many more. I like that it included very many details on what was currently happening with Louie Zamperini, the main charecter. it may not seem interesting at first, but if you just read it you will get hooked and won't be able to resist. I recommend reading the book when you are at least 12 or 13 because it gets very violent and grusome in the middle of the book due to WW2, especialy since his plain, the green hornet, crashes in the ocean and his raft lands on a japenies prisoner camp island.

An excellent book on a brave survivor of WWII.
Laura Hillenbrand's writing technique is excellent.
Apart from the story itself, I stood back in wonder at her concise paragraphs. Not a wasted word.

Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand is a long novel about Louis Zamperini, the son of Italian immigrants, who rose from a mischievous childhood to become an Olympic runner. The story takes the reader from Louis’ childhood, through college, and then details his experiences as a bombardier in WWII who is captured by the Japanese and subjected to cruel torture by a sadistic prison camp commander. It then ends with Louis, after his release from the POW camp, wanting revenge against the sadist, having a troubled marriage, and then redeeming himself and forgiving his abuser.
The novel, unlike the movie adapted from it, is unevenly written, with reams of historical and technical details disrupting the story’s flow, and uneven treatment of certain facets of the main character’s life.
Summary of Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand by Instaread is a detailed analysis of the novel, covering its main themes and characters, as well as discussing its flaws. This is an excellent resource for previewing new books before making the final decision to buy them.

The gripping true story of Luis Zamperini , an Olympic athlete who survived World War Two. Japanese prisoner- of - war camps are shown in all their horror . This is a remarkable story of resilience , survival , mateship and love. My father fought in the Navy in WW 2 , and he never talked of his experiences. I am so glad I've read this book. It has shed light on his , and all the other veteran's experiences.

Read the book, rather than the 30 minute instaread summary.
Excellent book, despite the choppy writing style at the beginning of the novel.
Amazing story of survival against ridiculous odds.

Very good. I enjoyed the movie but the book is even better. I read the whole book, not the summary.
