Just Like That

Rate this book
Seven months after forty-one year old Alexandra Bond is devastated by the sudden death of her husband, the last thing she expected was to “accidentally” meet Jesse Cooper, a lawyer turned successful children’s book author. When the thirty-five year old “hunk” asks her out, she is more than pleased, hoping her life is finally going to get back on track. Alex is quickly taken by his brutal honesty and self-assurance. However, during their first date, Alex finds she is standing at a crossroads, not sure how to react when Jesse introduces her to his sexual fantasies and games. Is he more than she bargained for or the man of her dreams? A quirky cast of characters, plot twists, and a surprise ending will have you utterly engrossed, likely laughing, and even crying.

Just Like That is promoted as a funny, erotic romance, and it certainly is! I loved the banter between widow Alexandra and younger author Jesse. They both have a smart mouth and Jesse also has a dominant streak. There is bondage and domination in this book, but it is so much better written and between knowledgeable and consenting adults. There is no abuse in this book and no sadism or masochism. Alex is recovering from the death of her husband of 20 years, preparing herself to re-enter the dating world at 41. At her mother's birthday party, she catches a glimpse of Jesse, the son of her mother's friends. She decides to take a chance and places herself in his path, leading to a date with more than dinner. The twist at the end of the book had me in stitches.

I am a huge fan of Fifty Shades (entire trilogy) and the many many similar books. I have probably read about 300 of them since reading E.L James. This book is quite a lot different in that it is really well-written. It is truly clever, very witty, far more realistic than the billionaire byline and geared toward the 30-somethings who don't necessarily want to feel like they are interrupting their children's sexual escapades. This could have been me in this story and I related to that. As well, it was far more mature and meeting the various friends of the characters provided the story great depth. It felt more like real life than the world of billionaires and luxury airplanes (though I do like those too).

I hope that Mr. Cohen will continue with the story. I feel like the story of Jesse and Alexandra is not over. I would like to see how this plays out. I hope they are happy together. I hope there is no more tragedy for her. I hope she moves forward with all of her hopes and dreams and does not sink into monotony. I can relate to all of that, and I guess I hope for the same for myself which makes the story all the more appealing.

I highly recommend the book. It will not provide a detailed and edgy erotic, almost to the point of frightening, story like Fifty Shades or the similar books. It is great for other reasons.

This is the first book I've read by EJ Cohen and I fell in love with the characters. Alex deciding to get back in the dating game after she is widowed when her husband dies. Alex is 41,owns a bakery and no longer wants to be alone....enter Jesse who's 35 and a hot, sexy author. Their relationship is very sexual and Alex finds herself shown the delights and pleasures of light BDSM. Jesse loves to show Alex just what he can do to her body,it's hot, panty melting sex.
Jesse has a circle of friends that he introduces Alex to who welcome her warmly. A party is interrupted when an ex girlfriend makes an appearance causing a scene, will she wreck the new relationship Alex has with Jesse? (I'm not going to spoil the story.) I really like the family members who each have their own secrets or problems that Alex gets confronted with and I'm sure there are going to be a few more shocks in the sequel.
I would highly recommend this book it's sexy, hot and funny.
The witty banter is rather funny and brings a smile.
Congratulations on an amazing debut book. Look forward to the next book.

I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Wow!! This was an amazing book. I just couldn't put it down. This is my first book by this author and I have truly found another one to follow.

Alexandra is a widow and is ready to start dating again, so she sets out to get what she wants. She meets Jesse and they are hot for one another. She is sassy and he likes to push her buttons. There are some laugh out loud moments, moments that you will want to cry and some hot and steamy moments that will have you trying breathe slower. I really enjoyed this book and can not wait for more from this author.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book and I was pleasantly surprised. My mind couldn’t handle another dark erotica right now so I was glad the author reached out to promote this book to me. This was the first time I read this author. It was both funny and filled with the kink I love. I laughed until I cried in some parts and cried tears of joy in others. The widow Alex and young, hot author Jesse are perfectly matched. The fun they bring to their relationship should be the goal of all couples. I thought there would be bumps in the road for them but again, pleasantly surprised. The supporting characters were great also. This book proves, it’s never too late to fall in love (again).
I look forward to reading more books.

I recently found this author and he did not disappoint! These characters blew me away. I loved this book. It had so many twists and turns I didn't know where the story would go. Jesse and Alex are amazing together and I really hope there is a second book as well. :) I'm so glad I found this author. He draws his readers in from start to finish. I could not put this book down. It's a must buy. Literal finished this book in one day. Whew. The characters had such a funny banter - which worked so well with this story. I enjoyed their chemistry and their story. While I enjoyed Just Like That and would definitely read other books by E.J. Cohen. I did not find Alex to be a character that I connected with. I thought she was selfish and expected far too much from Jesse too quickly. I found her character to be some what childish, whiny, and annoying. I did find Jesse to be enjoyable though, he was worth putting up with the drama queen that I found Alex to be. 3.5 Stars

This was an enjoyable read. I would definitely read more by EJ in the future. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because for me the beginning it was hard for me to get into the book. there was some good banter but nothing that really caught my attention. That by no means it was not well written or good in any way because it was but this was one that just didnt capture me right from the start. EJ captured the relationship between an older woman and younger man.

Alex is a widow who recently starts dating again. When she see's Jesse at a birthday party for her mom she must know who he is. Shes able to get her mother to get him back to the house and when he arrives he asks her out to dinner. Within the first date he was telling her to take her panties off while still at the restaurant during dinner. (Who doesnt love that)

Jesse is a younger guy who knows exactly what he wants and how he wants it but Alex is also willing to explore and has a voice herself. There chemistry in the bedroom (and out) Is off the charts.

But Jesse is keeping something from Alex, will she be able to figure it out? Is what hes hiding going to be the end of him or can she over see what it is? I was not to fond of the ending of this book. It leaves you kind of hanging.. what happens next is there another book? after that ending I would hope there is going to be and if there is I want to read it and see what could be next for Alex and Jesse

I adored this story and these two characters!
As a 40 something unattached woman there was soooo much of this book I related to.

Alex is a woman who seems to know her worth, confident in most things until sudden widowhood at 41 causes a few cracks in her foundation.
She pulls out of her melancholy fog, gets herself in a better headspace with support from friends & family. She decides to get back into dating and experiences a few frogs & false starts.
She goes out of her way to arrange a meeting with Jesse, a 35 yr old son of her mom's neighbor & stakes her claim from the get go.
Love her sassy banter with Jesse, I love couples who laugh together & are playful.

Jesse is a bit of an origami puzzle box. I liked his style of D/s, seemed pretty organic to him, nothing forced. He gives her what she never saw coming, didn't realize she wanted yet she does the same for him.
She's a bit of a wild child and he's a bit starchy & in his own head. She gives him a lift & he provides a safe place for her to land.
The cast of friends & family are wonderful and there are a few unforseen twists in their whirlwind romance :-)
I am excited to learn a sequel is coming soon!
Highly recommend this book!

I want to give E.J. Cohen my most honest review of "Just Like That"...at first reading I found it a little hard to stay tuned in but as I kept reading I then understood how different this Author's book was and I was loving it. It made me stop and think several times of what my life would be like if this happened to me. A great appreciation for his writing then formed. There is so much more than just erotic sex wrapped up in this book, though Jesse and Alexandra have a very hot and interesting sex life going on which only added to my curiosity of where this story was heading. I love the way their day to day life is written out with twists and turns. It's down to earth not over the top fantasy but sexy, sensual, erotic, great humor and easy to relate to..."Just Like That" you have me hooked! I look forward to reading more about Jesse and Alex. I hope it happens soon! Excellent read!

This is a very sexy read. EJ Cohen brings his characters to life. This is more then a older woman younger guy story. At some point you are not even aware of the age difference.
Alex is a widow who longs to get back in the game.. And there is Jesse who has admired Alex from afar. Read about their fast, sexy relationship. Both are stubborn , hard headed people which leads to very humorous moments. At moments you will want to hug the characters. To laugh right along with them. And you even at times want to reach inside the book and "slap" some people.
So if you like to read a book that will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions then this is the book for you. Bravo Mr. Cohen!!!! Can't wait till the sequel!!!

I recommend "Just Like That" for those who like a spicy read.along with a laugh or two!!!

This was my first EJ Cohen book, and I certainly hope that this will not be my last. Just Like That was a book that captured me from the beginning and bewitched me until the end. With strong, passionate, and desirable characters, I say good luck putting this book down!

Alexandra is a a smart and sassy widow looking to start the dating world again. Jesse is a self-assured writer with a dominate force. Together they create one of greatest erotic stories I've read in a long time.

Cohen had me laughing at the lively banter and playful pranks between Alex and Jesse, had me crying and feeling the sadness from Alex when she was feeling low, and most importantly I was feeling every ounce of emotion Alex and Jesse were when they came together. And the bondage scenes? Sexy and steamy!

You will not be disappointed with Just Like That! EJ Cohen has made me a fan and I want more!!!

E.J. Cohen, I LOVED your book! Beautifully written. Jesse and Alex are one amazing couple. Every sexual scene is HOT with a mix of bdsm. She is so sassy and they both love to prank! I could so relate to her, she's 41, I am as well. Alex loves shopping & so do I. I have a maid's costume... she wore one as well. Mr. Cohen... are you watching me?... because I don't own a bakery but I do bake a lot! ;) Needless to say, this book has humor to the point my husband caught me laughing a few times. Very erotic at times where again, my husband saw a difference in my reading! ;) I am so telling my friends of this book, A MUST READ!!! I sure hope this story continues to a second book??? (hint! hint! Mr. Cohen) PS: This will be on my HOT & SASSY book shelf at home.

Just Like That is EJ's debut book. It was quite the read. Divorcee Alexandria has had a tough go of it since her husband's passing. She has lived her life with anger and depression until her mother's party where it "happens" upon a young, hot as hell walking piece of yumminess, Jesse.

Just Like That is a really great read. It's fast paced with characters over the age of 30 we rarely get in erotica, which is 90% of my reading. Jesse and Alex are quite the duo with their humor and their hot passion for each other.

Interested in a fast paced erotic comedy Just Like That is the book for you.

What can i say about this book EJ Cohen did a wonderful job putting a 41 year old with a 35 year old man together but what does Jess have hiding from her and does Alex have the smarts to figure it out. There was a lot of funny parts in this book. I love how Alex could dish out and become strong after the death of her husband and to come out of her shell. She had some moments that had me struggling like come on girl you can figure out what is going on. I got this for an honest review so here it is Loved the book but hope that book two will show some insight on what happen between some of the characters and Jesse.

I enjoyed this book!
In the beginning I found it hard to stay in the story however, it did pick up and I enjoyed reading Just Like That.

Alex a recent widow who decides to start dating again sometimes acted childish than her 41years meets Jesse a younger handsome successful man.

Jesse is a man that knows exactly what he wants in and out of the bedroom making you go all dreamy eyed.

Together they made me laugh, cringe at her childish actions, and oh the explosive hot sex scenes light up the pages.

I look forward to more from this author.

I enjoyed the story line of Alex and Jesse. They are two spunky characters that have fallen in love. Alex an older widow and Jesse a younger author. The banter between the two is witty and sweet. Jesse seems to be hiding a past that he doesn't want revealed to Alex and hopefully we will find out his past in the next book.
I gave the book 4 stars only because the book was hard for me to get into. The ending was enticing and now I need more answers to this story. I am looking forward to reading more from Mr. Cohen.

Great book

This book is really well written. I love the banter between Alex and Jesse. It is a wonderful story of love and starting over after tragedy. It had me laughing and always wondering what was coming next. There were a couple of locations in the story where time had elapsed, but it was only shown by the start of a new paragraph as opposed to something to distinguish it was a little bit of a time lapse. I will definitely read more books by this author.

There are so many ways to view relationships between people. The view through the eyes of Mr. Cohen is fun, beautiful, kind, gentle and infinitely more romantic than one might think, as it is written by a male rather than female author. It is sensual and sexual, edgy and sharp, witty and smart. It is highly recommended, worth every penny and would make for a brilliant movie. Read...
