Welcome to Paradise Valley, where the locals thrive on the rural landscape, the quirky Oregonian living, and the history of the lesbian commune that founded it.
Mixing small-town attitudes with lesbian dating? Sounds like another day in Paradise.
Life as a small-town housewife is usually what Sally Greenhill needs. With four kids and a busy wife to keep her preoccupied, she’s got more than enough to do from sunrise to sunset - at all times of year.
But as Deputy Candace Greenhill becomes bogged down in an arsonist investigation, Sally begins to suspect that the ring of flaming rebels might be closer than any of them had foreseen.
With Halloween right around the corner, both Sally and Candace are too busy to keep an eye on the precocious son with an eye for adventure...and trouble.
Hildred Billings is a Japanese and Religious Studies graduate who has spent her entire life knowing she would write for a living someday. She has lived in Japan multiple times in multiple locations, from the heights of the Japanese alps to the hectic Tokyo suburbs, with a life in Shikoku somewhere in there too.
Currently, Hildred lives in Oregon with her partner and two cats. When she's not commandeering the corner of the neighborhood coffee shop on hours on end (it's okay, she's on a first-name basis with the baristas) she's probably parked on the couch watching Bob's Burgers or screaming at a Zelda game. (Seriously, Link, why don't you move right?)
This is a true to life story of raising children and still finding time for each other. Candace goes of to work and Sally deals with the children all day. You can hear how Sally struggles most days but she still wouldn’t change her life. Candace is working on trying to crack the barn fire cases. I am really enjoying this series. The stories are about life and our ongoing ups and downs
Another great installment in Hildred Billings' "A Year in Paradise" series, this time featuring an older lesbian couple, Candace and Sally, and their 4 children. The firebugs are still torching buildings in Paradise and Candace is still putting together the pieces of the arson puzzle when their son reveals a huge clue. This is a series that belongs on all lesfic fans must read list!
A good kid, an aware mom, and a deputy solve a mystery!
A short read. Of the ten books in this series I think I like this one best. I’ve always been intrigued by the sheriff’s deputy, her wife, and their house full of kids. This book gets to the bottom of the arsonist problem from the September book and addresses the stresses of rowdy kids. The deputy’s wife is a worn to a frazzle stay at home mom who hand-makes her kids Halloween costumes - bless the loving women who want to do that - I’m not one of them! But might have liked to be married to one.
This was a refreshing story. Yes it centered on family members but the main characters were the central theme. 2 women raising a family, while one worked a challenging job and the other was the stay at home mom was real like real life. Great story and will be reading it ago.
Sally and Candace had four kids and hectic and frenzied life. Candace is the town deputy and trying to solve the arson fires in the area. Sally is a stay at home mom with a one-year old strapped to her chest. A fun story about family, making life and work balance & keeping the family and town safe. Recommend Series.
This is a good, entertaining story, with interesting characters & very enjoyable & easy to read, that was unfortunately diminished by an unsatisfying & abrupt ending that seemed more incomplete than "in conclusion".
Though not achieving all I feel it could've been, this still was a worthy, enjoyable read.
