Comprised of poems hand chosen by the author, The Many Personalities of Me tells a story of struggle, triumph, heartache, and above all perseverance. Stories and poems based on first hand experience from my every day life living with mental illness.
I purchased this to help out the author in her sales because that's what writers do, we help each other out. This collection of poems is a gold mine of viscerally honest wisdom regarding mental illness and how one can emerge the victor if one will just keep their head up. Being a survivor of hazing and also of suicide, this collection hit hard and deep for me. The tension throughout was exceptional as was the author's command of language and I enjoy every minute, word, and page of this. Great job.
Loved it! Each poem tells a story and expresses deep and raw feelings. The book paints a picture for the reader of each experience, feelings and emotions.
This is pure poetry, at its most raw, honest truth
My friend Bailey writes poems about her life, her struggles, her truth. Very often, these poems are so heartbreakingly sad, but they never lie—never sugarcoat anything, never pretend this isn’t what she was thinking exactly at the time she wrote them. These poems are her. There is no artifice here. She writes with such a bold, unflinching honesty that you feel as if you’re not only staring directly in her soul but she’s looking right into yours. As someone who has struggled with a lot of the same feelings of loneliness, isolation, worthlessness, self-loathing, anxiety, depression, inner turmoil and loss, her words of her journey into those most private but most real corners of that particular (and for each sufferer uniquely their own) hell, I felt a resonance with these poems that the best poets incite. Her struggles are so real, so much her own, yet I see my own. Her words could very well be my own in a lot of these poems—and experiences. While I have not gone through exactly everything described here, I have gone through a great deal of similar feelings and emotional experience, and for anyone who has ever struggled with themselves, their mental health, their lives, feelings or even with just a feeling of utter uncertainty in this world about who they are or where they fit in, these are relateable. Beyond the perfect turns of phrase, beyond the vivid and immersive descriptions here, there is empathy so strong for anyone who has been here. And we’re very lucky to have someone like Bailey around to make us feel a little less alone because she’s been there and came back to talk about it. I more than encourage everyone to read these poems. To feel these words. To maybe look through her eyes and see what she sees. This is by far the best book of poetry this year—and one of the best from any year.
“The real pandemic is loneliness. In an era of technology, I have never felt so alone.”
Bailey Gee shares a raw, unfiltered, compelling take on the pain of growing up in the 21st century. This quick read offers a window into what it’s like to go through the relatable traumas of adolescence and young adulthood - of connection and isolation, of identity, of boys who aren’t there or who won’t take no for an answer - while the world outside is more unstable and uncertain than ever.
Gee’s verse and rhythms remind me, in the best way, of a Millennial Chuck Palahniuk or Henry Rollins, unafraid to confront uncomfortable truths and personal pain, but with a voice that makes the struggle compelling and relatable.
I wasn't sure what to make of this collection at first. The title was interesting and I appreciate the author, but I just wasn't sure. As I read it, each set of emotions mentioned in the pages felt overwhelming - a sign of effective poetry. And the imagery here was stunning. The poems each had a rhythm that carries you from one line to the next effortlessly. Honestly I'm glad I sat down and took my time with this one. It is a great insightful collection to what the author was going through in specific moments.
What can I say about this book? I am speechless! This book is a collection of poetry written to express the feelings most of us keep bottled up inside. I gasped at one of the reads, which was my favorite, "Cross My Heart". These lines of poetry from one story to the next bring up a lot of emotion to the point I cried. I can relate to almost all the pieces and I hope others who read it will be able to have the strength to put their words and emotions down and release the person they have always wanted to be. Great Job!
I purchased this book because of the amazing reviews on Amazon and oh boy, they were all right. This book is fantastic you can really feel all the emotion behind each poem. it's based on true life experiences and feelings Written from the heart. The emotion seeps through the pages! Deep down everyone has felt these ways in some way or another so you'll be able to relate to this book on a personal level. I highly recommend this wonderful book
Wow, where do I begin. The very fact that the author shared such intimate thoughts surrounding her own experience with mental illness is strength all by itself. Not to mention the struggle, anger, grief, sadness, triumph, and accomplishment could be felt in every single word printed. It felt I was going through with her. I loved, LOVED this book of poetry I highly recommend it! Great job!
A great poetry collection with a lot of potential. The writer gives long detailed and emotive poetry throughout which really makes you connect to the words. Would recommend if you’re into learning more about mental health.
Life has its ups and downs. Bailey Gee shares her personal experiences and feelings in a way that is entertaining and often painfully honest! It is a book that can be read in one sitting and that you'll enjoy many times!
A lot of honesty. A lot of open emotion. The author speaks about depression, anxiety, abuse. Honesty is always beautiful, and vulnerability is always brave when it it comes to poetry.
I felt the author’s words in my heart. This was a deep, emotional journey, and I applaud the strength and bravery it must have taken to not only put these thoughts to paper but to also release it to the world. I hope others find and read this. It will be empowering for those who’ve lived a similar life. But even those who can’t relate can learn. Though I have not walked all these steps, there were many passages that struck cords from the life I’ve lived thus far.
A very quick read, although, very deep thought. Gee doesn't hold back from the dark thoughts that linger. Anxiety, suicide, medication. In a deliberate collection of emotions, I found myself empthizing for anyone whose ever felt alone. I remembered the times when I too felt alone.
This poetry book is amazing. Bailey Gee is an amazing writer. This poetry book is her thoughts & her soul in one book. You have to read this book you will definitely get to know who Bailey Gee really is.
A good read for poetry fans. Author Bailey Gee gets heartfelt and open with her collection of poems in The Many Personalities of Me. This collection also gives good reminders of the importance of mental health and how scary it can be to feel all alone.
I came into reading this story with an open mind, pleasantly finding that I can relate a lot to the innermost feelings of the author. Well written with a very deep emotional pool. 🖤
Sometimes we meet the wrong person. Sometimes we meet the worst. We see the journey of finding oneself as she realizes that that person that is needed most is herself. Maybe even some self love.
What worlds are there? Other than incredible! This author does an Amazing job, and really brings emotion to each poem. Hard topics to hit, and she got it right on the bullseye
Absolutely beautiful. Written with so much love and is so incredibly powerful. You'll laugh in places and you'll most definitely cry. I can't recommend it more.
This poet is angry and it shows. Her poetry is raw and open. Anyone who has lived through trauma will see glimpses of themselves in these verses. I recommend it 100%.
