A steamy new novella from USA Today bestselling author of The Nanny—available only in audio!
Shy, awkward Cade Monroe must be the only man in Florida who hates the beach. But when the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen kisses him unexpectedly one summer night, he might be forced to change his mind. A year later, and he’s still pining after her. The only catch? She doesn’t seem to remember the kiss. In fact, Cade isn’t sure she even knows he exists.
Nora Whitfield has definitely noticed Cade, the dark-haired, hot-in-a-scowly-way guy who gets coffee from her every morning. But with a past full of heartbreak, Nora isn’t looking to get involved—especially not with a man who barely speaks except to order.
When Cade finds himself desperately needing a new roommate, fate intervenes, thrusting them together. As secrets surface and sparks fly, Cade and Nora must decide if they're ready to risk their hearts for a second chance at a first kiss.
When he’s the super shy, awkward hot and humble man with a heart of gold. You can never go wrong with Lana Ferguson, this short and sweet novella is just pure gold.
𐙚⋆˚✿˖° Room for Two was honestly just… cute as hell 🥹💖
⭐️ 3.5 stars — rounded up because the audiobook narrators (Samantha Summers & Teddy Hamilton) carried and made the whole thing feel extra sweet.
──★ ˙🧷 ̟ !!
So this is an audio-only novella, which means it’s short, bingeable, and basically over before you know it. The vibe? Cozy, & low-stakes. Cade being shy & awkward but secretly pining for Nora?? Yeah, my heart melted a little.
Cade — my awkward king 🫶. He’s tall, shy, hates the beach, and has been obsessed with one kiss for a whole year. Peak golden-retriever-but-socially-awkward energy.
Nora — bold, flirty, barista girlie with walls up but a soft heart underneath. Honestly, she carried the banter.
Their besties — scheming matchmakers who trick them into their “date”/roommate setup… pure chaotic icons.
─── ౨ৎ˚⟡˖ ࣪
Little moments I loved: ☕ Cade fumbling his coffee order just to see Nora. 🌊 The beach date (even though he literally hates the beach 😭). 💋 The fact that the whole thing started with one drunken kiss she didn’t even remember—rom-com gold. 📖 The mutual pining written into every interaction.
But here’s the thing: as adorable as it was, it also felt unfinished. Like… one kiss, one date, and suddenly they’re in love? Nah, I needed at least another 200 pages of slow-burn chaos before I’d be convinced 😭. It read more like the start of a full-length romance than a complete arc.
─── 🎡💌✨
Still, it’s Lana Ferguson, so you know it’s going to be fun, flirty, and easy to devour. Perfect palate-cleanser between heavier books. Cade being painfully shy and Nora being the confident one made for a sweet dynamic, and the duet narration really gave them life.
𓇼🌊⋆★ cute, fluffy, bingeable—but left me wanting way more. Novella vibes are hit or miss, but if you love mutual pining + awkward golden retriever MMCs, you’ll probably grin the whole way through 🥰.
What to Expect: ➼ Mutual Pining ➼ Shy/Socially Awkward MMC ➼ Sunny FMC ➼ Blind Date/Set Up by their Best Friends ➼ Novella ➼ Dual Narration ➼ Dual First Person POV
This was really cute, but I do think 3ish stars is probably an accurate average rating. It’s a novella and it’s hard for me to ever rate novellas higher than four stars anyway, but this one didn’t succeed in making me feel quite as much as some of the others I’ve read have. I think the author might have oversold his awkward factor since it was pretty nonexistent in their actual interactions despite his constant internal dialogue that he was socially inept. He was completely obsessed with the FMC which was endearing, but I struggled to see what he saw in her. She was just another girl to me. 🤷🏼♀️
There was some focus on being forgotten by the people in their lives which felt like an odd inclusion since she had forgotten meeting him and he was still obsessed with her. She eventually remembers their first encounter, but this detail made his fixation on her seem more like a trauma response than actual interest. The author was clearly intending for this detail to be romantic, but it didn’t quite work for me. This was decent, but honestly pretty mid. It’s a quick read though if you’re looking for a palate cleanser!

Pre-read: About 10% in and wondering why this doesn’t have a higher rating. Cute so far! And great narration!
I CANNOT BELIEVE I GOT APPROVED ?!?!?! crying crying crying
i literally believe i am lana ferguson’s number one fan because with every new book, i love her writing more.
this romance novella was everything i love about lana ferguson’s books — well developed and realistic characters; cute little quirky moments; and H O T SPICY SCENES 💖
AND there was dual narration which is always my favorite!!
i’m ready for the next lana ferguson book NOW please!!
This was cute but oh my lord… Cade has been down bad for a YEAR over one surprise kiss. Meanwhile Nora’s just trying to get her coffee without this man internally combusting. The roommate setup was fun, the vibes were sweet (sometimes too awkward😭) but it never fully grabbed me.
4.0 ★— This was cute for what it was: a short novella with a simple story. The premise follows Nora, who, after her boyfriend breaks up with her, ends up kissing the MMC, Cade, during a drunken night. She forgets about it, but he doesn’t, and when she later turns out to be the barista at his regular coffee spot, the pining begins.
True to Lana Ferguson’s style, the MMC is big, tall, and hopelessly smitten with the heroine. This is the definition of a mindlessly fun binge!
🎧 Audiobook/Narration note: The performance was lovely. No complaints! It’s presented in a duet style with both a male and female narrator, which worked really well.

𝘱𝘳𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴!! .𖥔 ݁ ˖✰ hoping for a quick palate cleanser! Lana Ferguson is either a hit or a miss for me.. but this cover is doing it for me 🙌🙌]
the literal only thing that could have made this better would be for it to have been a full length novel!! i am absolutely in love with these two oblivious dorks 😭🩵
this novella audiobook was cute! since it’s a novella it’s short but still sweet. the connection between the two main characters developed nicely for it being a shorter story. both narrators also did a great job as bringing the mc’s to life! the dynamic between cade and nora secretly pining over each other was written well. overall, it’s full of good vibes. lana has done it again!
shy and awkward cade hates the beach (and it’s set in florida!) but when the most beautiful girl he’s seen unexpectedly kisses him one summer night, he is forced to change his mind. a year goes by and he still thinks about her, except she doesn’t remember the kiss. nora has noticed cade who gets coffee from her every morning but after her heartache from a breakup, she isn’t looking for love. cade finds himself desperately needing a roomate and fate intervenes putting them together.
* 3⭐️3🌶️ * The story follows shy, awkward Cade Monroe, who is still pining for Nora Whitfield after a memorable summer kiss that she doesn't remember. When Cade needs a roommate, fate brings them together, leading to sparks, secrets, and a second chance at love. * I love me some Teddy Hamilton but the way he does female voices just makes me internally cringe.
Not quite four full stars but I’ll round up for fairness.
Welp! Lana Ferguson has proven me wrong. I was absolutely convinced she couldn’t write contemporary romance but apparently, at least in short story form, she can.
I’ll go shut my mouth now.
And I’ll try her new contemporary romances which I’ve been avoiding since reading The Nanny, which was abysmal.
This was super cute. Two people who shared a moment once, have been tiptoeing around each other for a year until their respective friends set them up. Except each think they’re meeting the other for vastly different reasons.
The first couple of chapters are catchup/present day but the majority of the tale takes place on their non-date date. I won’t spoil it but it was adorable and both characters are very likable.
Good chemistry, solid dialogue and very sweet. Plus Teddy Hamilton narrates the MMC so… yeah, it’s good.
I enjoyed listening to this novella narrated by Samantha Summers and Teddy Hamilton. It was the perfect in-between books escape and the dual narration was .
It’s a novella so it’s fast paced but it didn’t feel rushed or like it was missing anything.
Nora meets Cade on the heels of a break-up. They share a drunken (on her end) kiss which doesn’t remember. Cade was such a gentleman - I was instantly smitten!
He harbors a crush for her from that moment but is too shy to even properly speak to her. Nora finds herself crushing on him too and their two friends concoct a scheme to get them together.
The mutual pining, awkward date moments and banter between these two was so fun. I binged this in one listen while running errands. It was both sweet & spicy and just what I needed in between longer books.
I love me some Lana Ferguson, so when I saw she wrote a novella for Spotify audiobooks, I couldn’t wait to listen. I was lucky enough to get an early copy. This novella gives us the backstory of shy MMC Cade and outgoing FMC Nora. She drunkenly kisses him randomly one night after getting dumped. He visits her coffee shop and lines from afar. Little does he know, she pines for him too. Their friends set them up. He is looking for a roommate and she thinks it’s a blind date. Hilarity ensues.
You’ll have to listen to see what else happens. All I can say is that I wanted more. I could totally see this as a full length book. More on the pining over each other at the coffee shop. More backstory on their friends that set them up. I want to know what happens after the set up!
Thanks to Lana, Spotify audiobooks, and NetGalley for an early copy of this novella.

3.5 stars! Room for Two is a contemporary romance audiobook novella narrated by Samantha Summers and Teddy Hamilton. This was a fun easy listen!
Cade and Nora are cute and slightly quirky. Both have been secretly into one another for a while but don’t realize the other is too. This starts with a little cutesy miscommunication messy mixup by their friends (purposefully). He thinks she’s in the market for a roommate and is interviewing her for that’s, while she thinks they’re finally on a date! 🤭 Adorable, spicy, mutual pining, he’s been into her for the longest, he’s shy and sweet and remembers everything she likes, cutie side characters/friends. The perfect snack-size little romance novella! The audiobook narrators knocked it out of the park.
I received an audio ALC, all thoughts in this review are my own.
I thought it couldn’t get any worse when the male narrator started mimicking a female voice for Nora’s speaking parts…then the female narrator did the same for Cade. I wasted my Spotify audiobook hours on this.
well damn i was not expecting to give a five star to a 3 hour audiobook but it was just so amazing. i definitely have to start reading more of lana ferguson bc i loved the writing style. also need more audiobooks with teddy hamilton bc his voice is amazing 🙏🙏 but yeah i listened to this whole audiobook while coloring and it reminded me of say you’ll remember me by abby jimenez, which is definitely one of my favorite books this year.
I ALSO LOVE ME A SHY MAN AND CHAPTER 15 HAD ME GOING FERAL (👅)
Pros: This is a short and sweet novella about two people who have been pining for each other for over a year. Through their friends meddling, they finally go out on what he thinks is a potential roommate interview, while she thinks it is a blind date.
The spice is only in the last two chapters, but it's delicious and well written 🥵😳.
Cons: Due to the short nature of the story, there isn't a chance for a strong character development, especially on the FMC side. However, the author did a great job at giving the characters depth and a brief connection of them meeting once in the past. This imo, makes the whole thing more believable and realistic.
Final thoughts: I enjoyed this story and would recommend it, even if it's not perfect.
4 stars. This was adorable until the end when I did feel like the story started to feel somewhat rushed. I realize this is a short story, and the author can only do so much if they don’t plan on writing a full length novel, but the whole timeline of the story was one day and those just never fully work for me. Also, FYI, hero is pretty beta and the heroine is a little pushy.
𐙚⋆°。⋆♡ ── pre-read ive heard many things about lana's books and have been eyeing this audiobook since my spotify premium ended & i just got the hold on libby so here we go!!!

This was just the cutest story, and had me smiling the whole time 🥰
I absolutely adored both Nora and Cade, but I gotta say it was especially Cade that did it for me in this one 🥹
He was just the sweetest shy boy, scowling to hide his crush & fumbling his words when he got flustered 🥹
I loved the premise & how their best friends tricked them/set them up (Nora thinks it’s a blind date, and Cade thinks he’s interviewing a new roommate 🤭).
With novellas, chemistry can be tricky but their backstory & bit of history made it more believable!
🎧 audiobook thoughts: Samantha Summers & Teddy Hamilton were the perfect fit for these two characters, capturing their energies & personalities well 🥰
For an audio-only production, I would loved to have heard this with a cast or at least in duet narration, but that’s just personal preference.
📖 Room for Two by Lana Ferguson 💜: contemporary romance 🎙 narrated by: Samantha Summer & Teddy Hamilton
Room for two is a dual POV novella that starts when Cade is kissed by a mysterious woman at the beach (a year prior to when the main events of the book take place). During that year, Cade realizes that the mystery woman is Nora, the barista at the coffee shop where she works; however, she has no memory of the kiss and who Cade is. For Nora, Cade is the handsome guy who is a regular at the coffee shop but doesn't show any interest in her, as their only interaction is just when he orders his coffee.
I enjoyed that the author created well-rounded characters, but I feel that we would have enjoyed them a lot more if this would have been a full length novel.
