Using a special ruby, Trevor discovers a fantasy world where powerful men obtain harems, foxy ladies swish their tails, and magic is real. An awesome kicker—he's a ruby mage capable of turning his foes to cinder.
This popped up on my recommendations after reading a book from a different author. I didn't know they were connected until it started referencing people and places from the other book. Since I enjoyed the other book, it made me like this one even more.
This was fun, as long as you can ignore the errors. There are several instances were characters get referred to by similar but different names, and have the wrong pronouns used seemingly at random.
As long as you can deal with that, thoroughly enjoyable read. If those sort of errors are a deal breaker for you, consider this a warning.
I feel a pass through by a good editor would do wonders for it.
At my request I received a copy of this audiobook in order to give a fair and unbiased review
Genre: Fantasy harem lit with magic and teleportation between worlds Power dynamics in harem: The Main Character is in charge and the members advice. Explicit/adult material: Explicit with dom/sub vibes and orgies.
Summary: Trevor discovers some magical stones while digging as a part of his job as an archaeologist. To everyone else they seem like normal stones. But he soon learns that these stones allow him to travel to another world. A world of magic and monsters. He uses his new found magic and the stones to build himself a position in this new world and has soon gathered himself a harem of loyal and exotic women.
Narrators Voice diversity: Well done. The characters each have their own voice and you can hear who says what from the voices. Pacing and intonation: Both narrators does a great job at making the story go alive with their natural and matching pacing and intonation. Sex scenes: Well done. Overall: 4.5 / 5 stars.
The book’s strengths. - So many exotic semi-monster girls - Great world building - The action is plentiful and well told, but not overabundant. - The narration
The book’s weaknesses. - The women are introduced a bit fast for me, I find myself struggling to remember who was who for a bit.
Overall: 4/5 stars A nice start to a new series with lots of world building and room for the story to grow into a truly epic series.
Not a horrible book in my opinion but I'm not a great one either. The author is quite for both and some areas and creates a very long story. Certainly get your money's worth With the word count. That said The transitions were weak and lack description and the whole magic system was extremely vague. Which wouldn't be bad but we are talking about the ruby mage. And the final problem was the MC was not likable to me. I found his change when he got power to be less than noble and he was a selfish ass. I'm sure some people enjoy reading about characters like that but I do not. There's always a lot more to This story/series but I doubt I'll be reading much more.I read other books that the author has written and they are in my opinion better And the author is of course great when it comes to value. Big book for the money.
Lots of he she errors. Also context confusion. Some weird phases, or sentences that you need to read a few times. Overall you'll get the point but it detracts from the story too much for me.
Next flaw are the characters. The MC is genetic for several chapters, and then wham he's a giant BDSM Master that needs to make all these power plays. Oh by the way now that's going to influence all his actions. That should have come up sooner and there should have been tells or actions that spoke to that.
There is a little more to criticize but why bother. Basically its got good bones but is just a rough draft, needs edits, plural.
Mr. Raxor needs to hire an editor or gather some beta readers. First, the good parts. Very imaginative story. Kept me happily reading to the last page. Good world building. Sympathetic characters and excellent plotting. Second, the ugly parts. Tenses. Jumping from idea to idea in mid sentence. Incomplete thoughts. Back to the good parts. This author is certainly worth a follow. I can absolutely seeing Mr. Raxor becoming wildly successful in the near future.
I was pleasantly surprised by this story. I enjoyed that it was very in-depth without being boring or lackluster. It wasn't overloaded with steamy scenes to make up for a lack of story. The plot development and character development are very well done and well-balanced with action and adventure. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series. And I will be exploring other books by Dan Raxor.
The character goes from being mild mannered seeming when first introduced then he quickly falls to how I see someone act from a harder world would to hardship, being ruthless and uncaring to those not his own. Being realistic rather than being idealistic as the world throws it's best punches. The other book preview at the end looks even better too, so actually looking forward to that one more than the sequel of this one, but I'll still read and buy both!
This is a tough one. The main character is horribly flawed. Throughout the book he is presented in one manner then acts the opposite for the rest of the time. He never picks a path but bounces from one to another as others use him. Reading about him is boring. The world events and other characters are what would keep me coming back, but not the main character. Him I could not care less about.
This was surprisingly good given that it looks like its the authors first book. World building was solid and interesting and the magic was just different enough to not feel like a rehash of something generic. Worth a read if you are into the harem fantasy scene.
Exciting, thrilling, well worth the time of adults.(not for children)
My high praise for the story, pacing and other elements of this book. I've given it 3stars because the grammatical editing is so atrocious! Maybe another editor? I'll read a sequel, try the author's other books.
A disaster!!! Apparently, the authors is in contempt of both spellcheckers(algorithms) and proofreaders (people). The plot could be interesting (altough quite a few books have recently been written on a similar subject); however, the writing is the worst by far I experienced during the last few years. Rewrite from first to last word, then it should be worth reading.
DNF. Terrible. I'm just sick of so many of these books having the same MC. Honestly is there some kind of copy and paste system for harem story MCs? Why are they all weak, timid, doubtful, insecure losers? Tiresome. When the author started in with a feminist sermon of how bad history was for women and how great it was for men it went in the trash.
I seriously enjoyed reading this book. Loved the storyline and the characters. Really fun to watch Trevor figure out how to wield his power and how he walks the line between being a really good guy and not letting his darker side through. I hope to see more of this series.
I've not read a story like this before. Storyline and characters and situations. . . Every time that I thought to skip ahead the story demanded to be read. Yes, I enjoyed the story and Mr Raxors writing style. 👍👌💥👙
Some really cool ideas in this book. The only issue I really had was with the amount of typos. Pretty frequently we got "he" instead of her. Or "for" in place of "of". Was a bit annoying. But other than that this was a fun read.
I enjoyed reading this book. The story and characters were interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This is definitely worth giving a chance.
When I first started reading this book, I really detested the MC , he did get better. It is a slow arc though. All in all it was a fun read, just stick with it.
