Incarnation

Rate this book
It is the 24th century, and Earth has outlawed all religion following a devastating war fueled by zealotry on all sides. Rogue starship captain Maggie Sullivan defies authorities and embarks upon a dangerous mission in search of a rumored incarnation of Christ on a far-off planet. Her band of unlikely rebels includes a Nobel Prize-winning professor of anti-religious studies, his entourage, and a feisty, genetically-enhanced parrot who thinks she's the iconic singer Janis Joplin. Together, they risk not just their lives, but their very souls to find the ultimate freedom.

This edgy science-fiction novella pulls no punches as it explores the relationship of spirit to matter and of God to creation. A thought-provoking tale of faith, love, and sacrifice.

"I see Christ as the Incarnation of the piper who is calling us. He dances that shape and pattern, which is at the heart of our reality. By Christ, I mean not only Jesus; in other times and places, other planets, there may be other Lords of the Dance." -Sydney Carter

Incarnation is a Science Fiction Adventure, featuring FTL travel, energy weapons, alien civilizations and a totalitarian government. But these are tools, mere devices to assist the author tell her story, the real story, of not just a search for Christ, but a search for meaning in a time when humans as a race have taken secularism to an extreme conclusion. Spirituality, more than religion, is the theme of this book far more than the spaceships it features.

Intelligent, thought-provoking and brilliantly written, the author creates an unfamiliar world in which the reader will see echoes of our own, and a cast of characters only too human in their strengths and their weaknesses.

Devin's talent in evoking empathy in the reader for the experiences of the characters in her books comes to the front more so than ever before in this, her latest work. There is both despair and hope, not just for the cast and crew, but also for all of humanity.

This book may not contain all the answers to man's ever more frantic search for a higher purpose, but it does ask at least some of the questions.

Read this, and wonder if we are not just on the wrong path, but if we've lost the path completely.

Maggie was the pilot of a ship on a mission to observe a cultural rebirth of a messiah on a neighboring planet. What she did not realize was that she and the other members of the expedition were part of a bigger story. This is a tale of faith that has been told and retold for generations and which will be told forever no matter how hard authority figures try to stop it.

This is a fantastic story about faith, forgiveness, and the power of God to always find a way to reach us no matter where we are in time or space. I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking more from this life or wondering if God is truly out there. This book is masterfully written. It reminds us that God is a relationship and not a religion. Therefore, it does not matter if religion is banned because all you need is your personal faith in something bigger than any of us and its power to make everything all right despite the hardships involved in doing so.

What can I say? I was completely taken off guard by this story; it was not what I expected when I started reading it. I was captivated by the beginning and could not put it down. I thought I was just going to read a science fiction story about rebels, romance and aliens. But what I got was so much more, it was a captivating story about love and hope. Great story.
