In the latest from the author of Ghost Killer, Clare Cermak and Zach Slade adjust to living as psychics - and a couple - as they encounter vengeful souls....
An angry poltergeist is stirring up trouble at Buffalo Bill's grave, and Clare and Zach have been hired to investigate. Assisting them on the case, as usual, is their ghost dog, Enzo, but they're also aided by the restless ghost of Bill's friend, Texas Jack. Meanwhile, the most well-known psychic in Denver is angered by Clare's involvement in the case and will do whatever it takes to stop her. Of course, facing threats both living and undead are nothing new for Clare and Zach. Their relationship has weathered many storms. But there is a growing danger inside of Clare that could tear them both apart....
The last book in the series ended on an exciting high note both with Claire and Zach and Enzo the ghost dog barely escaping with their lives, but also that big declaration between the two. I've always been a bit off balance with this series, but find it engaging with its unique world, quirky characters, and interesting new psychic mystery cases for the team to solve.
This is book four in a series and the series is an ongoing story so the books have to be read in order.
Claire and Zach just want to rest after nearly being killed by an evil ghost, but two days after they are back, they get the call. There is a poltergeist being troublesome at Buffalo Bill Cody's grave. The wealthy man who lives nearby is a believer in the paranormal and he is excited at the prospect of the ghost and seeing Claire in action.
This new connection drags Claire further into the spotlight and into the Denver paranormal community including a jealous rival who wants to use the ghost as his big step up in fame and fortune. Claire has accepted her gift and new vocation more and more, but this is a big step going toe to toe with a fake and joining the paranormal society. She finds it easier with Zach by her side. Zach is still in the closet about his own pre-cog gift, but he is at least accepting it. He is also growing past being resigned to being content over his new role as a private investigator and his limitations from his disability. They have drawn close and now ponder stepping up their relationship to the commitment of living together.
Alongside the issue of the new poltergeist, Claire has another ghost to help. Buffalo Bill's friend is stuck in the gray and Claire must help him and then there is the troublesome issue of the tear to her own spirit that isn't healing. Time is of essence so Claire, Zach, and Enzo work hard to solve their cases and settle into their new roles.
Alright, this was a more gentle-paced and less intense book than the last one. I also liked that the focus is off Claire denying and ignoring stuff about her gift and her feelings. Whew, her issues were really getting old. This book was a relief for me and I settled in to enjoy the new ghost cases and the romance and the characters as a result.
Claire is still her quirky neurotic self about things having to balance and rules needing to be established and followed, but because she is coming into her own and accepting the family ghost seer gift and not running scared from romance with Zach, she's not annoying. I loved seeing her confront the fake medium and it was fun to see her pondering how to talk Zach into moving in with her. And she is so funny the way she bristles up around Zach's boss and embraces the man's cunning wife that brings out the opposite in Zach.
And Zach, he's much further along in accepting things and adjusting, too. I find his pre-cog gifts with the crows a creative gift and I like that the author wrote a damaged hero who has a physical disability and is learning new skills like cane fighting. But most of all, I enjoy that Zach can appreciate a woman like Claire and support her even while he worries for her safety. Oh boy can he appreciate her. These two were quite scorchy and I loved Zach's sweet need to court Claire even while they had some spicy passionate times.
Oh, and let's not forget Enzo the ghost dog. He's been my favorite character. Love the way he enthusiastically helps Claire and Zach with their cases.
The story has a meandering pace to it, but there was enough going on with the cases, the conflict with the other psychic, the romance, and personal development that I was content until the build up and climax at the end. The author took the time to do some reveals, like Tony's mysterious psychic gift, while shoring up the ongoing plot threads before moving on in the series with too many things left dangling and unanswered. Claire and Zach's relationship and their personal growth were the big highlights of the story though I have to say that the ghost of Texas Jack and his part in the story nearly topped the other story threads. I fell in love with Texas Jack. Soft spot for those good-hearted rugged cowboys.
I've said in past reviews that I was on the fence about this series and that there were elements that I loved and elements that annoyed me. With this story, I finally slid off the fence and am firmly on the side of enjoyment. I look forward to the next installment with excitement.
So, in summary, this was my favorite book of the series and a turning point for me so that I can recommend this quirky Urban Fantasy series with ghosts and psychic gifts as the backdrop and a unique pair of partners and lovers.
My thanks to Penguin Group for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Marlene: I picked this up because I usually love Robin D. Owens’ writing, and so far, the Ghost Seer series has definitely NOT been the exception. I’ve reviewed every book in the series here at the Book Pushers, with one or more cohorts in crime, and have enjoyed every book, often, as on this occasion, more than the other book I’m reading at the time.
E: It is great being back in a Owens’s tale. She has been on my autobuy list for a very long time and never disappoints. I have enjoyed reviewing this series with Marlene because while we share the love for Owens we often pick up on different point. I have been a bit anxious over Clare because the last book was rather traumatic and I wanted to see how Clare was going to handle things.
Marlene: One of the important considerations when diving into this series is that the story so far is one interconnected narrative. It’s not just that events in book 3 (Ghost Killer) have impacts in book 4, but that the action follows immediately, while the characters are still reeling from those events.
As much as it drives some readers a bit bonkers that Clare isn’t adjusting to her gift fast enough, it always takes a minute to realize that while we are four books in, it’s only been one month for Clare since her entire universe turned upside down. She built a completely rational world for herself as an accountant, an antidote to the rootless, wandering, chaotic life she had with her parents. Being forced to give up the life she built, literally on pain of death, is a blow that she is still recovering from.
Most people take a bit more than 30 days to recover from an extremely unwelcome shock, and it feels real that Clare hasn’t either. Even though we’re four books in and wish she would wake up and smell the ghostly coffee beans already. Which she finally does in Ghost Talker.
E: I think in several ways Ghost Talker signified a turning point for Clare. She barely survived the combination of learning she really had to accept and use her heritage while facing down against a truly evil ghost capable and willing to kill. She also learned other people had different gifts which could also be used for good or evil. And then she learned how much she cared about Zach. All of this made me wonder if Clare was going to snap. Instead she made some seriously hard choices and took some chances with Zach, her ghostly familiar, and how she wanted to use her gift. For once I had the feeling that instead of reacting to events Clare was beginning to regain her balance and start driving things in her life. I am super curious to see how much this shifts the status quo in follow-on books.
Marlene: One of the things that I liked about this entry in the series, and that got shorted in Ghost Killer, is the ghost. While there is a ghostly problem that Clare and Zach have to solve, the ghost that they have to work with is someone that both they and the reader really want to help. And he’s also a fascinating historical figure. “Texas Jack” Omohundro is stuck in the grey and sticking around the grave of his old friend “Buffalo Bill” Cody. Texas Jack was the stage name of John Baker Omohundro, and he was a frontier scout, actor and cowboy who is in the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in the Hall of Great Western Performers. He was part of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, and there were “dime novels” written about his scouting and guiding in the West. His wife was Giuseppina Morlacchi, the dancer who introduced the can-can to America.
Texas Jack is stuck near Buffalo Bill’s grave in Colorado because he can’t manage to get himself to his wife’s grave in Massachusetts. He promises to help Clare and Zach lay the poltergeist that is stirring things up around Buffalo Bill’s grave if they’ll promise to get him to Massachusetts.
Texas Jack is a terrific character, and his presence and his storytelling abilities add a lot to Ghost Talker.
E: Texas Jack was such a fun character. I think he was up next to Enzo in terms of enjoyable ghostly supporting characters for me. I loved the sense of history and real flavor of Clare’s “time” he brought to this story. To me the ghosts, their stories, and emotional arc keep Clare and Zach grounded in today’s world and often give them incentive to keep working on their relationship. I think they learn from the ghosts and in this particular case Zach’s character took a huge leap in growth. I loved seeing him take an active role in more than one area involving his particular gift. I do have some questions about how a particular scene worked without Clare’s presence… guess that means I need to go back and reread the story which really doesn’t bother me at all.
Marlene: The mystery that Clare and Zach have to solve has multiple layers. There is a real poltergeist doing some serious damage to Buffalo Bill’s grave, just in time to mess up the annual festival. And there is a con man operating in the area, taking advantage of the poltergeist and anyone who believes in psychic phenomena. He’s a fake, but Clare is the real deal, and her very real abilities threaten his fraudulent lifestyle.
So it’s up to Clare and Zach to lay the poltergeist, with the help of Texas Jack, and to expose the fraudster, with the help of the Rickman Agency and especially Mrs. Flinton.
E: I also enjoyed the many layers of events Clare and Zach faced, the ghosts, the con man, Rickman Agency, and Mrs. Flinton were all part of the complexity. While Rickman and Mrs. Flinton did help Clare and Zach I am getting rather frustrated with how they seem to be “assisting” Clare go public with her abilities. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Clare and Zach take turns discomforting Rickman but I think he still needs to be taken down a notch or two. I also thought Mrs. Flinton crossed several lines with particular action and while Clare withheld most of her initial response I really wanted her to re-emphasize her boundaries and to see Mrs. Flinton display more remorse instead of being pleased with how things worked out. But like I said in the beginning Clare is starting to take charge of her life again so I have hopes she will continue to grow in that particular area.
Marlene: I agree 100% about Mrs. Flinton. Even though she was right that Clare needs to step out of the psychic closet, she was wrong about the way she did it. Over and over and over. It’s Clare’s life and not hers. I expected Clare to react to the overt manipulation, but she never did. Rickman was almost as manipulative, but his motives were strictly business and Clare pushed back more. Clare is so clear that she doesn’t like being manipulated, but she gets stuck between a rock and a hard place because she doesn’t want to upset Mrs. Flinton either. Still, something should have been said in private, otherwise this is going to keep happening until there’s a nasty blow-up.
And as always in this series, Clare and Zach are still negotiating their relationship with each other, their relationship with their own gifts, and their relationship with pasts that neither of them was willing to let go of. They do better at some of these negotiations than others, but they definitely achieve forward progress all the way around. And ghost-dog Enzo is always around to provide love, assistance and ghostly comic relief.
E: I really liked the relationship growth in this story. Yes at times it was two steps forward and one back but they made so much progress. Emotions were running high at the end of Ghost Killer so it was good to see them reaffirm some of those emotions while events were much calmer. Clare is still rather tentative and closed off but on several occasions she was completely open. Zach has also lost a lot of his self consciousness regarding his permanent injury and his wishes for what once was. Seeing them work together instead of separately or even at odds gave me hope for their relationship.
Marlene: I liked this entry in the series every bit as much as I did Ghost Layer, and quite a bit more than Ghost Killer or the first book, Ghost Seer. I’m glad that Clare and Zach are becoming more accepting of their gifts, and that they are both becoming more public about who they really are. While there is some push-pull in their relationship, it’s at a higher level. Zach is doing better at not interfering with Clare doing what she needs to do. Their partnership is more even.
I’m looking forward to the next book in the series (Ghost Maker, scheduled for Oct. 2016) and equally hope that it doesn’t follow the pattern of the even numbers being good and the odd numbers not so much.
I give Ghost Talker a B+
E: This was a fabulous installment in Owens’ series. So many things fell into place between the living characters, the dead, and those elements who are expected to guide/assist Clare as she uses her gift/heritage. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I LOVED the beginning of the Ghost Seer series because the couple got together and stayed together, working TOGETHER. The romance between Claire and Zach has never been in question. The relationship and the effort involved in caring for each other, is part of their everyday.
Claire and Zach each have their own issues and problems. BUT they supported each other. So with their struggles over the major career changes, housing and now the relationship, they still helped each other grow as people. I like that. Each of them pushed the other, just a little, to face issues and be more, providing constant acceptance whatever the choices.
The touches of the Old West history are fun, although this is fiction. It is an interesting story without so much detail as to be tedious. The case was better this time, more organized. Claire and Zach each contributed with their personal strengths and gifts. Enzo wasn’t quite as silly as I recall. The couple learns more about their psychic skills and makes some new friends.
All in all, I enjoyed Ghost Talker. The series feels equal part romance with urban fantasy. So if you like more romance in your urban fantasy, this would be a series for you.
I normally like this series, but for some reason this one fell a bit flat for me. Not sure why because I really liked Texas Jack, loved his interaction with Zack, Clare and Enzo. I liked the forward movement with Zack and Clare's relationship. Liked how with this book Clare seemed to finally accept all the new changes in her life. The Buffalo Bill part was blah and thought it took too much time.
I liked this installment better than the previous book. Clare and Zach are starting to accept their new circumstances and their relationship feels more settled too. In "book" time, it's only been a month since Clare's gift manifested and they got together, so that's actually pretty fast. The s*x scenes also feel more appropriate timed than the previous book.
I'm looking forward to finding out more about Clare's wound though.
Ghost Seer #4 We are in the 4th book and we are only a little over a month in the timeline since the first book started. To me that just doesn't seem like enough time for the amount of stuff that has happened… Enjoy!

Review:
I enjoy reading paranormal ghost stories and this one was a good read. Clare is a ghost seer and together with her partner, Zach, and their ghost dog, Enzo, they are hired to investigate strange happenings at the grave site of Buffalo Bill. At their first trip to the site, Clare meets Texas Jack, another ghost who needs help moving on. He is not the one wreaking havoc at the gravesite, but he will be instrumental in helping Clare and Zach in their investigation.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in creating characters that you can care about and cheer for. Clare struggled with her ghost seeing ability and did not always consider it a positive. Many times she thinks it is a curse. She is a very caring person and tries her best to help others (mostly ghosts) in any way she can. Zach does not see ghosts but he does have his own psychic abilities involving crows. I thought it was very interesting reading the saying about crows and then seeing how Zach put that knowledge to work. And who does not love Enzo, the best ghost dog ever. Reading about their interactions and watching their relationship grow was very enjoyable and is something I like to see when reading a book..
This book is action packed and I liked the fact that there was more than one ghost for them to help. The recently deceased soul, who was bewildered and disoriented, and Texas Jack. I thought that the author did a great job interweaving both ghost stories. I also thought it was clever to include a non-ghost bad guy, one who is very easy to dislike. I wanted to see him get what was coming to him. I also liked the old west setting, that is not something I usually read about. It was nice change of scenery and I enjoyed it. I thought it provided an extra level to this book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted ghost paranormal. This is the first book that I have read in this series (and the first one by this author) but it will definitely not be my last. This book is a very good addition to this genre.
Quick & Dirty: Clare, Zach and Enzo are back trying to help a new ghost and facing a new danger!
Opening Sentence: “It’s a poltergeist messing with Buffalo Bill’s grave!” enthused the sixties-something guy who’d called the Denver police.
The Review:
Clare and Zach get the call that there is a poltergeist at Buffalo Bill’s grave, but when they arrive Clare is pretty sure she won’t be able to help him as he died in 1917 and she can only see and talk to ghosts from the time period 1850-1889. Clare quickly finds that Texas Jack is the ghost at the grave, but he isn’t the poltergeist. He says the poltergeist is a fairly new ghost. Clare knows she has a lot on her plate if she has to help Texas Jack and try to help the poltergeist as well. On top of it all, a well-known physic is on the case as well and he wants to prove that Clare is a fake.
He even ambushes Clare with the press but ends up looking like a fool when the ghost is from Clare’s time period and she helps Clare prove that she is actually talking to a ghost. Clare doesn’t know just yet how dangerous of an enemy she has made this time. Soon Zach and Clare are on the trail of figuring out what Texas Jack is still hanging around and who the mysterious poltergeist that is messing with Buffalo Bill’s grave. Worst of all, the wound she sustained from the last book is still bugging her.
This is a good little series as each book progresses Clare learns a little more about her abilities and limitations. In this book, Clare and Zach’s relationship also takes major steps forward as well and that was great to see. Overall, these are all quick easy reads. I like them, I just don’t love them. I think I finally figured out why. For me, one of the things I like about a long series is the deeper mystery. Every little book can solve a case or address some part of an issue, but each book should first raise questions and then as you go along slowly answer them and add more. That’s one of the things that I really love about a long well-done series.
Ghost Seer at least in my opinion, hasn’t reached that depth yet, there are cases in every book, and she is learning and gaining in her abilities. But there isn’t or doesn’t appear to be a deeper story, that being said it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It’s just what I prefer when reading trilogies or a longer series.
Notable Scene:
“Desiree deals with the living.” A tendril of old resentment, like a nasty black worm wriggled through Clare before she crushed it. Desiree saw auras of the living, couldn’t even sense Enzo. Clare was stuck with ghosts who touched her with chill fingers and where the icy experience worsened by double or triple when she touched them. Not to mention the close calls she often had when sending a major phantom on. “I don’t deal with the living like Desiree or you.”
FTC Advisory: InterMix/Penguin provided me with a copy of Ghost Talker. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
Robin D. Owens returns to the Ghost Seer series with the fourth book, Ghost Talker. Readers who have followed the series, will love that Clare and Zach are settling into their relationship and into life as psychics. This is a series that takes the original paranormal character, the ghost, and uses it as the focal point for a couple of psychics who solve crimes and lay ghosts for a living. Intrigued yet? You should be... this is a great new addition to the series!
What I liked:
I have read this entire series and loved every book. Robin D. Owens is a celebrated author, but this series is a bit of a change for her. The other books she has written were more of a cross between science fiction and paranormal romance. This series is something different. It leans more to the paranormal romance side but also has some very good mystery aspects. Zach is a former cop who has some psychic abilities that he has refused to explore until he meets Clare who has only recently learned to use her gift for laying ghosts or helping them reach the other side.
In Owens' latest installment to the series, the couple is finally getting used to the idea that they can see more than the average person, including a ghost dog named Enzo. What I liked so much about this one was the way Zach and Clare worked together. Clare's gift is generally confined to a certain time period. Ghosts of the old west, which is explored in every book in the series. In this one Buffalo Bill's grave is stirring up some trouble and his friend Texas Jack is haunting Clare. He won't rest until it's sorted out. Zach is ever by Clare's side and helping her to solve her cases. I loved the way they worked together and how Owen's incorporates Zach's abilities as well.
I have wanted Zach to embrace his psychic abilities from the beginning and seeing him so relaxed and comfortable in his own skin was great in this one. Clare brings out that part of him, just like she brings out his psychic gift. The chemistry between these two has always been great but in this one it seems more real and lasting than before. Zach needs her and she needs him. A great couple and very fun to read about. I like their passion and their romantic sides as well.
What I didn't like:
I love this series. Nothing to dislike here. If you like the paranormal, this one has everything you need in a good series. If you like romance it has that too. And there is mystery. How many books have all three? Not too many.
Bottom Line:
Buffalo Bill has always been one of those old west characters that I have loved. He was such a big personality and I liked that the mystery involved Bill and his friend Texas Jack. I always wondered how things might have been between these two in real life. Owens does a fantastic job of incorporating historical elements into her stories. I love Zach and Clare and the fact that both of them are becoming comfortable with each other and their abilities. A great addition to this wonderful series!

My Reviews:
I liked the conversations between Tex and Enzo because you get your ghost buddy and ghost puppy and it just becomes comical. Its funny getting the whole depiction of how a dog would be interpreted into a person mentality wise so I love all the conversations Enzo gets to be a part of.
Clare seems a bit more testy as far as her limitations on patience this time around and it comes out in her relationship with Zach for a large portion of the book. My biggest bug that annoyed me was the whole "Love.. Love - er.. Love?" debate/nick name and reluctance during love making moments because it causes a stall out in the mood.
But I also liked that they found a way through both good times and bad together so you get an even mix of forward and back in their emotional stage of their relationship.
Over all I thought this was a great read and I always have a good time with Owens Ghost Seer series.
Ghost Talker by Robin D. Owens is the 4th book in her Ghost Seer series. I enjoy this series, as it is a different type of read for me, with ghosts as the main theme. Robin D. Owens is a wonderful writer and I love two of her other series. She can take any theme, usually different and paranormal or fantasy and make it fun and believable; she also has a way of creating great characters.
In Ghost Talker, we meet up again with Clare, Zach and Enzo as Clare is involved once again to help a ghost move on. But first there usually is a mystery or something to prolong it. I loved Ghost Talker and I thought this was the best one yet. Clare becomes more confident, and her relationship with Zach grows into love for both of them. Together, with Enzo, our loveable ghost dog, they all three make a great team.
This new case for Clare had a nice calmer ghost, not some evil spirits from previous stories. There was a villain, who pretended to talk to the dead, taking people’s money and being the fraud he was. He was determined to bring Clare down. Actually the story revolved around two ghosts, Texas Jack and a poltergeist, who is a recent ghost who is confused and wild. Before Clare and team can help Jack move on, he had to help them solve the issue of the new ghost and help him move on.
This was a fun story, with a lot of attention paid to Clare and Zach’s hot romance, and the coming to terms with their calling and accepting it. Though Clare is the Ghost Seer; Zach does have some psychic ability of his own, which is more of a warning system with crows. There was excitement and danger, especially when the fraudulent medium sees his ruse being revealed and goes after Clare. To tell too much more would be spoilers.
I really enjoyed this story, and am very happy that Clare has finally fully accepted her calling. Again, Enzo makes this a fun journey with his antics and helping both Clare and Zach. Robin D. Owens does a wonderful job of continuing the adventures of Clare, Zach and Enzo with an exciting, at times tense, historical tale of the old west, though in modern times, and the great romance between Clare and Zach. If you enjoy mysteries, adventure, excitement, fun, ghost element and a sexy couple, you should be reading this series. I suggest you start with the first book, since you need to see the growth of Clare, Zach and Enzo. You can never go wrong with anything written by Robin Owens.
Robin is an incredible world builder. I love how it’s not the same story with a different named ghost each time. Robin has such a great way of expanding her worlds and introducing new elements into her world as she goes. A little bit here and a little bit there. You can really see them taking shape in your mind and it’s believable. During this story there were some interesting developments for Clare and Zach as a couple and individually. Robin also revealed some really interesting things about the seer world and some other characters that will hopefully show up again and we will learn more about them.
No two ghosts are the same and their circumstances aren’t the same either. Clare’s next case is a little different than her others. Not only are there two ghosts to be dealt with and help cross over but one is a modern ghost out of Clare’s time period. I liked watching Clare and Zach work together to figure out who the modern ghost was and how to help him cross over. Zach was really back in his element throughout this story which was exciting to see. Both Clare and Zach seemed to really come into themselves by the end of the story both in their vocations and in their personal life.
I love watching Clare and Zach navigate their relationship. There is so much balance between them. They have flaws but they can see past them and love each other anyway. They help each other both in their personal life and professional. I want to say that they are an example of a perfect couple but they both have flaws and everyone has a opinion. What they do have going for them is their open communications, supporting each other and helping each other. It’s so rare to find that in life and few authors seem to find it for their character’s as well. It’s in the small details I think. I always like getting to see both sides of their relationship during the story. I like seeing their inner thoughts, their reasoning’s and struggles. It definitely helps me to relate to them and love them even more.
There are some little tidbits that showed up throughout the story that made me want to ask Robin a million questions about them but all would be spoilers for future books I am sure.
Ghost Talker, the fourth novel in the Ghost Seer series, finds Clare and Zach trying to solve the problem of a poltergeist disturbing Buffalo Bill's grave. Robin D. Owens has done a good job of evolving the psychic abilities of these two characters, as well as increasing the depth of feelings between them, so that the relationships continuing storyline is moving forward. Nothing makes a reader more mad than a stagnating romance, and this one is anything but standing still!
Clare's psychic abilities are confined to being able to speak to ghosts from the Old West. In this book, she uses an old west ghost as a conduit of sorts to help she and Zach solve what turns out to be a current problem. Zach puts his sleuthing abilities to work, and takes a larger role in this book, in solving the mystery, than he has in the past. I liked that change, as it puts their relationship on a more even footing, which I think it needed, to make their feelings more believable. The good versus evil theme, didn't just play out in the Old West. They had a real life antagonist to protect themselves against, which forced Clare to make a decision about her life as a psychic. Would her psychic life remain private, or would she have to out herself?
Clare and Zach are opening up about their feelings, and their psychic abilities seem to have a more permanent foothold in their lives. In fact, they both seemed to have gained a few more! If you have read the other three novels in this series, you will enjoy the fourth and will be looking forward to the next!
Clare is being forced to leave her comfort zone faster the she wants. A ghost seer who use to be an accountant. It has been a difficult transition for her. But she has meet a wonderful man Zack. He has his own special gift that is now accepting. Now together they must find a way to cross over 2 ghosts, but there is a problem with one of them. One ghost is from today's time period and Clare can't talk to that ghost. How can she help if she can not speak to the ghost. And there is another medium in the area who is not going to let Clare handle this case. I have read all of the Ghost seer books. I like Clare and Zack but this book was just alright. I still don't like the other. Well the truth in this book I really dislike it. The relationship with Clare and Enzo is growing and so is her relationship with Zack. We also learn a little more about Zack's boss and his wife and what they can do. It was nice to see the growth in the characters but the story just did not pull me in like the others had.
This was really a 3.5 star book. I completely understand where Clare is still fighting her "gift." Heck, she has had it for less than a month. I enjoyed the closeness her and Zach have reached and that they are trying to work together. It's sweet that Clare is more bothered about the mind talking than her partner. There was some growth in the mental adjustment department on both her and Zach.
I will admit that Mrs. Flinton really made me mad at the end of the story. I would be very untrusting of someone who went behind my back and proceeded to just tell everyone and their friends about my life and abilities. And on top of it they kept a video recording of it. I really don't like her or Mr. Welliam right now and wanted to basically tell them off. Personally, if I was Clare I still would to a certain extent. They are not living HER life, she is. I really want to see Clare grow some more spine and push back at people who are really out of line. I think it would do her a great deal of good.
A big Thank you to NetGalley and Berkeley Publishing Group-Intermix for the ARC for my honest review.
I have read Robin Owens in the past but have not read the previous books in this series-this is number 4. I don't think that I lost to much from starting the series in the middle-but I am not the best to judge that part. It felt like a stand alone.
I really wanted to like this book-but found it just okay. I liked the characters Zach and Claire-and the development of their relationship. I thought that Enzo the dog was a unique and fun idea. I liked Texas Jack....but somehow it didn't click for me. It felt slow and the entire thing with Buffalo Bill was just confusing??? So interesting premise but not my cup of tea.. Don't let me put you off-the characters are great. I still say give it a try.
Some nice progress in the character growth of the protagonists. Honestly I would have been less forgiving of the side characters in that final scene. Even if she forgave them, she could have explained why what they did bothered her so they wouldn't feel it was ok to do it again in the future. That bugged me, that she swallowed her anger without communicating how upset she was and why.
Another awesome book. I love where Claire and Zach are heading relationship-wise and in growing and accepting their gifts. This was a quick, enjoyable read and I'm ready to read the next story in their journey.
Another wonderful ghost seer story. Clare is growing into her vocation and learning to embrace it. She becoming secure in herself. Jack is accepting Clare love and accepting his life as it is now.
Just loved it! They just get better & better! The interaction between Claire and the spirits keeps evolving - showing her growing control over her gift!
This series just gets better. She brings locale to life; I love how she having each character become more comfortable with themselves and each other. Bel
