The Alpha Under My Bed

Rate this book
I woke up exhausted. Sore. Spent.

But I went into my heat alone, safely locked in my nest.

Or so I thought…

I shifted, and something cold bit into my waist.

A chastity belt.

One I never put on. One I would never put on. One I couldn’t take off.

Then I saw the note.

“Don’t worry, little omega. I’ve been taking care of you for years. I wanted to make sure this heat wouldn’t go to waste.”

I thought I was terrified.

Until I found the love letters dated after every heat for the past few years and I felt the fresh bonding mark on my neck.

And then I found the polaroid—of me curled up against a masked Alpha’s chest, his arms locked tight around me, his knot keeping me flush against him. Content. Marked. Bred.

I don’t remember any of it.

But he does.

And now?

Now, he’s finally ready for me to know too.

lol this was something. I really REALLY like the premise. Have you seen the blurb? Sign me the FUCK UP.

But the execution. It was painful.

Continuity? We don't know her. Random plot holes? Ouch. The ending introduction of a secret society? The fuck.

So yeah. Downloaded for the cover, read for the intrigue, but wouldn't recommend.

so many warnings...

anyhow. It has been a while since my last Omegaverse book. forgot what a fuck up world that was. Evidently, as the warning shows, this one kinda diddled that line between right and wrong. Be prepared for that. to hate the male lead. I mean, I was ready to root for him, but then the chastity belt threw me right off. I felt the frustration and the betrayal for our girl. Man, to be manipulated that extremely... hmm, I don't know how she could forgive him. Despite the bond, I find it hard to trust the guy ever again.

Oh well. With that said, as usual, I did still enjoy the dynamic and societal worldbuilding in this one. As much as I begrudged the whole Omegaverse setting, I have to admit it is still an interesting world. One that I picked up whenever I need something dreary in my life. Plus, the smut is great! If you don't look too deep, that is.

Now, who would I recommend this to? Probably someone who likes a darker foray into romance. Someone who's okay with questionable heroes. And blurred lines. Definitely blurry 'cause I can't see shit.

If rating more than 5 stars were possible, I would. No seriously, the plot twist, the spice, the banter, the natural chemistry between the characters… ugh it’s perfect.

This has everything I was in a dark omegaverse romance. The alpha is incredibly possessive, obsessive and dominant. Though he does blindside our FMC into a bond, he does everything he can to keep his omega safe, and most importantly, he does whatever he needs to so she stays his.

If you’re looking for a possessive, obsessive knotty read with plenty of spice and plot twists… this is for you.

There’s just something about a spicy omegaverse that brings me such comfort. This one definitely delivered. The alphabet of trigger warnings was also such a fun twist. When I say alphabet, I mean literally, one for every letter.

If you’re looking just to dive into an omegaverse that’s full of claiming and knot concerned about an MMC who will just take what belongs to him, willing or not. Mal was totally unhinged and we absolutely love him for it! If you’re looking for world building and intricate plot this isn’t for you. If you’re looking to be claimed by an alpha and be forced into heat, with a secret society twist then be prepared for Malcolm because he’ll never let you go.

Mae Celeste never lets me down and this was no different, I devoured this in one sitting and it was worth every second of missed sleep.

Have you ever rage read a book?
Because I have, this one.
And it's not until I've reached the end that's when I've understood, ooooooh, it's two authors. And they didn't co-ordinate well.

I have tried to spoiler but some things may not be spoilered so SPOILERS ABOUND FROM HERE!!!!

Because why are we having glasses being mentioned as from Chapter 8 as something that Ellie uses, yet all through and even further in, they aren't mentioned? Then towards the end,

My craving for obsessed hero has been ruined. The blurb is so good, the execution of the full story not so much.

Please, when you give us a dark hero, give us a heroine with fight. Ellie was just inner monologue this, inner monologue that, oh Mal my handyman, my best friend, love of my life that I cannot tell what is going on. Sigh, life is just hard. She's just stumbling all over weak kneed.

If you ever plan to re-release this, go back and edit the book such that us as the readers,

My friend, do you know I had to take time and pause and research what female chastity belts look like? Is it the 1800s steel underpants version or is it the more advanced like g-string belt that I've now seen online? But I know it was the 1800s one you were aiming for, from the descriptions of how she couldn't get her fingers between the metal, then all of a sudden she's fine taking a shower. Did she shit? Because it's briefly mentioned how she's over the days of having the belt on, how was she shitting?!?!?!?

And that's why I'm repeating the group work needs to be fine tuned because all of a sudden we were moving from

Then Ellie works in a scent shop, we are told initially

Mal is pussy eater extraordinary, eh, he eats her up during the second/third sex scene, mask fully on, then towards the last quarter we have another pussy eating scene but now whoever was writing was conscious enough to put in and he had to move the mask like this and he had to move the mask like that. Yawa!

Then we are almost at the end, ghalfa bin vu, her boss is obsessed with her scent, a non-conformist ABO cult wants Mal to join. Eeeeeeiiiiiiiihhhhhh. Stop it. These are things to be slowly introduced in the beginning of the story, not plopped in at the end to fatten the book and then form a connection to the next book to be released in the series out of the blue.

Is there no serious police force in this ABO world? There are heat haven's, A-O matching apps but no resources for Omegas when they need help such that Ms Thing decides oh well, I'm belted in and marked, there's no point in me telling ANYONE! And where is her family?

So, in conclusion, good blurb, shit execution and Mal on top of giving GHB/rohypnol lover vibes, his aftercare was insufficient for me. Oh, and the epilogues are all from Mal's perspective which is another thing that boiled my blood.

I absolutely needed a dark unhinged romance to bring me back to life and this book did that. I believe this is my first Mae C read but I have a few books on my tbr, so I was excited to read this. It was a very fast read for me and I devoured it over night (yes I stayed up into the early morning...oops, sorry not sorry) I feel like the story flows really fast, the FMC is just a sweet innocent unknowing girl and ultimately freaks out when she starts to figure it out. I kind of wish the story was longer but I can't wait to see what the future holds for this series.

I can’t believe I read a book for its smut and ended up disappointed precisely because of that. Why include a huge list of triggers if the sex scenes are as common as possible and so many points of view are from the hero’s? 😔

And what’s the point of it being an omegaverse if their relationship just feels like the thousands of other stalker books out there?

I don’t want declarations of love from a murderous, manipulative alpha. I want to see his worst side—precisely because he’s a horrible person who forces the heroine into a dysfunctional relationship. That should mean fewer scenes of the guy praising her for being 'the only one he cares for and loves' (while he’s the one who trapped her) and more scenes from the heroine’s perspective, dealing with this degenerate, coercive sex—especially since she’s an omega. That should be the bare minimum, considering the whole story revolves around sex in an omegaverse. 😒

Malcolm was supposed to be safe. The steady presence, the beta best friend who never crossed a line and is always there for his omega best friend, Eleanor. And when Eleanor's every alpha match ends in failure and the need for a bond grows stronger, she starts leaning harder on Mal for comfort and support. But sometimes people aren't what they seem, and when Eleanor's heat hits again, everything changes. Locked into a belt, drugged, and claimed without consent, Eleanor no longer needs to search for a mate, she awakens to find herself non-consensually bound to one, a masked alpha who isn’t a stranger at all. He’s been there all along, hiding in plain sight, rewriting fate with his own hands, slowly claiming her for years. This isn’t a soft bond story, it’s about obsession disguised as loyalty, about the slow burn of deception that feels like comfort until it’s too late. It’s about control, manipulation, and the terrifying realization that love doesn’t ask for permission, some love takes what it wants. Dark, brutal, and entirely unhinged. The alpha is terrifying in the way that he doesn't even see the existence of the lines that he keeps crossing to claim his omega. Eleanor is messy, real, and pushed to her limits by a bond that shouldn't exist but won't let go. The dynamic between alpha and omega is chaos, dangerous, intimate, and strangely magnetic. Every moment escalates, from failed scent matches to forced heat, from betrayal to bloodshed. And by the time the final vow is spoken, nothing about their story feels accidental. It’s all been carved in blood and bone. Ultra-hot and steamy, dark, intense, omegaverse, exploring power, connection, trust, deception, obsession, surrender, identity, and a love that doesn’t ask for permission.

This book was intriguing.

The blurb was interesting, so I said, fuck it, let’s try it.

Then I got hit with like 1,000 chapters of blurbs, songs, and warnings, all lined up one after another. Meh. Okay.

Then the writing.

AI- 100%.

At this point, I’m so used to seeing AI writing that I can spot it from a mile away. AI uses these specific words that sound poetic but are completely empty.

Like when you’re trying to break up with your boyfriend/ girlfriend over the phone and you don’t want to hurt them.

So you write tons of emotional-sounding bullshit before finally getting to the “I’m breaking up with you.”

That’s exactly how this felt.

Honestly, I didn’t even read it until the end.

Do better.

Interesting premise but stupid execution.

Her “best friend” is a mechanic and she wakes up in a chastity belt and isn’t immediately seeking him out to remove it? Instead she wears it for a week, getting off all the time, and are we even thinking of hygiene issues?

Nope, he goes down on her the second it comes off. That would be utterly rank. Then he cums inside her and puts it back on. Then she goes to the mechanic finally but breaks down hugging him, wakes up at his place the next day and the first words out of her mouth are not “get me out of this thing”. How is this not the only thing she is talking to him about?

Unhinged Alpha MMC? Yes please! This book was so easy to read, I was totally sucked into the story. Our FMC Ellie is actually so likeable and sweet Jesus our MMC, Mal, 😍😍 I loved him from the moment he was introduced. He was 100% all about Ellie and will quite literally kill anyone he has to to make her his.

If totally unhinged men are your think, you won’t regret reading this.

As an unmated Omega, Ellie is beyond done with enduring heat cycles alone. Desperate for her fated mate and a shot at happiness, she turns to cutting-edge scent-matching tech. Unfortunately, every promising lead ends in a no-show. Thank goodness for her loyal best friend Mal—always there to comfort her when things fall apart. She’s been nursing a secret crush on him for years, but alas, he’s a Beta, and by all rules of biology, he can’t meet her Omega needs. Or so she thought…
Just when the story seems to be coasting along a familiar path, it takes a hard left into the shadows. Mal, the ever-dependable Beta, suddenly flips the script—and the dynamic—by revealing he’s actually an Alpha. Not just that, but the Alpha who's been secretly helping Ellie through her heats. Cue the whiplash. While I could (somewhat reluctantly) accept Mal’s hidden role in her past, what truly unsettled me was his complete disregard for consent. He doesn’t just take what he wants, he decides it’s time to fully claim her, but does so behind a mask, leaving her terrified, confused, and—quite literally—locked into a bond she didn’t choose. Consent, apparently, is not part of Mal’s vocabulary. Ellie’s panic, confusion, her loss of agency—I felt all of it. The imagery of the chastity belt, the forced claiming, her Alpha’s mysterious identity... it was dark, intense, and deeply uncomfortable at times. And yet, I kept reading. Despite my misgivings about Mal (seriously, so many red flags), I couldn’t look away. That said, Ellie’s obliviousness to Mal’s identity stood out as oddly inconsistent. For someone who works with scents and has been around Mal for years, it seemed unbelievable she didn’t put two and two together sooner. On a brighter note, the story does play with interesting themes—challenging the idea of scent-matching, and questioning whether Omegas and Alphas can ever truly choose their mates. Mal’s obsession is extreme, but his devotion is undeniable. There’s something compelling—if deeply problematic—about the lengths he’ll go to keep Ellie by his side. Then came the curveballs. The late introduction of “The Chosen” and the twist with Claudia felt a bit crammed in, the first like setup for the next book rather than a satisfying wrap-up. It left things feeling a little rushed and unbalanced. In the end, this isn't your average Omegaverse romance—it’s darker, more twisted, and definitely not for the faint of heart. If you’re new to dark romance, you might want to tread carefully. But if you’re ready to dive headfirst into the morally gray (okay, mostly black) waters, then all I can say is – welcome to the dark side!.

Dark omegaverse with a manipulative male lead who deceives the female lead to bond with her.

I liked that the male lead was possessive of the female lead. So possessive he’d kill anyone in their way, he takes all precautions to prevent the anyone scenting the female lead and was always laying the ground work so that she eventually claims him back.

Unfortunately I was disappointed by everything else. The main leads were just OK for me. I wasn’t all that interested in them, it was the alpha/omega dynamics that kept me reading - not the plot or dark romance. The writing style wasn’t for me either, the smut didn’t feel spicy, I wasn’t feeling their chemistry and the male lead didn’t feel swoonworthy despite me usually loving manipulative MMCs in dark romance.

I considered 3 stars but the plot was from the 75% mark was really weird and made me want to DNF.

The destroying of Julian Cross’s pack came out of nowhere and felt unnecessary. Why did Julian bother coming back? Why does he care whether Malcolm comes back to his pack or not?

And Claudia kidnapping the female lead also felt so random and illogical. Trying to create an omega pheromone perfume? I didn’t get the significance of it that it’d be worth kidnapping someone for. And surely there were plenty of omegas who would agree to experiments with payment. The perfume business didn’t seem lucrative enough that Claudia would have beta guards hired to protect a warehouse. Why does Claudia even have a warehouse?

And the chosen club? Also unnecessary and came out of nowhere. How did the chosen club find out about Malcolm? Why would Malcolm bother joining it? What does joining it involve?

All of these tempted me between a 1-2 star. Wouldn’t reread

Kindle (ARC) - this dark shifter romance starts with Eleanor (Ellie) and her best friend and neighbor Malcom (Mal) who both have feelings for one another that go unspoken and hidden. Mal, an Aloha disguised as a Beta with scent blockers has been servicing Ellie during her heat cycles for the past 3 years unbeknownst to Ellie, and during her latest heat, he can’t hold back his claim on her any longer. Mal and Ellie have a lot to work through and the author does a decent job portraying the devastation, heart ache and betrayal along with side plots with former packs and bosses interfering with evil intent. The epilogue ends with a cliff hanger preparing the reader for the next book in the series, leaving the reader wondering what this new ‘pack’ hold in store for both Mal and Ellie.

The characters and their arch’s are interesting, the writing is easy to read and the storyline sucks one in making this a quick easy dark romance read. There is also a nice glossary of terms to help new fantasy readers into the shifter terminology.

Though this is a shifter novel, there is no actual shifting that occurs or mention of their animal outside of the heat, nearing, and knotting. This may come in the next novel now that Mal and Ellie are more settled within their binding claims.

I love a good a/b/o romance, and just the blurb had me hooked. This plot is everything! Basically this mysterious alpha has been “taking care” of her during her heats for years but she doesn’t know yet. Then after one of her heats, she finds out about this mysterious alpha, who has come out of hiding to stake his claim. This alpha is not just dark, he’s pitch black, you have been warned. And there’s lots of dubcon and somnophilia. I love the whole beta, but secretly an alpha thing. I also love it in dark romances where she thinks she’s with two guys, but actually they’re just one! She can’t make herself choose but then realises that she doesn’t need to. I had some minor problems with how Ellie was portrayed though, she’s such a flat character. All she does, is swoon over Mal and then complain and cry about her mystery alpha. And her reaction during the big reveal was honestly just boring. I also don’t get how she wants him so bad one second but then pushes him away the next. Like I get she was in heat but that isn’t a complete personality change. Also the last 25% was done not very well, the first 75% had so much tension and built up the climax but then suddenly everything was so rushed. Like the stuff about Claudia and the chosen ones should have been given a bit more backstory because they came out of nowhere. But I will give this a ⅘ purely for Mal because I love him.

🏴 Omegaverse
🏴 Dark Romance
🏴 Masked Stalker Alpha
🏴 Plus Size Omega
🏴 Touch Her and ☠️
🏴 Chastity Belt
🏴 Rejecting Fate

Ellie is an Omega without a pack, struggling through her heats with suppressants, while trying to find a pack of her own. After being harshly dismissed from the pack she wished to join she has some confidence issues. But while she matches with Alphas on the Compatibility app, they always end up ghosting her. Weird. She finds comfort in her friend and neighbour Mal, a Beta who takes care of her and is obviously smitten with her.

Soon she finds herself caught up with a masked stalker alpha, who drugs her so she won't recall his "helping" her through her heats. She only remembers this when he leaves a polaroid and a letter, as well as a chastity belt locked tight. Cue a delightfully devious series of games, edging and dominance. Be prepared to not like this Alpha at times, he steps over the line so many times, but the twists keep coming. I'm not opposed to a totally unhinged book boyfriend so this was quite entertaining.

The trigger warnings list is basically a chapter of its own, there are so many. Honestly not too out of the ordinary for a dark romance omegaverse but check it just in case. This is my first read from Mae Celeste and I quite enjoyed it, I'll definitely be looking for more from this author.

A Dark and Addictive Read – 4 Stars

The Alpha Under My Bed by Mae Celeste is an intense, gripping Omegaverse romance that pulls you in from the very first page. It’s dark, obsessive, and emotionally charged—definitely not for the faint of heart.

The story follows Eleanor, a girl who has spent her life hiding from a dangerous world, only to realize the monster she fears has been watching her all along. Mal, the possessive and dangerously unhinged Alpha, is obsessed with her in a way that’s both terrifying and deeply compelling. Their dynamic is full of tension, and the psychological depth of their relationship makes it hard to put the book down.

Mae Celeste’s writing is atmospheric and fast-paced, with moments that make your heart race. That said, some parts feel a bit rushed, and I would have loved more time to explore the emotional impact of certain scenes. But overall, if you love dark romance, possessive heroes, and high-stakes tension, this book is an absolute page-turner.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely—just be ready for a wild ride.

I'll be honest I didn't think to read the blurb. This was my third Mae book and I loved the previous 2 so just didn't think. I'm not gonna lie it took me a minute to get into it. The whole beta, alpha & omega thing is fairly new too me. All in it was a good book once I got into but that is 100% my fault for picking up an omegaverse book not knowing what that was.

I think for me it clicked around when Ellie woke up locked up I might have to go looking for more book with that in it.

I really liked Mal and his 2 sides especially since both sides were all about Ellie. Although i'm not sure he should be taking trophy's from crime scene and gifting them to her. That just makes her an accessory after the fact. Especially when she has a link to the victim.

I liked that Mal didn't let fate dictate who he should be with he chose because of love and I think i've read one to many dark romance because I found that super sweet.

I would love to find out what happens with Mal and Ellie and the chosen.

Just finished The Alpha Under My Bed by Mae Celeste and… wow. Talk about waking up in the deepest kind of oh-shit moment. Our omega finds herself locked in a chastity belt she never put on, complete with a note saying, “Don’t worry, little omega. I’ve been taking care of you for years.” Add in love letters after every heat, a fresh bonding mark on her neck, and a Polaroid of herself, marked and connected to a masked Alpha—who remembers everything she has no memory of? Yeah, this one is twisted beautiful.

This is dark fantasy at its finest—blending suspense, forced intimacy, and ‘I don’t remember this… but he does’ obsession. The way Mae Celeste draws you into that swirl of mystery and primal pull? Addictive as hell. It’s short but packs every emotional punch, leaving you breathless, mind spinning, and absolutely wanting more. Love that blend of power dynamics, suspenseful memory gaps, and the wild chemistry of a bond you can’t explain—only surrender to.

oh Mal

When you look up obsessed… Mals face is what you should see. The long game that man played… he knew Ellie was his longggg before she did and man did he use his knowledge wisely and to his advantage. He never wavered. He knew he was going to make her his no matter what or who came along the way. This story definitely had me intrigued because of the whole belt thing but also because the twist on chosen mate bonds. Especially when you’re put in the situation of being in the same room as a scent match but fighting your biology so hard because that’s not who you want to be with. Poor Ellie wasn’t prepared for everything she was going to go through… it changed her and made her realize stuff she had hidden deep down in her heart. I’m definitely intrigued by this universe.

I’ve never really gotten into the omega verse. But Mae Celeste did not disappoint me with this one. It kept my attention and I couldn’t put it down.

It’s about Malcom who was thought as a Beta but turns out to be an alpha. He becomes obsessed with his best friend Ellie who was an omega. Well she was in love with him and never told him because they were best friends and she was afraid of being rejected. But little did she know that Mal was in love with her too. He starts doing things that she didn’t know about but kept his composure so she doesn’t suspect anything.

What would happen if she found out what’s really going on and who he really is. Will she accept her fate and be claimed by her alpha or will she be overlooked once again?
