Norway, 1951: ‘I need you to know how much I love you, Amalie. I never wanted us to be parted, and I will do whatever it takes to come back to you and our baby. Please wait for me.’

London, present Everything in Charlotte’s life is about to change. As she clutches a small box in her palm containing a diamond ring and a Norwegian crest, she knows she must return home to be reunited with her beloved great-grandmother Amalie and her Norwegian family.

Accepting her dream job as a head chef at Norway’s most prestigious hotel, Charlotte is welcomed by the hotel’s head designer, Harrison. For years, Charlotte sacrificed everything for her career. As she tours her new surroundings with Harrison, she soon starts to see a way of focussing on her heart too.

But when Charlotte takes the box to Amalie, everything Charlotte thought she knew about her family changes in an instant. As Amalie clutches the ring that she thought had vanished forever, she reveals a tragic love story and a precious secret that stayed buried for years.

When Charlotte discovers the huge sacrifice Amalie made to keep her family safe, will it give Charlotte the strength she needs to follow her heart? Or will she leave Norway forever?

An utterly heart-warming and stunning story about the importance of following your heart and never being afraid to find your new beginning. Perfect for fans of Santa Montefiore, Lucinda Riley and Victoria Hislop.

I received a copy for review purposes. All opinions are honest and mine alone.

Amalie is a maid at the finest hotel in Oslo, Norway. Oskar works in the kitchen. They are deeply in love but his family takes every opportunity to keep them apart. What results is one half of this dual timeline, multi POV story that starts in 1950 and progresses to modern day.

Charlotte is a chef in London and Amalie’s great granddaughter. She’s been given an opportunity to be executive chef at a new, world class hotel in Oslo. She meets Harrison, the architect for the impressive building, while in Norway interviewing for the job and seeing her great grandmother in a hospice care facility. They are drawn towards each other but both have painful memories complicating a new relationship. This is the second half, current timeline of THE HIDDEN DAUGHTER.

Character development and relationships are two of author, Soraya Lane’s, strongest skills. From early in the first chapter, I found it easy to feel the love, longing, fear, hope and desires of these realistic characters. Two couples are primary in the story but the secondary characters are also well established and fill out the storylines well. Amalie’s mother-in-law is one of these characters that is incredibly complex. She evolves throughout the story from antagonist to becoming self aware enough to salvage her family. This part of the story was an intricate, three generations of mothers and daughters; done exceptionally well and far from the usual.

Dialogue is another high point for Lane. It’s unique to each character and moves the story forward nicely. Rounding out the positive aspects is the lovely, descriptive prose. I’ve never been to Norway nor seen a fjord but after reading this book, there’s no doubt in my mind I’d recognize a photograph of one.

“Some things are just never meant to be forgotten” - Amalie whispers this to Charlotte, after receiving the little box she’d left at Hope’s House many years ago. That’s true of of this book, the series and what I hope/believe the subject of the finale of the series will be - a story about the character, Hope.

THE HIDDEN DAUGHTER - not to be forgotten📚

My new favorite book. This story was incredible moving as the past comes to meet the present and all the lives touched.

The Hidden Daughter
By: Soraya M. Lane

A dual time line and a hidden secret come to light in the next novel of Soraya M. Lane, The Lost Daughter series. I have read this entire series and they are all amazing, but this is my favorite.

Present day London finds Charlotte discovering a box which will unlock the past. She travels to her great-grandmother Amalie and the rest of her Norwegian family. Amalie finds the articles in the box and begins to share her story.

Charlotte is a chef and she gets this dream job. When she arrives, she meets Harrison who is the designer for the hotel she will be working out. Sparks happen, but obstacles might keep them apart.
This one tugs at your heart and pulls you in right away. The relationships, struggles, sacrifices and words were heartfelt and I was immersed in their story.

Thank you Bookouture for having me on tour.

1951: A chef of one of the most luxurious hotels of the time. And a future full of uncertainties. It tells the story of Amalie.

Present Day: Charlotte is hired as a chef in her hometown of Oslo. In the city she once longed to escape, her path forward will open up doors long forgotten and closed.

~

In my opinion, this installment in the Lost Daughters Series has the most soul to it.
The descriptions of the beautiful land of Norway is alone worth the full read.

Lane is one author you can count on to deliver emotional punches without doubt.

I'm really looking forward to Hope and Mia's story, I think it'll be the last one!

Another great installment in The Lost Daughter series by Soraya Lane.

The Hidden Daughterl follows a dual-timeline story centred on long-buried family secrets, where a contemporary search for identity is intertwined with a historical love story. As the past is slowly uncovered through letters, places, and inherited objects, the connections between generations begin to make sense. The story leans into romance, loss, and the way choices echo forward in time.

I loved this. It is very much in the Lucinda Riley mould, in the best possible way. An easy, immersive read that is emotionally satisfying without being heavy, and one I found genuinely captivating once I settled into it. Perfect comfort reading that still delivers on heart.

The 7th book in the Lost Daughters series is a must read. It’s very moving and emotional. A captivating family saga set in Norway with plenty of drama and heartache. There’s two wonderful stories linked together across the years and generations, told as a dual timeline, starting in 1950 with Amalie and Oskar. The present day story starts in London, but continues in Oslo, with Charlotte, a chef, and Harrison, an architect. Highly recommend.

I absolutely adore the Lost Daughter series. Soraya Lane continues to impress, inspire and stir up my emotions every time I read one of her books, and this one really captured and, at times, shattered my heart. I was deeply invested in the characters’ lives and their challenges. I felt their disappointments and losses. Many moments I had tears in my eyes. This is an incredibly moving novel and one I will not forget. I think it is my favourite of the Lost Daughter series (though I’ve loved them all).

The Hidden Daughter is set mostly in the beautiful country of Norway with stunning descriptions of the breathtaking fjords. There are two timelines with Amalie in both. The story of her life, her tragic romance and what follows over the years. Charlotte, her great niece, shares the plotline of the present and helps with the unravelling of the past. She is a renowned chef who has been living in London. When she left her birth home in Norway to pursue her dreams, she was also fleeing her father’s expectations and control. A rift had developed between them after her mother’s sudden departure. Charlotte never saw her father for eight years but stayed in contact with her brother, the surgeon (who followed in their father’s professional footsteps).

Charlotte receives a call from her grandmother that a special mystery item is to be dropped off to her, so when it arrives she opens the small box to find a diamond ring, a Norwegian crest and a photo within. Her grandmother suspects the items hold a family mystery and this leads Charlotte to consider going home for a visit. This trip is two-fold in purpose as she also must explore a new job offer, at a new prestigious Norwegian hotel. So her return to Norway is both professional and personal as it also allows her to re-unite with her grandmother and great grandmother Amalie. And possibly provide the chance to see her father again after eight years of silence. Maybe it is time to make amends as her brother has often encouraged her to do?

While in Norway, she meets the architect of the new hotel and an unexpected spark happens between them. Harrison is charming and well-liked by the Hotel owner. But he burns hot and cold around Charlotte sending her confusing signals. Charlotte has kept her heart guarded due to some past events but once meeting Harrison, she cannot help her attraction and comfortableness in his presence and lets down her defences. But will this sudden relaxed attitude lead to more hurt or healing? Will navigating her executive chef dream job and romantic relationship at the same time become too much? Maybe but her trip home will give her precious time with her grandmother and also her great grandmother who has a tragic romantic story to tell. Charlotte will learn many great lessons from talking to Amalie that will guide her through her own personal and professional dramas.

Unveiling secrets of the past from Amalie in the 1950s and onwards was intriguing. This generational tangled plot sees the women and men of both eras bound and then freed. One reminder surfaced that we never know how much time we will have with our loved ones and it is best not to procrastinate but rather mend fences while we can. For one day it may be too late. This story also deals with the dire consequences of class snobbery. Views on status differences and expectations can cause great damage, and it did particularly in the 1950s.

I was very moved by Amalie’s story. Learning about her struggles in the past timeline, certainly squeezed my heart and the tissue box was used readily! What that woman endured was sad but her strength and determination to continue after all she lost was admirable. As a result of her willingness to adapt and move in an unexpected direction for the love of her child, she gained so much—that resulted in a happy life.

This is a beautifully written, uplifting, inspiring story about sacrifice, motherhood, family, second chances, maturity, reunions and so much more. The characters are complex, real and perfectly developed. Their growth is easily seen over the course of the plot. They face challenges, fears and have set-backs but eventually rise from the ashes of their trials to learn, love and let-go. The descriptions are vivid and the dialogue revealing. Soraya is a great story teller in all areas but she is particularly a master of conveying emotion. So often my heart was bursting at the seams with various feelings while I was immersed in The Hidden Daughter.

I truly loved this touching novel and look forward to the next instalment. Do yourselves a favour and read it! But keep the tissues close at hand—you’ll need them! There is heartbreaking sadness but also triumphant joy. 5 Stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Another winner for Soraya M. Lane.

This book takes you through three generations. It's very heart wrenching and promising all at once. A love story for the ages. Two love stories actually. Both interconnected and both just as touching.

When Charlotte's grandmother calls her and tells her there will be something delivered to her Charlotte has no idea how much her life is going to change. Charlotte is a Chef at a very prestigious hotel in London. It's her last night and she is making a special dinner for her co-workers. She is also to be met by Mia. Mia is the woman who is bringing her a delivery. Meant for her grandmother but accepting for her.

In 1950 things were a bit different for females. In Norway a young couple meet and fall deeply in love. Oskar and Amalie. They met at the hotel Oskar's parents own. Oskar is from a very rich and influential family. Amalie's family have no money. They are hard workers but of very meager means. When Amalie finds herself in the family way she is frightened. Not of how Oskar will react. How his family will take it. How her family will take it.

Charlotte and Harrison meet when Charlotte goes to Norway to check out another Chef's position. This time at a brand new hotel that has not even opened yet. Harrison designed this one and the owner wanted Charlotte as the head Chef. Of course they meet and fall head over heels in love. But things are not so smooth.

You get to know the characters in this story well. You may not like some, at least one, at first. But most are great. The two love stories are perfection. Yes the one between Amalie and Oskar is so sad. The love between Charlotte and Harrison is not perfect either. This is one of those books that you have to put down so your eyes can recoup. At least I did. I cried so much reading this story. Sad tears and happy tears. Some angry tears too. It's just a great story that will keep you filled with so much hope for both couples. For all the family members.

I can't wait for the nest book. I've been wanting to know Hope's story and if you've read any of this series you know who Hope is.

Thank you Bookouture and Soraya Lane for this ARC.

The Hidden Daughter by Soraya Lane is the seventh book of The Lost Daughters Series. The series will consist of eight books and will soon come to a conclusion. Now is the time to start binge reading if that is what you like to do. I will be sad to see this series end. It has been very enjoyable. I think I have a couple of books to go back and read because life has gotten in my way a bit. Let me tell you what I love most about this series.

First of all, each book is a story unto itself and can be read as a standalone book. The common thread is a little box of mementos that a mother has left behind for her daughter when she is grown. The daughters are ones that are adopted out because the mother was not able to care for their baby for one reason or another.

The second thing I like is that each book takes place in a different country. You get fabulous descriptions of the surroundings. You learn a little of the culture. I love learning about things in a fun way and this is definitely a fun way to learn a little bit of each country. This book was about Norway. That really grabbed my interest since my Grandmother was born there and came to the United States with her mother and sister when she was six years old.

The mother in this story is about Amelie and her daughter’s name is Aina. Charlotte is the character in the book that received the little wooden box and was prompted to go back home to Norway. She is Aina’s granddaughter. The chapters rotate between 1950 in Norway and the present day. This book tells the story of the whole family and what they have all been through in the last 75 years. It was so good and had me in tears more than once.

If you love wonderful family saga’s and travels to different countries, I highly recommend The Lost Daughter Series. The Hidden Daughter is one of my favorite books so far in the series. They certainly deserve a spot on your nightstand especially if you love Historical Romance. Until next time…Happy Reading!

I have read all the books in this series and can’t wait for the final book with Hope’s story - hopefully it will tie up the loose ends hinted at in The Hidden Daughter.

As with the other books this is a dual timeline story but differs in that the baby wasn’t put up for adoption and the modern day character- Charlotte - knew her great- grandmother.

This book was set partly in London and mostly in Oslo Norway - with added Fjords.

In some ways this was predictable and followed the previous books in the series. Love resulting in a baby - often outside wedlock - and a relative of that baby receiving a box from Hope and Hope’s House containing mementoes of that relationship. Charlotte rushes back to her grandmother and the thought of a new job as an executive chef in an executive new hotel in Oslo. Of course she meets the love of her life, for one reason or another they part then later they reconcile.
Much the pattern of the previous books

But nevertheless less an enjoyable read - heartbreaking, romantic and thought provoking. In some ways an easy read which sometimes one wants and this fitted the bill.

I won’t give too many details because it would be easy to give the storyline away completely. It can be read as a stand-alone but I recommend reading the whole delightful series.

Really looking forward to book 8 and the secrets Hope holds.

The Hidden Daughter is the seventh book in Soraya Lane's Lost Daughters series and I was positively thrilled when NetGalley sent me an ARC to read and review (and yes, I did the happy dance!) All of the books in the series begin with someone - in this case, Charlotte, a chef living in London but a native of Norway - getting a phone call from someone named Mia who was cleaning out her deceased aunt's Hope's home in London. Her Aunt Hope had run Hope's House, a home for unwed mothers or mothers in need, where they could live comfortably to await the birth of their children. Mia said she had found little boxes labeled with names on them and one of the boxes was for Charlotte's grandmother. Opening that box led to their family learning the truth of her great grandmother Amalie's past. A dual timeline story, the tale unfolds in two voices - that of Charlotte in the present day and that of Amalie in the 1950s in Norway. No spoilers - but I will say that the story had the happy ending that I love so much - and also gave a clue that there may be more Lost Daughters books coming! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This entire series has been unique because each individual story stands out.
Charlotte is estranged from her father and has been gone too long from her grandmother.
The box’s clues open up avenues of healing for both Charlotte and her family.
I love that most of the story is in Norway.
Lots of bumps and barricades to overcome but the ending is well worth it.
Thanks Bookouture and NetGalley for the advance read.

Charlotte holds in the palm of her hand a small box containing a diamond ring and a Norwegian crest.  She must return home to see her great-grandmother Amalie and the rest of her family. Charlotte has accepted her dream job as head chef at Norway’s most prestigious hotel.

She soon meets Harrison, a designer at the hotel.  He begins to show Charlotte the beauty of Norway she left behind a long time ago. Could this be the trip home for so many reasons including finding her happily ever after?

Charlotte returns the small box to Amalie.  Amalie thought the ring had been lost forever.  As Amalie begins to tell Charlotte of a love story and a never spoken of secret, she begins to question everything she knew about her family.

“The Hidden Daughter” by Soraya Lane is a wonderful and heartwarming tale of years gone by and the hope tomorrow holds. This amazing time slip novel was completely captivating.  I was totally enthralled with this masterpiece of story.

This story is both heartbreaking and intriguing as I flipped through the page I couldn’t stop for even a second.  I devoured this amazing book filled with characters I loved and felt a connection to.  This brilliantly authored story is one that will resonate in my heart for a very long time.  I highly recommend this ten star read.

The seventh in the author’s “Lost Daughters Series,” this book did not disappoint although the story is somewhat predictable from previous books. Unlike the other stories, this lost daughter was not put up for adoption in 1950, but grew up with her own family and present-day Charlotte knew her own great-grandmother, Amalie. Once Charlotte receives the mystery box that Amalie had left at Hope’s House, she returns home to Oslo to uncover family secrets and to take a chance at a new life there. The story is beautifully written with well-developed characters who experience romance, heartbreak, challenges, obstacles, sacrifice and fulfillment. It’s a wonderful, emotional book that I could hardly put down.
At the end, Charlotte reflects, “Mia hadn’t been lying when she’d said the little box bearing her great-grandmother’s name might just change her life.”
I’m looking forward to the final installment, where Mia, the niece of Hope’s House founder, tells the whole story.

The seventh book in the series with only one left! Such an adorable read. Charlotte is an amazing chef from London who goes back home to Oslo, Norway for a job opportunity. Her grandmother lives there which helps too and so does her estranged dad and great grandmother whose story we come to learn about.
She meets Harrison the architect of the hotel she will be working at as the chef and of course they fall in love. I really don’t like the abruptness in which Harrison ran off but at least he came back.

Charlotte’s great grandmother Amalie has a beautiful and sad story of her first love Oskar and finding out the family secrets was a great way to spend time with family. I definitely had a feeling about Oskar and his brother and I’m so glad I was right.

I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend The Lost Daughters series. Each book has a box that was found at Hope’s House and a relative finds them wanting to return them to their rightful owners. All for every relative to learn their great grandparent was adopted. Very interesting with a lot of heartbreak. I need The Last Daughter!

Wonderful Series

Really enjoyed this book. Charlotte and Harrison were meant to be. Such a story on how Charlottes great grandmother held a secret for many years from her daughter and great grand daughter. This book really makes me want to visit parts of Norway and see some of the sights written about in this book. I can't wait for last book in this series to be released.

This book was wonderful! Author Soraya Lane has a way to bring emotion to her characters that I can feel through the pages of the book. The journey of Charlotte and Harrison was relatable, as well as the relationship Charlotte had with her father was believable.

I have read four of the seven books in this series and absolutely MUST purchase the other books to read before the final book is published!

Amalie is a maid in a big hotel in Norway. It’s the 1950s and Amalie falls in love with Oskar, the son of the hotel’s owners. Oskar wants to become a chef, but he has to take over the family business.

In London, in the present time, Charlotte is leaving her job as a chef. When Charlotte is handed a small box, which belongs to her great grandmother, she knows it’s time to finally head back home to Oslo, to find out the secrets surrounding Amalie. After being head-hunted for a new hotel opening up, Charlotte meets the architect, Harrison, and they start seeing each other. There is a sadness to Harrison, but she doesn’t know why.

As Charlotte takes the box to Amalie, Charlotte learns the truth about Amalie’s life. Amalie made the ultimate sacrifice, but it’s left Charlotte and her nan torn over the secrets that are now coming to light.

This is a tale that highlights strong women, and how well they can cope with what life throws at them.

Told over two timelines, I enjoyed going back in time to learn about Amalie’s life, and to see just how different things were back then.

I loved visiting the fjords through the eyes of Amalie and Charlotte, being a part of their world at different times, I felt privileged to learn their story.

This is an author whose stories I enjoy reading. I get lost in the world she creates with her words.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

“I need you to know how much I love you, Amalie. I never wanted us to be parted, and I will do whatever it takes to come back to you and our baby. Please wait for me.”

I love this series! This is a beautifully written story in dual timeline. Charlotte is an up and coming executive chef. She left her home in Norway for London to pursue her love of cooking.
Charlotte gets a phone call from Mia who has found a little box with her grandmother’s name on it. Mia’s Aunt Hope ran Hope’s House a place where unwed mothers could have a place to live as they awaited the birth of their baby.
When Charlotte opens the box it is the beginning of learning the truth about her great grandmother Amalie’s past. A first love that will always hold that special place in Amalie’s heart.
A multigenerational love story, so much family heartbreak, sacrifices, so many struggles. This story really pulled me in from the beginning. Will pull at your heartstrings.
Have tissues close.

This was the seventh book in this series and I enjoyed it immensely. Set In Norway in 1951, Amalie falls in love with Oskar but his family has other plans for him. When she discovers she is expecting his baby, he sends her to London with plans to meet and marry. Tragedy strikes and she finds herself alone and expecting. What will she do? Present day her great-granddaughter has just moved back to Oslo and searches for the truth about her beloved Amalie, while forging her own path as a chef. She finds love and there are lessons to be learned that tie these women together.

I love Soraya’s books. She is one of my favorite historical fiction authors. Every time I know she has a new book coming out I try to grab an early copy or line it up through Amazon so I can read it on Kindle Unlimited.

The Lost Daughters series has been wonderful. I love that the women in these books are from all over. A home for unwed mothers that has had its impact on so many. A lot of books I’ve read about homes for unwed mothers have been negative. This series is not like that. Yes, some of the women ended up at Hope’s House for unhappy reasons, like Amalie, but Hope was able to help her and all the young women.

I love Charlotte’s POV. She is so determined to put all the pieces together after she receives her great grandmother’s package from her time at Hope’s House. Being able to hear it directly from Amalie makes the story that much more powerful.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy of this book.

The Hidden Daughter written by Soraya Lane is a dual timeline which no one writes better than this author. Norway in 1951 and London, England in present time had two women at crossroads in their lives. The theme of following your heart which means a balance between career and love in the present context is not lost on the reader. The development of the two main couple is full of emotional tug-of-war between longings, desires, love against fear and loss. As usual there is strong character change in the main present day female Charlotte examines the past that kept secret from her. Sometimes secrets and sacrifices are necessary at the time but now it is time for the revealing. A heartrending story of love for family and true love.

Other dual-timeline books can get messy and confusing, but this book changed between timelines effortlessly. I felt like the changes in perspective were well thought out and were timed perfectly to help the story unfold.

I am so excited for book 8 to finally hear Hope’s story!

Beautiful story

This is another story that begins when a descendant gets one of the boxes left at Hope's home for unwed mothers. Amalie, the person who put the mementos in the box, is still alive and tells her story to her daughter and her great granddaughter that she did not give up her baby Although this is a series, each book is a stand-alone and can be read in any order.
