An act of terrorism or a case of murder at the high school? Local cop Lucinda Pierce battles the FBI and Homeland Security for her right to figure it out.
One quiet Sunday morning, homicide investigator Lucinda Pierce is called to the scene after a bomb blast rocks a high school, killing a janitor and an unidentified student. But, much to her annoyance, Lucinda is pulled off the case and the FBI and Homeland Security take over. While they seem determined to prove it was an act of terrorism, Lucinda is convinced otherwise and pursues her own investigation—along with FBI agent Jake Lovett, who believes she may be right.
When another high school pupils body is discovered—a possible suicide—Lucinda is convinced she is pursuing the right path to uncovering the motivations of the bomber. However, will the competing agencies ever acknowledge her convictions and allow her to solve the case?
This is the seventh book in the critically acclaimed Lucinda Pierce Mysteries by Edgar Awardwinning true-crime writer Diane Fanning.
I did not know that this book was part of a series - A Lucinda Pierce Homicide Investigation. I liked the character only I prefer to read series in the order they are written. I hope that my local library will be able to figure out which book came first and I can read some of the earlier books about Lucinda Pierce.
A multilayered mystery with many twist and red herrings. Parallel investigations offer contrasting dual agency theory and style. You will become invested in the characters even the villains. A mystery readers mystery as even the minor characters venture forth to add another facet to the story. Will not disappoint.
“Chain Reaction” is a good mystery with police procedures and interagency interaction. While it is one of a series, recurring characters are brought in easily so first time Lucinda Pierce series readers are pulled into the lives of these lively, dynamic characters.
