Malcom had much to live for including being second in command of his wolf pack and a future match with the leader’s sister. But, of course, love said no way and he fell for a human. Punished and sentenced to exile by the vindictive leader of the pack, Malcom heads out alone. Living a solitary life until he finds comfort in a family owned bed and breakfast, his exile comes to a quick end when he seeks out revenge for their death and on the request of someone from his past.

Malcom heads out to find the vampire he once saved and had a steamy, forbidden night with. Thus begins the love hexagon. Mwaha! In between Malcom getting involved with trying to save his previous pack and prevent an all out war between wolves, vampires, and wolves against their own kind, Malcom leaves a string of panting female hearts. Vampire, human, wolf…

Malcom is one tough, yet compassionate cookie with a lot of baggage. Malcom is confronted with the insane Vincent, death, and his past. And having sexy time… lots of sexy time… with different people. Like I said, there is a love hexagon, but it meshes with the story and doesn’t detract from the story. Malcom is an easily likeable hero and the storyline and paranormal world building create a nice back drop. I did eventually shake my fist at Malcom, ready for him to finally choose SOMEONE and stop messing around, and he did. A nice surprise, though daunting task for our hairy hero to complete ties up the story.

Note: The author provided an ARC ecopy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This affected my review in no way. :)

Received a copy for an honest review.
Review on behalf of Wolfie's Fantasy Book Blog.

Malcolm is Beta who was exiled by his Alpha Vincent for falling in love with human. After years on the run he is still hunted. He seeks the help of Vampire Mara to try to save his pack from an unstable leader.

I found it quite difficult to get into this story, it was very slow to start with. It jumps between past and present and it was quite confusing. It caused me to lose focus on the actual story at times. Interaction and dialoque between characters is a bit repetitive and frustrating. I feel some parts of the story were left unfinished, for example we don't know how did Malcolm meet Serene? Did he tell her he was a werewolf? What happened to her in the end?

On the plus side I did enjoy the twists and turns, where I thought the ending was predictable it ended completely different and kept me on my toes. The story got quite emotional and intense towards the end.

This book is worth a read as everyone enjoys different styles of writing and has a great Werewolf/Vampire interaction story.

This is a very interesting story that kept me wanting to keep picking the book up because I HAD to know what happened next! The start of the book is very slow in my opinion ,but don't allow that to stop you from continuing to read past this because it will be well worth the slow paced start! I Loved the depth of feelings that were detailed to allow me to be more into and involved with the story line.I can NOT wait for book 2 of the ALPHA series to come out! Looking forward to reading more into there world! Thank you Jessica Cage for sharing your work and introducing me to your books and a storyline that is not the same old same old! I Look forward to reading more of Jessica's work and Highly recommend this story to anyone who loves Paranormal reading as much as I do.. With this book you can look forward to a TRUE story being told that incudes a wonderful range of characters that are explained who they are and where they come from, add sense of humor some action, and what good is it without a few steamy parts?!? Hopefully this is just the start of series about the other characters in the book because this left me wanting to know THERE story as well! I think I have a new writer to add to my favorites!!

In a werewolf pack, the Alpha's word is law, even when that word is to order the excommunication of his second in command.

Malcolm, said Beta, is now on the run, hunted by other members of his old pack, and it's now informed that Vincent, his ex-Alpha, has truly lost his mind, and even locks up his very own sister!

Calling on an old favor, Malcolm must decide if he can help the pack that, just a day ago, had waned to kill him. And what role, exactly, will the werewolves' mortal enemies, the vampires, play in this?

In an exciting filled with danger and sex, what we really have, when we boil it all down, is a story about a man in love. It's a modern-day Romeo and Juliet, because the woman whom Malcolm loved was a human, not a paranormal creature, and they weren't allowed to be together.

It's sad and even a little moving, and a great backstory to a thrilling paranormal ride created by Ms. Jessica Cage.

I liked Mara the best, and hope that a sequel is written from the point of view of the vampires!

Good characters and even better potential for many more books to be written! This is a great story with a lot of thought put into it.

5/5--great potential!

I am giving this review for author Jessica Cage. This is book 1 of the book series The Alphas by the author.

Malcom had lost everything. His pack, his alpha and his human partner, Serene when his packs alpha killed Serene and banished him from the pack. Now after 5 lonely long years his former alpha has caused destruction and has killed so Malcom comes back to his pack to get revenge.

I really liked this story and I had a hard time putting it down. The author has the story in such a smooth flow and the interaction of the characters made this story worth the read.

This is for any paranormal romance book lover that like action and drama with their read. I can not wait to read book 2 when it comes out.

This is an amazing story by a terrific author. Jessica Cage has done it again.

This story was great from the first chapter. I couldn't put it down. I love Jessica’s writing style. Malcom is strong yet so hurt by his past and those that were supposed to be friends. This story was filled with ups and downs and great conflict between both vampires and wolves. I love a strong heroine and Mara is absolutely that. I hope to see more of her. Thanks again for the ARC of this great book in return for an honest review. I can’t wait for more.

He was exiled because he loved a human and helped a vampire. Malcolm couldn't help how he felt but his alpha didn't care. This is action packed with love, violence, jealously and accountability. I love Jessica's work.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book. Malcom has been banished from his pack by his former best friend and alpha. After being on the alone and on the run for months, the Alpha's sister, finds him and tries to convince him to come back to the pack. Towards the middle of the book, it was harder to follow the book and multiple characters. I enjoyed the book enough that I will give book two a chance.

I was given this book by the author for an honest review and i have to say that i did enjoy it very much.
Malcom an exiled wolf from his pack is now called upon to take down his former Alpha something he has wanted to avoid.
Will Malcom be able to bring himself to help a people who have effectively turned their backs on him? If the time comes will Malcom be able to deliver the death blow? Is there any saving these people from the sadistic tyrant they call Alpha? Is there any hope of them walking away and starting fresh? Will the truth behinds Vincent’s madness be too much for his people to handle?

There is no great world building in this bookbut Jessica Cage has done some great character building.
In the shifter world most authors focus on"wolf finds mate and tries to get her and all live happily ever after" but
Jessica has done nothing like that instead she has focused on the animal side of the wolves and how an unmated wolf would act.
I waited for the point were the built up would come to a scene of a fight or a death but it never came because the author focused in the emotional built up of her scenes that really did me in!
I cried while reading it and i have to say that Vincent was one of the characters i loved in the end and i am sure he has so much more to say that a book for his life is really a must.
There are so many beautiful characters that we meet in the book that it makes you want to meet each one personal. Each one has a unique character and most of them have a sense of honor (even if its twisted) and humour!
The next book in this series is about Sirus and i really really can't wait.
A really great job by the author and a 4 star review from me.

This is my first read of Jessica Cage’s work and I must say I thoroughly loved her story-telling, writing style and her story line! There are quite a lot of twists and turns, but not to the point where a reader is left thinking “what??”. There is an ample amount of sexual activity spread around … and I do mean around. I mean as with several different people, as well as locations. Not necessarily in a whorish way as one reviewer stated … just in the way of any (alpha) male. It’s the “if you can’t have the one you want … have the one you’re with” kind of thing.
There are attacks and fights from the psychotic ex-friend Alpha shifter who exiled Malcom for falling in love with a human. There are fights for dominance and to protect the lives of the pack that turned their back on him. There are even fights with warring vampires!
You get (along with Malcom) several major surprises regarding several of the other players in this book. This book held my interest in a way not many do. The anticipation and surprises were a nice addition to the usual shifter love story with good sex kind of read. There is a HEA, but with room to continue within the series.
Looking forward to reading the next book in this series!

Jam packed with intrigue, love, lust, betrayal, unforgettable characters and blood battles a plenty. This is my first book by the author and I was amazed by the story line.

Malcom made a poor decision and fell in love with a human--forbidden by pack law. When he asked his alpha to make an exception, Malcom's life on the run began.

The alpha became unhinged without Malcom as his second to keep him together. Not only did Malcom have to live a solitary life, he became the pursued. He left the pack, the ones he cared about and his lover paid with her life.

During his solitary life someone from his past resurfaces. Mara, a vampire he wants to ignore but she has a message that involves them both.

The intrigue, wars, and renewed relationships abound throughout the story. Never a dull moment was created for this book. I could not see how it could be resolved for Malcom with any sort of future for him. Inside he is good and didn't deserve the torment his life becomes.

Read this outstanding story to see how he ends up. A strong recommend from me.

I was gifted this book for an honest review.

Based on the blurb I thought the book was going to be different. For what's is worth minus some spelling errors I did like it overall. The author made me feel all sorts of emotions about our H, I went from sympathy, to intrigued to disgusted back to sympathy. I can't say with certainty that I truly believed the depth of connection between Malcolm and Stephanie to warrant an HEA because they rarely spent time together to build that connection for me especially since Malcolm had trouble sleeping with everyone else. I'm not sure if this is a in the realm of a romance based on that. I would have liked to read more interactions, growth with their relationship maybe some more jealousy on Malcolms end with the Sirus situation. The ending left a lot open so that would be cool to see a second book come to fruition from that. Based on what i did read the content is for a mature audience and as an independent reviewer for Romance Authors That Rock whose opinions and views are her own I am giving this book 3.5 Hearts.

This book is really good when you get past this guys whorish ways.

I love the action and I mean the fights and antipation of what is next, not the sex action.

I love that in the end he did get his mate and he has his happily ever after. He has been through a lot and he did deserve it.

Now some things I didn't like about this book and I know this author did a really good job but still.

I was confused by all the caracters. I didn't know when there was a change in them and there was actually so much changing it left me confused about the main book characters.

I didn't like that Malcom slept with so many woman in this book AFTER he met AND left his mate for someone else who tried to kill him.

I did love that he got his mate in the end so that's great.

After all of this you would think I didn't like this book at all but I did. It was actually a good writen book. The plot was fantastic but it's just some of this small things I had a problem with.

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Malcom is smart, strong, flawed, and yet you will fall for him. His fate is tied into a crazy Alpha wanting to kill him and most of the Wolf pack. Malcom has so many facets to him, just when you think you have him figured out, bam a new side. I am hesitant to explain too much because you need to read this for yourself. Jessica made it easy for me to envision the landscape, Malcom's change and all the characters as I read them.

This is filled with intrigue, twists, love and some very steamy scenes. Great read by the pool or beach on a hot summer day.

I received this book from the author in exchange for giving an honest review of the book. In my opinion this was a very good book. Though the writing style and grammar leaves a bit to be desired the storyline and characters seem very solid. I would also highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a few good twists cause this story packs a punch. Other than that I don't have much to say as I hate to give anything about the story away, so if you like shifters and redemption, give the book a try.

I must say that if i loved the main idea and plot i was disappointed by how Malcom wasn't loyal to one woman at all...for someone deeply in love it sound really strange to go see him with one, then another again another etc. For me it made me loose any affinities i could have with him and i stopped caring.

Alpha Male at its best.

I loved this book. An alpha male that doesn't want the position, is shunned but when it comes down to doing what must be done he comes through. The ending had me jumping for joy because he really does deserve some happiness.

Malcolm (Alphas Book 1) is an extraordinary story that both inspires and challenges. I couldn’t get over how deeply and how amazed I was with this entire story. I had no backstory, and yet it made the story that much more moving and meaningful to me. This was a wonderful surprise, and I savored every second of it! I look forward to reading more from this incredible author.

Throughout this heart-wrenching journey, we learn of a horrid betrayal between friends and its present rippling results. We feel and begin to understand just how momentous its effects have been. Nothing could seem more cold then the knife of betrayal plunged into your back when you least expect it. However, life has a way of making things come full circle, and just when it seems that things are finally going your way, the very ground under your feet tends to get swept away and replaced with a hell of others making. Keeping secrets never ends well. Perhaps one day, we will recognize that become more honest with each other.

Jessica Cage is a wonderfully brilliant author who knows how to pull your heart into the story from the very beginning. She never hesitates to pull away the parts of us that we don’t need and present us with what its replacement should be. It doesn’t occur to her to tiptoe around us which doesn’t help anyone. Instead, she bluntly pushes forward and makes us confront the evil in our own heart in order to become a better version of ourselves. Only then can we help those around us.

I absolutely loved the narration! His amazing talent really brought this spectacular story to life!! His rich and talented voice took my heart on a fabulous journey, and I will never forget it. I recommend this audiobook to everyone who loved paranormal romances that come with more then just a bite.

Wolf shifters and vampires fighting it out with a crazy alpha hunting his own kind down.
I don't even know where to start with this story, there is five books worth of plot with the vampire/werewolf politics, old nasty ex relationships biting people in the butt at the same time as secret missions and tons of violence.
Malcom is a lone wolf who is trying to mind his own business when he is thrown in to the mix with his ex girlfriends and old pack because their Alpha wolf has gone totally crazypants. This is the first time in many years when I guessed wrong who would be the lady to ride off into the sunset with Marlcom.
I will not spoil it, but I doubt that any reader could have guessed because this is a crazy twisty story. I liked it because this was insane.

I purchased the audio book and I am so glad I did. I love shifter and paranormal books, so I couldn't wait to start it. I sat glued to my phone listening to this book all the way through in just 2 days. I enjoyed every second of it! The story was so intriguing and the characters were so multifaceted. I loved Malcolm, of course who wouldn't love a sexy shifter that oozed masculinity, but my favorite character surprisingly was a female vamp named Mara. I just couldn't help but love her sassy and bold personality. (I hope she will get her own book. Hint, hint!)

I highly recommend this book and trying others by author Jessica Cage. She really knows how to weave a story!

Decent Storyline, good read

I loved Malcolm in this book. He was not only a alpha, but what a man. Loyal to his pack, family, and friends. Mara was the queen though. I felt that she got a raw deal from Malcolm in the end. How could she control another's feelings, nor was she responsible for that person going postal. Stephanie was okay, but not needed in my opinion.
This was a good read. Way more than just shape shifting creatures. It got the four way love triangle, family betrayal, lost lovers, and kick ass fight scenes.

The story was definitely fast-paced, but sometimes the pacing felt a little off and I would lose how much time had supposedly passed in the story. I feel like with the action, the author would make a great screenwriter. For the story itself, I was intrigued even if there were some formatting and typo issues. I feel like I was supposed to know these characters from a separate storyline which I will likely look into. Definitely intend on continuing the series.

I listened to this book on Audible. It was really good. I enjoyed the story line and the slew of characters. The ending was really unexpected, but I loved it! The narrator was really good too, and I enjoyed the different voices that he portrayed for each character. The book itself was really good as was every other book that I have read of Jessica Cage's. She's really talented, and her imagination shines through in each and every book. If you haven't read her catalog, you should.

Malcolm is exiled and on the run for loving a human woman. Vicent, Malcom's alpha and best friend, is losing his mind and sending his people to war. The story is interesting however I felt at times I was missing a backstory that would have helped me understand the actions of all. I did enjoy the strong female characters.
