It features marvelous natural history collections housed at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco amassed during their 150 years of scientific exploration and discovery.
The gift shop at the California Academy of Sciences was giving this away as the Academy prepare to move out of their temporary home downtown back to Golden Gate Park. I would have bought the book just for the photos of the "stacks" where all the specimen collections are stored. The book gives a breezy overview to the Academy's history and ongoing research projects, but it will surely be replaced by a new book trumpeting the amazing new building. The new building *is* exciting, but the Academy's history holds great appeal for me. I look forward to reading more about it.
