ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review. One of the best romances I've ever read. Real & honest. Funny and emotional. These characters amazed me with their fantastic chemistry. The storyline was refreshing, modern and very entertaining! Lux is a shy young woman and a writer. She struggles to get her books out there until a chance meeting with Jude chances everything. Jude is a famous television actor with a high profile. When they meet, Lux never thought that their encounter will completely alter her life. When she finds herself in the glittering world of show business, she will realize that she has Jude and her talent to thank. Their relationship starts hesitantly. They become friends. But Lux's feelings are not simply friendly. Will this reserved and timid woman survive the surreal world of celebrities and most importantly, will she survive Jude's coveted attention? Is Jude never going to breach the lines between friendship and attraction? The book drew me in from the start. I found Lux a deeply relatable heroine. Her character was real and flawed. I saw myself in her and so it wasn't difficult to connect with her. Jude was a clueless hero but a very kind one. The book is a fast paced story of love and I am certain that you will love the heroes as much as I did. I love Amity Cross and this book is so very different from her other work. I loved it!!! She can write anything; from edgy and twisted scenarios to romantic storylines like this one. I am a huge fan of her writing and this did not disappoint. One of the best books of the month for me. Do not miss this one!!
My first book of 2016 could quite possibly turn out to be one of my favourites of the year. It had everything I ever want from a book. A female lead that makes me feel every ounce of what she's feeling, a male lead who's perfectly imperfect and an antagonist who threatens said female and male finding their happy ever after and it made me cry.....Simple!
Lux Dawson is one of those characters that is socially awkward to the extreme and genuinely doesn't see the beauty in herself and not in a way that makes her come across as a martyr, she has come to terms with the fact that she cannot compete with the likes of Tessa Donahue, girlfriend, mega-tramp and also co-star to Jude Atwood.
Sadly Lux must hide her feelings for Jude and try to find peace in being friends zoned.
I loved Jude, I really did, but if there is ever a guy that needs a stick of dynamite up his backside it was this guy. I'm not lying when I felt every ounce of Lux's heartache and frustration and yes there were tears at 2:30am because I simply couldn't put the book down.
If I have one wish it's that Amity gives us Jude's perspective. There's a very small snippet where we get to know Jude's thoughts and while I'm not always a huge fan of the same book in a different point of view and I'm not even asking for an entire book, but I really would love to know more of what Jude was thinking.
Having only read Amity's Royal Blood series, I have to say this book was nothing like it........Not even close. You could say L is for Loving someone from afar with a few obstacles thrown in for good measure, but for me it was so much more and thinking of my fave reads of 2015, this book evoked similar feelings, so I have no doubt I'll be talking about this book at the end of the year. All in all this is a very beautiful, worthy 5 star read.
Book Review - L is for Luminous by Amity Cross - 4 ½ Take A Chance on Me Stars
I’m a big fan of Amity Cross’ but let me tell you now this is a huge departure from the gritty world we normally inhabit and she still managed to rock my socks off!
L is for Luminous is a book about Lux. She’s a writer with a seemingly untouchable dream of getting well known which she supplements with an ordinary day job (as many, many real writers can attest to and do!).
When she offers to help at a Comic-con event her friend is taking part in, she has no idea that fate in the way of a broken lift, is going to do her a massive favour. You see, she happened to get stuck with one of TV’s biggest stars that day, Jude Atwood. Jude is the poster boy of TV, our brooding vampire lead on the hit TV show Naturals.
Jude is intrigued by the girl who doesn’t simper all over him. Her snarky bite gets him curious. So when out of the blue a call comes in to Lux, asking her to come and talk about selling her work to his show’s producers, you can bet you know where the idea came from.
Lux quickly finds herself thrown into a world she’s completely no idea how to inhabit, with a few new friends and the old mortal enemy thrown in to boot.
As you would expect, you are asking yourself the question, will they won’t they but if you’re expecting a hearts and flowers story, then check yourself and remember who is bringing you this book. One scene in particular really tugged at my heart strings and I wanted to scoop Lux up and take her out on the town myself. Hey, I’ve had a ballgown on in Wetherspoons before - sometimes you have to roll with the punches.
What you do get in this book is a dose of reality bites, a window into people’s often less than flawless behaviour and the answer to the question ‘when is enough, enough?’ Everyone has that point which is their limit to being pushed, and we witness Lux finally reaching hers/
I like my love either with a side of sass or grit and in this story, you get a bit of both. Jude is a very mixed bag for me, at times I could quite happily have throttled him with his trainer laces, and other times I caught a glimpse of a boy who just might be worthy of Lux’s heart.
I ate this story up and now I’ll be in a corner dreaming about getting stuck in a lift at FBBF in June with a member of the Vampire Diaries cast - hey a girl’s got to have goals right?
Amity Cross never ceases to amaze me. Every book I read from her makes me come back for more. This book was different than her other series but it hooked me from start to finish. I was not sure if a writer writing about another writer would work, but it sure did. I loved the titles of each chapter and how much the characters and plot were intriguing and well developed.
I really felt connected to Lux’s character. I really saw myself in her. Lux is an awkward young woman, her parents gave her up when she was young and she moved from foster home to foster her entire life. She is shy and reserved and finds peace in her writing. Lux gets lost in her writing, creating a fantasy world where she is the heroine, fighting for justice and the leading male is in love with her. With love and support from her one and only friend, she publishes her series, but never gets notices. She volunteers at comic book convention hoping become noticed, and noticed she does get.
Jude is the opposite of Lux, he is the star of the weekly TV series “Naturals” and attends a comic book convention at his home town. He gets stuck in the elevator with a sensitive young woman, who does not recognizes him. Jude is intrigued with the young woman’s curiosity and her innocence. Trying to pass the time he discovers she is a writer, and before they are rescued he is able to get her card, before the paparazzi swarm in.
Lux never thought she would see Jude again, until she is offered the opportunity to writer for the TV series, Naturals. Lux ups a leaves her home in Australia and moves across the globe to Atlanta. This opportunity will open doors for Lux, and bring her into the world she has always dreamed of. Immediately, Lux feels self-conscious uneasy and nervous, she is nothing like all the big wigs around her. She was not sure was wanted for her talent or because of Jude’s insistence. Lux is attracted to Jude and is glad to get the chance to know him, but all that changes at the blink of an eye.
You want to talk about whiplash, well I have it. Jude, lord the man came with his baggage and drama with his co-star and on and off again girlfriend Tessa. Tessa was determined to make Lux miserable and would torture her at every chance. Cue the drama, angst and all that stuff I love while reading.
The story is told in part by Lux’ POV, but we are gifted Jude’s POV towards the end which I LOVED. This book was well written and the flow of the story was just awesome. I really fell in love with these characters and their journey. If you are looking for a read that has some quirky moments, drama, angst and some steamy scenes, than this book is one you’ll want to pick up.
Prior to starting this, I didn’t know what to read. So I did what I always do and I started going through books on my kindle and looking them up on Goodreads to see what sparks my interest. I’ve read at least one book by Amity Cross before and it ended in a cliffhanger so when I decided this looked good, I did something I typically don’t do…look at reviews prior to reading. I was really worried that this would have a cliffhanger and I’d have to wait for ages for the second book. The good news is THIS BOOK IS A STAND ALONE WITH A HEA. Ok, that’s not the only good part, but I just wanted to get that out of the way ;)
What sold me on this book was the fact that someone said it was a slow build romance…and that’s exactly what I wanted. This fit the bill perfectly. I loved seeing a relationship develop between characters…seeing them become friends and see how they start falling for each other and how their romantic relationship develops.
I really liked Lux. I found her to be very believable. It was very refreshing to see a character that was quietly strong. She was incredibly shy and easily embarrassed…you could easily say with anxiety issues since she would use google street view to find the front door of an unknown place so she didn’t get embarrassed…but I liked her. I also loved how she grew and changed over the course of the book. How she became stronger, more sure of herself and accepting that she was talented and deserved the job opportunities that she had been given.
I can’t talk about the book without mentioning Jude…not a huge fan on the name, mostly because it reminds me of the Beatles and I’m not a fan, but that’s neither here nor there. The whole time I was reading, I kept picturing Jude as Jensen Ackles. I loved the friendship that developed between Jude and Lux. Going back to how Lux grew, I loved how she called Jude on how he would use their friendship as a distraction when things went bad with his on-again-off-again girlfriend. I didn’t like Jude’s hot and cold attitude at times.
The book was primarily from Lux’s pov, but toward the end, we did get Jude’s POV. I was both happy and dismayed by this. As much as I loved seeing his POV, I also hated it just because he point blank said that he was playing with her at times and irritated at her for stopping his advances because he wanted her and he was famous so he normally got what he wanted (no, that’s not a direct quote…I’m paraphrasing)…but that’s just it…he didn’t take it seriously and I was dismayed to find that out because I wanted to believe that he was falling in love with her. Now, maybe he was. He also said “it took an entire year for me to realize that Lux meant more to me than just a best friend, or more than some passing attraction”. So he’s obviously not quick on the uptake of love and romance. So, at least he was honest. But he totally needed some sense knocked into him.
Even with the few issues, I really did enjoy this book. It was exactly what I was looking for and it was only with distance away from it after I finished that my issues occurred to me. I absolutely love slow burn romances so this was absolutely perfect in that respect.
I was really excited to read this book. I thought average girl gets stuck in an elevator with hot guy. This could be funny, hot and overall a different kind of read for me. Different from the norm. Well... This book had it's moments with me. But Lux... Lux, Lux, Lux She was super hard to get into. Which made this book a struggle to get through. I get she was dealt a crappy hand in life. I get that she has to work on things and herself. But... I felt like she never tried. I mean I'm 58% in and she still hasn't broken out of her shell. I was just expecting the elevator scene to be a bit more exciting. The way she came across to Jude was mean and rude. She liked to lash out a lot. I mean... I wasn't expecting some all out sexed up session in there. But... I was expecting something a little different. Then all of a sudden the story felt like it was on fast forward. Everything was just happening for Lex. All falling into place for her. This whole thing with Jude was also getting to me too. I mean... It seemed like the Jude and Tessa show and Lex was just standing in the sideline. I hate reading when the male main character is with another person for a good chunk of a book and not with the main character. It just kills the book for me. And in this book.... Jude's off and on again relationship with Tessa was just to much for me. And Lex has yet to be with anyone because she is to busy daydreaming about her crush with Jude. Ughhh... I'm 66% in and still nothing between Lex and Jude. When something finally did happen. Jude pulled the ultimate douche bag move. And I hated how lex just let all these things happen. She was a doormat. She never stood up for herself. She just curled into herself and just let it all happen. Jude's reasoning as to why he did what he did were ridiculous. And I would not forgive him at all. Another thing that didn't work for me in this book was the writing style. And the way the book was written. All the fade to black and next episode kind of stuff... Just didn't work for me. I had such high hopes for this book. But it just wasn't for me. I could not get into both main characters.

Wow!! This is not Amity's usual kind of kick ass story! I have read all of Amity Cross's books, she is one author I will one click without hesitation! I loved this book, its not what I was expecting which is why I think I enjoyed it even more. As with all her other books I was sucked in from the first page so no disappointment from me! This is a lovely story. Lux is a writer, she likes to get lost in her own fantasies, (who can blame her?) she has no family, her parents gave her up when she was born so she's not had the most ideal of childhoods, but she survived and mulled along in life. All she wanted was someone to read her books but no one would touch them so with encouragement from her friend she self published. Lux was helping out at a cartoon convention and whilst on an errand the elevator broke down. Well there was another person in the very same broken down elevator, he was a famous actor called Jude!! Lux being quite an introvert found it hard to have a conversation with Jude. They were rescued but not before Jude managed to get her card!! Little did Lux know that day was about to change her life completely!! You must read this and find out what's in store for Lux. I absolutely loved it, I think it's one I could read over and over!! Thank you Amity for yet another 5 star read!

I was so EXCITED to read this one as I've read other books written by Amity Cross & I wasn't disappointed... As soon as I saw this one was coming out, I jumped at the opportunity to sign up for an ARC.
This isn't anything like her previous books, which I didn't mind at all!! I enjoyed reading this book and I have to admit that this one is definitely my favourite of Amity's books!
We meet Lux Dawson, an ordinary girl just trying to fit in the world.... she's a writer of supernatural suspense holding down 2 jobs to keep herself afloat. Helping out her friend Melody in this comic convention as a volunteer.. she was asked to run over to the hotel to pick up something for a guess speaker.
Ended up being stuck in the elevator with Jude Atwood - Famous actor in the show called 'Naturals' Lux's all time crush!! Gonna leave it there as you need to read the rest. I don't post spoilers so I wont start :)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story, there were times when I just wanted to shake my kindle with Jude... lol
Honestly you should one click this book, plenty of drama & humour that I loved every single bit!
I read my first Amity Cross book last year (The Beat series) so I was looking forward to reading this new book.
The story is about Lux a writer looking for her lucky break and Jude who has just found his break on a new America TV series. They both get stuck in a lift one day and little does Lux know that once they are freed from the lift that her life will change forever. There is a job opportunity of a lifetime and also Jude wanting to get know her more. However he has the 'perfect' on and off screen girlfriend.
This is a different read then what I was expecting and I really enjoyed it. I liked the slow build of the relationship between Lux and Jude. There was also the right amount of angst thrown in with the story. It is very well written and has a great pace. I was hooked once I started it and wanted to keep reading. It was a great fun, sexy heart warming story and I would recommend it to fans of Amity's other books.

I guess it's safe to say that L is for Luminous is unlike anything else Amity Cross has written, yet it was brilliant! I was intrigued about this book since I read the blurb and saw that beautiful cover, and this book definitely did not disappoint. The book is equal parts, funny, beautiful, romantic and angsty.
The blurb is pretty self-explanatory, Lux is usually a recluse, she has been through a lot having been raised in the foster care system, not having a real family. Because of that she usually keeps to herself. However, she writes and publishes her stories. One day Lux accompanies her best friend to a comic convention and gets stuck in an elevator with one of Hollywood's biggest TV star. That chance encounter, changes her life forever. What happens next is a real treat, we experience all those changes in Lux's life and go through a real unexpected journey.
I loved loved loved Lux. What an awesome character! She's so smart, talented, innocent and honest. I felt for her, was happy for her, laughed with her thoughts and also wanted to smack her sometimes. But above all, was so happy to experience her transformation, it's like she just blossomed into the person she was always meant to be.
Then there's Jude, all hot and alpha, yet awesome and sensitive. Jude also had struggles of his own. He was extremely conflicted between what he wanted and what was expected of him. He simply just wanted to be real. Not going to lie, he is frustrating at times, but bear with him. He is pretty amazing.
The book is pretty angsty at times, and the romance is slow building but when it happens is extremely swoony. However, to me, the story was more about Lux's journey rather than the Lux and Jude love story. Although Jude plays a huge part on her journey, but that's for you to find out when you read the book ;)
The book is also extremely funny, awesome dialogue, awesome quotes and super funny situations.
"You could roll a turd in glitter, but under all the glitz and glamour, it was still a big, steaming turd."
And the writing is simply superb. The book is so well written in every single way, just beautiful.
"I felt his presence before I even laid eyes on him. That was the thing about black hole singularities. They sucked you in with their gravitational force, but you never knew what was at their heart until you crossed the event horizon. I’d crossed into the unknown and had the experience of my life. The one-sided experience of my life."
I also loved the descriptions of all the ins and outs of the television industry, the author notes in the end, and how the book tackles the issue of bullying, which is something as prevalent in adults as it is in kids. Overall, this was such an amazing, refreshing read and I totally recommend it.
Jude was the one.
Jude was my truth.
Jude was my love.
“Only you,” he whispered between kisses.
“Only you.”

I was so excited to be able to read L is for Luminous before its official release. Amity had allowed me into this 'cool kids club' where we sit around and read the fabled 'ARC' and now I feel like I am owed a t-shirt or something. With this book I truly took a journey, let me tell you about it...
It started with a stunner of a cover. Being a cover snob through and through I was delighted to add this little gem to the line up of ebooks I possess. However, within pages of starting the book I wanted to stop. For some reason the thought of a romance writer writing about a romance writer makes me cringe. However, I persevered, Amity is yet to miss any of the boxes I require in a 5 star read so I gave her my faith and trust (a little L is for Luminous joke there).
Enter Lux, our leading lady and even in the beginning stages of getting to know her I know that we are going to be great friends. Lux comes with baggage and it is the type I love to read about; having grown up moving between families Lux now has her own personal struggles. Nothing highlights these struggles better then her introduction to the leading man- Jude. Filled with awkwardness, this moment in Lux's life is the point where it changes all together.
This story then takes me somewhere I was not expecting; to a different country, a changed leading lady and a leading man that I want to punch in the face. Amity has put just the right amount of angst in this story; I felt frustrated for Lux but not to the point where I was frustrated by the story. Lux displayed just the perfect bad ass/ pushover ratio to make a romance story enjoyable and I wanted more than anything for her to succeed.
If I could have anything else in this book it would be getting to know the secondary characters better. Amity; if you ever write an additional scene please let it be Lux sitting around with Candy and Melody having a girls night in and gossiping!
L is for Luminous is definitely not the story I was expecting based on my previous Amity reads but I loved this story so much I'm not even mad about it. L is for Luminous ended with the HEA I wasn't sure I wanted until it happened and everything is so well ended that it is a fantastic example of a standalone read just begging to be read over this New Zealand (and Australian) summer.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Crazy Cajun Book Addicts for an honest review.
I love Amity Cross and have read quite a few of her books however this one is very different to what she normally writes and I have to say I really enjoyed it.
Lux Dawson has had is hard, growing up in the foster care system she is a shy young women with a very low self esteem. Lux is a writer and the only time she feels she can be herself is in her writing cave with her hot leading man. One weekend she attends a comic convention and finds herself stuck in an elevator with none other than Jude Atwood the famous actor that her own leading male is based on. Due to that chance encounter her life changes completely for the better the only thing missing is that special someone in her life, but is that about to change too?
I loved seeing the transformation of Lux in this book she went from this shy, awkward person to the strong independent young women who wasn't afraid to go for what she really wanted out of life. As I mentioned this is quite different to Amity's previous books but it's a great read and I can't wait to see what she gives us next.
The lonely, passed over Lux gets stuck in a lift with TV heart throb Jude and she gets more than she bargained for.
She moves her life from Australia to America after landing the job of a lifetime writing.......enter Jude again.
Jude, the guy with the girlfriend, forbidden fruit. He's a nice guy however he was clueless (typical man!)
I spent half the book wanting to kick him in his man bits and scream in his face, the other half I just wanted him to smile and charm the pants off me! Anyhoo, he was in my bad books.
Lux breaks my heart with her opinion of herself but she is a talented writer. Anyone know where i can get my hands on a copy of the Scarlett Ravenwood series?!
Could the fairytale of the actor and the writer happen?
This was a great read, I read in 1 sitting and enjoyed the authors humorous writing style, it was captivating.
I have to admit that I've never read this author before and I am so glad I read this book and I'll be checking out more.
The story has laughs, crazy elevator conversations and heartbreak.
This is Lux and Jude’s story. They meet when they got trapped in an elevator. Lux is a writer and Jude’s an actor. They get to know each other when being trapped in an elevator. Lux comes from a bunch of foster homes. When she tells him she is a writer he realizes that he read and liked her books. Can he help her out? When Lux is thrown into a situation is might not want she has to overcome some of her issues in order to learn and grow. There are time you will want to smack the clueless Jude but in the end he will win you over.
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
A great read by Amity Cross. Although it took me a little while to get into it, what with adulting getting in the way and all, when I actually took the time to sit down and give it my full attention, it had me awake until some crazy hour until I finished it. Amity wrote this story so well.
L is for Luminous is the story of Lux Dawson. An author who flys under the radar but meets Jude Atwood and her life turns upside down. A move from Australia to write for a US television series, Lux is living the dream. Or is she? This page turner will keep you guessing.
I do warn that this comes with a "I wish you were real so I could beat you!" warning!
Lux is so real! She's painfully shy and insecure but it was written in a relatable way rather than making her seem unrealistically debilitated. She's unsure of her place in the world and what to do with her future. Watching her find her footing while heeding her calling was great.
I was a little iffy on the hero, he was so indecisive and misleading... the end was somewhat satisfying but a little bit rushed. I feel like Lux's personal story had come to a proper conclusion but her relationship with Jude was hastily wrapped up.
I have to admit i haven't read any of Amity's books before, I am so glad I have read this and will be checking out her other books
This was a great read, once I started i couldn't put it down, Love Amity's writing style the book had me from page 1 and i just had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen.
I've read a lot of stories by Amity Cross; she's a writer who's not afraid to step outside the box and craft HER tale how she wants and with the type of characters and darkness that she wants to deliver to her readers, and I've thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them.
With L is for Luminous, Cross steps even further outside the box, especially her own, and writes a story that is just as soul searching as her others, but in a much different way. Lux’s story is not as dark or erotic as other Cross stories; it’s more about illustrating how someone who is ordinary can grow to be extraordinary…it’s about feeling comfortable enough to be one’s dorky, nerdy, and awkward self without worrying about judgment. It’s about learning to matter to oneself before being able to matter to anyone else.
Lux's story is definitely going to resonate with a lot of readers; her personal and professional struggles, as well as her low self-esteem and lack of confidence, are ones that a lot of young women go through, so many readers will feel like Amity Cross is exposing their lives and giving them the strength and courage to see their differences as outstanding qualities that will make them shine! Lux is an every women kind of character; she’s quirky and feels more comfortable in her fictitious worlds, and she wants what every single woman wants – to matter…to be loved, and so far, that hasn’t happened for her and she feels quite forgettable.
There’s a definite love story in L is for Luminous; in fact, I would argue there are two, and in my opinion, one is way more important than the other. Throughout the course of the story, Lux learns to accept herself, quirks and all, and she grows into her talent and becomes more confident in her abilities. Lux also develops a crush on TV star Jude Atwood, but I’ll be honest, I didn’t know if I really wanted her to end up with him because the way he treated her at times made me want to strangle him. But Cross does a great job of taking readers through the ups and downs of Lux and Jude’s friendship/attraction and sorting through the mixed messages and the concept of fiction versus reality that is quite significant in order to understand the complications involved in their relationship.
Lux Dawson as the heroine of L is for Luminous made this book everything I hoped it would be after my initial introduction to her. Her attitude, her determination, and her inner monologues will endear her to readers and wish she was real and we could be best friends.
If you are a fan of Amity Cross’ other stories, don’t let the change in genre dissuade you from reading Lux Dawson’s story because I can guarantee you won’t regret it!
A complimentary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.
To say that this is outside of Amity Cross’s “box” is absolutely spot on! But you know what? I kind of liked that she took this chance and wrote from her heart, what she really, really wanted to write. It shows. In every single word, paragraph and page, it most definitely shows. And you know what else? I felt like a got a real piece of Amity Cross in this story. It felt personal, it felt real. This is the reason why I read. I don’t say that too often but when one of my favourite authors knocks out a book that simply lets me live through every single emotion – I’m there. Right in that little slice of heaven that keeps me up until 2am and my kindle battery has run dry. What you get in Luminous is something so far from The Beat and Pulse series, nothing like her Royal Blood series but a truly wonderful New Adult romance that will simply have you running through every emotion that a good book should. She doesn’t bring the alpha male to the table, nor does she bring the over confident kick ass heroine. What she gives you are two people that are simply living life the best way they know how. Jude, the actor, who should exude confidence, is a nice guy (for the most part) if not a little confused and tangled up in a messy love affair he really can’t stand. The familiarity of it keeps him going back for more. Lux isn’t exactly beaten down; she just goes through the motions, lacks that confidence and her life is neither here nor there. It’s sweet and it’s sour all at the same time. It’s a little sexy, a lot angsty and has a great storyline that kept me reading. I loved the characters, I really did, and there were a myriad of different character types in here to love. It’s a clever little book too, packed full of “other” references to many different things, from chapter titles to fictitious television series. But it fit, all of it fit perfectly with the story that this author carved out for Jude and Lux. I did feel a little frustrated with Jude at times and some of his actions were questionable, Amity gives the answers, sometimes not as forthright as I would have like but they were there all the same. If you want to get lost for a couple of hours then you’d do well to pick up this little gem. The title says it all and this book just shines like its main character, Lux. I loved it and I have no problems recommending this to anyone. If this is your first read of Amity cross I do urge you to go back and read some of her other works. I was a believer that nothing would top her Royal Blood series for me but Amity cross has surprised me and this goes right to the top of my favourite pile and my first 5 star read of 2016. Just excellent…..
L is for Luminous by Amity Cross. The blurb was very interesting to me so I wanted to read it. Amity Cross delivered a very enjoyable book! The first word got me sucked in all the way till it was done. I can’t wait to read more by Amity Cross. Something interesting as well was that in this book there are Episode(s) which worked instead of chapters. I liked how the story was effortless. Lux is the main character in this book. Lux is a 25 year old who wants adventure and heart-stopping romance. She always wanted to be an author and with getting rejected she decided to publish them herself. Her friend Melody (Mel) showcasing her comic books at a convention so she decided to sign up. Maybe someone will take her seriously. At the convention she meets Jude Atwood who is an actor on Naturals. She has a huge crush on him. Well something happens and after that day Lux Dawson was finally someone! She got a job offer! There are other characters in this book and they all fit perfectly together just like a jigsaw puzzle.
Parts of the story I like:
“You can’t focus on the what if’s. You’ll make yourself sick. All of those things might never happen, and if you don’t go, you’ll have the rest of your life to wonder what might’ve been if you had of said yes. The hardest part is taking the first step. So, go! Say yes, and make your dream come true!”
“The most unpredictable part of a human being was the heart. Not in a technical way-it always beat, pumped blood, and did what it was supposed to most times-but more in the emotional sense. Why the heart wanted the things it did was a mystery that was right up there with the Bermuda Triangle and that strange other realm where all the odd socks go during the spin cycle.”
“Sitting on white velvet with a long chain was a delicate letter L encrusted with tiny diamond chips. It was small and simply, nothing flashy, and I instantly knew that he’d listened to the things I told him. He’d listened and remembered. A white card sat in the lid of the box, and I flipped it open. In black pen he’d written ‘L is for luminous’.”
“As he spun me around on the ice, I knew he’d always hold a special place in my heart.”
I liked the ending as well.
If you like to read romance than I’d recommend this book to you!
"Sometimes it's just nice to be still with someone...you know? Our world is crazy, always changing, always on the edge of failing apart. I just want to be still for a moment. With you."
Cue Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, yeah I know never would I ever thought that would be a song that would pop into my head whilst reading Amity Cross but somehow it just fits. L for Luminous is a coming of age, growing into your own skin and embracing yousepf type read. No murder, mayhem or darker plot lines just a good old fashioned angst riddle tale of Lux a determined but not very confident talented writer. Given up for adoption as a new born she has never felt loved or accepted and has found her escape in her writing. Creating a world where she is the protagonist fighting evil, saving the day and being loved by a hot alpha male...her books are self published and going unnoticed until one chance keeping changes it all.
Jude is a hot commodity in the dazzling world of TV. Part of a successful series he is the main character that has all the female audience licking the TV screen. Returning home to star as the main guest at a comic con convention he is trapped briefly in a lift with the most quizzical young woman. She is different to his adoring fans, legions of horny females and actually sees him. The chance encounter leads onto life changing events but I'd it who you know and not your talent that opens doors? Lux is lost in self doubt...
Can Lux make it as a screen writing, has she the determination and talent to win over her critics including herself? Most of all will they abandoned little girl find the acceptance and love she is desperately seeking? The ugly duckling emerges as a beautiful swan but can she capture the heart of the man who holds hers?
L for Luminous is quirky, fun and heart warming. Lux is so easy to connect with and I loved her from page one as her issues are experciened by all of us at some point yet she is witty and kind, determined not to hold herself back which is admirable and endearing. Jude is a mighty boy but again his heart is in the right place he's just a little jaded and dazzled by fame but I still think he's a cutey! I laughed and smiled my way through this story. Yes it's a little lighter than usual from Amity Cross but still had her signature wit throughout making this a fabulous read.
A five star glowing read.

4.5 stars – witty, heartfelt and different from Amity’s other books
I have read most of Amity’s previous books so was intrigued by this one as it seemed so different from those I had read before – and it was.
Lux Dawson was given up for adoption at a young age, moved from foster home to foster home, she never felt like she fitted in anywhere. She has just muddled through life, shy and reserved finding solace in one thing - her writing, creating a world where she is the hero, fighting for justice and loved by the hot alpha male lead.
With encouragement from her only friend, she self publishes her series of books but they go largely unnoticed. Desperately seeking love and affection and to belong she volunteers at a comic convention and one chance meeting in a lift changes her life forever.
Jude is one hot alpha male, the lead in a popular tv show, he has the media following his every move and the ladies falling at his feet. Returning home to attend a comic convention, he gets stuck in the lift with a very curious young girl who doesn’t even seem to realise who he is. She’s prickly and doesn’t fall all over him, which is refreshing for him. He does manage to find out about Lux’s writing and before being rescued manages to get her card. Lux believes that this is the last time that she will ever see or hear from him but little did she know that this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Offered the opportunity to screen write on the very show that Jude stars in and to incorporate her books into the scripts, her self doubt creeps in. She knows that Jude had to have a hand in this but was she sought out because of him or because they really wanted her words.
Jude is determined to become friends with her, he is intrigued by Lux and wants to just be able to step away from the mayhem that comes with the show and the leading lady “girlfriend” who is also a super bitch and hates the sight of Lux

"What does your name mean? Light, in Latin, Ancient Greek, in all kinds of languages"
L is for Luminous.
Lux Dawson has never had a great life, she's always just, existed.
"Who are you? A nobody"
Until the universe she feels has never listened to her traps her in the path of Aussie Hollywood heart throb Jude Atwood. Lux's character development from shy and awkward to a successful more confidant woman is fantastic. Jude struggles to find anyone "real" in his life, everyone seems to want something from him. Except Lux, she is his real. Together they help each other find the things they've both been looking for from life. Their relationship is a slow burn built on friendship with undeniable chemistry and connection. But like all stories things are never that easy. The jealousy that comes from Jude's on/off girlfriend is brutal. Tessa's bullying tactics and capabilities are ones to rival those of a high school diva and drama queen.
" the thought of someone like her being jealous of me was laughable".
Jude's back and forth relationship with Tessa was for me a bit much, I feel there could have been a little more time for Jude and Lux as a couple and less of Tessa.
The references from Lux about her career as a budding author ring very true from what I've read, with her thoughts on reviews, the fear no one will like her story to The struggles with getting her name known and a steady following of readers. The fears are real in today's new authors and even in some well established authors. Entwining that into a novel is a fantastic way to help make readers aware that authors are people to.
Amity' story telling abilities have truly shon in this book. She spins an intriguing fast paced story that's spread well over a long period of time with out it being rushed. I would highly recommend this one to any Amity fans and to anyone who is yet to discover her.
Hey Jude don't make it bad...Remember to let her into your heart Then you can start to make it better... Hey Jude, don't be afraid... I have this song since I read L is for Luminous for first time (uhm 2 months ago with 3 times of reading... ) Yeah, in simples words:
I love this book.
Why...??? Well, Let's start by its author, Amity isn't her real name, but when she writes with that name is an explotion of hot stars (hot times), colors and love. But if you know her real name and her normal life, you can see a soft and cute person. Probably this book is the start for put together these personalities; Hot and Cute, Love and Sex, Stars and Darkness.
Step 2, the characters: if you identify yourself with one or several of them, this is your book.
The characters have their personality like any people in this world. You can see part of you in Lux, shy, nerdy and sometimes dorky but with strong determination inside of her.
Jude... Jude... Oh Jude! You are that guy that all girl wants like a friend and maybe something more... Some times you hate him and a lot of time, you love him also. By the way my favorite chapter is that than says about Jude in its title.
Tessa Devil!! I hate you... next...
You can see more across of this book...How? References, a lot of reference of pop culture!!! Songs, books, tv shows, places, movies, friki times, nerd times, comics, anime...
The cover is gorgeous, it's simple but with a BOOM! like defines perfectly the book and the principal girl in the story, Lux. The palette of colors is wao that detail of yellow for the title is cool.
Probably You'll cry, or maybe you'll laugh or you'll sigh if you read this lovely book. Take your time, go by a hot chocolate (if you are in hot weather, it's better a cold chocolate) and READ this book!
