My buddy, the self-described image consultant, wanted me to meet one of his clients. All he would tell me was that she was 'odd' and he thought I should meet her.
We got along great. She was easy to talk to. I liked her a lot. There was an honest attraction. But after coffee, when she tried to pay me for the hour and a half we spent together, I realized that where I thought this was a date, she thought it was an appointment. She thought she had been referred to me as a relationship coach. So we started over. As friends.
But my buddy was right. She was a little odd. Six-feet tall. A professional volleyball player. And she gave me three strict rules about dating her.
Don't expose her to bright lights.Don't get her wet.And Never feed her after midnight.I'd do my best. I had no idea why. The other thing that I found odd was that she didn't tell me her name.
I did not finish this book and I’m unlikely to pick it up again.
I liked the premise and the start of this story, but I found the dialogue between the two main characters to be a little inane. I also didn’t like the writing - example:
She said, “I guess so... I mean, I want you to.”
I said, “Do you?”
She said, “I will.”
I said, “And in the morning?
I did a check and my kindle says the word “said” appears more than 1,000 times - that’s over 4 times per page.
Sorry, I got bored. And the story seemed to loop around and around.
Fans of Marilyn Foxworthy know what they're going to get from one of her books: multidimensional characters, discussions about mindfulness and oneness, eroticism and some zen philosophy. All of those are here and up to her usual high standards.
There's not much of a story to this book, but that's not unheard of for Ms. Foxworthy. Some of her books, especially the ones in this series, are more about the characters and their interactions with each other than about following any kind of plot. I only bring it up because in these kind of stories you need well written characters, and the main character in this book, Jake, is kind of a blank slate.
We know he went to college, but we don't know what he studied. We know he is an author, but don't know what kind of books he writes. We know he used to do something else for a living, but not what. We know he doesn't get along with his parents, but not why.
We know more about the women that join Jake in his new family, Miranda, Stevie and Andie, than we do about him. These are some of my favorite characters that Ms. Foxworthy has ever written. They are fantastic and the main reason I give this book 4 stars.
I also want to talk about the author turning Honest Attractions into an anthology series. I like the change, but it feels like I may have hit the nail on the head in one of my other reviews when I said that it seems like Marilyn Foxworthy likes starting new series more than she likes continuing her existing ones. I really like the people we've met and the places we've seen in all three books in this series, but I can't help but wonder if we'll ever get to see more of them, especially since all three books have ended on a bit of a cliffhanger.

If you love live and love, you’ll love Marilyn Foxworthy, and her books!
Ms. Foxworthy’s books are fun, deep, and a treasure. There are places that are deeply thought provoking, funny, and very much what most of humanity should thirst for. Wit, wisdom, and clarity of thought are marks of Ms. Foxworthy’s writings. I’ve read at least 40k books since 1956, and I’m 72 now. For me, Ms. Foxworthy is the equal of Heinlein. She is bright, brilliant, and as precious as the finest gems. I wish her, and hers, all the best that life can offer. Thank-You, Ms. Foxworthy…
Foxworthy's best writing so far. I totally enjoyed reading this. New characters, current time period, and wonderful exciting story. Wish I was there . Only complaint, typos, dropped letters, and crossnamed people. Please get competent proof readers!
Ms. Foxworthy does it again! Having discovered her during the pandemic, and having read most of her books, I still am amazed of how her descriptive language satisfies. Truly a top notch writer!
I loved this one and would to keep it going (as with most of your book ones), but living in the Pacific Northwest I actually had my brother in law get married at those exact same stairs by haystack rock in seaside. Would love to see more. Big fan Mrs F. ❤️❤️
I have all of the authors books that I can find. Every series has been as great as the one before it IMHO. I eagerly await each on. Ms Foxworthy is my current favorite author.
I believe that I have read most of this author's work. To me Ms Foxworthy writes about sex with little conflict. In this case, she she offers a story of love, emotion, and growth. I applaud the new style and recommend this to thoughtful adults.
Great addition to the Honest Attractions series. Quite a take on multiple partners and kind of a commune style marriage, or partnership as it were; but I really enjoyed it!
Very enjoyable story with a twisting plot. The multiple female characters were well introduced and integrated. The family ties introduced additional twists.
