The war in the south is over but the war in the North has just begun.. A year ago, Will would have never guessed he’d be a soldier fighting on foreign soil. Thrust into this new world of danger and opportunity, he has proven himself a formidable warrior, and begun his ascension through the military ranks.
Advancement comes with a price. Deep in the north, political trouble stirs. As the Duke breathes his last breath, his heirs stoke the fires of civil war.
Meanwhile Will faces threats closer to home. The darkness of the cult still lingers, and as his legend grows, the powers of the world have begun to take notice.
Cultists, Warlock’s, and giant hungry beasts that lurk in the dark… and those are just a few of his troubles.
Book 2 in an epic new LitRPG Progression Fantasy Series where humans battle monsters and the good die young.
Featuring a focus on battles, leveling up, strategy, tactics, and political intrigue, it's perfect for fans of A Soldier's Life, Limitless Lands, and The Accidental Champion.
Slice of life as a Knight, William and his company of soldiers are exceeding my expectations. Although they have lost a soldier or two in the line of fire, William and Co keep fighting the good fight.
William’s cunning and his quick rise to power scares the uppity nobles who lord their power over those less fortunate and he scares them ‘cause he is willing to punish them for their atrocious actions and I love every bit of it!
Need more Joanna and William time though!

I started reading this and I thought to myself I've read this before Turns out I had it was on royal road and I read it there. It's good but I still think a soldier's life is better That's my personal opinion feel free to disagree with me it's OK. I'm not saying that this is bad because it's not it's decent. I'm waiting for books 3 to start being posted on royalroad hopefully it will be.
Wow what happened! I loved the first book soooooooo much but seemingly book 2 felt a bit off! Yeah, yeah the characters were great, and the storyline was fun, but Will of Blackbriar kinda sorta drove me crazy with all his introspection, which in itself could've been OK, but it would happen at the oddest times, like get this, in the middle of fighting a deadly tainted monster! And instead of learning something new and awesome about himself it was just cryptic and didn't do anything but confuse both him and me! And in the middle of a fight of all things! Hummm
So this was incredibly disappointing and I would say barely progression based at all. There was some character growth but it was very limited and not really relevant to the story in any meaningful way. Pretty much this whole book is just the author crapping on the protagonist no matter what he does.. Yes they're supposed to be challenges and yes the protagonist does not need to win every time but this was just a slog that was not enjoyable to read.
I enjoyed the first book, but this felt a lot slower and less interesting, as we’ve seen it all before. And does everyone who dislikes him have to be a ludicrously over the top villain, cackling and eating babies? It’s like the rich English guys from Titanic. “Pass me another cigar made from the despair of the common folk I’ve crushed beneath my heel!”
I like the progression of the story. Not to fast or to slow. Will is a great character who is turning into a hero. His company are the best support and are also likeable.
Author is skilled.. Reminds me of David Gemmel... Which is a huge complement... Interesting system.. Developed characters, a soldiers life in litrpg Highly recommend JD Glasscock Author of the Series Blood Brothers, Nocturne and Warborn
Plenty of monster battles, nice level progression. This is a decent series. It needed another read through by an editor but my literature skills are worse, so no drop in stars.
There were spelling mistakes everywhere. The moment you get on a roll you stumble over stupid mistakes that force you out of the world. Wait until it’s updated to read.
dnf early. Just doesnt compare with A Soldiers Life. Swearing, the magic system doesnt come across as anything immersive. Things just felt a bit lackluster to be honest. I suspect some AI assistance was involved. Scene changes and plot twists are choppy too and gave me whiplash
was an ok read. again a lot things unanswered, but they did try an answer a few things. I feel like this book was setting up for the 3rd book. the 3rd book is going to be amazing.
