From USA Today best-selling author A. M. Madden comes a compelling story about one man’s awakening to all-new desires - and to a life-altering romance.

I’ve always been known as the hopeless romantic...the nice guy...the sweetheart.

Everything in my life supported this persona. My students loved my easy personality. My colleagues admired the way I handled myself in the classroom.

But something was always missing.

Like so many relationships before it, my current attempt at love felt like a dead end. When she gave me an ultimatum, I couldn’t promise to give her what she wanted.

So, she ended it.

Explaining another breakup to my family was the last thing I wanted. But doing it on a luxury yacht at my brother’s wedding lessened the hardship.

I never imagined that trip would change everything...and I certainly wasn’t prepared for him to change everything.

Upside Down is a sister’s-best-friend straight-to-gay stand-alone romance that contains adult content.

Upside Down is book three in the Breaking the Rules series by A.M. Madden. This is my very first book by this author. This is a stand alone, M/M, sexual awakening, sister’s best friend romance and I’ll go ahead and let you know up front that I am completely and irrevocably in love with this book! From what I can see, this is her first M/M romance and she wrote it perfectly. I so hope she writes more in the future!

“What was wrong with me?”

Cooper Stanton is twenty eight years old, is a well respected English Literature Professor, and is the middle child of five children. Cooper has watched his siblings find their persons, fall madly in love, have children, and lead the lives they dreamed of. While he loves his job, Cooper’s romantic life has always been lacking. He’s been in some wonderful relationships, such as the last one. But there was always something missing. He kept waiting for that big bolt, that overwhelming feeling his siblings spoke of. But it never came. His last girlfriend who was now his ex, was the perfect example. She was a wonderful girl, should have been perfect for him, she just wasn’t.

“Love is unpredictable and nonsensical. It could strike as quickly as the bolts of lightning out that window.”

Ricky Burrows is I believe around thirty three years old, and is Cooper’s sister Rebecca’s best friend. He co-owns a luxury yacht with Rebecca and her husband and their business is thriving. Ricky has watched Cooper’s relationships fail and he knows why. Been there, done that. He knows what denial feels like. Ricky feels like he is the best person to enlighten Cooper what he’s missing in his life but it only made him angry. And then it happened, the kiss! The kiss that would change both of their lives forever.

“For whatever reason, this man had hooked me, and with each day that went by, he continued to reel me in.”

I absolutely loved the way Cooper went about examining this new reality and who he went to for advice. And once Cooper decided to accept things, he was all in. He knew what he wanted and he went for it. But Ricky had been hurt before, badly. He had trust issues. That white hot attraction was there between them, but Ricky didn’t trust that he wasn’t just an experiment to Cooper, that he was just going through a phase.

“I find you very attractive. I don’t know why, but I do. It’s a good part of why I’m here.”
“What’s the other part?”
“I don’t want to be anywhere else.”

These two were so good together. The sexy times were smokin’ hot! But it was so much more than that. They challenged each other at every turn. Their connection grew stronger every day but they still had so far to go.

I loved everything about this book, about these two men. I had no problem at all jumping in with book three. I enjoyed all of the secondary characters. Both Ricky and Cooper’s families were adorable. I adored the journey these two embarked on together. I had a lot of interruptions while I was reading this but even if I had to put it down mid sentence, as soon as I picked it back up again, I was drawn right back in. And the ending!!! I practically swooned right off the couch. These two are going to stay in my head for a very long time. I’m getting all swoony just typing this. I so hope this author decides to write more M/M romance in the future. My fingers are most definitely crossed!

Absolutely no.

This was EXHAUSTING. I don't know why people write finding romantic love is the most important thing in life and those who don't have it are just depressed fucks.

Who even said that true love has to be romantic!? True love is loving yourself and not needing somebody else to make you happy. People can bring u happiness but they aren't responsible for your happiness.

It was annoying as hell. This story is giving us wrong and backward thoughts. You can be perfectly happy being simple. Love isn't necessary at all.

I hated this. Absolutely hated it.

4.5 Upside Down by A.M. Madden is an unputdownable GFY (Gay For You) romance. I loved Cooper and Ricky. Cooper is a college professor whose world is turned upside-down when he realizes he has feelings for Ricky, a luxury cruise ship owner. The two have some emotional baggage they need to address, or their ship will never set sail.

Upside Down packed the perfect amount of heat and heart. Annmarie didn’t go overboard with making this book overly sexy, but it had a satisfying spice factor. If you’re a first-time m/m romance reader or a seasoned m/m fan, you will love this book. FYI, Upside Down is the third book in the Breaking the Rules series of interconnected stand-alones. If you haven’t read the other books in this series, you will not feel lost. One-click worthy!

Upside Down is book 3 in the Breaking the Rules series. I jumped in at book 3, and prior events are mentioned, but I didn’t get the feeling that I needed full details of those events to appreciate or enjoy the story. As soon as I read the blurb, and learned that Cooper was a straight man questioning his sexuality I knew it was a must read. There’s a certain level of angst I find myself craving in books. This had it all.

Cooper Stanton and Ricky Burrows have known each other for a few years now. Ricky is Cooper’s sister Rebecca’s best friend and business partner. They have a tendency to clash because
Ricky always manages to get under Cooper’s skin. Cooper’s latest relationship has crashed and burned and he’s doing a lot of reflecting and wondering why he just can’t seem to find true love. He wants what his siblings have, true love and connection, but it continues to elude him.

When Cooper shows up single to his brother Sam’s wedding cruise, Ricky asks Cooper some tough questions that make him reflect on himself on a much deeper level. Apparently Ricky has seen something in Cooper that nobody else has. A smoldering chemistry makes itself blatantly obvious as the cruise passes.

What comes next is a journey of discovery for Cooper mostly, but Ricky also. Cooper comes to terms with his self discovery, but some other issues arise that may throw a wrench into their slowly growing relationship. How does a straight man adjust to a new “label”? How does a gay man build something real with someone who’s lived their whole life as a straight man?

This book was such a revelation. A.M. explored such deep emotions and aspects of what the characters experienced. I so love a book that delves deep into the heart and mind of the characters. I like to think I’m an empathetic person, so when I read books that cause me the pain and joy the characters feel, I know I’m reading something truly magical. I also love when books make me think deeper about things I've always thought were straightforward. Upside Down is definitely worth the read.

*I received an ARC of Upside Down in exchange for an honest review.

Upside Down is the third book in the Breaking Rules books but by no means do you have to read them all to follow the story each can be read as a standalone.

Cooper Stanton middle child of 5, is a English Lit Professor and can talk about love but he's never found the one that makes his own heart beat wildly. Cooper has to attend his brothers wedding on the Cruise Ship his sister and her husband run along with the only man who seems to push his buttons Ricky Burrows business partner to his sister and her husband along with being his sisters best friend.

The chemistry between Cooper and Ricky is definitely burning and then Ricky has to open his arrogant mouth and throw Cooper for seven leaving him with a path of self discovery to walk. How can it be at 28 he's questioning his own sexuality, can he accept what he feels or will he deny it.

Ricky Burrows may be able to talk the talk but can he actually walk the walk after throwing Cooper into a tail spin he finds himself with some serious thinking to do himself, he's been hurt once before when his so called friend denied who he was or rather denied he was gay so when Cooper seems to be looking to take this to the next step he becomes guarded which in turn leads to ups and downs.

A M Madden has handled this subject with the care and compassion it requires along with giving us plenty of laughs and lots of hot chemistry.

Definitely a must read xx

I jumped into this book even though it is book three in a series where I haven't read the previous two books. I did this after reading a super positive review that piqued my interest, and I wasn't disappointed. As book three in the series there were some issues that came about because I was unfamiliar with the events of the previous books. This book starts with the marriage of a couple who were the leads in book two, and the couple from book one take prominent roles in this story. It worked out okay because A.M. Madden did a great job of catching me up on who everyone was, what their story was, and how they related to one another. I'd imagine that that might have irritated me if I was already familiar with the characters, but for me, a newbie, it was very helpful. However, because I hadn't read the other books there were some story lines that seemed a bit abrupt, and I wonder if that was because preliminary interactions had already occurred, and I was being thrown right into the middle of a situation that had already been set up. That's how I felt about Cooper and Ricky. It sure seemed like they had enough previous interactions to create immediate strong feelings between the two. Ricky was sure fast to jump into pressing Cooper into acknowledging his sexuality for a casual family acquaintance. Cooper was sure fast to have strong feelings of irritation toward Ricky for someone who lived several states away from the guy. That's why I wonder if stuff had happened in other books that made these reactions seem to flow more naturally. I'm hesitant to fault the story for this quick jump into the deep end of relationship interactions if the problem was mine for not reading the series in order.

With that said, I really enjoyed Cooper and Ricky's story. I appreciated the approach Madden took to this m/m romance. Cooper believed himself to be straight for his entire life, but Ricky's interactions with him at Sam's wedding, pushing him to be honest with himself about his sexuality, made Cooper evaluate who he was. I really did like this part of the story. It would throw your world into a bit of chaos to suddenly realize that maybe you weren't the person you thought you were. How do you allow yourself to feel things that you never allowed yourself to feel before. I haven't had to go through this myself, but I have a few friends who have, and it just felt authentic to me. Cooper didn't have a negative reaction to his change in realization. He just had to wrap his head around a new way of seeing himself, and it took a moment. But this was not an entire book about Cooper figuring things out. Cooper was able to get on board with his feelings pretty quickly. Suddenly the book changes, and the angst is coming from Ricky, who begins this book as cocky and sure of himself, but shows himself to have some deep insecurities, especially when it comes to giving his heart away to someone else. Once this is revealed I would say that this book turns into more of a typical romance novel with two people trying to learn to trust one another in a new and exciting relationship. And I appreciated this as well. Substitute any two other romance novel couples for Cooper and Ricky, and I could find this same story over and over. I loved the routine of the story and the connection between these characters.

This book has a bit of angst in it, but not too much. There is insecurity to be navigated. There is fear that feelings aren't genuine ... this belief that something bad is going to happen because something bad always happens. That leads Ricky and Cooper to suffer a lack of growth in their relationship. But there never was a giant blow-up/breakup. Any breaks that occur are with the intention of FIXING things rather than ENDING things, and I adored this. I wish more romance writers could write relationship breaks in this sort of positive way. It is way less aggravating to read such events when you know two people are in love and just need to figure things out.

So I'm giving this four stars. I'm probably being a bit generous in that rating, but I liked the characters a lot. I liked the way that the relationship progressed. And I was captured enough by the story to have it fly by as I read, plus I'm intrigued enough about the secondary characters that I'm going to go back and read the other books in this series and continue with this into the future, so I'm sticking with four stars. I really liked it.

I was so torn up over this book. The hopeless romantic vs. the practical person kept having a battle in my head and overall I was fighting for the love between these two men.

Cooper is twenty-eight and has only dated women his entire life, but with each failed relationship he knows something is missing he just doesn't know what. He was a hopeless romantic, but mostly he just felt hopeless as he continued to fail at love. Then one drunken night when he kisses Ricky (his sister's best friend), he could chalk that moment up as a drunken mistake, but when weeks pass and he can't stop thinking about it he knows he can't pass it off as a drunken mistake.

The decision to pursue a relationship with Ricky didn't come easy, especially when he didn't like labels associated with the changes and emotions he was going through and the box society wanted to put him in, especially after twenty-eight years of being attracted to women Cooper knew his attraction to Ricky wasn't going away. It was powerful and something he'd never experienced before. He knew he wanted to pursue that connection more to see where it would go. That hopeful romantic knew what he wanted and he wanted Ricky.

Ricky was practical and had a tendency to self-sabotage his relationships. Years ago his first ever chance at love was with a man who wasn't out of the closet and Ricky still bore the scars of it, so he wasn't looking for a repeat in Cooper who was just beginning his journey out of the closet only to decide to duck back inside again. However, Cooper was tenacious and with each encounter was working his way under Ricky's skin.

The practical side of my brain was totally on Ricky's side. I understood why he didn't want to invest in Cooper if Cooper wasn't going to stick around for the long haul, however, when Cooper was being upfront and laying himself bare, the romantic in me had a hard time staying in the Ricky camp because....hello....it's love.

I continually waffled back and forth between my two sides, which made for a wonderfully told story. Top that off with some steamy scenes and Upside Down was a great book.

Upside Down was my first book by A.M. Madden and in all honesty I was looking forward to reading it based solely on the blurb. I am a huge fan of MM romances and this book is that, with the added benefit of being a forbidden/best friends brothers romance as well.

Cooper is a professor of English Literature. He has strong family ties and is in a steady relationship with a woman. Despite this he is lost, confused, unsatisfied. Something in his life is wrong and he can’t quite put his finger on it.

Ricky is a well established, strong willed, free spirit. He lives life to the fullest and is enjoying working with his two best friends. Openly gay, he is comfortable with his sexuality but not looking for a commitment.

Ricky see’s a bit of himself in Coop and understands that the man is hiding his true self. Although he is obviously attracted to women, Cooper is equally attracted to men - one man - Ricky. To say that Cooper’s reaction to Ricky calling him out is anger and denial is putting it mildly. But, and there is a but, he recognizes that there is also an element of truth in it.

Watching Cooper’s journey of self discovery, his struggle, his pain, his anxiety, his truth, made this a truly touching story, and I couldn’t help but fall a bit in love with both main characters, as they worked their way towards finding love and acceptance, in the arms of their person.

Upside Down gets the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval. TBR and Enjoy!

A brilliant story from the brilliant mind of A.M. Madden.
The reviewer for this book in our blog was L. Rose Harper. Usually our fantasy/paranormal reader, L. Rose Harper was drawn to this story as she recently became "enlightened" concerning her sexuality.

Cooper was just your average guy. Professor of English Lit, well read on all the romance but when it came to his love life there was always something amiss.
Along comes his sister's friend and business partner, Ricky with a drunken kiss that sets his mind reeling. While Cooper struggles with his sexuality Ricky has some demons that haunt him from his past. The two men need to come to terms with their attraction and discover what will truly make them happy.
Beautiful story of love and self discovery. I really connected with the characters and their struggle to find their true paths.
A.M. Madden is a genius with her words in describing the struggle many go through when discovering their sexuality and the hardships of revealing it to family and friends.

Received an ARC for a review. I wasn’t sure what to expect. This was a beautiful story. The emotions were so real. I loved both Cooper and Ricky. It had angst ( my favorite), humor, hot sex and lots of love!!!! I was so into this book I read today instead of doing my work . Now I have to catch up tonight. But so worth it!!!

Going into this story, I wasn’t aware that it was part of a series, let alone Book 3, although it mattered not one bit.
This was a fabulous, perfectly-paced tale with fully fleshed out and developed characters, about self-discovery and finding your person.
The balance of humor, angst, cockiness, and heart was flawless. Cooper and Ricky will forever live in my heart.
HIGHLY Recommend.

2.75 stars. What could have been a lovely story, was sadly overruled by too much hemming and hawing, overanalyzing and people getting into each others business. The emotional back and forth and the lack of space for the actual romance to bloom made me lose interest. Even in the end essential things were glossed over, instead of worked out.

Upside Down is an enemy to lovers MM romance.

I wasn't 100% into this book. I enjoyed Cooper's character, though I was not a fan of Ricky's. He did grow on me as the book went on, but I could not figure out why Cooper wanted even to entertain the idea of this guy.

The story intrigued me initially, and I was right with where the story was going, but then it just fizzled out, and I lost interest. There is a bit of a slow burn in this book, which I don't mind at all. I love me a good slow burn, so that wasn't the problem for me. I more lost interest in the story.

Sometimes a book just isn't the one, and this one wasn't it for me.

I've had the pleasure of reading books by this author before and enjoyed the emotional ups and downs permeating her stories along with discovering characters that are easy to relate to. This latest release gives readers all that and more in a tale of a man who discovers what's always been missing in his life when an unexpected romance blooms while celebrating his brother's destination wedding. It's not long before the joy of new love, and the impact of self-introspection amidst heartfelt talks, pushes this new couple out into the open while pulling at my heartstrings every step of the way.

Cooper Stanton's a college lit professor who's well-liked by all, seen as reliable and respected. He's a man who talks about romance every day, believes in it, but is completely hapless when it comes to real life romance for himself. He's dated some truly wonderful women over the years, but he never considered any of them to be "the one" and is still single while watching all of his family members find their HEAs. His most recent break-up was especially heartbreaking as his family adored her and he's now left dealing with the fallout of them ending things during the celebration of his brother's wedding. Attending the wedding doesn't go at all like Cooper thought it would though as it ends up being a time of self-revelation and the discovery of a love that he's only dreamed of before. Embracing that love means accepting a different side to himself, applying a new label to what others have seen but that he's ignored until this eye-opening weekend. It wasn't an easy journey for him but once he committed to what his heart so blatantly wanted he was totally on board. He had to prove himself as his heart's desire had lingering pain from a past relationship, but Cooper proved himself worthy regarding all the romantic heroes he's read about in a romance that was sweet and sensual. I liked Cooper from the very start as he was sweet and caring, an all-around good guy who I was rooting for through each new high and low. His self-introspection endeared him to me while pushing every one of my emotional buttons in a journey that was both timely and realistically addressed and I applaud the author for her handling of his coming out.

Ricky Burrows is a friend and business partner to Cooper's sister and has been butting heads with Cooper for years. Not only that, but the two recently shared a drunken kiss that neither have been able to forget about. Seeing the newly-single Cooper again brings all their unrequited feelings to the surface, leading to lots of soul searching in a romance full of angst, heart, and soul that kept me glued to the pages. Ricky always knew that Cooper was hiding from the truth which fueled much of their bickering over the years...as does the intense connection stemming from their recent kiss which he knows he can never act on. Or maybe he can act on it as Cooper discovers he can no longer hide from the truth with Ricky acting as a solid support to him in his journey of self-discovery, a journey that was life-altering for both of them. The road to HEA hasn't been easy for Ricky either as his last boyfriend decided to stay in the closet which has left him leery of opening his heart again. He doesn't want to be another man's dirty little secret or be a sexual experiment to someone just testing the waters. Ricky just wants to be loved but it will take a lot to win his jaded and bruised heart. Luckily Cooper has the words from classic romance books to help him win Ricky over and I enjoyed the sensual dance these two engaged in as it warmed my heart while making me blush a time or two.

On a whole this was a well-crafted story that gave good insight into both of the heroes, showed how fragile love could make them as well as the strength it engendered in them. Cooper's journey was one of self-acceptance and it was a cheer-worthy one, made even better by his loving and supportive family. Ricky had to learn how to trust again, be willing to put his heart on the line for happiness as Cooper more than proved himself worthy of Ricky's love in their empowering romance. Though this is part of a series it stands strongly on its own, never making me feel as if I'm missing out on something by not having read the two previous books. The romance itself was sweet and sensual, teeming with sexual tension from the very start. The banter between these two was both witty and combustible, making their scenes together crackle. This story grabbed me from the very first page to the last, captivating me with its empowering storyline and sizzling romance and I look forward to this author's next m/m-fueled romance!

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we get Ricky Borrows story (we met him in Love on the Horizon) and we get more information on Cooper "Coop" Stanton. Coop has just broken up with his latest girlfriend and can't seem to understand why he can't seem to find love like his siblings have. The kind where the person you are with really connects and wants you there. In his last relationship it was like all the others he loves the women but only as friends not that I want to be your life partner kind of love. So when he goes to his brother Sam's (from Hostile Workplace) wedding which he is the best man he wonders will he ever find what his siblings have including Sam with all of its problems in the middle of their relationship. His other problem Ricky, he feels like all he does is over analyze him and what he wants is a whole to craw into. Ricky can't help but want to help Coop realize what he truly is a gay man. The thing is he isn't looking to be with him but wants to help release him. The more time they are together though the more there is a spark he can't deny. The bigger issue is he has already been with a guy who didn't want to acknowledge what he was and be open with him. He is sure he isn't up for that emotional mind field again. What will happen if these two give this a real shot will they find the HEA they have both always wanted or is the heartbreak train about to pull into the station?

This is an amazing hit out of the park by this author. Each of the stories I referenced above add to the story but do not have to be read to understand and appreciate this one. This is a M/M book if this isn't your cup of tea be forewarned. It does have its ups and downs I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin the story for any other readers. I will say this book will have you hooked from page one and won't want to put it down after you read those two words "the end". I would highly recommend it to anyone.

(4 stars)

So first off... oops, didn't realize this was part of a trilogy when I signed up to read. All this means is that there are a lot of mentions of the previous couples, you get the vibe that they have books but it didn't really matter when it came to reading Ricky and Cooper's story. Cooper has watched his siblings find their one and he knows that the relationship he has with his girlfriend is not in the same category. He doesn't feel completed, and he is not willing to settle for anything but his one. Going to Florida for his brother's wedding has now turned into something less fun knowing he will have to explain why he is single again. The one person he is not looking forward to seeing is Ricky, his sister's best friend, but seeing as the wedding is on their boat it's not like he will be able to avoid him. It's not until Ricky plants a seed of doubt and they share a kiss that Cooper's world is completely turned upside down. How could he feel things for a man when he has always been with women? What Cooper does know, is that he can't get Ricky out of his head, and that he feels things he never felt before. Ricky has past hurts that make him keep up his guard, but he knows that Cooper has the ability to hurt him. Will the two be willing to take this huge risk and see if it pays off?

I really enjoyed Ricky and Cooper's story, I couldn't get enough of this story. With the drama, the gay for you plot, some ok naughty bits, and a great cast of characters. I give this 4 stars.

Cooper is the middle child of five siblings and he definitely gives off the middle child syndrome of not feeling like he fits in but always putting his best foot forward to help and please everyone. Except his girlfriends - he just can't seem to find the one that sets him on fire. And right before he is set to leave on a cruise for his brother's wedding his most current girlfriend breaks up with him. So he is not looking forward to having to explain another failed relationship to his family. What he really wasn't prepared for was Ricky to turn his world upside down by saying that maybe the reason he wasn't clicking with anyone was because he wasn't being honest with himself - that maybe he actually preferred men.

Once again I found myself reading a book that was part of a series that I wasn't aware of. Didn't matter. I didn't feel lost or confused or that I was missing a big chunk of the story. This a complete standalone. I really enjoyed this story - the pacing was perfect, the writing was great, I loved all the characters, truly a great story. I loved how each of the mains had their struggles that they had to overcome or come to terms with - that it wasn't just Cooper that had issues to deal with. I really respected that aspect of their story. And Cooper and Ricky had it all - they were funny and steamy and fun and steamy and challenging and steamy and cute . . . did I say steamy? My only issue is that we didn't get to see either one of their epiphanies and that felt like a bit of let down to me. BUT, I still really enjoyed the heck out of this book and would highly recommend it to all my m/m loving peeps.

Now I need Riana's story.

Upside Down is a standalone in AM Madden's Breaking The Rules series, but I loved the supporting characters so much that I have put the first two books on my TBR list! The books have interconnected characters, and past events are talked about, but I didn't feel like I was missing out for not having read them.

Cooper is such a likable character. He is truly at a crossroads in his personal life when he attends his brother's wedding. Immediately upon seeing his sister's business partner, Ricky, again, sparks fly and they kind of catch Cooper off-guard. But not really: he experimented a bit in college, and always had difficulty fully committing to a girlfriend to take the next step. Ricky is super sweet and patient and supportive as Cooper grapples with the unexpected feelings and how his life is about to change.

AM Madden did a great job in telling this story. The journey that Cooper goes through in discovering his true identity and then coming out is a wonderful arc, from start to finish, and Ricky's support meant everything. Ricky truly turns Cooper's world upside down, but it's a beautiful story of self-discovery with a lot of heart.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

A M Madden is BRILLIANT! I have never really felt compelled to read a M/M book, but I have always trusted AM with her words, and I was not disappointed in any way. Love is love it has no colour or boundaries, and if any of us are able to find it we need to hold on tight, and this is exactly what Ricky & Cooper did, and not without some bumps in the road. Quite a few giggles with the fantastic snark & sarcasm that I secretly love.
This is what one man knows, and the other will discover his true self, with the help of his biggest cheerleader (his sister), as Cooper always felt he was heterosexual but never found any connection with women, even though he tried to love wholeheartedly. Ricky has been hurt quite badly early on in his life and is certainly guarded, but has the support of all his friends and family to find his person.
You can certainly read this book as a stand alone, but I love how former character's are woven into this brilliant story.
AM Madden you keep doing what you do, and I will joyfully follow you down your beautifully written works of art.

Although this is part of a series, I read this as a standalone and it definitely worked. I adored Cooper and Ricky's story! The writing and pacing are extremely well done; the characters and their backstories are introduced at the right times, and not once did I fail to follow along. The character development follows the pace of the book superbly, and it suits the slow burn as Cooper struggles to come to terms with his sexuality and Ricky builds up walls around his heart. I liked how the first half of the book focused on Cooper's uncertainty with both who he is, and with how he feels about Ricky in particular, and then once he embraced it, he was all in. The second half then really focuses on their relationship and Ricky's fears of fully letting himself be with Cooper. My heart hurt for how lonely they've both been in the past, and together they made it whole again when they realised they found that forever love in each other.

Upside Down is a truly beautiful and romantic love story, and a stellar debut by this author into the world of M/M romance.

Well this book just goes to show what a gifted writer A.M.Madden is!
This book is a beautiful story about finding out who you really are, finding that one true love and soulmate and also finding your sexuality and coming out.
Cooper and Ricky will have you emotionally full as they navigate through of their fears, hopes and dreams. But as with all relationships no matter what gender, there are obstacles and fears that need to be overcome. They are so completely different in personalities but while reading you can feel how perfect that are for each other.
I have absolutely adored them and their journey together. Their families and the roles they play are perfect in this book. It’s really nice just to feel the support and love that they give these two.
Is this book hot and steamy hell yes, but with that you get to laugh and feel all different emotions throughout it. Plain and simple it’s just a beautiful read and one I throughly enjoyed.
A.M.Madden has taken the bulls by the horn and given us a story that will open your heart and your mind.

I kept reading continually until The End..

Cooper always wonders why his romances never feel complete , he feel that there is something missing ..
His friends and his siblings have wonderful lives with families and little people as well..
His latest ex is also a magnificent friend, their friendship is outstanding ..

Ricky is a business partner to Cooper's sister , he knows about Cooper's failing love life.. Both men get together Ricky wants to discuss Cooper's situation if Cooper is willing to listen...
The words that fell out of Ricky's mouth into Cooper's ears astounded him …
How would you know, asks Cooper !
How they get to understand and know more of each other is written so well .
The whole book has everything that I need , I adore m/m books and this is up there with the best.. To watch Cooper grow see his confidence added with his freedom in his mind is wonderful..
Ricky, who has a past that he is trying to work out  understands now that not all feelings are one sided..

Before you worry that this is a book three of a series, don't be. You will be able to follow along regardless if you read book one or two prior to this one. It can be a standalone. That said, when you do pick up this book be prepared for some back and forth, emotions out the wazoo, and steam!

Cooper isn't happy. Something is always missing for him, and he can't figure it out. His last girlfriend was perfect, but something was still not quite right. Ricky is living life, but he is not looking for anything. But things have a way of happening. The story is well-written and pulls you in. The emotions feel real and I thoroughly enjoyed reading about these two men coming to terms with themselves and trying to find happiness. It was good, and it left me wishing there was a little more even though the ending doesn't leave me hanging. There were a few parts when I thought it dragged, but overall, it is a great story that needs to be read by everyone. 4 stars and I suggest you one-click today!

This is book 3 in a series. It is a standalone with prior events being mentioned but not taking over the story to the point I was lost.

Have you ever been living your life feeling like something is just off? Like, not everything is as it should be? Well, Cooper does. He is a great guy; intelligent, gorgeous, has a girlfriend... but something feels missing, I think.

In comes Ricky. A fun-loving man who, unlike Cooper, is a bit more outgoing. He's flirtatious and just enjoying life... reserved.

Walls are up. But, slowly, they come down as each of these men come to terms with themselves and finding true love. Imagine living your entire life and not fully being true to yourself. How can you truly love and appreciate love in return if you aren't living honestly? Ricky and Cooper find their way... to who they are and their true love.

I would recommend this one to all lovers of MM romance. It has the feels. It has the romance. It has laughs. And I think you will enjoy it.

This is the 3rd book in this amazing series and is Cooper and Ricky’s story. Cooper is an English Lit Professor, who is a hopeless romantic, and Ricky is his sisters’ best friend and business partner. After Cooper is dumped by yet another girlfriend, he is dreading having to explain to his family that he is single again when he goes to his brother’s wedding. Ricky is a fun guy who hides behind his smile and has walls built around his heart after being hurt one too many times. Ricky and Cooper are like petrol and a match and they fight as soon as they are in the same vicinity as Ricky challenges Cooper and know which buttons to press. When they share a kiss Cooper can finally admit he is attracted to Ricky. This is a well written story which has drama, emotions, and is humorous, entertaining, and a steamy read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend for all.

Upside Down by AM Madden is book 3 in the Breaking The Rules series. It can be read as a standalone, but after meeting the characters I downloaded the other books in the series.
Book 3 focuses on Cooper and is a M/M romance. Cooper is Rebecca’s brother from Book 1, Love on the Horizon. Cooper has had many relationships, but something was always missing. He has many dated women but experimented in college. Visiting his sister, he meets Ricky, her best friend and business partner.
Ricky is confident on the outside, but on the inside he has been hurt before. The two have a spark, and Ricky helps Cooper to explore and come to terms with his unexpected feelings.
I just loved Cooper. He was so open and willing and just wanted to find his person. There story was sweet and honest. From discovering his true self, to coming out to his friends and family, Madden did a wonderful job telling this story.
The story shows the deep feelings and emotions will finding your true self and discovering the deep inner feelings with being honest with yourself and those around you.
I definitely recommend this book!

I am a fan of A.M. Madden was thrilled when I read the description for Upside Down! I love MM romance stories and this one met all of my expectations. It really was a story about self discovery and sexual acceptance for Cooper. He is a romantic at heart and has been searching for that one person to make his life complete. He just never expected it to be a man who drove him crazy. Ricky has been out but has had his heart broken before and taking a chance on Cooper was a big risk for him. Fate has put them in each others path and neither of these amazing men could deny the attraction and connection that they had towards one another.
