In a dark and cutthroat instance of reality, Patrick T. Cosgrove stands tall as a “big man,” carving out a little piece of heaven for his upcoming retirement by any means necessary, and via his own unique zeal for his chosen profession. Still, Patrick remains subject to the unorthodox rules of his eccentric employer’s corporation and, when a young upstart threatens to take what’s his, one wrong step could turn the illustrious Mr. Cosgrove’s “retirement party” into a brutal, living hell.
From the author of "The Big Men," “309,” "Shards," “The Nemesis Effect,” "Big Man Down," “500,” and “The Spiral and The Threads” comes an all-new tale from The Nod/Wells Timelines that's sure to satisfy fans of horror, thrillers, suspense, and the universe established in those other works.
This story is included in the author's collection, "8: Tales of The Big Men from The Nod/Wells Timelines."
Michael Shotter is a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a lover of science, fiction, and fantasy, his works aim to push beyond the boundaries of traditional genre fiction into new and exciting realms born from literary craftsmanship.
In a soft apocalypse, one moves up in a corporation by winning a fist fight against one's superior. A guy who is almost retirement age is challenged by a kid from the mailroom. Exactly what this corporation does is anybody's guess. It's set in a "universe" of other books I haven't read, so I'm not up on everything. Effective, but not the story to start with.
I had a blast with this one, and Shotter's an author I have quickly grown to admire. His style is unique, and you're gonna have a great time with anything he writes. Highly recommended!
This was my first read from the author, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.
Hostile Takeover is a short, sharp, and refreshingly unique tale of speculative fiction. It centres around a "Big Man's" planned retirement in a rather cutthroat business.
I look forward to reading more of Shotter's work and learning more about the Big Men.
