Hörbuch: Da es bereits der 3. Teil ist, kann man zum Inhalt ohne zu spoilern nicht viel sagen. Aber für mich wieder ein wunderbares Abenteuer mit Bethany und Ebenezer. Alle drei Bände werden großartig von Mechthild Großmann gesprochen.

Battle Of The Beast is Book #3 in The Beast And The Bethany series of children’s stories. These books have a suggested reading age of 8 years and above.
In this story, the Beast is about to be released from imprisonment after a drastic change in its diet and behaviour. Bethany and Ebenezer, her 512-year-old friend, have been changing in their own ways to become helpful neighbourhood ‘do-gooders’. They are particularly sceptical about the Beast’s new self, but they reluctantly agree to look after him once more.
This is the first book in this series that I have read, it was still enjoyable but I think that reading the first two books in the series would make the reading experience much better. There’s a lot that might appeal to the target age group of readers; a wonderful sweet shop, large quantities of vomit, magical mayhem and an array of colourful creatures and interesting human characters.
The book is sprinkled with black and white illustrations and I particularly liked the turquoise page edging which compliments the delightful book cover.

De terugkeer van het beest is het derde deel met Bethany (en het beest). Op de cover zien we de tanden en tongen van het beest. Wat je moet weten: het beest wil Bethany opeten.
Mijn leeservaring:
Bethany is het stoute meisje dat je als lezer in je hart sluit. Ze misdraagt zich, maar als je door die laag heen kijkt, zie je toch een lief meisje. Bethany en Peregrinus zijn heel erg bezig met goeddoen. Hoewel ze eerst slecht deden, proberen ze nu goed te doen. Wanneer het beest weer ben hen gaat wonen, gelooft Bethany er niks van maar Peregrinus is eerder overtuigd dat het beest echt veranderd is.
Tussendoor lees je vanuit de papegaai Mortimer, een vriend van Claudette. Claudette hebben we in het vorige boek goed leren kennen. Maar het beest heeft iets met haar uitgehaald waardoor ze nu heel erg ziek is. Mortimer wil daarom graag wraak nemen op het beest.
De terugkeer van het beest is een boek waar veel gebeurtenissen plaats vinden. De personages maken ook allemaal een groei mee. Het boek is voor kinderen vanaf 10 jaar. Waarschijnlijk is het al iets eerder voor te lezen. Het personage Eduardo heeft elke dag een moeilijk woord wat hij leert, wat het ook leerzaam maakt voor kinderen (en volwassenen).
Kortom, weer een fantasierijk avontuur met Peregrinus, Bethany en het beest. Het einde kan betekenen dat er nog een boek komt of dat het hiermee klaar is. Maar we hopen natuurlijk op meer!

Denne serien fortsetter å være original og morsom! Veldig irriterende å lese når beistet hadde babystemme, men barn vil sikkert like det!

Das deutsche Hörbuch war sooooo gut!! Das Biest ist derart wunderbar gelesen, dass ich es gleich zweimal hören musste.
Biest und Bethany ist eine Kinderbuchserie, die ein wenig aus der Reihe tanzt. Zwar ist Bethany inzwischen gut und spielt keine Streiche mehr, das Biest scheint geheilt und Ebenezer will den Leuten helfen, das heißt aber nicht, dass es nicht wieder jede Menge Chaos gibt, die eine oder andere böse Absicht sowie viel zum Lachen.

Battle of the Beast is the third book in the Beast and the Bethany series. So far in the series I think this might be my favorite for the storytelling aspects. I enjoyed the beast coming back, can't believe I said that as he's not a very nice guy 😅. And I am enjoying the friendship between the Ebenezer and Bethany.
There is some mild language in the book though for a middle grade level.

The Beast and the Bethany books (1-3) are books for pre-teens that don't disappoint in terms of their subject matter. Vainglorious egoist Ebenezer Tweezer has taken care of and served the huge beast in his attic with different kinds of food for over five hundred years. The beast has rewarded him with all of the material comforts one can think of as well with an elixir that keeps him young. But when the beast decides it wants to eat a child, Ebenezer finds himself in a bind, both morally and practically. Ebenezer goes on a search for a suitable child, and when he meets the bad-tempered orphan Bethany (that not even the orphanage wants), his dilemma is solved, or so he thinks. But when she comes to live with him, all hell breaks loose. A rude, destructive Bethany and an evil beast in the attic of Ebenezer's house can only lead to trouble. A lot of trouble.
The author has quite the imagination, and the books are easy to read. They are also surprising books given the world we live in at present; the beast decides it wants to eat a child after having developed a taste for humans. But Bethany has other plans, once she finds out what's in store for her. The books are a fun roller coaster ride into a strange world, where people (and parrots) travel via puddle portals, where rare parrots sing beautifully and lay eggs that contain all kinds of food, where material items vomited out by the beast have minds of their own. The author has been compared to Roald Dahl, which is apt, but I also found myself thinking of Neil Gaiman's books for children/young adults (The Ocean at the End of the Lane, Coraline). Book 4 remains, and from what I can judge of the ending for Book 3, the beast appears to have had a change of heart about his evil behavior. That should be a fun ride.

Mohlo by sa zdať, že mladý pán Ebenezer je 20 ročný mladík. Opak je však pravdou. Na svojich 511 rokov vyzerá mlado a hlavne živo. Aké je jeho tajomstvo ?
Vo svojom podkroví ukrýva monštrum, ktoré ho udržuje v mladom veku. Stačí, ak bude Ebenezer beštii plniť priania a zakaždým jej na jedenie donesie niečo zaujímavé. Tento krát si však beštia rozkázala doniesť naozaj zaujímavú pochúťku - ľudské dieťa.
Bethany je sirota, ktorá nemá nikoho a nie je to zrovna poslušné dievčatko. Ebenezer v Bethany vidí príležitosť, ako beštii splniť jej prianie. V jednom sa však prerátal. Bethany totižto nenechá so sebou zametať.
Musím povedať, že takýchto strašidelných kníh pre mladých čitateľov nie je veľa. Príbeh je poučný, vtipný ale častokrát aj strašidelný a trošku morbídny. Beštia totižto rada papá všetko do radu a keď som si prečítala ako po zjedení človeka vygrgla ucho, nebolo mi všetko jedno 😃 Nenechajte sa však znechutiť, kniha má aj pekné myšlienky.
Každá časť ma bavila inak. Prvá kniha je jednoznačne najstrašidelnejšia, druhá je o návrate beštie a posledná bola veľmi vtipná.
Ak hľadáte strašidelnú sériu pre mladého čitateľa na dlhé jesenné dni, určite odporúčam. Kniha ma vnútri okrem väčších písmen aj dokonalé ilustrácie.

The beast is back! And it's nice? That can't be right, can it? But it looks like it might be and now Bethany and Ebenezer have to deal with that.
I love the premise of BATTLE OF THE BEAST - what happens when someone who has wronged you seems to have a change of heart? Can you accept that? Do you try to prove it cannot be true? Make the most of it? Bethany and Ebenezer react differently, neither of which are the healthiest approach.
I really liked that they had to take responsibility for the trouble that caused. I have seen too much media where the heroes cause the problems but the villain takes the blame but that does not happen here. It means they both have to grow so much more by acknowledging their mistakes before they can fix them.
The book is as quirky and as much fun as the others, and hearing the beast speak in baby-talk is very amusing. Definitely a series to pick you up when you're feeling down!
You get a sense that this is the end of one arc of the series, with certain major milestones and events being reached. There are more books coming (yay!) but the little teaser at the end of this book hints that the new arc will have a different central thread (and it looks exciting!)

Loved the final book in this series...or is it??? Has the potential to have a fourth and final book how this came to a close.
Really enjoyed being back with Bethany, Ebenezer and of course the return of the Beast.
These books are absolutely cracking and I have thoroughly enjoyed this series.
Won't give much away about this book as it is a final book in series so it wouldn't be fair.
There were a number of lol moments and it was good to see characters from previous books back in this one.

3.5⭐️ so glad I finally found this audiobook somewhere (thank you Spotify) and now I’ve nearly finished the series!
I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first two, but I still had a good time. The narrator is fab, they nailed each character which just makes it that little bit more engaging. Good storyline throughout and who knew middle grade could have such cliffhangers?! I’m so intrigued to find out more about Bethany’s parents 👀

Grappig leesboek, leuke humor, leest redelijk vlot weg en is mooi doorlopend vervolg deel van de vorige twee delen. Enigszins lastig apart te lezen, al is het niet geheel onmogelijk. Hoe dan ook, de verandering(en) van het beest is wel mooi beschreven. Je gaat bijna soort van medelijden voelen. Dat het toch goed zal aflopen, voel je wel aankomen, o.a ook doordat het een kinderboek is. Desondanks blijft er wel spanning.

Yay… book #3 of this series is laugh out loud hilarious, we are busy with a party, seeing who is best, meeting the neighbours, try to ignore dorris, taste test candy and consider memory erasure.
Fabulous third collection of words thank you Jack Meggitt-Phillips and the vocalizations of Barnaby Edwards are superb, much appreciated gentlemen. :-)

Another story telling to adventures of Bethany and the beast, these books are really nice to read, easy to read so you get pulled Into the story and want to read more, if you read the other books you no a little bit about what the beast can do, and there are bits in the books that you think are going one way but go another .

This was okay, but maybe a little chaotic, plot-wise. Somehow the second and third books of this series just can’t seem to recapture the same charm and humor of the first book. But we generally enjoyed it.

It was easy to read. I liked the story building but in the end it was a bit too soft.

…vtipné, poučné, opäť slizké…
Presne také je aj tretie pokračovanie série BEŠTIA A BETHANY s názvom BEŠTIIN BOJ.
V prvej časti sme sa zoznámili s huncútkou Bethany, ktorá vtrhla do predlhého života Ebenezerovi a jeho Beštii. V pokračovaní ich príbehu sme sa dozvedeli o tom, ako sa Ebenezer spoznal s Beštiou a v závere sa to celé zamotalo špeciálnou tajnou agentúrou, (ne)známou ako DOROTA. Beštiin boj sa začína vo Wintlorii, mieste, kde žije jedinečný druh wintloriánskych papagájov. Áno, medzi postavami sa mihol Patrick (nech mu je sliz ľahký) a aj naša obľúbená spevácka hviezda Claudette. Mortimer, wintloriánsky chránenec Claudette, ju chce pomstiť, a tak sa vydá na dlhú cestu k 15-poschodovému domu Ebenezera Tweezera.
Ako som na začiatku spomenula, tento príbeh je znovu písaný veľmi vtipne a zároveň poučne. V predchádzajúcich dieloch bola Bethany neposlušné dieťa, robila kadejaké darebáctva a ľudia ju preto nemali veľmi radi. Napriek tomu sa rozhodla, že spolu s Ebenezerom budú robiť dobré skutky, aj keď nevedeli ako na to, snažili sa. Práve v tejto časti išlo najmä o to, či si každý zaslúži druhú šancu, či sa každý dokáže zmeniť k lepšiemu, či sa oplatí dôverovať niekomu, kto vás opakovane sklamal. Práve Bethany bola veľmi neústupčivá a tvrdila, že zmena v lepšie nie je možná, pričom sama dostala druhú šancu od ľudí v susedstve aby dokázala, že je dobrý človek, že vie byť nápomocná a dokáže robiť aj dobré skutky.
Taktiež sa tu ukazuje sila priateľstva medzi Claudette a Mortimerom, Bethany a Claudette, Ebenezerom a Bethany, či Bethany a Geoffreym. Najmä v závere ma hrialo pri srdci, pretože úvodným príbehom sa zdalo, že je Bethany osamelá a nechcená.
Malinký detail, ktorý mi udrel do oka je, že Ebenezer, vo svojich 512 rokoch nestarne, napriek tomu, že už mu Beštia nezabezpečuje elixír… či som len zabudla a v predošlej časti sa to nejako doriešilo aj bez Beštie alebo na to autor Jack proste zabudol?
V každom prípade, záver knižky poteší každého fanúšika Bethany a jej priateľov, pretože séria nekončí… už nám teda len zostáva čakať na ďalšie napínavé príbehy.

V predchádzajúcich dieloch bola Bethany neposlušné dieťa, robila kadejaké darebáctva a ľudia ju preto nemali veľmi radi. Napriek tomu sa rozhodla, že spolu s Ebenezerom budú robiť dobré skutky, aj keď nevedeli ako na to, snažili sa. Práve v tejto časti išlo najmä o to, či si každý zaslúži druhú šancu, či sa každý dokáže zmeniť k lepšiemu, či sa oplatí dôverovať niekomu, kto vás opakovane sklamal. Práve Bethany bola veľmi neústupčivá a tvrdila, že zmena v lepšie nie je možná, pričom sama dostala druhú šancu od ľudí v susedstve aby dokázala, že je dobrý človek, že vie byť nápomocná a dokáže robiť aj dobré skutky.
Taktiež sa tu ukazuje sila priateľstva medzi Claudette a Mortimerom, Bethany a Claudette, Ebenezerom a Bethany, či Bethany a Geoffreym. Najmä v závere ma hrialo pri srdci, pretože úvodným príbehom sa zdalo, že je Bethany osamelá a nechcená.
Malinký detail, ktorý mi udrel do oka je, že Ebenezer, vo svojich 512 rokoch nestarne, napriek tomu, že už mu Beštia nezabezpečuje elixír… či som len zabudla a v predošlej časti sa to nejako doriešilo aj bez Beštie alebo na to autor Jack proste zabudol?
V každom prípade, záver knižky poteší každého fanúšika Bethany a jej priateľov, pretože séria nekončí… už nám teda len zostáva čakať na ďalšie napínavé príbehy.

This series is such a sweet little thing, and I love revisiting these characters. This book really let the characters shine and grow, and I loved getting to read it.
