Book 4 in this unique twist on isekai fantasy in the next LitRPG Adventure by bestseller Blaise Corvin, author of Delvers LLC and Apocalypse Cultivation.
Blaise Corvin served in the US Army in several roles. He has seen the best and the worst that humanity has to offer. He is a sucker for any hobby involving weapons, art, or improv.
He currently lives in Texas, in a house full of enough geeky memorabilia to start a museum.
He likes talking about himself in 3rd person and posting pictures of himself holding tarantulas. Sometimes, he pretends he is not an idiot with a terrible sense of humor.
It's all very eccentric.
Blaise currently writes mostly in the GameLit genre and LitRPG subgenre, exciting new classifications of fiction where characters either play a game (usually VR), or live in a world with game-like elements.
Delvers LLC is GameLit, lightly LitRPG, mostly a Fantasy/SciFi Adventure. Secret of the Old Ones is hard LitRPG, complete with XP and leveling...plus has Lovecraftian and steampunk elements (because why not?).
I am cheap. So, when I buy a book that I have already read on Royal Road to support the author's work, it must be good. I am waiting to hit the button on Amazon when this is released.
The weird thing is, I can't figure out WHY I like this story!
The protagonist does random altruistic things that make no sense. Periodically, he is ruthless...which I do like. And, he is usually intelligent and rational in his actions.
I am currently reading this on Royal Road while I await the release.
For some unknown reason, the humor and sarcasm resonate with me. I am not crazy about the character being jumped around to multiple worlds in the series, but that has not chased me away quite yet.
ADDENDUM: I just read a fight scene that felt like it lasted for 12 Chapters. I had to go back and actually count. I was wrong. It only lasted from chapter 20 to 26 (27?) It just felt like forever. I found myself skimming scrolling to find the end of the 1960s Batman like "Pow, Bam, Swish, Zowie!", with moments of bad guy monologue. I "know" that the protagonist eventually wins the fight (or the book would end), but the trip to that resolution was slow and painful.
I wouldn't categorize myself of having a lot of experience with this author's work. It's unfortunate that the first story I read by this author is one that looks to have been abandoned by him. I can't help but let that taint how I look at authors when that happens. It's particularly devastating when the author is new to me or doesn't have a sizable backlog I can imagine. So if the writing is good enough for me to come back and try a different story it really is because the author does a fantastic job. There are no stories by this author where I have reached the last book in the series. I believe he's got one or two that are completed. I have my fingers crossed that this one makes it to the end and that the gentleman is able to stick the landing. I'm not talking a lot about this specific entry into the story because it was under 300 pages. I found myself at the ending of the book way too quickly. There's a few things that happened that feel very rushed, but with how this author writes I don't know that you could have done it any other way. This entry basically covers our main character going back to the world where he was the hero and rapping everything up in sub 300 pages. I don't know whether or not the author intends to talk more about it in the next book. Possibly just having the main character relay what happened to him in a quick chat before moving on. It's possible that the character will return to the first world, but I don't think so.
Let me start by saying that.I really have enjoyed all 4 books So far, as far as the story goes.
There seems to be a trend in kindle books that there is no proof reading or editing. Just type some words and be done with it.
Naming the character wrong? Oh well they'll figure it out!
"Auto correct" changes the word into some nonsensical... They'll figure it out!
Change the story up and make the sequence different than the chapter before? They'll figure it out!
Allude to a specific subject and then ignore without explanation... Let them use their imagination and figure it out for themselves.
You get involved with the story, engrossed in living it, and then one of those occurred that just pops you right out and makes you go , "huh!" Sadly, i doubt any of these obvious mistakes will ever be corrected in the story nor in most of the kindle unlimited editions.
Follow Max and his escapades. It's. Frigginawesome!
I don't care, at this moment, that bk3 was kinda bridgey, 'cause this was som'min else! And yeah we needed it, because this book was right on the money. In this book Max went for the throat, getting payback for his murder and his wife's death. And also he had been vilified by the very man who murdered him! And Max wasn't the same man that had died on this world... he really wasn't and with the Spirit Beast's he'd bonded with he was ready. Max was ready to go toe to toe to win or die fighting for his life!!! And yeah, there's plenty of pop-cultural references to keep you laughing 😃! So yeah grab this book and find out how everything shakes out. Will the world of Albion survive 🤔?!?
Here's a quote:
"... you're boring a lot, so sometimes I just think about Calvin and Hobbes comics instead of paying attention to whatever nonsense you are doing.
Well, this was a really interesting story with intereting characters
After being sucked into the void after an assination attempt, the MC escapes back onto his original world. There he has to clean up some unfinished business with the bro-in-law that betrayed and murdered him before he can make his way back to earth. Of course he also needs to level while there so he can take care of business.
Really enjoyed the writing and the insights into the way people justify the things they do, especially when they are a*s-hats.
Alternate universe, leveling, portals, alien races, reincarnation, mana
Max's visit home to Albion reveals the depth of corruption that has settled into his world, and he decides it's not something he can abide. Hopefully, in the space between the last chapter and the epilogue, Livinia was able to check on her own family, because the rest of the time, Max was focused on his own goals. Excellent editing. To quote a famous internet meme, "Moah, plz!"
The few typos I found did not stop me from enjoying this story, mostly. The Dragonball-esk fight scenes; multiple chapter battles, mid fight power ups, and terrain destroying moves, got a chuckle out of me but they do get old fast. So I ask the author to slim down the epic fights and save the DB style battle format for the big series ending fight.
Dude, you're misspelling your own fucking main character's name. Edit your shit.
also: i was so excited to see him back on his original world, and you instantly attach a super annoying side character to him out of nowhere. Super disappointing.
I really enjoyed the book. It fills in a ton of background Chassa de Milo’s past life and his home world. Also it was great that he had closure on that part of the story
Great continuation of the series!!! All books so far have been great and this last book continued that streak. Also appreciate the lack of profanity. Looking forward to next book!
This book was not my favorite it really seemed rushed very slow focused more random comedy relief female character which something I really dislike in books I will likely read the next book but if it continues like I will not read anymore
Good stuff, now I want some plot for the main storyline. Too many side quests and a book every 13 months might lead a man to forget who the characters are.
Good story and it progresses well here. Nice that a major nemesis gets finally dealt with, but the MC has a lot more fish to fry. Pity it'll probably be a year or so for book 5.
