He took my innocence and made my world spiral out of control. Now, he’s back. After nine years, there are three reasons I should stay away. For one, Matt is my boss. On top of that, he is my older brother’s best friend and business partner at the most prestigious law firm in the country. And to make things worse, Matt doesn’t know about our son.

Matt Dawson, with his cool blue eyes and dominating persona, can send shivers down my spine with a single touch. His forearms are stronger than my resolve to resist him. And I know that he won’t stop until he makes me gasp and tremble with pleasure again.

Hiding our son’s existence complicates things, but it’s my brother who is the gravest concern. If he discovers that Matt is the father of my child - or even that Matt and I are together - he would be angry enough to kill.

And murder is something he is more than capable of doing.

But Matt would go to unimaginable lengths to protect his family...

GENRE: Second Chance Romance
NARRATION: Dual POV Hero/Heroine
BOOK DETAILS: Standalone
AUDIO AVAILABLE? No

Firstly, congratulations to Summer on her first published book. The book is well written and edited and I loved the cover.

The bones of this story were good, it just all went all too quickly. I would have like to have felt more of a slow burn, push and pull between the character, adding more angst and enticement for the reader. I felt detached from the Matt and Amanda as characters, their emotions are not expressed enough for me to connect their motives with their action, everything went too fast and their conflict was resolved way too easy. It comes across as too unconvincing.

For me as a reader I want to feel the hero/heroines passion and chemistry come alive and I just wasn’t able to get that unfortunately. The HEA was very brief and I feel an epilogue would have given more closure to the story.

I hate giving these type of reviews but I have to be honest to author and my intention is to assist the author with constructive criticism and not bring them and their hard work down. The potential is definitely there though with this new author to grow with her writing and due to that I would I would consider reading more from her in the future to her evolve. I was attentive throughout the entire story overall finding it a good, light and entertaining read.

Such a waste of my time.

Amanda, Matt and Brian were all dumb and crazy. Also, what's with all the contradictions? First, Amanda says she got pregnant at 18, then she says she met Matt when she was 19, then she says she got pregnant again at 18 after a brief relationship with Matt. Honey, sort out your math!

Take Me Back - a review by Rosemary Kenny

After reading this novel I honestly wondered how the main character Amanda Fisher managed to get through the day, let alone make a 9 year success of being a
single Mom and putting herself through college to become a fully fledged lawyer to boot, only to throw it all away potentially, by yielding to the 'man-slut' who got her pregnant and didn't even bother to find out why she disappeared after their microscopic 'fling', in this slightly uncomfortable secret romance and hidden baby tale, by the exceptional author in the genre, Summer Brooks.

Other socially sensitive issues include why Amanda feels attracted to a domineering, self-righteous unreliable man as (her boss and father of their love child Aaron), Matt Dawson in the first, let alone the second place, when we all know work-place romances are a recipe for disaster, even in the best of circumstances.
Is it because her cheating, hypocritical, controlling brother Brian has always dominated her since their childhood in Chicago, even though they're now both adults and should be independent despite working together at his legal business, where Matt is senior partner and Brian's best friend? Is she afraid of him?
Why did Amanda keep Aaron's parentage secret even after reuniting in a secret romance with Matt? Was she afraid he was still a playboy and therefore not a good role model for Aaron - or that he'd doubt her veracity in declaring him the father and reject her?
What was Matt/Brian's motive in uprooting Amanda from family and any friends in Chicago, (who might support her and/or question her decisions), to New York?
Why is Aaron not asking questions about who his father is at 8 years of age and does Amanda lie to him because she's afraid Brian might 'punish' her if he finds out Aaron's dad is Matt and that they're having a secret romance - ie does Brian (and wife Megan, whom Brian's been cheating on), not see/speak to Aaron at all?
Why does serial-dater Matt feel he has the right to dictate to his friend Brian that he must 'fix' his marriage (& stop cheating), or else, when he's so immoral himself?

By the time the book ends not all these questions have been addressed, but overall it's well-written and the storyline flows nicely. Perhaps another book in the series will continue the exploration of the characters' lives more fully? Get the book today and decide for yourself!

Wow, if the book could of been just a bit longer, however what an exciting story!! Yes, I would of liked the characters fleshed out more. When Matt was described as being capable of fights (temper) I could/would make him in same vein as Brian. Matt was not Brian. We barely knew Matt's background and all we know was Matt slept with a lot of women and watched Brian be a jerk. Hmmm, so I'm not in love with Matt but you'll read a HEA nonetheless.

*2* for the ease of reading the story...

Ugh. I hate leaving bad reviews on ARCs, but so many things in this book just did NOT work for me. I am overall not a big fan of accidental pregnancy/secret baby romances, but that wasn't even the plot point I had an issue with.

The two MCs meet again after 9 years (second chance romance), but I really didn't get a sense of their chemistry either in the past or upon their reunion. I think more time should have been spent on at least one, because the reader is pretty much just told that Amanda (h) also acknowledges he's been a "manwhore". When they meet again, it just seemed like some physical attraction instead of a long-suppressed romance. I felt like if Aaron (their lovechild) had never happened, Matt wouldn't have cared to rekindle anything beyond a fling.

Additionally...the heroine. Maker of supreme dumb choices. Thinks Matt is a womanizer (yes) and has violent tendencies (yup) based on what she remembers of him, yet Amanda had put herself though law school and raising a kid, yet came across pretty senseless. Her disdain for her duties as being beneath her (at her first job straight out of law school) also made me roll my eyes.

As I said, I hate to leave a review like this, but I just couldn't click with these characters' decisions or motives. Feel free to take this with a grain of salt, as it seems others liked this.

The Impact of a Father

Family dynamics can be challenging. The environment in which a child develops can create scars—mental, physical and emotional—that follow a child into adulthood, impacting all aspects of the adult’s life. For Amanda Fisher, a 27-year-old lawyer, her family’s interactions had been troubled since before she was born. Luckily, Amanda has very few memories of her father, a violent man used his hands and his words to control his wife and children. But, she does remember her father’s abusive engagement with her mom and her older brother Brian. And, while the controlling and violent father deserted his family when Amanda was only 3, he left accumulation of years of physical and emotional abuse of his wife and young son that left scars on the soul and the mind.

Amanda grew up with brother Brian, 10 years her senior, as her guide and inspiration. So, when he went to law school, she set law school as her goal. At 18, before her college experience began, she left their home and travelled to NYC where Brian was young lawyer, already distinguishing himself in the powerful city law firm. And, the experience was wonderful—law was the profession she wanted to pursue. And, while her brother was not always available to accompany his sister on promised excursions—or even pick her up at the airport when she first arrived, Brian was still keeping tabs on her and taking care of her. By passing the tasks of transportation, NYC activities and overseeing her internship in the law firm over to his best friend since college and law school, Matt Dawson, Brian was doing his duty to care for his sister while not complicating his schedule. So, Matt with his intense blue eyes, dark hair and tattoo covered arms and chest, soon Amanda’s vision of sex in Sagan leather. And, by the end of the summer, Matt had also introduced his best friend’s younger sister to the world of hot, passionate sex.

Now, nine years later, baby sister Amanda is back in NYC, not to tour or intern, but to work at Dawson and Fisher, the law firm of her brother and his best friend. With a law degree in hand, Amanda is ready to work. She has brought with her an intense work ethic and motivation—her bright, clever 8-year-old blue-eyed son, Aaron.

Summer Brooks has offered her readers a delightful first novella. The characters are engaging and the tension between the characters is intense. I look forward to additional writings from this author. The one suggestion I would offer the author for the reader’s pleasure would be to consider adding a last chapter set a few years later. The characters are left in a very emotional upheaval. I would like to check in on them later.

I purchased this novella through Amazon and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Running through Central Park, Matt Dawson almost tripped and fell when he saw his happily married law firm partner kissing another woman! Brian Fisher had a violent temper and was a super-controlling person, especially of his wife and younger sister. In Matt’s younger days, he ignored Brian’s warning to stay away from his sister and, fortunately, they never got caught. Since she was living in Chicago, it was a non-issue now. As for the woman being kissed in Central Park, he decided not to incur Brian’s wrath over it for now.

Amanda Fisher directed the movers carrying her boxes and furniture for the past 4 hours up the 6 flights to her tiny apartment. Luckily she found one with a small bedroom for her son, Aaron. Soon she would be starting her new job.

Brian had seen Matt in Central Park and spent the weekend trying to reach him to make sure he wouldn’t tell Megan. Matt had been avoiding him, not wanting to deal with this. Brian was not one you could reason with! So Matt just told him to make it right, and invited him to lunch. When Brian asked if Amanda could join them, Matt didn’t realize he meant his sister! He hadn’t seen her in almost 10 years and thought she was in Chicago. But Brian had given her a job in their firm!!! When they became the two sole partners, they had agreed to make all major decisions together, yet he had not said a word to Matt! Amanda was the only woman Matt have ever cared about – and now he had to figure out how to pretend she meant nothing to him! How were they going to be able to work together now? And what would he do when he met her son whose eyes were the same vivid blue as his own? And worse yet, what will happen when Brian learns the truth!

The author has done an amazing job presenting the characters in this story. She has evoked the reader’s sympathy for the situation that will inevitably unravel, and has prepared the reader for how each character might react. The story line moves along at a good pace, while a slight tension is introduced as secrets wait to be revealed. I definitely recommend this well-written book! It’s a keeper!

I read this book beginning to end the day that I received it. It was a free copy that I received from Booksprout, and I will happily leave my review. Honestly, I did not know what to expect as I had not researched what the book was about. I wanted to be surprised with what I was getting myself into.
The one negative I will give is that I wish the story was longer. There could have been more of a backstory with Matt, Amanda, Brian, and Aaron. Perhaps even told in flashbacks of when they were younger. I do love quick reads but at the same time, if it is a story I am really into I do not want it to end.
There was the perfect amount of romance and conflict, and although kind of predictable, I was still enjoying the read.
You painted a clear picture of the characters in my head. You painted the picture of who I was meant to love, and I loved them, and who I was meant to hate, and I hated them.
I am curious to know what happens next though. Will there be a part 2 with answers to my questions?
I also enjoy reading books in dual points of view, which were both nailed.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book and good luck in future.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is a second chance romance between Amanda and Matt. Matt was Amanda's brother Brian's best friend and they were partners in a law firm. When Amanda moves to New York to work at the law firm, she is nervous to see Matt because she hasn't seen him since she interned at the firm nine years ago and they had a secret fling, leaving her pregnant. Amanda never told Matt about their son, and when she sees Matt again, she knows she still has feelings for him. When Brian suggests Matt show Amanda around town, he mentions getting her a babysitter and Matt learns about her son. When he asks how old he is, Matt thinks he might be his. Brian is a very angry man and would not approve of Matt and Amanda and that is why she never told him Matt was the father. Brian is having marital problems and it leaves him even more angry, causing Matt and Amanda to hide their rekindled romance. This is a good story from a new author. I enjoyed the connection between Matt and Amanda. I was glad to see Matt wanted his family, i think they meant more to him than he thought. I thought Brian really needed help and should have gotten it a long time ago. I will be looking for more from Summer.

Matt is stunned when he sees his best friend and business partner with another woman while he is jogging one morning. Later his friend confronts him about it but he doesn't want to be involved. When he learns that Amanda is working for them he gets a little anxious because back when her brother and him started working she came on as an intern which led to the two of them having a brief thing before she went to school. Now years later he is seeing her again for the first time. Amanda is nervous about seeing Mat because she kept a secret from him and everyone else in her life her son Aaron. When things go south for her brother he shows his true colors and Matt sees him for what he really is. Will Mat be able to keep Amanda and Aaron safe from her brother?

This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Amanda and Matt is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this to any book lover.

Eight years ago a young college girl (Amanda) had a love affair with an older man (Matt) who was her older brothers law partner resulting in a surprise pregnancy (she never divulged the name of the father of her son). Now that she has passed the bar and is a single mother she is granted a position in the same law firm owned by her brother and the father of her son. The first day of work her brother invites her out to lunch and drags along his law partner unbeknownst to the history with Matt and Amanda..... Amanda and Matt are once again put into a difficult situation rekindling their relationship while hiding it from her brother - a very angry disturbed man. You have to keep reading to see just how Summer Brooks ties up all the loose ends !! Loved this book for its fresh way of presenting this couples problems.

This is my second book by Summer and I'm looking forward to more. Her story telling is realistic and relatable, the characters and their issues are addressed in a manner you can understand. Take Me Back is full of suspense. It's heartbreaking, romantic, and passionately steamy in parts.
Matt and Amanda have history and a well written chemistry, you can feel the love pouring from the pages, Oh! and a son.
Amanda has kept the secret that Matt is the father of her child from both Matt and her brother, Brian. Matt and Brian are best friends and business partners. Brian is a horrible character even evil at times, he's controlling. His actions are done without any thought to others.
Summer did an excellent job writing this book. It has a plot that has you gripped from the start and holding your breath in suspense to the end. Every loose thread is tied up in a very satisfying ending.

TAKE ME BACK is a quick sexy read. Matt and Amanda’s story began almost a decade ago, when she was eighteen and he was almost thirty. Their affair was passionate and very undercover since Matt was her brother’s best friend and colleague. It was also cut short when Amanda returned home after her summer visit with her brother, Brian. Unknown to Matt, and her brother, Amanda has been raising his son for the last eight plus years while also pursuing a law degree. Now she has been hired in Matt and Brian’s law firm.

The attraction between Matt and Amanda is still smouldering after all this time apart. Yet their relationship and is still being hidden from Brian. Revelations of secrets, passionate reunions, and dangerous encounters all ensue. Will Matt and Amanda find a way to be together? Read this sexy, steamy romance to discover what happens.

WOW!!!
This is the authors first published book and I have to say if this book is an indication of what we can expect from Summer Brooks in the future...... I can't wait to read more from this amazing storytellers work!!
Take Me Back had me sitting on the edge of my seat stiff with tension when ever Brian appeared worrying what he was upto. He definately takes VILLIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD. What an absolute vile and narcissistic man he is...
Amanda moves to New York so that she can start working at her brother's and partners law firm.
When the truth about her sons father comes out the spine chilling events that follow will have you gasping in shock.
The book is full of suspense, drama and the sexual chemistry will have your panties melting!!!!

Take Me Back by Summer Brooks is a book that was a delight to read. From a young inexperienced girl to a struggling attorney and mother Amanda is determined to make a better life for herself and young son. Moving to New York to take a job at her brother Brian's law firm is the first step towards that goal. Her brother's partner Matt does not know that he is her son Aaron's father. The real problem however is Brian's temper. The fear the Brian will find out about the dynamics of this budding family is the crux of this book. Well written and descriptive, this story had me hoping for a happy ever after ending. I was not disappointed. I really liked the book. I look forward to reading more from this author.

In Take Me Back, Summer Brooks does a great job of pulling the reader into the lives of Amanda and Matt. Clearly the connection established when they first met was a solid one. Unfortunately, almost 10 years have to pass before they realize that and act on it. In addition to Amanda’s and Matt’s second chance at a relationship, this eBook also touched on abusive relationships. This distracted me, slightly, in that I started to wonder about how Brian (Amanda’s brother) treated their mother and his wife (especially considering how he treated his sister Amanda) and how he got away with it for so long.

Other than being distracted in a manner I am not sure the author intended, this eBook, to me, was both an enjoyable read and an eBook that I will recommend reading.

Brian and Matt were best friends and business partners. They have been playboys since college and Brian is even married and still carries on like he’s single. Brian has a sister that is moving to town and is going to work for him. Matt finds out and asks why he wasn’t consulted but Brian shrugged it off. Matt sees her when she’s at work and remembers the time they had slept together a few years before and they hadn’t told anyone. But he comes to find out that she has a son and it’s his. But Brian is falling apart as his wife leaves him for all his cheating and comes to realize that Matt is the father of his nephew that Amanda refused to tell. Will this story straighten out or it all fall to pierces?

This is a good book by Summer. Matt and Brian have been best friends since college and they are now partners of their firm. Amanda is Brian's sister and is now also working at the law firm. Matt and Amanda kept the short relationship they had a secret, due to Brian's temper. She has also kept her son's father a secret. Brian wants Matt to keep his secrets secret, too. There are twists and turns, secrets, and some suspense. Matt wants a second chance with Amanda and to be there for his son. Will they find a way for this to happen and avoid Brian's wrath? The connection and chemistry they had when they were first together never left. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I liked the storyline and the characters. My only big issue was the ending...it was abrupt and seemed unfinished....also kind of insulting to Amanda.
*Spoiler*
The author needed to officially tie up the brother issue. Yes, we can assume what will happen, but it would be nice to have it finished up with a trial. This would extend the ending a bit more (which it needed).
Also, the end was insulting to Amanda. The name could change and still have the same reputation...or even a better one. Get them married off, living in his place or even a new one, and have the law firm called Dawson and Dawson. Considering what went down, I don't think I would want the Fisher name attached to it anymore!

A sweet romance about finally getting a second chance with that special someone who stole your heart. I am no a fan of virgin/insta pregnancy..or did they have the entire summer break without birth control? Amanda goes home never tells anyone including Matt about her pregnancy, and not telling who the father is. Finally Amanda with a new law degree goes to work for her brother's firm and comes face to face with Matt again. After 10 years apart they continue on like nothing happened, only this time she can't hide her son from Matt after he realizes that he is the father. We also learn about Brian, Matt's partner and Amanda's brother had threatened her life and abused her. The ending is a bit abrupt, but does not detract from the story.

He secretly had an affair with his best friends sister. That best friend can I say is a ass hat whom controlled his sister and mom. Matt and Amanda have not seen each other for years after their affair ended and now Amanda is back in town with a son and working for her brother and Matt.

The secret son she has is also Matt's whom knew nothing about this. The idiot brother also does not know whom is his nephews father. What will he do when he finds out his best friend is the father of his nephew. He also has a temper so will Matt even survive to even help raise his son.
So I liked this story until the ending there was none. What happens to Matt and Amanda? So for the abrupt ending I rate this story three stars.

Wow, I couldn't put it down. I was totally stuck in the book.
Matt and Brian are best friends and partners in their law firm. Matt and Brian met in college. When Brian's sister, Amanda came to visit Brian during one summer, she met Matt.
Things go unexpectedly during that time. After Amanda graduates college she needs a job. She asks her brother, Brian for a job. He gets her a job in the law firm on a different floor from him and Matt. I can't say anymore about the story other than I didn't see the ending coming.

They had a great time on all levels. Amanda is in law school when she find out she is pregnant. With all circumstances she decided have baby on her but never forget Matt as he never forgot her.
They meet again and sparks fly and they are back together.
But her brother has different opinion. What happened next will shock you.

What a fantastic read! This is the first book I’ve read by Summer Brooks and I wasn’t disappointed.
This book is about a second chance with a twist. Matt and Amanda had one mad week of passion before Amanda had to return home, and never forgot each other. But they didn’t feel they could stay in touch due to Amanda’s over protective brother Brian and Matts best friend.
The twist and turns in this book will keep you reading.
A must read

Take Me Back is a short story that packs a punch. The plot centers around the friendship between Matt and Brian and the secret relationship between Matt and Amanda, Brian's sister, 10 years ago. Amanda has recently relocated to New York City and began working for her brother's law firm when she is reunited with Matt. This book touches on many social issues, including infidelity and physical abuse. It also reinforces the proper behavior of gentleman. Summer Brooks has excelled in writing very realistic characters and I can't wait to read more by this author!

This book will keepyou glued to your kindle! Summer Brooks is a new author for me and I can’t wait to read what she comes up with next! Mat and Amanda have chemistry and a past together. However Mat’s business partner Brian is Amanda brother and has a very controlling violent temper. He doesn’t know about their past and that her son’s father is Mat and neither does Mat. Can they have a relationship? Can they have a second chance at love without issues? This is an amazing story that will keep you riveted.

I can hardly believe that this is the author's first book. It's well-constructed and the characters and situations flow naturally.

The consequences of family dysfunction lead to the estrangement of the lovers in the first place, and nearly cost them everything. But in the end, love wins.

It's funny how we are willing to put up with people , as the law partners Matt and Brian put up with one another, for the sake of social harmony, until true character shows. Amanda has raised her son better than she and Brian were raised, which is what we all are striving towards.

So upset

Alright first off it started with a great storyline. I enjoyed the build-up and the easy characters transition without conflict that you usually read in stories that is so frustrating. The ending wasn't an ending it was a what the neck happen to it, it was cut off with more of a 'well?'. What happened with Brain, what happen with his wife and child involved in this situation? How did Matt and his son Aaron become close and did Matt and Amanda have more children, did the marry? Two many questions for the ending to this type of story, so frustrating!

Matt and Amanda spent time together nine years ago. She has always been wise beyond her years and finding herself expecting only enhanced her experience. Making the decision to go into law infuriated her brother but he went along and got her a job at his firm hence where she finds herself in the predicament, she is in confronting her son's father. This story entails a lot of drama some you don't see coming an is definitely going to keep you glued to your seat until the last page.
