Winter has arrived in Hemlock Cove, and the Angelo family of witches are hoping for a restful week in a cozy lakeside wood cabin on a luxury New England estate. But when Noah, their pet dog, digs up a bone, Grace and her family are plunged into a decades-old the disappearance of the former owner of the estate, Everett Goodman.

But the bone isn’t the only puzzle Grace needs to solve. There’s also the matter of the strange groundskeeper, Eddy, who lives in the woods and barely speaks a word. And stranger still, a dark secret that hangs over the estate.

With her sleuthing skills and intuition pushed to the limits, Grace Angelo is on the case again as she tries to close the cold case and discover what had happened in the woods all those years ago, and what is behind the dark energy that clings to the estate.

This book can be heard as a stand-alone mystery as all the books in the Witches of Hemlock Cove series can.

If you like fun clues, a twisty mystery, and larger-than-life characters that will quickly become your friends, don't hesitate to join the Angelos in the Witches of Hemlock Cove.

All the books in this series do not contain strong violence, language, or scenes of a sexual nature. They are clean listens.

This was disappointing, even by my low standards for this genre. There needed to be about 50 more pages to the story; there was hardly any mystery, cozy or otherwise.

The scent of woodsmoke is strong outside , but so is the cosy fireplace and cooking inside.

The Rustic Riddle was a well written ,fast reading mystery. Ms. Chase does a very nice job of putting together a sweet family of witches that don't really cast spells they just have gifts of knowledge of past evil , healing herbs ,and two pets that have a soul link to their parents. In this book the family is on vacation to a Rustic cabin where there dog finds a bone (human) that has been buried and sends smells of smoke to the (exdetective ) daughter. Of course Dario her first male interest since her police partner husband died many yrs ago, is with her on this trip and be has a calming effect on people when he wants to as he is a hypnotist when he chooses to be. Very nice mystery 👍

Grace, Dario, Joy and Nathaniel; along with Noah abd Jessie -the dogs, go on a vacation. However, with Grace there, pretty soon a case presents itself, and she is sucked in to another strange murder, one which needs solving for the survivors of the tragedy.
All of the stories in this series are good, and they get better the more that are written. I can hardly wait for the next one to hit Amazon!
Grab a cuppa with some biscuits, curl up with a blanket and read a good story.

Hands down, my favorite book from this series. I loved that we were able to get into the emotions of the victims and see Grace and Dario use their powers more. Great read!

When Joy, Nathaniel, Grace and Dario go on vacation

To Goodman Estate in a large cabin in the woods. Dario and Grace both feel a dark cloud over the estate. Noah finds a human bone, that re-opens a decade's old case and puts Zack, Dario and Grace on the case.

Read and enjoy.

Vacation or not, a heavy oppressive energy and a hacksawed bone lead to a crime scene. Curiosity, the desire to fix things and a bit of sleuthing brings closure to the Goodman Estate. Now they need a vacation from their vacation. The air was crisp and refreshing, the snow on the trees was beautiful so it was a change. Along with some heart warming moments.

Irresistible Page Turner!

This adventure of Witches of Hemlock Cove consists of sisters Grace & Joy Angelo & their significant others, Dario & Nathaniel. The group agree they need a little winter vacation time & decide to spend a week at the famed Goodman Estate in a cozy lakeside cabin. Unfortunately their little vacation becomes complicated when Grace's dog digs up a human bone.

This book is not really action packed, but is a very delightful mystery. It is the kind that you read on a quiet winter (or summer) day with your favorite drink cuddled under a blanket. The plot roles out lazily capturing the reader & pulling her along as the plot unravels. The characters are warm, loving, & sincere. They work well & are treated well by local law enforcement, for a change. As this is really a cold case, there are no bloody bodies to stumble upon. Grace & Dario solve the mystery with their brains & a little magic. The ending absolutely tugs at the heart strings. Definitely a fun read!

Better

These are getting better. The first in the series was awkward as though the paranormal elements had been grafted on, but by this level of the series, these problems are pretty much ironed out. I would have a little difficulty categorizing these characters as "witches" since their talents are just vaguely paranormal. But psychics of Hemlock Cove wouldn't sound quite as enticing. If you ignore that, this book was pretty good. Our heroine's paranormal dog digs up a mystery and away we go, using her psychic talents along the way. Other than a little mind control and an herbal tea or two, that's as witchy as it gets. But a nice little cozy mystery is solved and a good time is had by all, making a nice winter afternoon read.

The past is never really forgotten.

Loved this one. A week away with Dario, her sister and her husband is just what they need before the Chistmas frenzy starts. However things don't go to plan when her dog digs up a bone. Is it an animal one or is it something more sinister. A great read that has you going into the past and melding it to the present. A lovely ending with all getting their just rewards. The characters are so real that they seem to live and the plot is well structured and executed. Tremendous.

A Rustic Riddle

Another good book by Kennedy Chase in the Witches of Hemlock Cove Series. Grace Dark, Joy & Nathaniel go on what's to be a nice restful vacation at a cabin in the woods only to find themselves swept up in a decades old murder mystery.

Fond of the charachters

Like the rest of Ms. Chase's cozy mysteries, this one is light reading great for an afternoon or when stuck in the doctor's office

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Even though on vacation , mystery seems to follow the Angelo family . Noah digs up a bone which leads to a cold case , which leads to many twists and turns . Grace will definitely need a vacation from her vacation !
