REVIEW: The third and final book in the Southern Crimes series, is just as thrilling, intense, and suspense-filled as the previous two. Focusing on the last of the 3 Hunt children who come from a family full of police officers, Michael is resurrected from his supposed death. With twists and turns galore, bad cops, and numerous drug lords, Harris keeps the reader's attention from start to finish. The wonderful interplay between all the characters from the previous 2 books as well as the addition of a few new major characters in the middle of the world of drugs made for another great story. This wrap up to the series definitely was worth the read. I hope that in some way the author will revive this series as each of the Hunt children move in new directions in their lives.
I was so looking forward to this book and I'm thrilled to say that it totally lived up to my expectations and is officially my favorite book of the series! I have wanted to meet Michael for a long time, he was every bit as much of an excellent hero as I thought he would be. I also loved Olivia and her brother Ivan. The suspense was so good, really non stop action, and while there were a few things that I found pretty predictable I still loved the story. It felt like I had been waiting forever for Michael to be reunited with his family, and when it finally happened their reunion was so sweet it nearly brought tears to my eyes. While I did feel like the ending was rushed, nevertheless I still loved the entire book! I am a sucker for family sagas and I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes those types of books as well some great romantic suspense. I really hope we will get to see the Hunt family again in this author's future novels, and I would really love to read a story starring Olivia's brother Ivan a few years down the road!

I don’t really have much to say about “Hidden Agenda” besides it kept me on my toes and was pretty good. Only thing was I wasn’t a fan of the extra Sexual content and all the murdering.
*BFCG may (Read the review to see) recommend this book by this author. It does not mean I recommend all the books by this author. *I received this book for free from the Publisher (Revell) for this review.

Seriously, though: While good, this wasn't up to par with the previous volumes...hence the lower rating. If you've read and enjoyed the series up to this point, you'll probably like this; just don't expect it to be an epic grand finale.
All the books in the Southern Crimes series are good but the complex family dynamics and all the twists in this story make it stand out above the rest. In fact, this may be my favorite book by this author.
Wow! Is all I can say after reading this book. This series has definitely cemented itself as being one of my favs in the crime/suspense genre. Lisa Harris is brilliant (I can totally see why she's a Christy Award Winner).
Warning!!! If you have not read books 1 and 2 of the Southern Crimes series, I recommend you don’t read the below sections because there are definitely some spoilers in book 3. Lol, ok I did my public service announcement. :-)
This book was a non-stop ride. There were so many twists and turns in the story. I seriously had a hard time putting this book down. There were a lot of times I felt like I didn’t know who to trust. Not only was this book fast-paced and fun to read, but it had some touching heartfelt moments as well. There were so many times in this story where I was teary-eyed. And it was so nice to see the Hunt family in action again in this book; I tell you I just love them! Lisa Harris has done a wonderful job making well-drawn faith based characters. I am so sad to see this series end, this is a book that worth reading (and re-reading.)
After finishing "Dangerous Passage" on Sunday, I knew I'd be checking out both of the next books this coming Sunday because I loved the first so much. But this came in at work today, and it just so happened to be employee appreciation days, so I got all of 40% off, and couldn't resist, especially after I saw the synopsis. Bottom line: though I really wanted to read the books in order, I'd have to wait til Sunday to do so, and it's impossible to do with a book like this already in hand!
This is just one of those books that defies all reason or logic to become a next favorite. Sometimes I read books that are well written, and then some stories I just live in the pages and never put it down and have absolutely nothing to gripe about. The writing is excellent, the characters well drawn, and the story deeply satisfying. I really don't want the series to be over! I'll be rereading this one plenty of times.
I loved that the characters portrayed family so well, as those from former books didn't hesitate to put careers on the line to help Michael fight the bad guys. I loved that both Michael and Olivia were already believers and were challenged in their faith by the issues they encountered (the message didn't have to be overtly preachy; they lived their morals even when it was hard and they didn't want to.) I also really liked that the romance was understated and still very real. They became a team and then were surprised by romantic feelings–just the way I'd like to have it someday.
I have really enjoyed this series from Lisa Harris. This is book 3 in her Southern Crimes series, and while you could probably read this one as a stand-alone, I would highly recommend reading at least book 2 as there is a lot of reference to the events that took place in that one.
In the first 2 books, we see that the Hunt family is grieving the loss of Michael. In this book, we learn that he is actually alive and has been deep undercover this whole time. When his cover is blown, he prays for a miracle, only to find one in the most unexpected place! This book had non-stop action from the very beginning as Michael and Olivia are running for their lives. This one also had a romance plot and a strong faith thread. While I wasn't as big a fan of this romance as the other 2 (probably because there was no history) the romance wasn't rushed either, so it didn't detract from my star rating. This book brought a very satisfying conclusion to the series. I would strongly recommend for fans of Christian romantic suspense!
I went into this book wanting to know about Michael and what was going on. The beginning was great, it felt like I was watching a tv crime show playout and I was on the edge of my seat. I liked how Ivan and his sister Olivia risked themselves to save a guy they didn't know. They are now running for their lives but the bad guys always seem to be able to track them. we are dealing with the cartel and corrupt police officers, who can they really trust? I really liked Ivan, but sometimes it felt like he was younger than 19 and I questioned his ability to know what he did due to his hearing disability. There is a lot of action happening throughout that kept me invested, but there were a few times where it seemed to jump and it ruined a bit of the flow. I did not care for the romance between the characters at all. Emotions are running really high and they both have so much that should be dealt deal before they can really explore their feelings, but they are already talking long term. I enjoyed seeing characters from the previous books and enjoyed seeing the family reunited.
Hidden Agenda is the third book in the Southern Crimes series, but is easily read as a stand alone novel. I have only read books two and three in the series and had no trouble following along in either story. I was intrigued to find out that Michael Hunt, who was presumed dead in the previous book, is alive and well. His story is a very exciting one.
I really liked the main characters in Hidden Agenda. Michael has been living as an undercover cop for a very long time, and has been presumed dead for eight months. The guilt he carries knowing that his entire family has been mourning for him is only slightly lessened by the hope that what he uncovers will bring down the leaders of a drug cartel.
Olivia and Ivan are a brother and sister team who end up doing the right thing and save Michael’s life when it is threatened. These two individuals are so refreshing. They know what they need to do and then do it, but they still continually question throughout the book the “why’s” of what has happened. It’s one thing to be brave and do the right thing, it’s another to be fighting for your life as a result of your decisions.
I enjoyed seeing the couples from the previous books and catching up with their lives. And I loved Michael and Olivia’s developing relationship. It seemed very realistic to me. Yes, it did come about quickly, but due to the harrowing circumstances, I felt that it made a lot of sense. This is a very action-packed story, which I enjoyed from start to finish.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Baker Publishing Group in exchange for an honest review.
Michael Hunt is presumed dead by family and friends. Only he's not dead. Not at all. He's been deep undercover infiltrating a known drug cartel. The problem? His cover's been blown and he's about to be killed. Michael has no choice but to put his life and his trust into the hands of Olivia Hamilton, the daughter of the cartel leader he is trying to take down. When Olivia and her brother Ian find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time, they can't help but rescue Michael and escape. But with cartel members chasing them as well as leaks in the Atlanta Police Department, the trio doesn't know who to trust. Enlisting the assistance of Michael's family eases some of the danger while creating more. Michael is determined not to go down without a fight, and he will take as many cartel members down as possible. He wants this all to be over so he can explore his growing feelings for Olivia.
This was probably my favorite of all three novels in this series. Like the others, it was fast-paced and very quick to read. I had no idea how things were going to end up and I'm glad that they ended the way they did.
I loved Michael. I thought that he was very well developed. I also loved Ian. And I loved seeing how Michael interacted with his family once he was no longer "dead". I also loved how he was willing to admit he was wrong about things.
Fans of romantic suspense will love this book. I think it's the last in the series, but I would love to see more about Avery's team - Tori, Levi, Carlos.
I received this book for free from Revell Books for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

After how the previous book ended with the big surprise, I couldn't wait to read this book! Thankfully it lived up to my expectations! Michael was a fantastic hero! I loved how he held true to his faith even after being undercover in a criminal organization for several months, and how he didn't let it change who he was at his core. Olivia was great too! It was great to see how she took care of her brother and how she was willing to risk her life to the right thing. The action in this story definitely kept me hooked, it was impossible to know who to trust and who was was working for who! There were several things that I didn't see coming at all and I was impressed by how the author worked everything out! It was such fun to see the Hunt family back together and to watch them all do what needed to be done to clear Michael’s name. It was also amusing to see Michael's reaction to the fact that his best friend was now dating his little sister! There were a couple instances of redundancy but it wasn't enough to keep me from enjoying this fantastic and satisfying conclusion to a great series!
I received this book free in exchange for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Why is that even though they are doing the right thing, everything is falling apart?
They just have to keep believing that the truth will set them free.
Favourite Quotes:
“Walking through the fires force us to face God. To strip our souls of all the charades we play, until we see only Him. And in the end, we know Him better.” ~ Michael Hunt
“I’m struck with the profound truth that God is good. He never promised us that life would be easy, but He has promised to walk with us. Which is what He’s done.” ~ Michael Hunt
I have loved this series, and this story was a great one to finish on. It was good to finally find out what had happened to Michael and see the Hunt family altogether again. #1 #2 #3
Lisa Harris has again written an action packed, fast moving suspense that involves the dangerous world of drugs and money laundering. A successful real estate corporate head is father to Olivia and Ivan who live normal lives but only see their father a couple of times a year on his ocean front estate. They become involved in the nefarious activities revolving around their father when Ivan accidentally witnesses the murder of a man and sees a second man about to receive the same fate. The two young people rescue Michael, the doomed man, in a night boat escape.
This begins the chase. There are bad men of every stripe out to get them. And Olivia and Ivan discover more and more about the life their father has kept hidden in the shadows.
Michael, the injured man they rescued, is an undercover policeman and his life is very much in danger. He is pursued and he is also the pursuer.
The twists and turns of this story take the reader into the minds of criminals and also police. As the conclusion of Lisa Harris' three book Southern Crimes series, this is a winner.
DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy from Revell in exchange for my review. I received no compensation. Opinions expressed are solely my own.
Hidden Agenda by Lisa Harris is book three in the Southern Crimes series. I was starting to think it might be more than I could handle from a violence perspective but it wasn’t. Michael has been working undercover and his family thinks he is dead. Olivia and her brother, Ivan save him from certain death. He learns that they are the children of the man who wants him dead. This begins a chase as they try to stay one step ahead of the cartel. They eventually team up with his family (who are featured in the previous books) and try to determine how someone keeps finding them and trying to kill them. They suspect someone in the police department which added an additional element of suspense to the story. Hidden Agenda is an ideal read with a rough blend of mystery and a serving of romance. Great family relationships. It was emotional a couple times; especially when he goes to see his mom for the first time after returning. I was so pleased with how the author developed Olivia’s brother and made him strong even with his disabilities. I recommend Hidden Agenda if you like a thriller with a quick developing romance. You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.
A very satisfying romantic suspense by Lisa Harris, Hidden Agenda zigged and zagged as Olivia, Ivan, and Michael rush headlong to escape the cartel. Indeed, it is hard to run in a straight line when the enemy can be anyone around you. Harris does a wonderful job of setting up a dangerous situation and then throwing the reader into doubt about just who the enemy is. I kept guessing and re-guessing!
This book is also about learning to trust when the going gets tough. NOT only does Olivia have to decide to trust Michael or not, but she must choose whether she can trust God, as well."Michael," says Olivia, "What do you do when something horrible happens, when fear takes hold so hard you can hardly breathe?" "All I know to do is to dig deeper until you remember that God knows exactly what's happening at this very moment. He cares, and no matter what happens, He will never leave you..." Trust. Will we trust or will we freeze when the hard times come? That said, in a sinful world, trusting God does not guarantee safety. Who makes it out of this terror alive, and who becomes collateral damage? A thrilling, chilling read!!
I gratefully received this book from the author for an honest review.
Wow, I flew through this book. I picked it up thinking I will just read a chapter or two, and one day later it is finished!
This was a very fast paced, action packed book. There was no mystery to solve, but filled with action since Micheal and Olivia was running from the Cartel. And there was a twist or two I did not see coming!
Lisa Harris is now on my to-read authors.
Recommended to fans of Terri Blackstock, Irene Hannon and Lynette Eason.
SPARROW'S THOUGHTS: // If I may be so bold, reading this novel seriously felt like watching a movie; I don’t even feel as though I actually read a book! Seriously, my mind is blown away right now
// Lisa Harris weaves conflict, betrayal, loss, faith, agony, willpower, integrity and triumph into his epic novel. The emotions she captures behind her writing is exceptional; she anchors you on a hope and faith that you are familiar with. Needless to say, her expertise and passion for justice, mystery and crime really makes her who stand out
// The suspense and the romance were well-developed within the plot; I cried, I laughed, I muttered discontentedly, I was both captivated and entertained!
// The introduction in itself is fraught with tension, and from there on the pulse pounding never stops; this is in all truth, the product of an author at the top of her game
// Though read through a third-person narration, the characters truly color and carry the narrative. In other words, the author doesn’t overwhelm the prose with her presence; this to me is a huge deal!
// The narrative, as the title suggests, follows the story of Michael Hunt, an undercover cop, whose scheme for concealment is blown and is now on the run from both the Cartel and government officials. There’s more though, Michael is conveniently rescued by the daughter of the city’s cartel kingpin, as well as her brother and the three take you on a thrilling ride of mystery, drama, romance and hidden truths
// It is also a story that embodies honor, love, grace, forgiveness, understanding, resolve; it hammers on real life pressing issues and predicaments, and further reminds us that when life hurls uncertainties at us, the most important aspect in life, is family
// I wholeheartedly and without reservations enjoyed this book; I enthusiastically recommend this series! A fantastic conclusion to a suspenseful, emotional and dramatic prose
3 THINGS I LIKED: + From a plotting perspective, I absolutely loved how the narrative is a complex web of betrayal and deception. The unpredictable twists and turns, the grim and shocking revelations, the affecting and thought-provoking confrontations and conflicts all came together so well and further increased the intensity of the storyline; not once was there a dull moment. Even more, Lisa Harris concludes each chapter with a climatic turn of events that makes it extremely difficult to put the book down; I was fully enraptured to say the least
+ Oliva Hamilton and Michael Hunt make for a phenomenal double act. The pacing of their romantic rapport, as well as their subplot narratives establish a depth that makes you genuinely care for them. The moments that resonate the most for me, are the ones that displayed their sense of vulnerability in their timorous step to spill the details of their plight, their fears, their needs, and when considering their circumstances alone, their obligation to confide in one another; it was challenging and you feel their emotional strife in doing so! It just goes to show how vulnerability is the glue that holds relationships together
+ While the trope of the novel is one that revolves around crime and corruption, I so appreciated the approach in which Lisa Harris was able to deliver a solid plot line without the typical profanities and vulgarities that I inevitably stumble upon in genres such as this one. That’s not to say that the prose was particularly lackluster; no in fact, Lisa Harris was able to pen street rhetoric that was authentic in a readable and engaging way
1 THING I DID NOT LIKE: - There were a few scenes that came across as, “too fluky and convenient” but to me, this is a minor flaw to an otherwise amazing book!
Overall Rating: Storyline | 5/5 Characters | 4/5 World Setting | 5/5 Moral Value | 5/5 Cover Art | 3/5 Overall | 5/5
Violence | Heavy Profanity | None Sexual Content | Minor Drugs & Alcohol | Mild
Mature subjects/themes include, but are limited to: Loss of a loved one, death, kidnapping, aggravated assault, sexual harassment, cartel, body dismemberment, laundering drug money, family & martial strife, separation, betrayal, breaking and entering, auto theft, drug abuse, corruption within the law enforcement
“Michael Hunt staggered from the impact of the blow.”
This is the opening sentence of Lisa Harris’s Hidden Agenda, and the tension escalates from that moment. Michael, an undercover cop investigating a drug cartel, has had his cover blown and has only a few hours to live. He is rescued by Ivan and Olivia, the son and daughter of Antonio Valez, the head of the cartel.
The story is fast-paced and believable, as the trio makes their escape from a heavily-guarded island, only to discover that Michael is also wanted by the police for a number of serious crimes.
There is an emotional tug each time Olivia and Ivan discover key people from their past are not who they believed them to be. This is a direct contrast to the united and caring Hunt family who don’t hesitate to drop everything and come alongside Michael and Olivia.
The plot line is clever and keeps you guessing, while each character is well defined. As a refreshing change for this genre of book, the three main characters all share a strong faith, while still being far from perfect. Where Olivia has difficulty releasing a protective control over her younger, deaf brother, Michael too is overly protective of his family and later Olivia. Even the two main “bad guys” have their soft spots and you can’t help having a smidgeon of sympathy with them, despite their evil way of life.
Despite the seedy background of drug running, Lisa has managed to keep the language clean while not in any way watering down the vivid narrative.
I read this book in less than 24 hours, reading until late at night and sneaking in a reading time the following afternoon to finish it. If you enjoy suspense stories withsome romance, you will enjoy this book. I don’t hesitate to give it a 5-star rating.
(i)Thank you to Revell Reads for giving me this book for an unbiased review.(/i)
I would have rated this book 3 and a half stars if goodreads allowed halves.
An interesting wrap up to an interesting series. I have followed the Southern Crimes series all the way through! And I'm glad I did! Lisa Harris was a new author to me, and while I am torn with this last one I'm still happy I was able to get into this series! Lisa has a beautiful and real way of weaving Faith and great messages into her suspense books! Avery is still one of my favorite characters and many past characters come back as the whole family tries to get things sorted out along with a batch of fresh "faces". Now when I say I am torn with this book it is because there were scenes I was on the edge of my seat, scenes where I laughed, but then there were scenes that I felt were just okay or in the wrong place. The beginning started out GREAT! Fast paced and suspenseful! I dove right in, but then there where some lulls in the pace as the book progressed. There where a couple of times when the writing didn't line up with the rest of the story also. The overall mystery or topic is interesting and centered around the cartel, but it did seem that topics jumped around without really landing on one in particular. But in the end I LOVE how Lisa wraps it all up, and I LOVE the way Lisa writes the Christian messages!!! If for nothing else I recommend this book for those messages, and these great characters!
Songs that I think go with the feelings in the story: "Greater" by MercyMe, "Voice Of Truth" by Casting Crowns, "Hurricane" by Natalie Grant, and "Oh Fear (My God Is Near)" by Moriah Peters Songs etc. May be changed and/or added in the future. ~ASC
Lisa Harris has done it again. HIDDEN AGENDA is packed with action, suspense, drama, great characters, and a great romance.
In book three of the Southern Crimes series, we find out that Michael Hunt is very much alive. With his cover blown, suffering from a beating, and facing death for a second time, he is rescued in the nick of time by Olivia and Ivan Hamilton. Michael wants nothing more than to get home to his family and the help they can provide, but the cartel has a hit out on him and corrupt officials in the Atlanta police department want to silence him as well. It’s not enough that he has to figure out how to clear his name without getting caught, but now he has to make sure Olivia and Ivan are safe as well. Complicating matters even more is the attraction he feels for Olivia. She’s strong and beautiful, and just so happens to be the daughter of the kingpin he’s spent eight months trying to take down.
What in sues is a page-turning odyssey of close calls and nick-of-time rescues. Michael and Olivia are as strong as they are vulnerable. Both of them see their opposite worlds standing between them and any future they might have, but it doesn’t diminish their quickly growing feelings for each other.
I really loved HIDDEN AGENDA, as I did the other took books in the series. The action is riveting and the characters are warm and genuine. It was also a treat to get to check back in with Avery, Jackson, Emily, and Mason. I will definitely be looking forward to Ms. Harris’ next series.

This is the second book in this series that I have read, as with the first book you will not know whom to trust. Even the crooks can’t trust the crooks, bad cops, where can you find help, and as we put the first book away we meet Michael who is dead, well not really but he is on paper. Your heart will be in your throat, there is so much action from the first page on, you never know what will be next. Just when things begin to look safe, and the characters are able to rest, boom not so safe after all, which way do you turn? Caught up in this suspense are the children of one of the major cartels in this country. When we meet them I had the feeling they were innocent, and knew nothing of what their father was involved in. As we travel along in the story we meet other friends of this young man and young woman, can we trust their friends? Can we trust Michaels? I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, and occasionally it fell with a loud thud. There are murders, explosions, hit and runs, torture, all in the name of greed, and power. How is in charge of all of this? We also end up with a bit of romance between Michael and Olivia, the daughter of the Cartel leader, and we have to think how much of a chance do they have? I so enjoyed this fast paced great read and want to read a lot more by this author Lisa Harris. Enjoy!
I received this book through Revell Blogger’s Tour and was not required to give a positive review.
3.5 stars A thrilling, past-paced suspense filled with more questions than answers until the final chapters. Olivia Hamilton and Michael Hunt are swept along a tidal wave of cartel crime and its consequences as they not only try to bring about justice, but attempt to discover who they really are, after living lives filled with deception and half-truths. Will the "hidden agenda" of others bring about their demise or can they learn to trust each other enough to hope for a "happily-ever-after"?
A fitting conclusion to Lisa Harris's "Southern Crimes" series!
This is the best book in the series! Presumed dead for the past eight months, Michael Hunt is on the run for his life. His cover for the undercover assignment has been blown and both the good guys and bad guys are out to get him. Desperate to save his life and prove his innocence he turns to his family for help. He also must trust the daughter of the drug lord he has been working to bring down for a long time. This is a fast paced book right from the beginning. It was so intense I discovered I had tears in my eyes at the close of the book.
I always love a good detective book and this one was no exception. A lot of twists and turns as Olivia struggles to stay alive while finding the truth about her father. I thought I had it all figured out, but I was wrong!
This is the third book in this series, but I have not read the first two. This can be a stand alone book. A must read for anyone looking for a page-turner.
*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my review.*
Really good read! Olivia was one of my favorite characters from the series. Probably the most developed, along with Mason and Emily. She was one of the few that we really see what makes her "tick"--make the decisions she does, and believe what she believes. Romance was a little rushed to me, but the suspense plot was on point.
