My name is Tamsin Vale and I’m about to do something smart… Or something really, really stupid. I give it a 50/50 chance, but keeping quiet on what’s going on with me has bitten me in the arse too many times for me not to admit it. And since my mother’s journal isn’t helping and is heartbreaking to read, it’s time to trust the people who say they care about me. Now that I finally have the answer about Mason, I feel like I can heal from that crazy and focus better on my own needs. No matter what I do, someone will hate it—hate me, so I need to never forget that I have to look to myself for the right answers. It’s also helped me feel more stable. I’m in a good place with four of the five men in my life even if it’s not where they want to be with me. But if I don’t tell Darby the truth about what’s been going on, there might not be a relationship for us to save.
Artemis University is an ongoing, hot burning reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who follows her own moral compass of what is right… And who she ends up giving her heart to.
*This book is part of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. Like all my books, this is not light and fluffy and includes dark themes and events some may find triggering. Reader discretion is advised.
Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal.
To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
Look. I started this series with absolute love in my heart but I can’t say that love is still there. While this series has frustrated me time and time again I will say I always go into it with an open mind.
The biggest issue I have with this series is the immaturity within the writing itself. I have not read other books by Erin so my sole experience is through the Artemis series. I will also note that what feels like she’s trying to make Tamsin appear as modern and fierce actually comes across as poorly educated and uncouth. Her bullying tendencies have pulled back thankfully but she is definitely not progressing along the same path as she was when this story started. Basically it’s taken a wrong turn somewhere maybe 12 books ago..
Truthfully if you took all the content relegated to Tamsin simply eating this series could be cut down by 1/3 at least. We get it. She needs food and lots of it.
I will say that I’m thankful her relationship with the guys is really starting to make actual healthy progress. The beginning was touch and go but by the end I felt almost proud of them? Because of that I added an extra star. Progress is progress after all!
There are many editing errors in this book. I would love for the author to slow down and allow ample time for edits to be made as these books could greatly benefit from them.
I’ve also noticed that there is no real differentiation between characters within her writing style. She goes through waves where she picks certain phrases and you’ll begin to notice other character, whom have ENTIRELY different personalities/educations/relationships, begin to speak the same. There is not enough difference amongst the analogies to truly encompass having so many diverse characters because they all “sound” the same. This gets especially fuzzy given the choppy nature of these books syntax. While I understand it would be more likely in some spoken conversations I find it hard to believe that every single character is constantly tripping over themselves while speaking and cutting off their sentences a word or two into them.
I’m someone who rates heavily based on the vibes or emotions a book gives me as the reader. Sadly, this series is merely tolerable at best and should have ended very long ago. Book 20 added a substantial plot point but 21 could have been a minor extension as nothing truly substantial occurs within this book.
The last book I left only 3 star and a harsh review but Erin has brought back more of the first few books Tams than has been seen in a long, long ,looonnnggg time. So many answers to questions I hand stated in previous reviews answered. New exciting questions from different plots that has my mind exploding with new ideas. This book has brought life back to a series I almost gave up on thank you so much. Although it never talked about Tams growth like it has the guys she did grow in this book, not hashing out old crap as much as just learning to let it go was such a unique change for me. Tams was less childish, whiny and hateful that I have fallen in love again. With a year and a half left and up to 5 books to go I'm curious if one will be a summer thing and honestly I'm hoping for a few years in the future book just to see how much has changed. This book was fantastic for me start to finish
This book is definitely better than the last 5 or so books. The h finally seems to be proactive and doing things instead of being a reactive, whining, complaining, moaning, ranting, lecturing, etc.
This book like most from this author could use an editor to cut about 30-40% of the content that is not relevant to the book. Such as where and what people eat. The characters seem to eat all the time and I mean ALL. THE. TIME! I don't care and it's completely irrelevant to the book. It gets old after the umpteenth meal, desert, restaurant. All the books by this author focuses so much about food. This author has made "nummies" a trigger for me. Good news, I don't think nummies/nummy was used in this book.
So I love this series but I have noted that the last few books have glaring grammar errors to the point I have to re read to make sure I understand. One book th ats a fluke but multiple books back to back after not having the issue...something else. Maybe a new editor who knows I only docked a star for it because the story is good and I like that it isn't constant exotic scenes with a little story in the middle
Always love what Erin creates. But I really liked this one. It made my heart feel good to see real progress and strengthening of her relationships both romantic and familial. It was great to see Tamsin start to take control and do things her way and close some tasks that have been on her list for awhile. Cliffhanger ending though!
Please note the following review encompasses books 20 through 26 of the SERIES. As each book depends on the prior books, I am not reviewing each individually to cut down on repetition. Following this review, I will be one final review of my reading experience throughout all 26 books.
As always, I will endeavor to minimize spoilers, but please read at your own risk.
Ok, it's been 19 books, and I haven't really touched on the totally delicious guys in this series. Mostly, because I wasn't sure who was staying and who was going. Because believe you me, Tamsin has her choice of treats. But I want to talk boys for a bit.
Let's start with our dragon. Hudson is a dragon prince, and his dragon, River, is as sweet as pie. Both love Tamsin wholeheartedly, but Hudson needs to learn when and how to pull his head out of that place the sun doesn't shine. He makes more than his fair share of mistakes, but unlike real life, there is almost always a redemption opportunity. I was thrilled he took it.
Next, there's the sexy warlock professor, Julian Craftsman. He is quite literally too smart for his own good. I was ready to throw the towel in and look for a replacement, but, like Hudson, he pulled off a miracle to get the girl. As much as this man frustrated me, he still managed to make me swoon. This man is Fine with a capital F, and the support he ends up providing for Tamsin would not have worked so well for anyone else.
This is the one y'all are looking forward to. Our geeky vampire tutor turned attorney. Most notably, he is the only one of Tamsin's mates that she purposely chose. Everyone else is a fated mate, but she loved Darby enough to tell Fate and the gods to F off. Darby is far from perfect, but he is the normal in her world that's spinning wildly out of control, and let's face it, it's impossible to not find him loveable. He brings a lot of baggage though, and it is incredible to watch him work through it all.
Lucca's relationship started with a ... lie of omission? Not a purposeful misrepresentation, but it still set their relationship back. Truthfully, I didn't expect him to make the final cut, but Lucca worked his butt off to fix his mistakes, to learn and grow from them, and unlike the rest, he doesn't make the same mistake twice. And Harry, his bear, is just too adorable.
And this leaves us with Neldor Donovan, Prince of Dark Fairies, aka Prince of Darkness. When first introduced to Neldor, I knew he was going to be vital to the plot, but I wanted him to die in a fire regardless. He was just flat out mean to Tamsin, but as the story progressed, his character made subtle changes to his attitude and behavior, and I realized that I like the guy. For all of his faults, he ends up adoring Tamsin, and more than any of the other relationships, this one left me with warm fuzzies.
Expect my final review of the overall, full series in a few days.
However, as always, Iwant to leave a content warning of sorts because mental health matters. Contained in the story so far, you will find racism, classism, prejudice and past trauma (physically, emotionally, and smexually.) There are also forced abductions, bullying outside of the harem, references to ongoing trafficking, violence, attempted forced mating and SA, intimate partner abuse, family disconnect and related trauma from both sides, and discussion of forced breeding. Characters have ongoing mental health issues, including anxiety, panic attacks, depression, fear of abandonment, grief & loss, self-worth issues, and suicidal ideation. Please know your limits and read responsibly.
Another great addition to the AU series!!! I cannot praise this series enough and I have read each book multiple times. Something I think is needed because each one has so much detail and various plot lines flowing throughout its like going on an Easter egg hunt every time I re read, I pick up another important clue. I highly recommend this series to all reverse harem lovers and anyone who loves fantasy romance books in general. Everything takes place in a multi dimensional world and Erin Flynn’s writing makes you believe you are truly living in these worlds.
( some spoilers if you are unfamiliar with the series as a whole)
I have loved following along with Tams and her men, and Im very happy that her relationships are finally beginning to stabilize. I’v enjoyed watching all the main characters grow up and I hope to see more scenes of the 6 of them navigating their complex relationship all together. I can’t wait for more information on Neldor and Tams as they navigate such tricky waters and I’m curious about the newest wrench in the plan with the cliff hanger. I do wish for more information on Izzy and her GF, I feel like we are missing a lot of her in the last few books. However I throughly enjoy Tams growing into a leader for her people and the detail the book goes Into on laws and procedures etc… this makes it truly feel like you can be part of the book as no stone is left unturned. I hope this series never ends, although I read in another review we only have 5 books lefts, I hope this isn’t true. As much as I want resolutions to the major themes in the book I also love just following the day to day workings of faerie and Tams Mates. I hope we get books just dedicated to the group 5, 10, 50 years into the future. Also spin offs would be great. I would love a prequel of Tam’s parents, Iolas and Katrina, Neldor’s parents as well. Additionally I want to know what’s happening with Cylum and Agis after their respective punishments?
Overall I fell in love with Artemis University, and will continue to read anything and everything connected to it. I am so excited for the next book and will do my best to wait patiently for it.
I'm committed at this point because I want to see how everything wraps up, but boy are these getting harder and harder to get through. Not only am I bored with the endless pages of everything she ate, but more and more it's starting to feel like a feeding kink being forced on me. Did I miss a content tag somewhere? I understand it's a fantasy for most, if not all, to be extremely hot and eat whatever we want and a ton of it, but we get it. Let's move on.
I'm also getting extremely tired of how she handles conflict with her men, especially when they mess up. In this book, it's Darby. I get it, it was plot and it made sense when it all went down, but the more it's drawn out the more I'm bored and the more I think Tamsin is being unfair and a bad/toxic partner. The excuses for her behavior are also getting old, but maybe if there was less of everything on the page and in the text I'd feel a lot better about it and her.
Fantastic book! There’s adventure, intrigue, justice, mysterious new characters, old familiar faces, Oreos and yes - strawberry milk. This book went back to basics with Erin writing more into relationships between Tamsin and her men, Tamsin and her father and Tamsin and those idiot…I mean jolly ole fairies. The 🌶️ has been dialed down a smidge and unfortunately we don’t see much of Izzy. But all & all this book is a snack, a big buttery bowl of salty popcorn with M&Ms that you keeping going back to kinda snack. Dig in and enjoy.
This book covers so darn much that I don’t know how to start my review. Vegas was grand, having all of her mates was the flipping icing on a Tamsin sized cake. The mates are solidifying their bonds, acknowledging their past mistakes.Tamsin power is growing hopefully she’ll end up stronger than fairy. Her dad man I love him and I absolutely don’t want to see him die. Please please don’t let that happen. A few questions were answered, more arose. All in all this series gets better and better.
This book was a whole bunch of nothing, with a side of severe editing issues. Not that the story had me hooked, but the errors threw me for more loops than these continuity issues have been. I really love how she accepted another proposal when she's still spinning out from the flop that was the last one. I also appreciated how that drama hasn't been dealt with properly. I don't even know anymore. The only positive I have at this point is that the intimate scenes are mostly fade to black/vague now rather than a whole chapter.
Tamsin is always so BA, but I am so glad she is making things better for herself. I love the plan she sets up to help push her magic along. I am super happy with how things are progressing in her relationships. I have laughed, cried and shouted for joy in this book. I am at the point of being ecstatic for more but so sad that the ending is coming. I guess I'll just have to reread it all again.
Per usual, Erin has created another masterpiece and left us NEEDING more! I’m so happy Tamsin and her mates are finally in a place where they’re all happy together or on their way to be. She deserve to have some time where she’s not fighting or being hurt by any of her mates.
I can’t wait for the next book! Fingers crossed a miracle happens and her mom doesn’t die and she doesnt lose her father. 😩🙏🏼
Tams is navigating 2 worlds and her 5 mates. She has her hands full trying to help everyone she can, reviving more and more Fairies, trying to be everything everyone expects her to be while trying to find her place and acceptance in this world. We're at book 21 and I still can't wait for another book to come out. I wish you'd release all the books at once.
This was such a good entry into the Artemis series and I was so glad to have it so soon after the last book was released. It felt like some of the story lines/issues are starting to get wrapped up instead of snowballing further and real progress was being made - both in the series and in the world Flynn is building. Plot points were definitely moved along and I'm really excited to see where the next few books take us!
This one is one of my favorites so far. Soooo many people are getting behind Tams, changing their outlook, and doing better!! Darby is a dingus and I worry for them. But Hudson and Tams? He’s always been one of my favs. Neldor and Lucca have grown up at lot as well!
Tams is always doing so much I worry she’ll kill herself with it all. I don’t want to have to say goodbye to her Dad. But I know it will be coming. She has to unfreeze her mom at some point
I seriously love this series. It may be long and seem never ending. But the characters have allllllll gone through so much. Some have made great strides in growing and becoming a better version of themselves. What happened in this book has been a long time coming and I’m genuinely excited to see where they go next.
While I love all of the Artemis books, I have to say I’m glad that things (and Tamsin’s relationships mainly) are finding their way back to a good place. As always, can’t wait for the next book in the series! I’m pretty sure this is the longest running series that has kept my attention ever 😊
Great book can't wait for the next one .some of the best characters of any series i have ever read
Love this entire series I love the characters I love the plot and I love the way that this author doesn't make you wait ten years for the next book. I'm also dying to see where the story goes from here
I love that the author is not describing the boyfriends every book now that she puts the characters descriptions in the front the books. Now that Darby is coming back it's easier to enjoy the book and not get disappointed in character development.
God it never rains but it pours. I love love love this series and constantly checking for the next book. I love Tamsins journey and all her guys and can't wait for the next book. This author is amazing and the details in every book flabergast me. Well done on another fantastic read
Finally, we get back to the world building and the secondary characters!! I was a bit disheartened by the last book but I flew through this one - in bliss. There’s still sad moments and laugh out loud parts but it was so nice to see more of the world that Erin and Tamsin are building together 🥰🥰🥰
Now I’m not gonna lie there have some darker issues. Tamsin deals with a lot of crap. And to be honest I’d like one book where NOTHING goes wrong with one of her mates screwing up. But even still I love these books and wait eagerly for them to be released!
I’m glad we are finally going somewhere with the relationships. We see that they are establishing a government and moving up with earned punishments from the different species. I cannot wait to see the other books coming out because of how everything is progressing with Tamsin.
Its getting so much better every freaking book, that is talent. To have this many books and still have me on the edge of my seat. Wow just wow. Erin r Flynn is seriously so talented. If you read this review thank you for sharing your gift with us. Truly. You help me escape from my life and help me in ways that are hard to put to words. Thank you.
better than meh like the last few books in the series
Decent plot this novel, still too rushed. Jumps around a lot leaving things underdeveloped & without any resolution or direction. Wondering why Tasmin forgets so much of what she has said & done, assuming this is so she is the victim always in situations.
I want Tams to have all her mates and give Neldor a chance too. I like that she’s fixing her relationship. Once she’s happy there everything else will fall into place. So give her her mates and make her happy. This was a good read as she wasn’t whingeing, all whining all time. Can’t wait till the next book. Hope she give Neldor what he deserves. A chance too.
I cannot wait for the next book📘 to find out what happens with Tamsin and her mates!!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Loved 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 how Tamsin and her dad finally got to spend more time together especially since he will not be around when she unfreezes her mom because they're linked.... Definitely recommend this book 📖 and series 📚!!!!
Erin R Flynn is an amazing, entertaining, imaginative writer! I love this series with a storyline that keeps you wanting to read more and what happens next. I love Tasmin and all her mates who are perfectly flawed and love with all her heart. Thank you Erin for writing and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
