What if everything you thought you knew about how the world worked was challenged?
Elizabeth “Liz” Entin considered herself a rational person who dismissed the concept of an afterlife as nothing more than wishful thinking. Shattered and lost after her dad’s unexpected death, she was moved to investigate if there was any scientific evidence of an afterlife. This exploration shook her understanding of the world to the core.
With a skeptical eye and a profound passion for understanding the inexplicable, Liz studies psychic mediums, takes classes on ghost hunting, attends a séance, attempts spoon bending and volunteers for an organization that scientifically researches mediums. When this organization holds a weekend conference, she finally gets a behind the scenes view into this world, where everything she has been studying culminates in one of the biggest WTF’s Liz has encountered. But is there actually enough evidence to prove we survive . . . that her dad is still with her?
Liz’s hilarious and honest take on the evidence behind life’s biggest mysteries is eye-opening for anyone who has ever wondered about the afterlife, but cannot be content with faith. This book will give you a reason to hope and leave you wondering what the f*ck just happened?!
Enthralling! A true page-turner that tells the story of personal transformation backed by science. Liz writes in a way that mimics a relatable internal monologue- so real, questioning, unfiltered, self-aware, and deep. Deep and trying to be open. I thoroughly enjoyed being taken on Liz's journey of discovery for her sake, but also for many others. If you're curious about what comes next or are at any point in your journey of grief after losing a loved one, you'll want to read WTF Just Happened?!
I liked the book as a personal story and as a way to connect the reader with other sources, making some topics accesible. That been said, I do not like how Elizabeth thinks. She is scientifically minded but not a scientist and it shows.
When I saw the eye-catching cover and title of Liz Entin's book, I knew it would be an amazing read and I was right. Like Liz, I was very close to my father. Dad and I were both diagnosed with bipolar one disorder and he was there for me when I was first hospitalized. He died 11 years ago, and I was so devastated after he died, I had to be hospitalized again and I missed his memorial. The loss of my father ignited a desire in me to communicate with him through a reputable, affordable psychic medium. I haven't experienced a session with a psychic medium that provided evidence of an afterlife yet, but I lived vicariously through Liz's journey. I greatly appreciated her scientific/evidential/non-woo stance!
Liz is a wonderful writer, and I truly looked forward to reading her book each night.
Starting with the brilliant Dr. Raymond Moody, who coined the term near death experience/NDE, I've read tons of psychic medium memoirs & books about the afterlife. Liz's book is totally original in all kinds of ways. She discusses a variety of topics including the afterlife, the scientific studies of psychic mediums, the development of her personal relationships with renowned psychic mediums, and the Forever Family Foundation. I especially appreciated Liz's insider point of view while volunteering for the Forever Family Foundation. I won't forget her visit to the famous Lily Dale (a Spiritualist center) in upstate New York. (Don't miss the seance chapter!) Liz's podcast is fabulous as well. I'm so glad she wrote this book and I hope Liz continues to publish more books in the future!
I loved this book! Liz takes you through her relatable journey through grief and discovering mediumship. I love that she was honest throughout the book and didn’t try to sell the reader on an idea. She talks about many different areas in mediumship and energies through a sciencey point of view. I had a hard time putting her book down. I highly recommend for anyone going through grief, or even just curious on the spiritual world. In my opinion this book is underrated and should have way more views.
This is a fun and informative read. Liz lost her father, but through that tragedy, she started asking questions about life after death. These questions led her down the rabbit hole and and her journey mirrored mine and a lot of others. Her skeptical nature made her ask the tough questions as she delved into the metaphysical, spiritual, and paranormal. Seeking to understand how mediums and psychics work (or even if they're legitimate), Liz merged science and spirituality to find answers.
There were many parts of the books where I had to chuckle as she was asking Mediums questions that I, myself have wondered about; such as "can spiritual energy be measured"? If not, why not? She asked about quantum theories and rightly questioning them in relation to the other side.
It was good to read this journey from someone who is seeking to understand and taking the reader along for the ride. Liz's enthusiasm (and potty mouth) are quite refreshing and a nice contrast from some of the woo-woo and new age thinking in these circles (She's a New Yorker, so she has a built-in BS detector). And while every question isn't answered, it does start the conversation and hopefully science will get to the point where it can answer them.
I'm excited and curious to read how her journey has progressed in her second book.
I have always been fascinated by what could happen after we die. I thought there was probably something, but I was never sure. I learned so much about actual evidence and research. Who knew they were actually conducting blinded-studies on psychic mediums! Liz shares all of this with us as she learns about it herself, and in a very conversational tone. As if she is a friend telling you! She is really funny too, especially how shocked she is by each thing she learns. She is careful to always question and come up with the "rational" explanations as well. It is really fun to go along with her and learn about this world!
Sooo good! Yes this book delves into grief (in a. very realistic way) but it is actually funny. I'm on the fence about whether there is an afterlife, but I really, really hope there is. This book gave me some actual logical reasons to think an afterlife is actually likely. The author was as skeptical as you get, and so thorough in her exploration which made me trust her.
I LOVED this book. Yes I was somewhat skeptical, but Liz approached the topic in such a logical, non-belief based, and fun tone that I could not put it down. I was also pretty shocked to hear places such as the University of Virginia actually study these topics. Liz's tone was so much fun and so easy to read. It felt like talking with a friend. Love it. Definitely recommend.
