I liked this one better than the first two, but I was a little put off given the relationship Ki and Lucas already had. It didn't seem like to me the angst part of them already knowing each other for YEARS and being mates, though they couldn't do anything about it, wasn't really dealt with. It was a little too easy and this is coming from someone who HATES angst lol. It was syrupy sweet, but I was happy Ki got what he had always wanted.
This Hardy Boys mystery is awesome in the beginning. With the tentacles and all. Then it gets bogged down with all that relationship anesthetic. Only to deepen the mystery. Almost leave it on a cliffhanger only to present new information.
Ki and Lucas definitely felt like a couple. Was Todd just there to give them babies? My favorite part, as always with this series, is the pool birth 🥹
"It took Ki a few minutes to work out why such an extreme reaction, but then Todd reminded them through their mind link that their three tentacled daughters were the only female krakens in existence. Alexi, and then the other krakens, had all taken a moment to remember their late mom. It was a sobering and yet joyful experience all in one."
Well well well. The youngest Kraken brother, and only omega, sure has some surprises up his sleeve... or um tentacles? Though he's been babied by his brothers for 500 years, Todd makes it clear in his book that he doesn't need to be coddled. His kraken is strong and has no qualms protecting those he loves or himself from danger. Just like his mates I'm a bit in awe of him.
Lucas and Ki didn't make the best first impression with Todd. It takes some time to straighten it all out, but thankfully not too much. Ki was absolutely the sweetest thing ever. If anyone was "traditionally" omega like in their throuple it would be him. He longs for a family full of babies and when he finds out Todd is the one who can make that dream come true he is over the moon. Lucas is the warrior. He's the protector of the trio. And now there was Todd, the glue that held them together. Their mating was so sweet and hot. I mean these authors don't hold back when it comes to the heat in this book going right in for the DP. 🔥🔥
There is a case of missing dragon eggs to solve, but the romance takes place front and center. I also think I've discovered who Kelvins mate is and no he isn't the next book. That would be Markov and if you've read book 2 I'm pretty sure you know who is mate is as well. I'm looking forward to seeing how Sayle and Oliver are going to pull off this redemption when the book comes out this August.
Todd starts immediately where Victor left off, where Todd met his mates and they made a very poor first impression. I loved Ki and Todd, Lucas less so, I felt he was pretty ignorant of how well he had it compared to the others and never really got that. The steam was there, it was a pretty fast burn and the mpreg features heavily this time. The plot is certainly building to something and with 2 brothers to go, I think it will be pretty explosive. I'm excited for the next book
TODD is the third book in the Tangled Tentacles series and follows Victor's story. The epilogue gave us a glimpse at Todd and his mates, and they didn't make a good first impression, put it that way!
Lucas and Ki are both dragons, both knowing the other was their fated mate but unable to claim each other until they found their first. With their clan politics as well, it wasn't easy. As their stories became known, my heart really broke for Ki. He definitely had the raw end of the deal growing up, and did go along with Lucas, no matter what Lucas thought!
After their disastrous first meeting with Todd, things did settle down, but I didn't exactly feel the three of them together. I did and I didn't, and it's driving me crazy. There was something unidentifiable for me within their dynamic that just didn't seem 'right'.
The other brothers play their parts in this story, and I did like Todd standing up to Alexi and Victor. Todd's shows of physical strength throughout the story were very well-written and a brilliant reminder of the fact no one ever said the Omega was weak!
The pace is certainly faster than in previous books, with different settings and characters. The epilogue leads us to Markov and Cassius. I can't wait to see where that one takes me! Part of it, I think I've got. It's how it will all tie in I don't know, but I do know Ms Sayle and Ms Oliver will get me there in style.
A brilliant addition to the series and definitely recommended by me. ** same worded review will appear elsewhere **
* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book; the comments here are my honest opinion. * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Jun 8, 2022
I enjoyed this story but..... Warning, bit of a whiny rant follows which includes spoiler * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * I don't understand why Todd, being the only omega Kraken, is the only one not to get pregnant. The penetration definitely went all three ways but only 2 conceived. Yes I know Todd said at the start he had doubts about being pregnant and he wasn't sure if he would even be the carrier if he found his mate but still, he's an omega, the only omega. Even after the others gave birth, he was worried about getting them pregnant again but no worries about him doing the same. For me, this took away from the story a little, even if the 3 had had a discussion about Todd not wanting to carry (which is fine) or his fears about doing so or them joking about his turn next or something but it just wasn't mentioned within the triad at all, it just didn't make sense to me. Rant over.
This is the third book in the tangled tentacles series, and my least favorite so far. I like the characters and thought they were sweet with each other. My issues with it are the pacing, boom they meet, boom their pregnant, boom babies, etc. Plus I felt really bad for Lucas and ki, it felt like their relationship just was put on the back burner for Todd. That still might be a pacing issue. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it and plan on reading the next book when it comes out.
Reviewed for Love Bytes – 4.5 Hearts Happy behind a computer, Todd rarely felt the need to let his Kraken out. However, since he became an uncle, his Kraken had been restless. Being the only omega among his brothers, Todd had no references or anyone to ask for information regarding what to expect. As the technician and researcher among his family, he’d also exhausted many avenues of research. Then Todd’s world explodes when two Alpha’s turn up on his doorstep voicing the word – mine. The world of Tangled Tentacles is one I’ve fallen in love with. It’s different and entertaining. The books contain everything I look for in a story/series – humor, drama, angst, ass-kicking, love, protectiveness, and detective work. The brothers have strong individual personalities, but they are a force above and beyond as a group. Todd is book three of the series, and in this instalment, two dragons join the family of Krakens alongside a bear and a vampire. Each set of mates, too, seems to bring a different element to the story. For Todd and his mates, the underlying theme is parenthood and a deep longing to become one. The story is told in the third person from the viewpoints of Todd, Lucas and Kijina (Ki). The worldbuilding was perfect for my reading tastes - enough to build a picture without going into minute detail. One of the story arcs is the theft of dragon eggs. Here, there is a glimpse into the tight-knit world of dragon clans, their hierarchy, and the variation of characters from loyal to total dick. As for the main cast – Todd sure as hell isn’t a subservient omega – he rocks. Lucas and Ki are devoted, soldiers and tough alphas with an element of loveable rogues. Ki, with his deep-seated need to be a parent, absolutely melted me. I found Todd’s brothers amusing as they came to terms with their baby brother having sex, being able to hold his own, and not really needing their protection. The blurb mentions Mpreg. Some readers are not fans of male pregnancy, and I can understand some hesitancy, but here it fits the story. The brothers are the only remaining Krakens, so nature has given them a way to expand their kind regardless of the gender of their mate. The pregnancies are not drawn-out affairs either, yet they include some emotional, caring, and humorous aspects that are parts of the miracle of pregnancy and birth. In short, Todd (the story) contains tender and macho moments, drama, humor, and some pregnancy moments that every parent will recognize. An incredibly well-rounded story – Bravo. And the best part is that the next in the series, Markov looks like it’s going to be a doozy that I am sooo looking forward to. This book was provided free in exchange for a fair and honest review for Love Bytes.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 3 in the Tangled Tentacles series, and you really SHOULD read books one, Alexi and two, Victor, before this one. There is stuff that happens in those books that is referenced here, but not fully explained. And, cos, you know, I said so!
I loved, I mean LOVED Alexi and Victor, and was looking forward to Todd, especially once I knew he gets 2 mates, dragons no less. But while I rally really REALLY liked this one, it doesn't quite hit the spot the other two do.
AND I can say, with fair certainty, why too. Which for me and a Sayle book?? Unheard of! The woman messes with my book head, and leaves me with so many freaking questions!
This book revolves around Todd, who is the youngest of 5, and an Omega. For the most part, being Omega means you are smaller, and weaker. Todd hates being Omega. So I was expecting a huge battle with Todd, finding his place with 2 mates, any mates really. But Todd, apart from the meeting and it's aftermath, just kinda goes with it, you know? Once Todd got the full story of Lucas and Ki, it was like "oh, ok then!)
AND
The search for the missing shifters is hardly mentioned here. The story focuses on the missing dragon EGGS and where they went, and who has been taking for so very long. The missing eggs mystery was all wrapped up with a big fat bow FAR too easily for my liking, I'm afraid!
THAT said, however, the way things develop between Todd, Lucas and Ki is sweet and smexy and hella hot! And the baby thing surprised me! Dragon eggs AND baby kracken?? So cute.
And we get the insight into the final two brothers and their stories. Markov, who is currently missing, and that darn commander. And then there is Kelvin and the F-B-freaking-I-guy who has got him all a-fluster.
I will read them, because I feel (book feelings, people, are very important!) there are some things we don't know about these boys yet, and what happened to their parents and whether they really ARE the final kracken alive on the planet (NOT counting babies, of course!)
I gave this 4.5 stars, but can't log that in some places so I'm rounding it . . . .
up to 5 full stars, cos I did love Todd, Lucas and Ki together.
Todd is the third book in the new kraken series by J.P. Sayle and Lisa Oliver.
This has by far been my favorite so far! I loved everything about this one, the characters, the different dynamics, the mystery plot that's apart of it. I just loved everything. This author duo has once again wrote another knockout book. Great characters? Check. Great storyline/plot? Check. Great background and detailed descriptions? Check, check and check!
I don't want to giveaway any spoilers but I loved the babies in this book. The dragon shifters being mates to a Kraken is so creative. I've never read anything like this before and I think that's a really good thing. All of the characters that are in this book all add something to move the story along and adds to the story. I feel like all of the characters are necessary for this story to feel complete.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series I hope it comes out very soon!
I highly recommend this to anyone! I think everyone should read this book and I strongly recommend you read the previous books first. While they are all standalones the other books adds to the story.
*I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest review*
This trio is not off to an auspicious start, given that Todd's dragon mates (dragons always mate in threes because apparently dragon babies are a handful?) have been together since they were kids but vowed not to touch each other until they found their third and therefore get carried away and kind of forget Todd's existence when they meet. Probably the book would have been stronger if they had fleshed out that emotional struggle a little longer, but that's really not what this series is about. Sex and conspiracies are what we're here for, so that's what we get. Also dragon and kraken babies.
CN: One of these dragons REALLY wants to have babies, so pregnancy is a HUGE part of this book. Also apparently these krakens' internal beast just operates independently and impregnates people without, you know, a healthy consensual discussion, so also readers should probably be aware of that. But then again it's an mpreg omegaverse series, soooooo...
Binge-reading/listening to them. Seriously you would not be able to tell two authors have written this book, as it seems so well written. I would highly recommend it.
I loved the characters and the relationship between Todd and his two dragon mates. The story was great and kept me involved throughout. I would recommend it to anyone who likes shifter romance.
The narration by Kevin Earlywine was on-point; his different voices made it easy to follow the story. I did speed up the audio to 1.25 on audible, which is typical for me.

Ok, I have to admit that I started reading this one ready to get mad at Ki and Lucas, they did not leave a good first impression, but same as Todd, once they explained the whys and talked about a bit of their lives I was ready to forgive them... I feel sad for what they had to endure just because of silly traditions and I respect their perseverance and loyalty. And they did show Todd how happy they were to have him as their mate. The end of the case left a bitter taste but since it seems that more will be explored in Markov's book I hope that we can at least get a resolution and catch the organization behind so no one else has to suffer through the same.
3 stars - I liked this instalment a tad better than the first two. What I miss most with this series is a plot. The potential for a great plot is there, but it's completely untapped.
Even though Todd is a kraken omega, this is not omegaverse and male kraken omega only differ from kraken alpha in their ability to bear young and that's it. In this instance it wasn't important at all, I am not sure why the author even made the alpha/omega distinction. Though it was nice to have an omega being strong, bad-ass and doing the impregnating ;)
Todd is fun, Ki is absolutely NOT an alpha like the authors claim, and Lucas' true potential was never brought out.
Basically the book is porn. Not much plot at all. The hard part of the story lasted one chapter. The rest of the book is absolute smut, pregnancy and set up for the next brother.
The book is just, meh, which is sad, because Todd deserved so much more as the brother that keeps getting placed as "less than"
AMAZING!! MAGNIFICENT!! FANTASTIC!! Oh Todd has hit the jackpot!!! Ki and Lucas have found their dream come true. This Book is INCREDIBLE!! Yes I loved every second of this. JP SAYLE and LISA OLIVER have delivered another wonderful love story that kept me glued to my chair! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS TANGLED TENTACLES SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved this book. Todd being the smallest but oh so strong was amazingly wonderful. How he put his mates in check and especially Alexi and Victor was magnificent. The right amount of drama and issues made this story so much more than I expected but it was definitely a great read.
All of these books have been good. I am glad to see Todd get his mates and his happiness. Ow we just have to wait for Markov and then Kelvin. Dragons and Krakens..who knew?
I enjoyed seeing the MCs connect and get to know each other. I also liked seeing the interactions with family. I'm here for the kids, more dragons and krakens.
I wanted to like this one so much. But it was very annoying that Todd got Lucas pregnant and didn’t give him time to grieve over something the man didn’t even want. I felt like that was over the line

🥰 finished this tonight. Amazing loved Todd and his dragons - yes dragons not one but TWO 😍 if you haven't already checked this series out. Can't wait for Markov's book.
