I don't believe in monsters, but I sleep with the sheets over my head. I hate getting wet, but I stay in the shower until the hot water runs out. I never go over the speed limit, but I like to race cars. I'm a good listener, but I talk a lot in my sleep. I'm not a bad person, but I write to free my demons.

This is a great fun read! Danny is a 16 year old in love with his best friend Becky, who is the girlfriend of his former best friend Kevin. Danny is celebrating his birthday when he discovers he has magical powers and that evil forces are out to kill him. He then finds out he is adopted and the story turns out to be a clever mixture of Greek mythology interacting with current times.
There are a good mix of real and fantasy characters combined with a great deal of action, which makes this a fast moving story.
Apart from the fantasy elements of the story, there are also modern day teenage elements such as romance and bullying, a combination that will make this book popular with the YA readers.

A fast paced entertaining read with many elements of surprise. 'Last Hero' is a YA fantasy adventure that escapades into a smoothly driven world of legend and mythological creatures. This is the first epic installment of this series.

The main character 'Danny Neumann' is a normal teen just trying to get through high school.
On his 16th birthday a stranger appears out of no where, a mysterious man dressed in black whom tries to kill him - All of a sudden, energy erupts from Danny's hands and hurls the man through the air - His seemingly "normal life" is short-lived and isn't so normal any more...
(no spoilers)

The author certainly wastes no time from the beginning of this epic journey as attention flies off the pages and grasp a very different sachet with twists and turns galore. The plot thickens to evolve nicely into a silhouette of creative characters that make this preview to the series a good one. Of course, as with all series, there are unanswered questions you wont answered, but 'Last Hero' leaves us readers with a sense of fulfillment until the follow-up precedes. Looking forward to getting my hands on Book 2. An engaging experience.

Last Hero by Timothy D. Mclendon

I received a copy for review.

With my three star ratings I always like to start by saying this doesn't mean the book was bad. Not at all. For me a three star means I've enjoyed the read, but there is room for improvement.

The storyline in Last Hero is bullet proof. It combines mythology with the present day in a school setting. The character is likeable and kind and develops throughout the novella (not easy to do with a tight word count). There is romance, action and good vs. evil, so something for everyone - in my opinion.

I would have liked a bit more information on the minor characters throughout the story. There were a lot of them and 1-2 more sentences on the various teachers would have been great. How they came to be there. What powers they have. I'm just greedy for more.

A couple of later scenes ended quite abruptly and in the first chapter I felt like I was reading "Danny" every sentence. It is sometimes unavoidable when there are more than two characters present, but otherwise could have been cut down.

I loved the ending! Especially the sneaky little couple of paragraphs right at the end. When you go on to read the back of the book blurbs it makes sense. It seems Timothy D. McLendon likes a twist in the plotline.

I would recommend this to readers who like anything to do with superheros, video games and comics. It will set your imagination going wild.

Loads of action, surprises, teen angst, and a bit of mythology make this fast paced adventure a perfect book for the YA enthusiast. It was a very, very good read.

Danny is an average teen boy crushing on his friend, Becky, and just trying to get through high school when suddenly he finds out that there is a lot more to him than he ever anticipated. When a stranger tries to kill him he discovers just how different he is as he defends himself from the attack with a mysterious surge of energy from inside of him. Over the course of the book Danny finds out his power comes from his godly heritage, in fact he's a demigod. That means some very cool mythological monsters are after this hero and it is up to him to protect his family and friends.

Timothy D. McLendon keeps readers fully engaged and entertained from the first page of this adventure with several plot twists and turns and while I would not call this a cliffhanger ending there are certainly a bunch of questions that are left unanswered for future books. I for one will be looking out for them!

Blending high-school life with Greek Mythology, Timothy McClendon creates an enjoyable romp that takes us into the suddenly chaotic life of Danny Neumann, a normal teenager who wants nothing more than to win the heart of Becky, his long-time friend, who has taken up with his former best friend Kevin, now the school bully.

But dark forces are gathering, and when a dark stranger knocks on Danny's door with the purpose of ending his life, Danny discovers that he has powers unlike any other. Wielding the power of a demigod, Danny must quickly learn to hold his own against a gauntlet of baddies from Greek mythology that seem to be lurking around every corner.

The action is decent, and the imagery isn't too scary, so I think kids and preteens might get a kick out of Last Hero. It is a little far-fetched and silly in places, so for that reason I don't think adults would enjoy it quite as much.

A fast read, and an enjoyable one.

I'm always up for a shortish action romp, and Last Hero fits the bill. It has ingredients sure to hook those hesitant readers: quick transitions between action scenes, magic, a girl to rescue and a day to save. I do have two 'cons' though. First, I feel that the quick plot is sometimes sped along by characters too willing to accept some outlandish things. "You say that person is a horrible monster, but all everyone else in the world sees is a normal looking lady...of course I believe you!" Second, another commenter said something about preteens liking this book. This is NOT a Percy Jackson book. It's a book with a 16 year old main character with some language and situations I'd prefer my 5th and 6th grade students not read about. If you're thinking about letting your young adolescent read it, you might want to read it first. Just my opinion, of course.

Timothy McClendon has created a thrilling YA adventure that can be enjoyed by children of all ages.

Danny Neumann is the typical angst filled teen. Yet, his girlfriend problems and issues with the school bully are suddenly overshadowed when he is suddenly cast into a world of mythological gods and menacing monsters. He must fight for his own life and rescue his girlfriend against overwhelming odds. He is forced by circumstances beyond his control to take what philosopher Joseph Campbell (“The Hero with a Thousand Faces”) referred to as the “hero’s journey.”

With plenty of suspenseful plot twists, lots of horrible monsters, and engaging characters this ambitious fantasy kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page.

For sixteen years Danny Neumann’s life had been pretty much predictable. Two great parents. Best friends, Becky and Kevin. High school. But that is about to change. He learns from a strange old man that his real name is Alexandro Helen and he has supernatural powers. Soon he finds himself plunged into a world where everything is not what it seems. Members of the school staff are anything but normal and he sees them for what they really are, characters from Greek mythology. This is a great story for teen readers and anyone who loves Greek mythology. Last Hero is an action packed tale of adventure and magic.

Excellent YA adventure

This book combines high school angst and Greek mythology in a fast-paced, well crafted story. Danny thinks he's a typical teenager until his sixteenth birthday when his parents tell him they're not his parents and he's not who he thought. People start calling him Alexandros. One tries to kill him. The reader learns the truth along with Danny, just in time for the battle with the Minotaur in the corn maze. While the victory is satisfying, the story's final twist hints that it's not over at all. Great fun! Highly recommended.

This is an Epic story! I truly enjoyed it. I could visualize every detail because it was written so well. The action just jumps from the pages. I allowed my fifteen year old son who is not a reader to look at it. He could not put it down! That right there says a lot! No question about it 5 stars all the way!

Great story about a normal teenager, Danny Neumann who finds out on his 16th birthday that his parents whom he loves, are not his blood parents. The arrival of a mysterious stranger suddenly makes him aware of having magical powers.
The story revolves round Greek Mythology and is very complex in certain points but certainly a good read for teens.

I liked this book because it contained Greek mythology and it was really good. I have read it twice because it was so good. The only thing is is that it needs a whole series because it left us a cliff hanger.
