I’m Rachel Collins, low witch and raven shifter in hiding. I spend my days tending the cash register at a local magic shop and my nights patrolling the streets for vampires with a death wish. Until the night I spot the mark of the Soulless on some lowly vampire’s wrist.
The Soulless answer to Valkas, the original vampire and the most ruthless of them all. They’re the same bloodsuckers who murdered my parents and kidnapped my sister. I want answers—and maybe a little revenge.
Along comes Venn, a handsome, protective wolf shifter who takes my breath away. We’re both after the same guy, and as much as it kills me to ask for help, I kind of need it.
Heaven help me. The dark, dangerous road we’re traveling together will either free my sister or get me killed.

Alicia Rades is a USA Today Bestselling Author of over forty young adult and new adult paranormal novels. Her stories follow characters in equal-dynamic romantic relationships and feature themes of discovering and claiming one's inner power. When she's not dreaming up magical stories, she's either binge-watching paranormal TV shows, meditating, or making crafts and cooking with her family. Her favorite tropes are small-town mysteries, witches, and magical academies set in the modern world. She has an unhealthy obsession with psychic characters and writes with a deck of tarot cards next to her computer.
I just met Raven and I already dislike her. I can see the woe me angle from a mile away. I can also see the insta loving from a mile away. I can see everything that's going to happen from a mile away. ✌
So I got through this as an audiobook... The narrator's voice was one of the most annoying! And her Venn voice was just atrocious. I don't know if this would hit better as an actual book.. the main character is annoying. It's like the author couldn't decide if she wanted Ray to be strong and arrogant about her talents of meek and shy. Sometimes she's totally full of herself and then suddenly she becomes meek and its just confusing. The story line was.... not the strongest but not terrible either... I really don't know how to feel. I both hated it and was mildly amused by it. It was very predictable and I definitely wouldn't pick it up again
Interesting characters and a good plot idea. Just some things didn't make sense. I'll try to be general so as not to spoil it. If your friend was being held captive until you retrieved something at great peril to trade for your friend...after you got the item and know someone's street you to get it back...would you (1) go directly to rescue your friend by trading the item, or (2) go home, hang out, pack some bags, get a good night's sleep and head out to get your friend the next day? Most people would go directly to save their friend, especially knowing sometime was after them to get it back. But that's not what these characters do. It just doesn't make sense. The other problem I had was I didn't feel the emotion between the two main characters. It just suddenly was a thing and I didn't know how it happened. The ending was oddly placed too as they didn't even finish the first mission. I don't feel the need to continue the series to find out what happens.
If you’re on the market for a typical teenage vampire, magic witchy - united against a common enemy story with plenty of drama and even though it’s somewhat of an overdone plot, its still an exciting read (or listen in my case as I had the audiobook format of this book).
There’s good pacing within the story and the characters are easily likeable. With a main romantic story plot and many vampires to slay, quests to undertake and missions to save a sister and a powerful witch to achieve, there’s plenty to keep you going.
Not bad all in all. Made for a very easy listen and will definitely continue with the series to see what happens and how things unfold.
Not every character that has ever walked is a 'badass' and this story doesn't get that.
Rae is not badass, she's nothing. This character has no fighting ability, no witty comeback ability, no strength, and no purpose. I can't understand how she lasted as long as she has when she has no idea about what's going on with anything.
Venn and the family keep going on about how good she is at healing spells, like hell she is! It takes her 4 tries for anything to work, that's not super powerful or gifted, it's just sad.
The love story with Venn was beyond predictable and there is no chemistry between them. There's no personality in any of the characters so of course there is no chemistry.
The whole plot is so overdone it's a chore to get through the book. I read a few of her other books and I should have known better, but now I'll keep an eye out for Alicia Rades name on books that seem to be a deal because even at .99 for 6 books, it's not a bargain. I bought the books and I will read them because I already found my DNF for 2022, but after I'm done I'm not touching anything by the author again.

*Thoughts*
Ravenite is the first installment in author Alicia Rades Vengeance and Vampires series. This story takes place in the fictitious town of Nocton, Illinois. Rachel Collins is the infamous Ravenite (Raven of the Night). She's a raven shifter and witch who has had zero training. Rachel is on a mission to find the Soulless who killed her parents, and took her sister Jenna and made her a blood slave. Rachel shifted for the first time that night. Now people talk about the raven shifter vigilante, the Ravenite. Rachel has killed enough vampires to earn a life sentence if the authorities ever catch on to what she's been up to.
It was Ok.... it took me a week of picking it up and putting it down it didn't Grip me.
The Mc is a Low witch (which im sure we will discover she is much stronger later on) and also a rare raven shifter.... shes looking for her sister who was abducted...
through chance she runs into a group who may be on the same path as her, they help each other while she falls for one of the guys in the group....
I listened to the audiobook and for me it was like a Cross between Buffy the vampire slayer and Vampire diaries 🤷♀️. I thought it was really good and I'd really like to continue the series.
A Thoroughly Gripping & Darker Look at Vampire, Witch & Shifter Lore!!👍
Rachel is a Witch but also a Raven Shifter. After her parents are murdered & sister abducted by a faction of Vampires known as 'The Soulless' she manages to get emancipated & moves to the City. She's desperate to try & find Jenna, who she hopes is still alive, even as a blood slave!
Sitting on her fire escape late one night she sees a man hassling a woman whos clearly terrified. Rachel shifts & attacks the man using her beak & claws - eventually turning back into her 17 yr old female form. The woman is able to escape but Rachel realises that the man is actually a Vampire. He starts to attack her but she's able to stop him by plunging some rusty metal through his heart! All that's left behind are his clothes and a Raven feather. It fills her with a purpose, she has the ability to help and now she knows she can! That's how she became known as the Raven of the Night in the Press, a vigilante Vampire killer, a 'typo' soon had her being called 'Ravenite'!!🌜💥
While she's hunting a 'Soulless' Rae meets a Wolf Shifter, Venn. He introduces her to his family, they're not all blood relations but family by choice!🙏✨ Fiona, Teagan & Ryland. They're trying to retrieve a locket that was stolen from them so they can free their family's Matriarch! It turns out the same Vampire Rae is hunting is the one they're after as well so they agree to team up 😎 Venn & Rae certainly seem to have a spark brewing 🔥🔥
I found this story gripping, I liked the darker turn this tale has on the old lore's also the Synchrony explanation for magic & balance etc I really enjoyed the world & characters this Author has created. They're fully rounded & feel real as well as likeable enough!✨ Rae is a total badass but I think they all were 😊 I'm really looking forward to reading more about this mishmash of a kickass family!!💕😎
Rae is a shifter/witch hybrid. She can shift into a raven. She kills vampires but she is trying to locate her sister who was abducted by The Soulless (vampires). During her search for her sister, she meets Venn as wolf shifter, Ryland, a fox shifter, Teegan, human and Fiona, witch. She joins them, although Ryland was reluctant at first, and together they search for an Artefact. Rae is attracted to Venn and their chemistry develops in the book. Later, we see that Ryland is also searching for his sister, Sondra
There is quite some action in this book. It was very easy to read and the story is entertaining. I particularly liked how Alicia uses funny nicknames to describe characters Rae hasn't met
I received an advanced/review copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content and honesty of my review.
This was a great read. There were a lot of sarcastic quips, a nice dose of action that held my attention, and a lovely cast of characters whom I actually felt invested in. There was just enough depth to make it interesting without being overbearing and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book!
This just really wasn’t the ideal book for me. The plot is hard to follow, the characters are immature and their priorities are messed up.
I have no idea why it popped up for me when I searched for shifter romance, because there was like zero romance 🥵 the main characters getting together was awkward and weird. Very much a case of two people who has to be together just because they’re single 🤷🏽♀️
Wonderful start of the series!!!... This is the first Alicia's book I have read and I loved it!!!... The plot is so good, the characters development, the lead female heroin is such a bad-ass, driven by justice and protectiveness to the weaker... The new friends / family she has found, all worthy to fight for, they will unite efforts to save their love ones... Can't wait for the next book and find out how their rescue mission will go!!!
2,5☆ La idea me gustó, pero me pareció una historia lenta. No sé si fue que tenía demasiadas descripciones o que, pero sentí que cada escena duraba tanto que me aburría. Solo el final fue rápido, por lo menos estuvo bien.
I was not a huge fan. The main character professed to be this bad ass vampire killer but ended up in trouble in the first fight. It just took too long for her to find herself, connect with the other half, and have a win.
Ravenite is the first installment in the Vengence and Vampire series about an 18 year old low witch/raven shifter named Rachel ‘Rae’ Collins.
Eight years ago, Rae’s parents were brutally murdered and her sister Jenna, was abducted by the original vampire, Valkas. Since then, Rae has made it her mission to track the Soulless in the hopes of rescuing her sister who is being kept as a blood slave. While chasing a mutual lead, Rae meets Venn, a wolf shifter who helps her when she’s inadvertently infected with vampire venom.
Venn introduces Rae to his family in the hopes that she will work together with them to rescue their matriarch Sondra, a high witch who is being held for ransom by the vampire, Matias Vayne, in return for a valuable locket which can foretell the future. Fiercely independent with a huge chip on her shoulder to boot, Rae struggles to fit in with Venn’s motley crew. But with the odds stacked against her in the upcoming battle, will she overcome her trust issues and realise that she needs their help as much as they need hers?
Ravenite was my first introduction to the author and I was impressed by her interesting and unique approach into witch/shifter and vampire lore. The strength of the book rests in the plot and the world of magic (Synchrony) that the author has managed to create rather convincingly.
The book was an encouraging start to what looks to be a promising series. I recommend it to fans of dark urban fantasy.
Disclaimer: I received an advanced copy of Ravenite and am voluntarily reviewing it.
As an advanced reader, I am giving an honest review of this new and upcoming book.
I didn’t want to put this book down. It started on a high note that kept rolling straight through. Every page more action moved the story along.
I was happy with the character development. Every person had their place. The story was precise and not over spoiled with unnecessary filler.
The book came to a well defined ending, yet left plenty of room for the next book to pick up and take off. I will be getting book two when it is available.
Magic, Shifters & Vampires Oh My! And of course a kickass main character named Rachel who knows magic and is a raven shifter! I am totally loving this story. It’s full of action and never a dull moment. And I am so crushing on Venn sexy werewolf and all. I love stories about magic and shifters. This one did not disappoint. I highly recommend. Sorry I don’t like to post any spoilers so please I highly recommend this as a must read! It’s awesome!
