Sail the high seas in this spirited anthology of traditional pirate tales gathered from many cultures. These swashbuckling stories are packed with drama and adventure. There are accompanying gift items.
Richard Walker retells 7 different pirate adventures originating from different cultures around the world for example Scandinavian to Irish. This collection includes characters such as Robin Hood who the children you are teaching may be aware of and in this way allows the children to instantly be engaged as this would be a 'new adventure'. Alongside this children can also experience other forms of adventure stories though it may not seem as clear for example the story of 'Pirate Grace'
As a teacher, this collection of stories open up a large range of different lesson activities and experiences that we can include during our teaching for example incorporating drama, film or influencing the children's writing.
I personally enjoyed reading these stories due to being able to again experience different stories from cultures I may not dwell in before such as Scandinavian tales. Another positive I found was again that of it allowing many ideas to be created that myself could as a teacher to help progress children's learning in English alongside including cross-curricular links (eg geography).
This one is a big hit all around in our home. The kids love it and I don't mind reading from it as the stories are entertaining and well-composed. I love that Grainne O'Malley is included! The cds are a tremendous bonus as my 4 year old is now in the habit of putting on stories to listen to while she plays in her room. All the Barefoot Books are very nice in that regard.
