I never understood why my momma would keep such a big secret from me. I begged for an answer, but she refused to give in. Now that momma is gone, her secret has been revealed.
The secret now has a name.
My name is Memphis Reynolds, and I find myself driving hours south in search of him. My biological father. The man momma kept hidden away from me for reasons I never knew.
Surrounded by half-truths, lies, and heartbreak, I find something I wasn’t searching for.
Three very different, very exceptional, very handsome men, will teach me that it is okay to let go the dreams of a little girl, and grab hold the desires of a grown woman.
They have no idea what they’re getting themselves into.
So, in my HUGE paperback/hardback stack of books this was the next one up. Now this author is going to be at an event that I'll be attending so I'm conquering two birds here. This story was very unexpected, partially because I didn't read the blurb and the title of the story gives nothing away. Once I was able to sit down and not be interrupted this story is great. There is a lot of "grey" areas that are left to the imagination *sob* but for a book straight out of the blue and a new-to-me author it's got huge potential for a second story. The characters are fleshed out just enough, I love the main character, Memphis, and her backstory is something that is very current. Strictly speaking I think romance readers of all types will like this one.
This was pretty good. I really liked Memphis! She was so sweet and caring. The guys were amazing too, I love me some southern gentlemen! Tanner was sweet and too nice at times, i only had an issue with that in terms of the Gretchen problem. Cain was funny and laid back. Jasper was more of the serious one between the other two but I loved how he was more firm with some of the issues going on than the others. I also really loved Jim (Memphis’s grandad), he was what family should’ve been for her and I’m happy that he was there for her and loved her.
Now, onto some of the things that irked me. Gretchen was annoying and I wished Tanner was more assertive on turning her down before she did so much damage. I’m happy that she got what was coming for her at the end. I wished Memphis’s father got what was coming to him, she was too nice and gave him too many chances. Another thing that bugged me a bit was the transitions, but that might be because the book is on the shorter side. The transitions between the chapters were a bit off, we’d see them about to talk and then the next chapter is a few days after that and some of the conversations were skimmed. I also wished there were some sexy times shown in the book but that’s just my inner hoe talking xD Other than that this was a good read!
***I was given an ARC for the purposes of this review***
If you are looking for a story with explicit sexual scenes, this book is not for you. Having said that, I adore this book for that reason! Memphis’s momma dies and leave her the information about her father, which she has kept from her for 20+ years, which Memphis uses to go looking for him. Memphis just wants to know who the man, and his family, is. Like all people, she hopes to have a relationship with him, but knows that probably won’t happen. Memphis doesn’t expect a happily ever after with the man, so I’m pleased that Kelly kept it pretty close to reality with that aspect of the story.
Then Memphis meets the guys. Cain, Tanner and Jasper. Not much backstory is given about the guys, which is a little frustrating when it’s alluded to how they handle life in general, but we are told one of them has family that is Poly (I won’t spoil the surprise as to which it is!). We watch as the guys start the foundation of the relationship with Memphis before they inform her they all want to be with her.
Through a broken nose, covered in mud and a shooting, we watch Memphis come more into herself as well. She started the book as a strong heroine and ends it even stronger with the love and support of her guys, and her grandaddy.
As mentioned above, no explicit sexual scenes, but lots of heat given off in the interactions. While a HEA for Memphis, it is left on a bit of a cliff hanger for other characters in the book, so be warned!
4.5 Stars! I loved Memphis! (The main character herself AND the book!) There was something unique and very likable about each one of her guys. I was surprised that as a RH, there weren't any 'steamy' scenes, but the book flowed well without them, regardless. I don't think it took anything away from their love story. Sweet romance, wonderful characters. Very Good!
I was lucky enough to bet read this book and I could not put it down! A snarky pink haired heroine whose life has not been perfect learns more about herself after he Momma dies, she meets a few new people whilst trying to discover more about her past and meets three sinfully sexy men along the way
With a lovely storyline there is a perfect balance of emotion, drama, excitement, romance and humour, this is a book that I am going to read over and over again and I highly recommend it
So, I never read novellas because I feel like I never get a full, meaty story. I know this wasn't a novella, but it felt like it. The premise was great and the characters seemed enjoyable, but we were just told how in love, or sad, or angry, or lonely people were instead of going thru the motions with them. It's hard to explain, but 1 example is when the h is telling her father off because he never wanted her, you get told how she felt, but we never hear inner monologue or situations that warrent her daddy issues. This plot had so much juicy stuff to it, that it needed to be way longer and more emotionally disciptive. I did love her southern phrases and the location descriptions. Also, just an fyi there are NO sexy times in this book whatsoever. It is eluded, but not touched upon at all.
What a great read! Memphis is a seriously awesome woman, she’s funny, witty, independent and has one hell of a backbone. When she faces this new challenge in her life, she tackles it head on and carved out happiness for herself in the process. Kelly did a fantastic job with the writing, characters and story arc. This story and it’s characters are easy to relate to and very realistic. I very much enjoyed reading Memphis, Cain, Tanner, Jasper (my favorite one), and Jim’s story. There are more characters but I’m angry at them all and also I don’t want to give anything away 😆 I definitely recommend this read to anyone that enjoys a contemporary romance with an HEA. Also I look forward to reading the next book!
This book is well written but there is too much story for the length. I think those who enjoy shorter stories will enjoy this but for me there wasn't enough development and everything happened way too fast. I can't imagine that anyone would be able to fully detail and build out the 4 characters and their relationships both individually and together along with creating and building the suspense around the father and step sister in less than 400 pages. Even though the material didn't dive deeply enough to satisfy, what is there is good. The characters are likeable (the ones that are supposed to be at least) and I was rooting for the relationship. I would definitely read this author again.
I received this ARC free and I am doing the review voluntarily. Memphis is an outstanding Reverse Harem romance. It's not like a lot of the others where it's all sexy bedroom scenes. Although these 4 are very sexy together. The storyline is an attention graber but add in the characters and your not putting it down till you finish. I love Memphis's personality and its sad the circumstances she was dealt in life, but she's strong and gets through it all. Tanner , Jasper and Cain are perfect for Memphis and I loved reading how they got through the drama and got their HEA. This is a must read guys. It's got real life situations and drama. Of course dont forget the 3 sexy men devoted to only her
I was quite reluctant to read this book, but it did come highly recommended by someone else so I gave it a go and despite needing to sleep I read it through the early hours of this morning.
It’s a contemporary slow burn RH romance and apart from a few innuendos there’s actually no sex scenes. It’s all about the romance. Bare in mind it’s not a very lengthy book and the pace is quite fast so as I said I devoured it quite quickly this morning.
Memphis has such a bubbly personality and the guys, Tanner, Cain and Jasper, are so sweet and caring! I love what they have going on.
The story itself it well written and easy to follow.
I love, love, love this book. I was hooked from the start and truly could not put this down. The only reason it’s not a five star for me is because the end was rushed. So many things were left without knowing what happened. Says she has relationship with her half sister who she never even talked to in the book and there was no sexy time. You know at the end they’ve had sex, but we didn’t get any of it as readers. Like, none. I know it seems like I have more negative than positive to say, but 98% of this book was so fantastic. I definitely recommend it.
It was a good story, but it just seemed like it should have been longer. From meeting to "I love you" I just didn't feel it was paced right at all. I was virtually 0 steam, not even fade to black. That, I think, had me not invested in their relationship at all. I mean, kisses here and there, lots of declarations, but there was no passion to it. None of the characters came off as passionate about the relationship. It was almost prearranged and handled like a business meeting. Sigh. I just didn't enjoy it.
This was a great, fastpaced book that was rather plot-driven. There is little character development but that's okay. Sometimes I need a book to be short, fast and sweet. I enjoyed the plot and the characters. I did miss some steam and I still have questions about the overal setup. What will happen on the farm? But since there are multiple signs pointing to more books in this 'universe', I think we will learn more in the future. I loved the happy ending (at least for now).
I read RH expecting to see how relationships develop especially when the lead and her harem interact with the real world and react to opinions of others. I did not get that in this book.
Memphis was very eager to describe her appearance and each step she took but in terms of emotions the descriptions were very shallow. Based on what was discussed among the characters and described as their time together, 'I love you's were way too early. I needed more inner dialogue, more feelings, more trial and error. The plot was okay, but the execution was lacking.
Sweet baby Jesus. Yes. So much yes. I cant express how much I loved this story. Theres just enough balance between the "romance", drama and family dysfunction to keep you begging for more. Yes I separated drama and family dysfunction because this story doesnt always have those two things going hand in hand. I've only ever known the author as a co-author, but her single author style has me hooked. Well done is an understatement.
If you love reading reverse harem romance then this book is for you. Kelly A Walker captivates our attention right from the beginning. You are able to get a sense of the character personalities and are drawn immediately into the story. The book is full of twists and turns, fast paced, action packed and the chemistry between Memphis and her men is steamy. I cannot say enough about this book and I highly recommend it!
This story is superb. Good southern charm and a sassy FMC with 3 southern boys. Some spectacular drama and relationship building. The characters are well developed along with the story line, which is fantastic. Memphis is a pink haired school teacher and when she goes to Memphis in search of answers about her father, she comes away with more then she bargained for. Beautifully written and I can't wait for more from this author.
Oh I really loved this story. It's a HEA no cliffhangers. There's potential for another book. I really liked the chemistry between Memphis, Tanner, Cain and Jasper. I loved all their personalities so much. I usually have a fav guy when I read RH stories but in this one I kind loved them all. Definently recommend if you want a completed story and are in between series.
No spoilers of any kind included. So this is all I’m going to say about Memphis and that is it was awesome and I’m going to leave it at that because if I say anymore I’ll be giving away spoilers. Kelly A. Walker did an fantastic job at her first solo book, but I had to keep reminding myself that it was just her writing instead of team duo Riley Walker. Anyway it’s going to be a big HECK YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book because I thought it was fantastic.
This series has love, drama, comedy, and the best personalities a woman could ask for in her men. You get a little glimpse into the lives of true southerners, from muddin' to knowing where you find the best burger and fried chicken. This is a perfect RH romance for anyone looking for a little bit of southern lovin'.
I loved this story. It's so sweet and will leave you feeling serene. Memphis is a fun character she has her insecurities like all of us but is willing to take a chance on the father she never knew . Arthur and his family are not what she expected to find. Along the way, she finds love in an unexpected way.
Memphis is a sweet, quick RH romance with a dash of action. I wish the characters had been a little more developed - things moved pretty fast - but overall it was a fun read. Would recommend for light beach reading or when you have a quiet weekend! There's some language and violence but only implied sex.
This book was incredible. I had a smile on my face just about the entire time I was reading it. I love the fact that Kelly Walker is from the South so we actually get an accurate picture of how things are down here. Memphis is an amazing FMC and her guys are just as incredible. I can't wait for more!
This book was super sweet. Cute mc, good story. It was exactly like cotton candy. There wasnt a lot to the plot, but you could follow along just fine. Was lacking a bit of heat but all in all I enjoyed the read. Was a nice break from the heavier things I've been reading.
Was a great read! Loved the storyline and character/relationship development. Seriously didn’t see the last bit coming. The only issue I had with the book ... the mention of Princess in one chapter ... and then nothing (it’s not like Princess was a main part of the story or anything, so really not a big deal) Other than that though - the book was awesome!
I normally lean more towards paranormal or scifi, but every now and then a contemporary book sucks me in and this book was one of them I absolutely loved Memphis, her story, and the world that was built. I devoured this book and lost sleep to finish it. I highly recommend this one!
A sweet, sassy, sometime scary kind of southern love story
An excellent story written with enough love and intensity that it's hard to put down. A love story not quite like I've read before, but I am probably going to finish this review and read it again. It's that good.
Memphis is not just for Elvis…When Memphis finally gets the name of her bio Dad, she heads straight for her namesake. There she is lucky enough to be welcomed by her Grandaddy and three hot men who all want to be with her. Steam 5/10 * Sweet 10/10 * 1st POV * RH * HEA
This was just good for me... I really liked the story line and there isn’t many contemporary books in this genre so props for that alone. I just wish that there was more detail to the character and relationship building. I’m hoping there’s more detail in the next book.
