Imagine having to pretend you’re still madly in love with your ex…
Irfan Hadzic was my partner, my safe place, my home. But I destroyed it all—walking away without an explanation, leaving him with more questions than answers.
I’m trying to get over him, only fate keeps throwing us back together.
As the maid of honor and best man at my best friend and brother’s wedding, we have to pretend like nothing has changed.
Fake smiles. Practiced touches. A love story that is no longer real.
Or at least, it shouldn’t be.
Because every time his fingers brush mine and his gaze lingers too long, the connection between us is palpable.
He doesn’t know why I left. And I’m terrified that when he finds out, he won’t see me in the same light.
This was one of my most anticipated reads this year, so I had very high expectations, and they were all met and even exceeded. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK. There’s nothing I didn’t like. The writing is simply beautiful and pulls you right into the minds of the characters. The chemistry between them was amazing and felt so real. I really enjoyed how the story shows healing and growth with such care and respect. Alina and Irfan were both so strong and real. Alina wassmart and confident, and Irfan was so respectful, and swoon-worthy. The cultural details added a lovely layer to the story, making it feel even richer and more authentic. I appreciated learning so much about new traditions, food, and family dynamics woven naturally into the plot. The mental health theme was handled with such a gentle but powerful way, I really appreciate that. Now I need a physical copy to have on my bookshelf. Thank you so much to the author and Luna Literary for giving me the opportunity to read the book in advance, I received this for free and I'm leaving a honest review
This one had potential— there were definitely parts I really enjoyed!
Let’s start with the positives:
- The spice was phenomenal. No complaints there—seriously, so good.
- I also loved the Bosnian and Albanian representation (you don’t see that every day in romance), and the strong women in STEM was a major win. Breaking barriers and challenging norms in her field, and I’m always here for that.
- The MMC was a sweetheart. He was smart, humble, emotionally grounded, and somehow still very spicy when the lights went off. I loved his character and honestly wish we saw more MMCs like him in romance.
But here’s where things didn’t work for me:
- The reason for the breakup didn’t sit right. As a social worker, I totally get how trauma shapes our choices, but I couldn’t buy into this particular decision. The MMC was such a safe, trustworthy partner that it felt out of character for her not to tell him what was going on. I had a hard time connecting with the MFC because of it.
- The dialogue just didn’t feel natural—it often came across stiff or robotic.
- There were a few plot holes/ choices that felt under-researched or inconsistent.
- And toward the end, there are some chapters centered around a friend (no spoilers), but they felt really out of place in this story. I think it’s setting up for a future book, which some readers will probably love, but for me, it broke the flow.
✨So while the steam and some cultural elements were really strong, this one didn’t fully land for me. I wanted to love it more than I did !
*This is an ARC review and all thoughts are my own**
Elephant in the Room by A.H. Monroe was my very first read by this author, and I can already say it won’t be my last. Even though it’s the second book in the Mayhem in Antwerp series, I dove right in without reading book one, and I still managed to connect deeply with the characters and their story. In fact, finishing this made me want to go back and read the entire series in order—because if book two was this engaging, I can only imagine how much richer the experience will be with the full background.
From the very beginning, I was hooked. The first 20% set up such a compelling mix of angst, tension, and yearning, the classic exes-to-lovers setup, but written with a freshness that felt both believable and heartfelt. Irfran and Alina’s chemistry jumps off the page, and the idea of them playing fake-dating best man and maid of honor at a wedding while secretly nursing unresolved heartbreak? Chef’s kiss. It’s the exact kind of messy, emotional romance dynamic I love.
I’ll admit, around the 50% mark, I started to worry. The breakup secret was being dragged out, and I thought the reveal would either be underwhelming or rushed in the last chapters (which often happens in shorter romance novels). But I was pleasantly surprised, the truth came to light at just the right moment, and instead of feeling rushed, it landed with emotional weight and clarity. The reveal not only made sense, but it also tugged at my heart because of how selfless and considerate the characters were not just toward each other, but also toward the side characters whose feelings were tied into the conflict.
That level of care in storytelling is what makes this book stand out. Monroe doesn’t just write a romance—she writes about two flawed, loving people navigating heartbreak, healing, and hope. The way Irfran never stops loving Alina, even when he doesn’t understand why she left, was so moving. And Alina’s journey her secret, her struggle, her eventual openness was handled with compassion and depth. Their love never felt shallow; it felt lived-in, tested, and earned.
And while Irfran might be the gentleman in public, behind closed doors, he definitely brings a side of himself that balances Alina’s vulnerability with intensity and passion. Their dynamic gave me everything I wanted: tenderness, spice, angst, and ultimately, healing.
I also have to mention the writing itself—A.H. Monroe has a way of balancing heavy themes with hope. Yes, this book touches on some very sensitive and potentially triggering topics (please check trigger warnings before diving in), but the author approached them with care, never sensationalizing, always respecting the characters’ pain and growth.
By the end, I wasn’t just satisfied with Irfran and Alina’s happily ever after. I was eager for more of this world, these friendships, and these messy, imperfectly perfect love stories.
⸻
In summary: A beautifully emotional second-chance romance filled with fake dating, unresolved longing, a secret worth waiting for, and a love that proves itself stronger than heartbreak. Irfran and Alina’s story melted my heart, broke it a little, and then carefully pieced it back together. A.H. Monroe has definitely earned a spot on my go-to author list.
💔 Tropes you’ll love: ✨ Exes-to-lovers ✨ Fake dating ✨ Wedding setting ✨ Yearning + unresolved tension ✨ Gentleman MMC with a hidden edge ✨ Healing + emotional growth
I’m giving this one 4 stars—not because it wasn’t incredible, but because that mid-book pacing dragged just a touch for me. Otherwise, this was an emotional, heartfelt ride, and I’ll be re-reading and continuing this series without question.
I loved Ifran and Alina. The romantic and wholesome moments despite being broken up and fake dating for her brothers and best friends wedding. Ifran is just the perfect gentleman and treats Alina so well. I loved the side characters too Elma and Armin were so great. Arsen, Lejla and M I loved and need to know more! Loved the Bosnian culture introduced in this book.
One thing that wasn’t for me was there was a couple random chapters thrown in from other peoples perspective that felt a little out of place and caught me off guard but overall easy read and such a wholesome book.
This book is just written so beautifully 💚 The chemistry between the two characters throughout is amazing and you really feel as though you are in their minds! I never had to question anything the characters were feeling and it made it such a great fun and fast reading experience 💚 Highly recommend this book, can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy 💚
I read the first book of the series before starting the second book to get more into the story and to get to know all the characters. As with the first book, I was hooked from the beginning. I really loved to read the story from Irfan and Alina - their love for each other is everything! 💚
The book had so many beautiful, emotional and funny moments. I really loved everything they organized for the engagement party, bachelor and bachelorette parties and the wedding. All the moments with just the women and just the men were very enjoyable. I also really liked reading some other characters POV. Only M.. wtf was that? And I liked the aspect from the boss women Lorène and Alina!
This book is full of love, family, friendship, emotion, depth, mental health, spice and travel. I recommend this series and can not wait to read the stories from M, Arsen&Lejla, and Isa!
I simply enjoyed this story. Irfan and Alina were just always ment to be together....even when they were faking it. The way Irfan just treated Alina like the queen she is... just so damn sweet okay. but when he treated her "disrespectfully"...whooo 🥵🥵 learning what happened to Alina that had her pull away just broke my heart. I know how she felt. but proud of her for getting help she knew she needed. we also got to see how Elma's and Armins wedding unfolded. there was a bit of drama, but also a lot of fun. also Alina made some amazing progress at her workplace as a chemical engineer. the work place drama was taken care of perfectly. all in all, enjoyed this book and I predicted who the next book would be about and I was right! ahhh I really can't wait for his book 😍
thank you A.H. Monroe and Luna Literary for the arc. 🫶🏻
Sadly, this one wasn't it for me. I had a hard time following along with the writing. I enjoyed the culture, and I liked Irfan. Alina, however, I was not a fan of her. The reason for the breakup, while tragic it didn't make sense. Irfan was the sweetest guy he would've been there for her in a heartbeat.
Aside from that plot hole, the writing just wasn't fluid. Overall, this book had potential, but it was executed poorly.
I appreciate the opportunity to read this ARC. Hopefully, the next one will be better.
I have read book 1 and was dissatisfied a bit with the strange plot and random characters showing up here and there and the weird way they talked.
When I saw book 2 was about second chance, I thought to give it a try but boy was I wrong.
This book is all over the place. The characters had zero development and no emotional maturity. The language was off, same as the book 1. Mind you, I’m not English mother tongue but it felt, once again, that the original words the author chose to use were replaced with weird synonyms.
ARC READER!!!! Just finished reading this one, and I’m honestly obsessed 🫣 I devoured it ! t’s the perfect book to take to the beach or read by the pool, for real!!!
If you're into fake dating your ex-boyfriend , green flag boyfriend (!!!), and a story that talks about important themes, you're going to LOVE this book! The plot kept me hooked the whole time, and I have to say... some characters were kinda suspicious 👀
Compared to book one, I connected even more with the characters this time around. I’m so glad I got early access to this because waiting would’ve been painful LMAO!
Tropes: 💚Second chance 💚Women in Stem 💚Forced Proximity 💚Fake Dating 💚One bed 💚It's always been you 💚Friends to lovers 💚Dirty Talk and Praise
Alina and Irfan's story was so beautiful. Watching a man give the woman he loves the space she needs to heal is amazing. Getting to experience them as they heal and grow and rekindle their love was simply magical. Alina is a bad ass woman in Stem, and Irfan is a swooney tatted lawyer boy, and they are the perfect match. I loved this book and everything it brought to light. Check the trigger warnings. It may spoil some of the plot, but mental health is important. This is set in Bosnia, and I enjoyed learning some of the culture, language, and food. Thank you so much to @lunaliterary.management and @authorahmonroe for the opportunity to read and review this. Pre-order this now bookworms. It's releasing on June 2nd. Happy reading 💜
I love how AH Monroe rights her stories and characters. She hooked me with Cat Got Your Tongue, so of course I was so happy to see Elephant in the Room releasing! Book two in her Mayhem in Antwerp series, this book continues her beautiful representation of her heritage and culture. In addition, a second chance romance, women in STEM, and it’s always been you are tropes that I can’t ignore. I knew I had to read this and was so pleased with how much I enjoyed it.
Irfan and Alina hooked me from the beginning of their story. I loved getting to know them in book one and knew their story was going to be a good one. When their cliffhanger happened in book one, I couldn’t wait to find out how AH would bring them back together and knowing they were going to fake their relationship from the get go, immediately had this book on my TBR. These two oozed with chemistry as side characters in book one and when they are front and center, that chemistry ignites into a wonderful romance that truly deserved a second chance.
I loved how they didnt’ want to cast shadows on their friend’s wedding celebrations. It truly shows how much these two care for their friends and the lengths they are willing to go. Now in real life, this wouldn’t be something I think I would like. It really would be a be together or don’t be, but don’t use my wedding as your reasoning. However, in the book world this trope is sweet and romantic. As these two remain in close proximity and find themselves in situations that remind them of past moments and question why they broke up, I cheered them on. The interactions they had with their family and friends only furthered the belief everyone thinks that these two belong together.
AH brings readers into the beautiful culture of Bosnia and Albania and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these cultures more and deeper. The mental health representation was woven in beautifully and felt realistic and relatable. As you learn more and more about our MCs, you can’t help but swoon for what they are willing to do for each other, yes even walk away in order for healing to happen. As they find their way back to each other, a true feeling of hope is felt that is a rarity in the world right now. Wonderful book, wonderful characters, wonderful author! A must read!!!
As always, review any author notes before reading.
What to Expect: 🐘Fake Dating 💚Unavoidable Proximity 🐘Second Chance Romance 💚Women in STEM 🐘It’s Always Been You 💚He Falls First 🐘One Bed 💚Dirty Talk and Praise 🐘Summer Vibes 💚Tattooed MMC
Thank you Luna Literary for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own
I signed up for this ARC because I love second chance romance! The fake dating between ex’s was entertaining. I enjoyed the representation in the story as I can’t say I’ve read much about Bosnian or Albanian people before. I also loved the women in STEM storyline and there was decent mental health rep.
However, the story fell flat for me in several ways. I really struggled with the writing style, as it felt repetitive and the dialogue felt stilted and not how people would naturally talk. It felt like several words had been replaced using a thesaurus without checking for connotations or phrasing used in common idioms. While I understand that this is an ARC, there would need to be heavy edits between now and publication and I don’t feel like there’s enough time for that as typically only proofreading is done between ARC and publication. There were two random chapters with other POV (FMC’s best friend and FMC’s dad) that retold plot points already brought up in the FMC and MMC POV so it didn’t feel like they added anything to the story. I think there was also another 1-2 chapters from the POV of another friend that also didn’t add to the story but seemed to be a set up for the next book in the series. There was mention of HIPAA (a US law about healthcare privacy) even though the story was set in Antwerp. The MMC also called the FMC a brat randomly during spicy time without the FMC doing anything bratty.
This book would be good for readers interested in Bosnian and/or Albanian culture, second chance romance and mental health rep
Irfran and Alina are the best man and maid of honor for their best friend’s upcoming wedding. They of course want everything for their friends to go well, so they decide to keep up the charade that they are happily in love and dating. Only problem? Alina broke up with Irfran with no real reason, and she’s planning on hiding that reason until at least after the wedding. Even though Irfran doesn’t know the reasoning why Alina broke up with him, he still holds so much love in his heart for her and knows they belong together. He gladly agrees to keep up with the fake dating Alina wants everyone to believe, but what she doesn’t know is that he never stopped loving her… and in reality, she never stopped loving him either.
After keeping up with the public fake dating, emotions are high between these two and that really makes Alina rethink keeping the secret on why she broke up with Irfran. After the truth comes out, Irfran does anything and everything he can to help Alina heal, as well as help her with an issue at work. These two also have some serious sparks between them, Irfran is a gentleman in public, but with Alina, he’s a much different man (in the best way possible!)
Please know this book has heavy topics talked about throughout, so be sure to read over trigger warnings. I believe the author took the utmost care in writing about these topics. Irfran and Alina really intrigued me in the first book, so I was so excited for their story and was not disappointed!
Thank you to A.H. Monroe as well as Luna Literary for the ARC opportunity!
I know I’m a bit late on my review but this book truly took a hold of my heart 🥹 Alina truly is a powerhouse and she is the strongest fmc I have read in a really long time!! She is so brave, smart, fierce and always puts everyone else over herself (a trait I also tend to have 😅). She is the epitome of a strong woman who can take on anything and I am in awe of who she is.
This is the second book in the series titled “Mayhem in Antwerp” and it’s an interconnected series. You could read this book without reading book 1, but where’s the fun in that? Alina has always made sure her friends are always happy, and if they need a shoulder to cry on, there she is. Sadly, no one noticed that she was going through a tough time bc she was so good at masking her emotions or downplaying what she felt. She breaks up with the love of her life, Irfan, and doesn’t have the heart to tell him why. However, their best friends are getting married and they start to pretend they are still in a relationship. But, is it even really fake dating when they are both still in love with each other?
This book does tackle a sensitive subject and A.H Monroe does a fantastic job dealing with this sensitive topic. I truly love reading Alina and Irfan’s love story and how soulmates always find a way to get back with each other, no matter what the circumstances were ❤️
I really wanted to love this one, but it was not for me. I truly loved everything about Irfan! He seems like the sweetest MMC, and is pure green flag energy. The epitome of a man written by a woman! lol So kind, but also knows his way around the bedroom *wink wink, nudge nudge*. Alina just irritated me. I completely understand how complex her feelings were in terms of the breakup (hence the second chance romance part), but it fell a bit flat for me given who the MMC was. Her character felt a bit disjointed when Irfan was so emotionally intelligent and considerate 24/7.
I felt like there were also some disconnects throughout the book that made it less believable. I can’t imagine how challenging it can be to get all the details right, but perhaps another round of checks would help catch those inconsistencies in the future!
Now, the spice…it was SPICIN’. Let me tell you! Ohhhh snap. Irfan is *fans self* honestly, I go back to the fact that he is pure green flag energy.
The multicultural representation and that of women in STEM were awesome to see as well, and I know there are people out there who will gobble up this story.
Thank you to Luna Literary for the gifted review copy!
Overall, I really like this book. First I will say, check the triggers in the back - part of the plot is something that could be triggering for some if you're not prepared. And while I enjoyed the book overall - this part of the plot was hard for me to wrap my head around in the context of the characters we meet. Anyway the story starts with FMC Alina breaking up with Irfan with no real explanation- but clearly there's some kind of trauma there. They "fake date" as they don't want to upset their best friends right before their wedding. We finally learn the "what" and having met Irfan - who is an outstanding MMC BTW - that's where it was hard to understand the break up. There's an additional side plot that focuses on women in STEM roles and I like how that was handled. I thoroughly enjoyed the local and cultures we were exposed to - very different from alot of romances I've read recently. I'll be back for more from A.H. Monroe - she dropped in a little sneaky peak into the next book for us (I didn't mind the part with other characters POV in the story - but I know it's been mentioned).
I believe it’s the first time I’ve ever read a book featuring Bosnian/Albanian culture so this was awesome! Also with Alina being in STEM, I love that there’s representation for that too and issues in an industry where it’s usually male dominated were addressed.
I don’t think I can imagine a world where Irfan and Alina are not together. I love their dynamics and how they really care a lot about each other. I was so curious about what happened when they were not together, and was heartbroken for Alina. I’m glad she was able to get some support for it though and that everyone was kind about it.
One thing I didn’t like is one of the side characters doing “something” (not giving details to avoid spoilers) around the end of the book. I understand the scenario was setting up the next book, however it didn’t sit well with me.
This book is for you if you like the following tropes: - Fake dating between exes - Forced proximity - He falls first and hard - “It’s always been you” - Lawyer MMC - FMC in STEM - Diversity
Thank you again to A.H Monroe & to Luna Literary Management for the ARC opportunity!
Do you have to read book no. 1? No. Should you read book no. 1 because A.H. Monroe writes lovable characters? Absolutely.
Fake dating your ex-boyfriend to keep up appearances? As if I could say no to that premise. Add in a woman in STEM and experiencing new cultures (Bosnia & Albania) and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. Irfan really is a walking green flag for an MMC while Alina is a healing FMC. Some may take issue with their reason for breaking up, but every relationship is different - why you break up with someone is not the same reason someone else breaks up. Moreover, miscommunication is a thing with the MCs so if you're not a fan of miscommunication, some parts of the storytelling may be a struggle for you.
Since I lean towards the darker side of romance, this was a great way to break it up and I will be on the lookout for book no. 3!

Right from the moment I started reading, I was absolutely hooked. I knew, going in, that there would be some angst, but I wasn’t prepared for the sheer feeling that poured out of every page.
A.H. Monroe has crafted something truly special here. The story revolves around Alina and Irfan, and their complicated, messy, and utterly captivating history.
The beauty of this book is in the unsaid. You can feel the tension crackling between Alina and Irfan, the longing, the regret, and the lingering embers of a love that refuses to die. The author did an amazing job of making you feel everything right along with them…the awkwardness, the electric shock of accidental touches, the desperate hope that maybe, just maybe, there's a chance for a second beginning.
This book is a rollercoaster of emotions. It's sweet, it's angsty, it's funny, and at times, it's downright painful. But most of all, it's incredibly captivating.
I was so stoked to receive an early copy of this book and it couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time for me. Alina is for anyone going through something alone and feeling like they can’t reach out for help. It’s something I relate to heavily. As I’m sure a lot of people do too.
Irfan is the perfect man even if he thinks he’s not. He shows up for Alina when it really matters, even when he thinks he’s too late. This is a story about how talking helps. We all struggle but by talking it gets easier to heal.
I loved that we not only saw Alina show her emotions but we saw that from Irfan too. The way they both made each other feel safe to fall apart is one of my favourite things about them. It’s rare in a book that we see the man break down. It was truly refreshing to see that.
This is a story for anyone who feels alone. There is always someone who will listen, you just have to reach out.
Normally I get sucked right into romance books and feel all the feels alongside the characters, but this book was a TOTAL MISS for me. Many of the wording choices felt awkward, the dialogue felt immature and off, the relationship lacked depth and emotional maturity, and the way that Irfan talked to/treated Alina often gave me the ick… calling her ‘little genius’ and ‘brat’ felt really infantalizing and rubbed me the wrong way, not to mention the undercurrents of dominance, power, and control throughout. In the end, I actually came away from the book questioning if there was any real emotional connection between Irfan and Alina—their relationship felt like it was just a string of sexual exploits.
On top of that, I have some serious concerns about the scene near the end with M. It seems it’s the setup for the next book in the series, but the whole concept seems highly problematic to frame as a romance...
The book was cute and a quick read, something that could be emotional as it has some deep themes. The women in STEM and the representation of Bosnian and/or Albanian culture were fascinating points.
The relationship between the main characters was all right, the spice was very good, but I couldn't exactly feel an amazing chemistry or banter between them. They were adorable with each other, and were able to go through hardships.
There is nothing wrong with the book, this is just my opinion, so please read the book if you are interested!
Thank you so much to Luna Literary and the author for giving me the chance of being an ARC.
It was good, I enjoyed pieces of it and the overall plot and character growth. In theory, I enjoyed the idea of fake dating and second chance romance. BUT, I just couldn’t get past the reasoning of why the FMC broke up with the MMC in the first place. It just really didn’t make much sense to me, especially with how supportive the MMC is and has always been portrayed. I had a semi-hard time with the dialogue too, it just felt clunky and not all that natural. I loved the feminine rage and empowerment and also the culture that this story revolves around. It was just tough to relate to the FMC from the moment I knew why she ended the relationship.
It’s a good, mostly lighthearted read with some slightly heavier bits. The spice was okay (some of the language just didn’t work for me and i found myself skipping some of it lol).
As expected I knew I would enjoy this read. I loved book one so I had high hopes for this one. It did not disappoint.
Since I read book 1, I was familiar with the characters already and I like how each book continues but talks about other characters in the series.
Book 2 Alina and Ifran, they are both apart of the friendship group and friends to lovers. This book is about their breakup and the fake dating they need to do to not ruin their friends wedding. To me the plot was so so, the reasoning behind the break up in my opinion could have been better. I feel like being what it was that it just didn’t fit right with how trusting and safe she felt with Ifran.
Regardless, I love these characters and the spice and all the events that happened throughout . As always I really enjoy relationships and the diversity of the characters it makes it enjoyable and easy to read!
I can’t wait to read book 3 about M! That little sneak peek was soo good but I wish it was part of the epilogue instead of in the middle of the story line.
Irfan the man that you are.. lord, if all men were like Irfan we might be in trouble (in a good way). At the beginning of the story Alina is gathering up the courage to tell Irfan that they need to break up but it's isn't discussed as to why she wants to break up until much later in the book. & it's not what you think. No one cheated and honestly, the reason for the break up I understand, however, how it was handled by our FMC shows that she needed to grow a bit. It is mentioned that she went/was going to therapy to help with understanding her emotions as well as how to move forward after what happened.
Irfan still being there for her and showing up for her throughout the book honestly, he is the real hero in the book. I loved how he took care of her and also, how he gave her the space she needed but was also present in whatever she needed.
This was my first book by AH Monroe but I can say it won't be my last because I look forward to the next one in the series.

Tropes: Friends to Lovers Fake Dating Maid of Honor x Best Man Female in STEM Bosnian & Albanian Rep
This was such an adorable, yet emotional story! I had been rooting for this couple in book 1 and I'm so glad they are finally together!
Alina had broken up with Irfan, but now as the maid of honor & best man for their best friends' wedding, they have to continue fake dating until the wedding is over in order to make their best friends' happy.
I was shocked when Alina broke up with Irfan and couldn't understand why she did it! I loved reading about their journey of finding each other again.
Ifran is the ultimate book boyfriend, he was always supportive of Alina, not just in their relationship, but also her passions and her career!
Alina is such a strong individual, especially being a female in STEM and dealing with a terrible boss! I was heartbroken when I found out why she broke up with Irfan, but it made complete sense. The author did an amazing job of making a realistic representation of what happened.
I loved the representations of a female in STEM and Bosnian & Albanian cultures, and being a minority in STEM as well! There were a few times that I felt the characters were too in their heads and some things felt repetitive but otherwise it was an amazing story! Can't wait for the next book in the series!
I really was hoping to love this story as I am a sucker for second chance romance and after reading the first book I was hoping for some serious heart string pulls between two characters that were very much in love at the end of book one.
This story was just okay for me and I think a lot of it had to do with the flow of the book. Conversations between characters felt very matter of fact, almost robotic in delivery. The reason behind the two main characters split can be triggering, so please check trigger warning before reading this book.
Readers will enjoy the positive representation of women in STEM and Irfan is a big green flag of a man.
Thank you to author and Luna Literary for the eARC!
ARC Review of Elephant in the Room. I totally should have read book 1 in this series before starting this book, but it didn’t seem effect the story for me. I really did enjoy this book and the MMC did not falter in his love for the FMC.
To me, this book’s main trope is miscommunication/noncommunication between a couple. They are madly in love but broken up for unknown reasons during the book. They keep fake dating to keep up the image while their best friends get married.
Eventually they figure out how to communicate and get back together. The reason for the breakup is heartbreaking and I don’t fully understand it but the story was good.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Where to start..I had a hard time getting invested in this book. The dialogue didn’t seem super natural and didn’t really develop the relationship between the two MCs. It starts off with a prologue of them breaking up for some unknown reason (cue gotta go my own way from HSM2). Then they pretend to still be dating for their friend’s wedding..how far before the wedding did the break up happen you ask? I’m not sure..but the spice spiced. I honestly didn’t really understand the breakup once everything came to light..Irfan seemed like such a safe space and honestly her best friend for a while..he wasn’t just some rando. This wasn’t my cup of tea but it might be yours!
Thank you Luna Literary and A.H. Monroe for the eARC!
