Ivy is distraught when her royal witchy parents disappear during a terrible storm. She goes searching for them with the help of her "familiar", a shapeshifting wolf boy. A friendly witch examines dust left behind from the disappearance and discovers that there are traces of "taint", a cursed ingredient. They travel to the land of the Cunning Folk, and get help from a boy with a flying carpet. But can they discover who cursed their parents before it's too late and more people start to disappear?

I loved this cute story! Ivy is such a sweet character. The adventure is a lot of fun as they follow the clues, and we get to see some of imaginative places and people of this magical land. Even though the characters are witches and they like creepy things, this book is not creepy at all. There is a cozy atmosphere and adorable characters, even in the midst of the cobwebs and dusty castles.

The writing is simple for this age group, but there is a sweet charm to each page that I enjoyed even as a grown-up reader. The illustrations are beautiful too! Such cute artwork!

This book was marked as "Nothing Found" on the Screen It First website, indicating that there is no sensitive or objectionable content in the book. https://screenitfirst.com/book/ivy-ne...

Ivy Newt and the Storm Witch is a really cute early chapter book. A mystery, an adventure, and magical fun make for an exciting story. The writing whisks the reader away and the illustrations enhance the experience. This transitional is not one of those mass-produced formulaic paperbacks churned out with no real creativity, it's a book a child or adult will feel satisfied delving into.

It is Ivy’s birthday, but nothing is going as planned. Not only has a storm prevented her friends from being able to come celebrate with her, but Ivy’s parents suddenly disappear, as well. Luckily, Ivy has her trusty familiar, Tom, by her side, and the two companions venture into the unknown to find Ivy's missing parents. Along the way, Ivy and Tom meet new friends from around the whole of Miracula, effectively growing their community in their quest to achieve their goal. This amusing early chapter book is well suited to children who are becoming more confident, independent readers. Large font, increased line spacing, and frequent illustrations help to make the book visually appealing as the plot unfolds. The narrative itself is filled with puns and humor, and it does a good job of introducing readers to the fictional land of Miracula. Clever turns of phrase amplify the appeal of the story, though occasional words may require thoughtful conversation, especially when a word that means something innocuous in British English has an entirely different meaning in American slang. In addition to engagingly descriptive writing, a map and character list are included at the beginning of the book to help orient readers to this story. All together, this book is enjoyable and well suited to its target age group. This is a fun addition to library collections for newly confident chapter book readers, and it is primed for a sequel.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

This magical and spooky tale is perfect for fans of Harriet Muncaster and Laura Ellen Anderson! Ivy, Felix and Tom make the perfect team for solving magical mysteries and battling wicked witches whilst also building their friendship and supporting each other along the way. From a fears of heights or the dark to dealing with bullies these characters are so resilient and definitely make for great heroes! The illustrations are great and really add to the atmosphere of the story and the different witch and wizard types have me intrigued to read more from this world.

Cute story about a witch and problem solving. Standing up to the bad witch. Some language explanations needed for American readers but overall entertaining for the right age group.

Great new series for little fans of all things witchy!

I fell in love with this book the minute I saw the cover: sweet and intriguing, it brings both comfort and mystery. This is the first book in the new series about Ivy Newt, a little witch, and her friend (a familiar) Tom Wolf. Set on a bat-shaped island Miracula, it’s full of magic, mischief, and drama that young people are bound to enjoy. There are castles and spooky forests, broomsticks and flying carpets, and ALL kinds of witches – Sand Witches, Cunning Folk, Book Wizards and, of course, the evil Storm Witch.

Raising important topics such as justice, standing up to bullies, courage, and supporting your friends, this chapter book is an absolute delight accompanied by the most lovely black-and-white illustrations by Magda Brol, with a map and a two-page gallery depicting the main characters.

Perfect for the fans of Winnie the Witch, The Worst Witch and Isadora Moon.
Huge thanks to Scallywag Press for sending me a copy.
